I am a junior in high school and I currently have a Macbook pro 15" 2007 version. It is half broken from use. When it breaks i need to get something else. I was thinking. I use my mabook pro for; web browsing, word, sometimes for Power point and excel. My school bag weighs 27 pounds (no joke) and i would like to lighten it. In a few months or so I am going to get a new macbook pro 15". I also like the concept that the Ipad is small and light (which I need because of my heavy and bulky bag). If I were to get an Ipad I would get the 64 gb wifi Ipad. What do you think I should do?

It would help if you said a little more about your usage and needs...why so much storage, and how much processing do you do? The MacBook Air (the new one) with the 13 inch screen has almost as much viewable screen area as the 15 inch MBP. And the SSD is significantly faster than the HD in the MBP. If you do a little on-line research you will find articles comparing the two, with the result that actual turn around is faster with the MBA even though it has a slower processer.
What are you planning on using the computer for that you need 400 GB of storage? The MBP has 500 GB, but that is a huge amount of storage. Unless you are going to do serious video work or graphic design work you will wear the computer out before using that much storage capacity. If you really need that much, the iPad is definitely out of the running since it only comes with up to 64 GB of storage.

Thanks. The reason this has become an issue is that I recently bought a new Macbook Air that the iPad is not synced to. The one is was synced to was stolen. If I want to sync this iPad to the new Air, won't it be wiped before I'm able to copy these films or am I wrong about that?

I recently purchased an IPAD AIR and synced ir with my comuter. 14 days later I try and SYNC it and I get a message " The IPAD could not be synced because this computer is no longe authorized for purchased items that are on this IPAD. The apple id's are the same and only 2 devices authorized. Meessage states to go to STORE and Authorize Computer. When I do I get a Message it is already authorized

The problem appeared to be a Pending Request on the IPAD for the new ICLOUD option to share Keychain. I cleared that up and it appears that fixed the issue. Thanks for your help

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I have new Epson printer with airprint possibility. Printer is on wifi and iphone can see it and print files. but ipad does not find printer at all?

IPad does not find iphone hotspot

I have iPhone 4S and an iPad2 WiFi both running iOS5.1
I use the iPhone hotspot function to get the iPad on the internett when not at home. This workes great, I had to type inn the WiFi password the first time i connected the iPad, later the iPad connects without having to type the password.
Since iOS 5.1 the iPad sometimes have problems finding the iPhone hotspot. I turn on the "shared internet" function of the iPhone, open the smartcover on the iPad, but it does not connect (the two attached rings does not appear). If I go to Settings>WiFi on the iPad, the iPhone WiFi hotspot does not show up, the iPad just keeps searching. Then after a little while, the iPad suddently connect, ususally after I open Safari or Mail or something on the iPad. If I then close the smartcover, and leave the iPhone hotspot on, reopen the iPad smart cover, again the iPad does not seem to find the WiFi hotspot. I have to turn the hotspot function off/on on the iPhone, and then after a little while it works. When first connected,everything works OK.
Is this a problem with iOS 5.1?

Just going to the hotspot screen on the iPhone puts it in host mode where it's easy for the iPad to find it.
You lose some speed due to bandwidth bottleneck of Bluetooth, but I found bluetooth tethering had fewer headaches and was more persistent.

Where did you get the phone? If it was hacked or jailbroken prior to the update, this is pretty typical. If that's the case, it's now a brick.

The Photosmart 5510 is AirPrint capable. You can find that information linked below. There may be something in the network that is preventing communication. To use AirPrint your router needs to support Bonjour services. Run the download below. It will let you test Bonjour services from your Windows PC. If this app can't see the printer either, then the router's Bonjour services are off, or it does not support Bonjour. Let me know what the app finds. If it can't find the printer, let me know what brand and model router you have, and I'll see if it has Bonjour services at all.

I am trying to print from my iPad to a HP 3520 printer using AirPrint. I have connected the printer to my local wireless network and it confirms it is connected. However my iPad can not find the printer on the network when it searches for it. I am using an AOL supplied router and have read reports that this can cause problems. Is this the case? That indeed can be caused by a router as Apple's AirPrint uses Bonjour to communicate with the device.
Bonjour Services relies on IP Multicasting which have to be supported by your network.
To isolate the problem, please follow the steps below to enable Wireless Direct and directly connect the iPad to your printer (which means without using the router).
Once the iPad connected to the Wireless Direct network try printing and check for any difference.
If the printer can be found via the temporary connection but not through your router that indicates lack of Multicast support or wrong configuration of your router.
In such a case be sure to contact AOL and check if the router support Multicasting, if so ensure it is enabled within your router configuration, as well ensure it have the latest firmware installed..

I have my PC on, then plug in my iPad (which is on) and open iTunes. The iPad does not show up in the sidebar. How do you get it to show up so that I can select the iPad and then configure the sync settings in each of the settings panes....hoping that these actually show up.
In the manual it says "log in to your computer user account before connecting iPad". I am the only user of this PC...does this mean some other user account. I am confused. I need "baby steps" to tell me how to do all this....very senior and just learning about this wonderful machine. I will very much appreciate your help.

If you are the only user on your computer you probably don't have multiple user accounts set up and can disregard that. If you are using iTunes 11 go to View>Show Sidebar. Now see if your iPad appears under Devices on the left side when you connect it. If it does, click on the name of your iPad on the left side and your iTunes sync settings options will appear in folders with tabbed headings to the right.

My ipad is not showing all my music or videos

Looking for help with my iPad 2. I have iTunes 11.1.5.5 on my Sony Vaio VPCSA laptop running Windows 7. When I connect my iPad 2 and open iTunes, I can select my iPad from the menu column on the left and see 8 movies, all my music, and play lists. While traveling recently, I went to watch a movie on my iPad and there are no videos and only a fraction of my songs and 1 play list. When I got back I payed a little closer attention to the sync and noticed 1) on the content bar (audio/video/apps) there is a sizable selection identified as other. 2) when it gets to the last step in the sync process it has a message that says "waiting for selections to be applied" and then times out. I tried syncing and hitting the apply button during this last step and still no movies/music are transferred to the iPad.
I'm wondering that when I bought this laptop and transferred my music over from my old laptop, I somehow didn't have a correct setting and its not syncing properly with my iPad. Not sure if I should hard reset my iPad 2 and reload everything. And if anyone recommends this, should I not use the back up feature? All my music, videos and apps are on my iTunes client and my iPhone 5s seems to be syncing up without any problems.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Before my PC had iTunes, I loaded Aps from store onto my daughter's PC with iPad connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password. Now I want to upgrade to next iPad but Aps in my iPad are not on my PC iTunes. Do I have to buy again to keep them

I'm a new user of an iPad. Before my PC had iTunes (it does now), I loaded Aps from from the iStore using my daughter's PC with my iPad cable-connected. I indicated my email address and Apple password--not hers and paid for these Aps--receipts arrived via my email. Now I want to upgrade to 5.1 but the Aps now loaded on my iPad do not show up on my PC iTunes library. When I click 'Upgrade' I get a warning message that says all Aps currently on the iPad will be obliterated in the process which of course I don't want to have happen because they're not showing up on my PC which presumably means my PC is not aware of what's on my iPad. Do I have to buy these same Aps again to keep them if I'm going to upgrade to 5.1, and how do I get my iTunes on my PC to back up the Aps currently loaded onto my iPad?

You should be able to copy the apps (and any other iTunes purchases) over to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. And as long as apps remain available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to purchase them, you should be able to re-download them in the future : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
If you are already on iOS 5+ on your iPad then you should be able to update the iPad directly on the iPad via Settings > General > Software Update .
