IPad photo app or iPhoto

Could someone please advise me on the fundamental differences between the iPad app "photo" and the iPhoto app
Thank you in advance

I'm not sure what part of you need to post in the correct forum is confusing??
iPad and iPhone questions are best ask in the correct forums - iPhoto for the Mac has nothing to do with iPhoto on either (on any IOS device) - the only thing they currently have in common is their names - no other connteciton
Posting iPad and iPhone questions in the iPhoto for Mac forums does not give good answers since there is no connection of any sort as explained

  • IPad Photo App that can be used to display photos

Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows if there's a iPad Photo Application that will allow me to show pictures of my products to a customer instead of using a big bulky workbook. The products would be listed in different categories. Has anyone seen something like this?
    Thanks!

Are you brand new to the iPad? The Photos App that comes on the iPad will do that for you. That is exactly what it is - a photo viewing app.
However, you will have to import photos from your computer to your iPad when you sync via iTunes. If you are a new Mac user, you can import photos onto your Mac in iPhoto. You can create albums or events in order to organize the photos before you sync to your computer. The iPad Photos app will not allow you to organize directly on the iPad so that's why you need to organize and categorize the photos before you sync. You can copy the photos to your computer from a flash drive, external hard drive or from your camera with a USB connection that virtually all point and shoot cameras come with when you buy them.
If you are a PC user, there are applications that will do the same thing as iPhoto ... Picasa? I don't know much about PC software but you can do a search and see what's out there.
There are any number of apps in the app store for use with photos, so you can go there and do a search as well and see if there is an app that let's you organize right on the iPad.
I apologize if I am talking down to you and you are aware of this. I merely interpreted your question as a beginner's query. Maybe I am missing your point ...?

  • Is it possible to load a PDF into the ipad Photos app?

I deal with documents that then have to be sent to a specific site that only accepts .doc, .docx, pdf.
I can't e-mail them, because the site must access iPad so that the documents are correctly received and accounted for.
That site can only access the iPad's Photos, nowhere else.
Is it possible to load one of these three formats into the ipad Photos app?

Thanks Diavonex, but that doesn't work (see my question).
I can easily produces JPGs and load them into Photos, but the site in question can't access them ( it only accepts .doc, .docx, PDF).

  • Is there a simple iPad photo app for WIRED tether?

There are a few app such as CamCharger or Nikon WMAU that makse an interesting but cumbersome attempt at a wireless app for tether shooting. But for me I find that wireless is far too unreliable and slow. The time where it would be most useful, i.e., when shooting freehand outdoors, it is pretty much useless. In a studio, having a cord attached to the camera is not a big problem, however. This would allow much faster download of images.
There is one really simple solution that almost gets the job done: Use the iPad photo adapter which allows you to connect the camera to the iPad using the standard USB cable. When the iPad sense that a camera is connected, it automatically opens the iPad Photo app which then shows you thumbnails of everything that gets recorded on your camera SD card. Great, cheap and easy.
The problem is that if you want to actually view that image at normal size you have to select it and click on Import, then go into the Last Import album and view it there.
Does anyone know of a simple little app that automatically downloads and displays the jpeg from the card on the iPad?  The basic Photo app is almost there but not quite.
    Thanks for any help.
    Bo

I did try that, thanks.  I found one, FreezeFrame, that does work (with some bugs), but it allows only up to 55 minute intervals.  I was hoping to find one with 24 hours maximum interval.  I thought maybe I missed something, since it's a little tedious to check each app for the system requirements.  Kudos to all the app developers out there for keeping their apps up to date, btw.

  • IPad Photos app letterboxes 16:9 content

Is there an app that will let me view a 16:9 photo (e.g., 1920x1080 pixels) full screen on my HDTV?  The iPad Photos app, when mirroring onto the TV, letterboxes such photos on top and bottom to fit into its screen, and then on the sides as well to fit the TV screen, so I end up with a photo on my TV with black all around.  I want the photo to display the full width and height of my TV, since it's already the right shape.
Interestingly, the Photos app will show a 1080p video full screen (i.e., it doesn't simply mirror the iPad screen).  I have not yet found an app that will do this for photos.

I discovered that the Photos app does display photos full screen, but only in slide show mode.  Unfortunately in that mode you can't manually choose when to change slides. As soon as you swip the screen to advance the slide, it reverts back to plain mirroring.
I checked out several apps that play slide shows, and are designed to specifically display pictures out the HDMI port.

  • Strange behaviour of iPad Photos app/My Photo Stream with iOS 8.1 and Yosemite

My requirement is surely simple and commonplace, yet is proving impossible to achieve thanks to Apple's weird design of the Photos app and the way My Photo Stream works.  I'm very technically savvy, but I'm quite prepared to admit I'm being stupid if someone can explain what I'm doing wrong!  I have an iPad Air running iOS 8.1 and a MacBook Pro Retina with OS X 10.10 (Yosemite).  I've enabled iCloud Drive on both.  iPhoto on the Mac is at v9.6.
I have a selection of 109 photos from a recent holiday in a folder on my MacBook, which I would like in a folder on my iPad as a nice way to show them to friends.   iTunes may work but seems so incredibly clunky and old-fashioned I hoped I could do it over the network or via the cloud.  I would use (and often have used) Dropbox, which is reliable and logical but rather tedious as you have to save each photo one by one.
So, with a little research and playing around, I found that I could get them to the iPad using iPhoto on the Mac, with My Photo Stream enabled.  However, it doesn't seem to work.  The photos were all created yesterday so had yesterday's date (I'd removed EXIF data that contained various earlier dates).
I've just done the following test:
I deleted all photos from the iPad (using the Photos app)
On the Mac, I deleted all photos from iPhoto
In iPhoto Preferences on the Mac, I turned on “My photo stream”, with the two sub-options also enabled
I imported the 109 photos into iPhoto
On the iPad, in My Photo Stream, I saw the photos gradually appear over the next few minutes
A  minute or two later, when no more seemed to coming, I found that 103 of the original 109 were in My Photo Stream.  So, strangely, 6 photos were missing
Even stranger, in the “Photos” tab, under “Yesterday” 37 of them could be seen.  If I understand this correctly (which I may not), that means 37 of them had been copied from the My Photo Stream to the iPad itself.  Am I right?  Why only 37?
On the iPad, I added a new Album called Summer 2014
I selected all 103 photos from My Photo Stream to add to the album
In the Summer 2014 album, I briefly see “103 Photos” at the bottom of the album, but this quickly changes to 66 as photos that briefly appeared now disappear, leaving only 66 left in the album
Checking in Photos/Collections/Yesterday, I find there are now 66 photos (rather than 37 as there were earlier) - the same ones that are showing in my Summer 2014 album.
If I attempt to manually add any of the missing photos to the album, nothing happens - the album refuses to allow any more than the 66 it has.
In iPhoto on the Mac, if I click on the SHARED/iCloud entry on the left, I see all 109 photos, which I think means iPhoto has correctly shared them all, so I suspect the problem is with the iPad.
Yesterday, when I was playing with this, the album allowed 68 photos.  I tried deleting one and adding one of the missing photos, but it wouldn't allow this either, so I don't think it's objecting to the number of photos so much as disliking particular ones.
I've got 7.7GB free space on the iPad so I don't think it's a space issue.
Can anyone help?  If it's a bug in iOS, iCloud or OS X, how can I report it, given that I'm out of my 3 months support for both my machines?
    Thank you!

Well done lumacj! This is a good workaround. Forgive me if I offer a simplified version here (this works if original photos are in Photo stream):
    1. In "My photo stream", tap on select at top of screen
    2. Tap on each photo you want to send via WhatsApp (circle with "√" shows for each photo)
    3. Tap on square box with arrow at bottom of screen (Share) - NOT "Add To"
    4. Tap on "Save image(s)"
    5. Check that selected photos now appear on "Camera Roll"
    6. From WhatsApp, send photos as you would have normally

  • IPad Photo App Photo Album

On the iPhone the Photo app has a Camera Roll album and a Photo Library album. Basically the Photo Library album contains the images from the iPhoto iTunes sync on the Mac and the Camera Roll contains iPhone local images. That is what one might expect.
However, the iPad 2 does not have a Photo Library. It has the Camera Roll album similar to the iPhone and a Photo album. In contrast to the iPhone Photo Library, the iPad 2 Photo album contains the images from the iPhoto iTunes sync on the Mac PLUS the images from the iPad 2 Camera Roll album.
    Anyone know why?
Does anyone else see the same thing on their iPad 2?
Anyone know how to get a Photo Library on the iPad 2 that contains only images from the iPhoto iTunes sync on the Mac?
    Thanks.
    Mike

The Photos album on my iPad 2 IOS 5 contains links to Camera Roll images as well as those photos sync'd with iTunes (i.e., it shows ALL images).
ITunes on my MBA has 3 albums: Last Import, Last 12 months, & Photo Library. These same albums are on my iPhone; however, my iPad 2 IOS 5 does not have the "Photo Library" album.
The "Photo Library" shows just the iTunes images from iPhoto. I see this album on the iPhone 4 IOS 5, but do not have it on the iPad 2 IOS 5. Thus the iPad 2 does not give me an album that contains just the iTunes iPhoto images.
As an aside, the iPhone 4 IOS 5 does not have the "Photos" album only the "Photo Library" - a much more useful arrangement for me.
Could you please post a screenshot of the album list on an iPad 2 IOS 5 that shows tha albums? None of the iPad 2's I have looked at have the "Photo Library" album.
    Thanks
    Mike

  • Photos app vs. iPhoto App IOS

On my iPhone and iPad/iPad mini, I have both "Photos" app (a kind of pink/orange starburst icon) and iPhoto for IOS.  I have two questions a search didn't turn up answers for:
    1)  Do I need both these apps?  They both display my photos in similar ways (photos/albums).  I think Photos came with my devices and I think I downloaded iPhoto from the App Store.
    2)  Are they drawing on the same database of photos (presumably my Mac iPhotos and PhotoStream in iCloud) meaning the photos are not taking up doublespace?
I'd like a little space back on my devices and deleting one of these apps (if they aren't "sharing" photos) is a good way I think.  I use Instagram to edit IOS photots - not either of these apps.
    Thanks in advance!
    YvonneinSonoma

    The short answer:
Yes, you need both apps - or may want to have both.
And both are showing you the same photos, but in different ways, and they are just offering differnet views, the photos will not be duplicated.
    See the iPhoto Help:  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/?handbuch#blnka7d353af
All of the photos and video clips in the Photos app on your device automatically appear in iPhoto. You can also import photos into iPhoto from other devices and computers, other apps on the same device, or a digital camera (if you're using iPad)
iPhoto is showing you all photos stored on your iPhone in one place, and you can organize and edit the photos in a more elaborate way than with the Photos app by adding tags and brushing in effects. You can craete Journals andphoto books, and publish slideshows, and share photos to iTunes.
The Photos.app mamages the Camera Roll and is the central sharing place between differnet apps on your iPhone. Also, the Photos.app is the only app that can delete from the Camera roll.
You cannot delete the Photos.app  - it comes with with the system software on your iPhoto. You could delete iPhoto, but the app does not need much space. Transfer your photos to your computer and delete the photos that you do not like.

  • Cannot edit photos in standard IPad photo app

I have a 1st generation IPad.  I recently lost the capability to edit photos through the iPad photo standard supplied app.  I was able to edit photos back in May but it no longer works since I installed the iOS 5.1.1.  Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks Tom.  I took a look at iPhoto but unfortunately it says it is for Ipad2 and up.  So that app will not help.  I took a look at snapseed and that looks like it will also work.  I will also check in at an Apple Stor also.  Does any one else have any other suggestions?

  • IPad Photo App is full of duplicates

My iPad 2 photo app is full of duplicates and is not syncing with iPhoto on my Macbook Pro.
The old OS6 Photo app worked perfectly (and was also much nicer to look at and had more functionality - eg Places view - but I digress)
With this new photo app, If I delete a photo on Macbook Pro and sync, the photo stays on the iPad.
    Any ideas?

How did you rebuild your library? By launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library?
You can use Duplicate Annihilator to cull out the duplicates from your library. I'd make a backup of the iPhoto Library folder just in case the results are worse than what you started with. Better safe than sorry.

  • IOS photo app vs iPhoto, keywords, smart albums, face detection?

    greetings,
i have some questions about iOS photos app in comparison to iPhoto (in 10.8).  i've done a little searching on the web and in the forum, but didn't see this covered...
i always sync my iPhone to my mac, copy/import my photos to iPhoto, and use iPhoto to organize my photos.  in iPhoto, i tag photos (keywords) and use "smart albums" to access all my photos based upon the keyword tags.  face detection in iPhoto is GREAT!.   i have all my friends faces named and finding them by "people" grouping is fantastic.  the down side to all of this is that i have everything working great on my mac, but usually i'm using the photos app in the iPhone to show pics to my friends since that is what i have with me.  i'm not sure if this information in iPhoto ever gets synced back to my iPhone.
1- does the iOS photos app have any of these features from iPhoto?
in other words, can i tag photos, lable the faces of friends, set up smart albums in iOS photos?  if so, please point me to some info.  i haven't seen an obvious way to do any of this.
2- can i sync what i do in iPhoto back to my iPhone?
in other words, can i get the tags, peoples' names on their faces, and smart albums copied from iPhotos back to my iPhone?  is there some setting or command in iPhoto, or somewhere else?
3- i just turned on photostream.  can/does this iPhoto data transfer via photostream to the iPhone?
    i have an iPhone 4.
i am just about ready to upgrade from iOS 5 to iOS 6.  so if any of these features are specific to iOS 6, please let me know.
i'd appreciate it if you could mention if there is anything special about iOS in the iPad, because a friend has asked me how she can do in her iPad (iOS 6), what i do with iPhoto in my mac.
thank you for any suggestions or advice.

You're best bet would be to do your own comparison: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/iphoto/id497786065?mt=8

  • 2 questions re: ipad Photo app

    1. I have synced all of my events from iphoto to the photos app on my ipad. For some reason the events folders, which I have all renamed in iphoto, do not present in alphabetical order on my ipad. For example, "Wedding" comes before "Christmas" with "Halloween" in between and so on. Is it possible to get these to show up in alphabetical order on my ipad, as they are in iphoto?
    2. Is it possible to look at my photos on my ipad and "rate" them (for example, give one photo one star, another one two stars, and another one five stars, etc), or does such rating have to be done in iphoto on my iMac?
    Thanks!

I don't think there's any particular effort made to mirror iPhoto in the iPad's Photos app. The main complaint now, from most users, is that the current OS install only has the date-ordered, oldest-first display option available.

  • Windows Application that syncs to iPad Photos app?

We gave my mother an iPad for Christmas. One of the things I know she wants to do with it is share her photos with people. The problem is, she's on Windows so no iPhoto to give her a means to organize all those pictures.
Because of this, they are in countless folders and sub-folders. iTunes doesn't seem to offer a very good means as selectively syncing those photos where I imagine it's support for an app like iPhoto is much better for obvious reasons.
I guess what I'm wondering is whether or not there is an app for Windows that would serve the same basic function as iPhoto and be compatible with an iPad? Now, that may mean it's something iTunes can work with directly the way it would iPhoto or it might mean there's a corresponding app on the iPad that the program syncs photos to.
I'm open to ideas here. The only thing I doubt she'd want to do is upload all her photos to the internet. For one, there are a great many of them and two she always has concerns about privacy.
Any recommendations you all can make, whether it's apps to try or just simply methods for making this whole system work better, please share them.
Two things I would add is she's using XP and she does have the iPad Camera Kit.

  • Image preview not working with 3rd party photo apps in iPhoto/Image Capture

I haven't had a problem until recently with the iPhone 4. Pictures taken with third party photo apps such as Shake It Photo or Hipstamatic no longer generate a thumbnail preview in either iPhoto or Image Capture. It's just a generic jpg icon. All pictures taken with Apple's camera app appear just fine. I also had a problem where I couldn't import any of the photos, but I restarted the phone a couple times and that seemed to fix the importing issue, but not the thumbnail preview issue. This is particularly weird because i've been importing pictures since the first day this phone came out, and it's only been doing this since yesterday.
I know a lot of people are having problems getting their iPhoto to recognize the phone at all or that there are photos on the phone, but is anyone else having the same problem as me? Any solutions? I have iPhoto 8.1.2.
    Thanks!

I have this issue but didn't recognize it until I read your post. I thought it was 2 bad photos.
I'll subscribe to this tread to see if anyone comes up with a fix.

  • IPad Photo App with the ability to write on the image with stylus?

Is there a photo app for 4th generation iPad that allows me to take a picture and then write on the image with a stylus? I'm in the sign business and that would be ideal for on site assessments (write dimensions and notes)

Creating notes using stylus on the application is not possible on Adobe Reader Touch.
But, you can add a sticky note on the document. To add a sticky note, launch app bar, select Comments button and then select Sticky Note option and click on the point where you want you add the sticky note.
