IPad (original) running 5.1.1 crashing apps
Hoping someone can help. I have a second hand iPad 1 which was running fine until I updated it to 5.1.1. Now it crashes apps every couple of minutes and is basically unuseable. The app that crashes the most is actually Apples own app, the App Store. I see I am not the only one having this kind of problem. I have closed all open apps, "reset" using back and home buttons, and even restored the software before restoring the iPad from my backup. It still crashes. Unsure what to do next. Any ideas?
Can I say, don't bother hoping that they can fix it?
I've got my firmware restored 4 times, and the app store still crashes.
But my iPad2 running on 5.1.1 doesn't seems to be having this issue.
And so does my wife's iPad3.
It gave me an impression that they wanted to abandon the original iPad support discreetly... unless someone can provide me a satisfactory answer AND a solution.

Yes. Check to make sure that the iPad is functioning correctly before you reinstall everything. There is a chance that something in the backup may be corrupt.

My iPad 1 is very unstable. Many Apps simply crash after opening. There is ample storage available.I have restored the iPad twice now and still it is unstable.
Is this a lack of backwards compatibility because no-one writes apps for IOS 51.1. and the original iPad anymore? not even Apple, as the documents and sheets I create on my Mac are incompatible with my iPad now.
My naievete tells me that this is simply Apple expecting us to upgrade to later levels of hardware. If so, very disappointing for an Apple fan. Seems your App developer approvals (even your own apps) do no require compatibility with anything but IOS 6 or later.There are various things to make your iPad more stable. You can try deleting all apps from the multitasking bar; do a reset ie hold the power and home buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears; Settings > General > Reset all Settings.
If you had the previous version of iPages (version 09) on your Mac before upgrading to Pages 5.2, your Mac should still have that version in Applications, which is still compatible with your version of Pages on your iPad.
If you don't have that version, you can 'Export to Pages 09' which is still compatible with iOS 5.1.1. -
I Have an iPad 2 running iOS 8. When I open email, the email isn't there. I have tried closing the app, turning off the ipad and resetting the iPad. None of that helps. Any ideas? Thanks.
So the app is opening to a white screen then closing on its own? If you have deleted your email accounts & the app is still crashing then I would try resetting all settings (without deleting data).
Did you reboot the iPad after removing the email accounts? If not, try that first holding the home & sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until the apple logo appears, then release & once booted back up, try opening the mail app again.
The problem may have started because one of your email messages might have been corrupt or had a corrupt attachment. If you can access it from a computer, sign into your email & see if there are any that can't be opened or produce errors opening. If so, delete the offending emails then try adding the account back to the iPad. -
I am a first-time iPad owner/user. I bought a relative's original iPad. I want to leave the apps on it and add my own pdfs to read. My itunes account is really for my iPod. iTunes message says that if I "Sync" the iPad will be erase, and become like my iPods. If I make a new iTunes account, would the apps be erased when I tried to use it?
How can I just get my files onto this iPad, and still have the apps that my relative left there for me?

All media and apps are tied to the Apple ID that purchased them.
Without your relatives ID and password, you cannot update any of the Apps.
I am pretty certain he is also violating Apples terms of service by giving you the apps. -
why are most of the apps (anything that has to search) on my iphone4 and ipad (1) running very slow (or not at all) since iOS5 update...esp google. Search seems to go quickly, but then when I try to open a link..nothing. I have turned off icloud.
I am having the same problem. Did turning off iCloud work? Did you just turn everything off or did you actually delete the account off your iPod?

Try a hard reset by pressing the Home button and Wake / Sleep button at the same time, keep them both pressed until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.
This does not lose any data on your iPad. -
I have Geo Asian TV App on my IPad which was working fine before loading ios6. Now if try to run the video in this app, it says adobe reader or html5 required. Can you help
It may have used the YouTube app that is no longer included in iOS. Try downloading the YouTube app in the App Store and see if it works.

Am I the only fool who clicked on update all when my iPad told me updates were available? Two updates loaded just fine, but the other four never updated and now lie useless and grayed out. I had 6 Apps that needed updating on my iPad original. I hit "Update All" and that ruined four Apps. They won't download the updates, nor will they launch and be useable either. I lost Splashtop 2, Bible!, and Mercury Browser! Suggestions?! I don't want to ruin my access to Splashtop 2 for sure.
I fixed it by going through a few steps using iTunes while hooked to my computer.

Many thanks!!First, perform a Reset on the iPad (different from just restarting).
Hold down on both the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears. When you see the Apple logo on the black screen, let go of the buttons.
After the reset, go to "Settings" then "iBooks". Go to "online content" and turn it on. Try downloading from iBooks again.

in iOS 7, double click the Home Button (the round one on the front).
You will see icons for all open apps with a 'screenshot' above each icon. Simply drag any 'screenshot' upwards using 1 finger to close the app.
Most apps don't use much power when inactive but some do including Sat Nav apps -

You have to look at the system requirements for the app. the iPad 1 cannot run a version of iOS higher than 5.1.1. If the app requires a higher veriosn, you cannot run it.
System reqs for any app in the itunes store are at the left edge of the screen.
Fortunately most apps still run on the older iOS version
