IPad or Notebook

What would be better for college, ipad or mac notebook? For note taking and so on. I already have a Asus laptop, and I really want an iPad but the laptop I have isnt the best. So I unsure what to get.

Although you could buy a Macbook Pro to do what you want you could also buy a better Windows notebook for less money and maybe have enough left over to buy an iPad also.
Having 2 notebooks that run the same or similar operating systems has it's pluses. You already know how they work. You can use one for school, carrying it around, the other at your dorm or apartment. Back up your files to both, that way if one fails you have the second to keep going. And a host of other possibilities. Then have the iPad for whatever you think you would like to use it for.
iPads interface just fine with Windows PCs, just as well as they do to Mac's.
Something to think about.

  • Can i use my ipad as notebook in meeting

can i use my ipad as a notebook in meeting.is there any app which can transform hand wriiten note in typed text. will it be organised date or title wise. please suggest some apps. free apps would be preferable

As I said before, for me it is easier to write something out on a piece of paper and then when I have time, manually type in what I wrote down on the paper into the iPad.
I am not aware of any apps that actually translate what you write with a stylus or finger into actual lettering.

  • Ipad / mini notebook

    Hi all,
I recently came across the coffee corner forum and find it interesting, so started going through the discussions whenever i find time at my coffee break.
I just wanted to know your openion about what I have specified in the subject line.
As many of you might travel becasue of your work or vacation, what do you think the better option to watch films / surfing internet while travelling ? it should be like easy to carry, so i find two possibilities one is Ipad, other one is sleek, tiny notebook (11 inches i guess)
    any inputs?
    Have a nice coffee day

As a person who grew up with black and white TV received via rabbit ear antennas when contrasting them to today's large format HDTVs, I can tell you there is no comparison. In fact, with my larger sets (36 inch and 55 inch), I find it almost annoying to watch the non-HDTV channels as the resolution is so bad. You don't notice it as much on the smaller sets like 22 inches or smaller, but the image is quite blurry on the larger sets. Luckily, Verizon Fios has lots of HD versions of the major network channels and subscription channels.
As to the original question, I would go with the mini notebook. I like the size, have no problem with the keyboard - in fact I like it better as the keys are not as far recessed as on full size ones with touchpads, and I can read the screen provided I have my old man bifocals on. When my wife's Dell died (don't get me started on that), I tried to talk her in to getting one but she complained about the screen size. We tried out several. I liked the little Sony Vaio best (even came in pink which I tried to point out to her as an advantage).
The ipad is getting a lot of publicity (in SAP as well) but seems mostly useful for people who want to hold on to a device while making a presentation. They aren't tied to a podium with a laptop and can read and respond to feedback channels set up live during the presentation. That is likely not to be as easy even with a mini notebook.
It really depends on what you need to do. I don't do live presenations and found the Ipad sort of annoying in terms of having to switch around the keyboard and display. I have a Mac Powerbook and found it to be a lot more intuitive in terms of operation than the Ipad. I suppose I could force myself to get used to the Ipad if someone was to give me one as a present

  • Any1 can tell me y i cant charge my ipad via a laptop? how to do it??

can some1 teach me to charge my ipad thru notebook ?

A lot of computers (especially older ones) do not provide enough power to their USB ports in order to charge the iPad at a sufficient rate - it may still be charging slowly, and should be a bit quicker if the iPad's screen is off, but the most efficient way to charge the iPad is via the wall charger that came with it.

  • Recovering notes on iPad

As the title says, I am trying to figure out if there is anyway to reover notes on iPad's notebook?

OK, then check to see if notes are at icloud.com
And could you explain how the disappeared?

  • How do I send an imessage to an IPAD user from my desktop?

When using my iphone, its easy to send a message to an ipad user.  Knowing their appleid is part of the battle.  But sending a message using my notebook/desktop does not seem as easy.  Please tell me that I am missing something very simple.  I am also using this in business.  So if I have a way to communicate with my staff via ipads/desktop/notebook, that would be great.  Maybe there is a way of doing so using my chat app on my notebook?

iMessages or any form of text messaging is not available on any desktop or laptop.

  • Who knows good iPad apps for using in school?

    Hey,
Soon I'm gonna use my iPad in school. But I don't know good apps for using in school.
Specially for using my iPad a notebook.
I'm looking for an app that can write and draw. I also want to keep my notes organized.
    Who has good suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,
    Thijs
PS. Sorry for my bad English

I would recommend Evernote, a cloud storage app that allows you to organize notes and access them anywhere, over the built-in Notes. For handwriting drawing, I use Notability and email my notes directly from there to my Evernote account; Penultimate is (in my opinion) not as good a writing app, but works better with Evernote. Paper is another good writing app. If you want handwriting recognition, check out Writepad (also works well with Evernote).

  • Вылетает Wi Fi, Что делать???  Problem with Wi Fi...

4 weeks ago, I bought the iMac 2.7 intel i5. As soon as I turned it on, I connected Wi Fi (FRITZ! Box o2 DCLmodel 7270), it worked, I did not uploaded any, except updatings software. And after about 5 minutes gone Internet. I looked at the state of Wi Fi, it was written that everything is connected and working. I try once againto check whether the internet, but it is not. Then I try to switch off and turn on Wi Fi. And once again working. But the problem persists, the internet is lost at different period (3 minutes, 5, 10, the longest when it is 25 minutes), but it disappears, and the wi fi show that is connected and everything is working correctly. And on my wi fi router work fine with iPhone, iPad, MacBook, notebook Sony. On this issue with the router, I dismissed. I try all, all without Scoring. What could it be?? I asked the sellers, they said that it could be problemma with card Wi fi. Is this true??

У меня окно с выбором сети WIFI выходит при каждом входе в сеанс. Почему то система не запоминает мою сеть и мне приходиться каждый раз её выбирать заново
На iphone, ipad, appleTV все нормально.
    Что можно предпринять?

  • E3000 Bricked 3 Times in a Row!!!! **bleep**?

Well let's start at the beginning....
I originally began with a WRT610N(basically the old version of the new E3000).  I had been using it for a couple months, when all of a sudden I was stuck with the power light flashing, meaning the firmware was corrupted.  I contacted support & they guided me through the process of trying to restore the firmware through using the tftp.exe program with no luck.  Unfortunately at the time this happened, the E3000 was just being released, so they stated it could be close to a month to get a replacement WRT610N!
So I decided to just go grab an E3000 from BestBuy, as I had some unused giftcards for there.  I bought the E3000 & used it for literally 2 weeks, then the exact same problem!  Power light flashing, firmware corrupted.  Again I tried to restore the firmware with no luck.  I should mention, each time I tried pinging the router after setting a static IP it resulted in a 100% packet loss, meaning the router was not even communicating with my PC.
So with it being within the 30 day period, I just went & swapped it for a new one.  Couple days later, same issue!  Went and swapped for another, so I am now on my 3rd E3000 in less than a month!
What could be causing this?  I notice the router does get fairly hot, but i have it in a well ventilated area, so not sure what more I can do about that.
This is supposed to be the highest end LinkSys router out there & I continue to have major issues with each of them.  Now I do pull a lot of data through it.  I have a NAS, 3 PC's, PlayStation3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPad, multiple notebooks, etc. on a 18Mbps Comcast cable connection.  But shouldn't this thing handle high amounts of data?  I mean it's the highest end router LinkSys makes, so what do I need to do?  Buy a true Cisco router for $1,000 for home use?
I'm at a loss.  If anyone has any ideas they would certainly be appreciated, as I think Best Buy is really starting to get tired of seeing me...
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Update.
After looking through the internet and trying several different "tricks" to unbrick my E3000 I almost gave up.  However I I found a way to bring this thing back from the dead.  My router had a fast blinking power light which means the firmware is corrupted.  The wireless light would not come on at any time.   No amount of resets or combinations of reset tricks seemed to work.   I could not get to the router by any means.
I was able to unbrick my E3000 today by going here and following the directions posted here: http://www.lancelhoff.com/how-to-fix-a-bricked-linksys-router/
I did not find directions like this anywhere else.
This worked for me...it took me back from a total brick to a fully updated router.  After reading the proceedure, there are a few tips I learned that might help you.
I was confused in step 1 as to which firmware image to use.  I thought there may be a small base piece of firmware to load but In the end I downloaded Cisco's latest (today 1.0.03   which is 7.5mb large)  firmware update to the desktop and then renamed it as per the directions to works.bin.   I did not expect for some reason that the full firmware upgrade file was the right one to use but as it turned out it was.
Also in step 2 when he talked about hooking up the ethernet cable to the router directly from your computer's ethernet port...put the cable into one of the 4 ethernet ports on the router rather than the yellow ethernet modem port.  Just clearing up a bit of potential confusion for you because the process does not always work the first time and as such I questioned if I was doing it right.
Also he states in his additional notes  that it sometimes takes a few tries to make this work...and it does.  I had to do mine 4 times before I got it to load the firmware.  I was surprised that the 7.5mb  firmware file loaded so fast.  Not long after I looked over and saw the wireless tranmit symbol  light working again.  I don't recall how long it took after the firmware loaded for the router to reset but it did probably within a minute without me having to touch anything.  I then was able to see the modem with the browser at 192.168.1.1

  • How does heat affect an iPod?

Last night I went to sleep, then my little brother took my iPod to play, when I woke up, the iPod was in the heat(my house has heats on the side of the wall) and I waited for it to cool down, but does heat break your iPod in any way?

    Hot Tip
If you use your iPod, iPhone, iPad, or notebook in temperatures higher than 95° F (or 35° C), you may permanently damage your battery’s capacity. That is, your battery won’t power your device as long on any given charge. You may damage it even more if you charge the device in these temperatures. Even storing a battery in a hot environment can damage it irreversibly.

  • Credit card security number

What is the secret to get my ipad and notebook to accept the security card number for store purchases?

That you should be using the account. If you had hacked the account or stolen the cc number, then you wouldn't have the security code.
It is another way to stop someone from using the account who shouldn't.
Would you rather them let just anybody use it?

  • My husband and I share the same email address. Is there someway to have different AppleIDs with the same email address?

My husband and I share the same email address at home. Is there some way creating an Apple ID using the same email address? We have multiple apple devices at home (2x iphone4, imac, mini ipad, and notebook) and want our emails from that one address to come through on the different devices.

No, you cannot have the same primary email address used for two separate Apple IDs.
However, you can sign into the same email address on your separate devices for the purposes of receiving mail.  Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts & Calendars > Add Account.
Apple IDs are for using Apple services, like the App Store, iTunes, etc.
Email addresses (while used as the NAME of an Apple ID), are separate entities.

  • Is there a way to view the notebook layout view on Word for mac on an iPad?

Is there a way to view the notebook layout view on Word for mac on an iPad?

No.  Create a playlist that you then sync to your iPod, and choose whatever view you wish of the playlist within iTunes.

  • I deleted a notebook containing all my work by accident on my ipad? my ipad is backed up by synch to my computer how do i get back that notebook?

i synch my ipad to my windows computer (itunes) so the data could still be stored. the app is called notebook + free i was planning on purchasing the pro version whcih is why i was clearing out my notebooks i only needed two and it was the two i deleted. they changed place as i selected the notebooks so it selecvted the wrong two. basically i desperatly need it back its got all my work on from college 4 months. i could update the app or i could buy the full version on my computer and hope it sends all the data across but i afraid if i synch it, the setting on my ipad will apply to the computer app and therefore delete the notebook i need completely...i dont know what yo do, is there anyway of setting your ipad back in time like you can with a computer ?? please help me

If you backed up your iPad to your computer, before you deleted the notebook, the data would still be in the backup.  You can restore from that backup.  But before you do, go into iTunes and make sure you have turned off Automatically Backup your devices when connected to iTunes.  I don't have iTunes on my work computer, so you'll need to find this in Settings > Devices (google it if you need more guidance).  Then connect your iPad to your computer, with iTunes open and once your iPad is recognized, you can right click it and choose restore from backup and a list the available backups will show up.  Choose the backup you know contains the notebook and you should be good to go from there.
ETA:  Follow the direction in this link to turn off automatic sync:  http://ipod.about.com/od/iphoneipodbattery/qt/disable-auto-sync.htm

  • Need a good notebook app for my iPad

    Hello all,
I'm looking really hard for a notebook app that will allow me to create note folders, manipulate texts, docx files, and excell in the app store.  Not seeing anything good.  Im currently using notes that come with the iPad.  I also have Good Reader but it will not let me manipulate docx files.  I need something better. Any suggestions?
Does Microsoft make a MS Word for iPad?  I couldn't find it in the App Store or Mactopia.  If I could get MS Word for iPad that would seal the deal!

I'm not sure if this will help, but you might want to look at Splashtop 2 - Desktop Remote in the app store. If you have cellular, you can get anywhere access where you can basically use your ipad to manipulate what is on your mac or pc. There is also Team Viewer and others, but I don't know much/no experience with them.)
It does not answer your need to make folders, but please read this and it might help.
