IPad photos in A-Z folder order

Please could you tell me how I can sort out the 12,000 photos I have on my iPad in alphabetical order. They are divided into approximately 100 folders and all named. I want them on my iPad in alphabetical order so I can easily find a folder by name. They are in alphabetical order on my iMac, so why are they not in alphabetical order on my iPad? It is very frustrating trying to find a particular folder when they are not in A-Z order.

If you are syncing them from folders on your Mac (and them goes for PCs) then they will be sorted by their capture date. If you want them in alphabetical order then you either need to sort and sync via iPhoto or Aperture, or if you are not using them you must manipulate their date taken fields. There is more info on photo sorting here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221

  • After syncing Pc-Ipad my Photo's are out of order. In the folders they don't follow the Date-order. I use Itunes 10.6.1.7 and Ipad 5.1. The Problem is the same with XP and Windows 7.

After syncing PC-Ipad my Photo's on Ipad2 are out of order. In the Folders/Albums the Photo's are no longer in the order of (EXIF) dates. I have updated Itunes to 10.6.1.7 and IPad2 to 5.1. I have reset the IPad2. I cleaned the Photo-cache and removed Itunes and Installed again. I tried it with Windows 7 (64) and XP, makes no difference. I tried it with one Album, Photo's also out of order. It doesn't seem to happen with my Ipad1 older software version. I there a bug in the newest software? Thanks for Help!

  • I cannot sync my ipad photos to itunes on Windows 7 because it can't find   a "new folder." I don't know what this means. How to fix it?

I can't sync my ipad photos to windows itunes in Windows 7 because it can;t find a "new folder" How do I fix this?

It's not entirely clear to me, but I assume that you are trying to copy photos from the iPad to your computer (as opposed to syncing photos from your computer to the iPad), possibly using the windows camera wizard ? If so then the message is saying that it can't find a folder called 'New folder' on your computer which is presumably where it copied the last set of photos to (?). I don't use the wizard to copy the photos from iPad (I do it manually via windows explorer) so I don't know how it works, but aren't you able to tell it to copy the photos to a different folder on your computer other than one called 'new folder' ?  This page gives basic info for copying photos from the iPad to your computer http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 (it is not done via iTunes).
If you want to copy photos to the iPad from your computer then there are instructions on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 - that is done via iTunes using the Photos tab on the right-hand side of iTunes when you've selected the iPad on the left-hand side of it

  • Is there a way to add photos to the iPad without replacing the ones already loaded?  I am trying to add photos from a folder on a computer that does not contain the other iPad photos.

Is there a way to ADD photos to my iPad without replacing the ones already there?  I am trying to add photos from a computer that does not contain photos already synced to the device.

You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

I've created a photo book in iphoto on my ipad.  When I try to order it (by clicking the price of the book in the top right corner) it says that Your book contains empty photo frames - add photos to the empty frames, or change the page layout to include fewer photos" but when I look at each page, there are photos in all the frames.  What do I need to do to order this book??????
Thanks so much for any help offered!

It doesn't appear under the iPad device on the left-hand sidebar of iTunes, you need to select the iPad device on the sidebar and then select the Photos tab on the right-hand side of iTunes e.g.
And then on the right-hand side :

  • Why do only some photos appear in iCloud folder on my PC and not all taken on iPhone appear on iPad either? All settings seem correct and new photos now seem to be appearing on all devices, but not all older or recent photos

Why do only some photos appear in iCloud folder on my PC and not all taken on iPhone appear on iPad either? All settings seem correct and new photos now seem to be appearing on all devices, but not all older or recent photos, even if taken at same time. All advice greatly appreciated.

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

  • Help, how do I get iPad Photos to sort the way I want?

    I'm at wits end!
After a week of constant sync/re-sync/re-name-stripping out all EXIF data, I'm still at the mercy of some random sort order for some of my photos.
I have read: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4221 - which seems to indicate that it reads the EXIF data first. I have stripped all EXIF data from all my photos in hopes that it will resort to alphabetical order of the file-names. But it doesn't seem to do so - it seems to still rely on last modified date of the file itself. Short of copying individually hundreds of photos over in the order that I want - I don't know what to do. Additionally, through trial and error, it seems that it doesn't recognize differences in timestamp in the seconds, only minutes - ARGH!! Is anyone else having such a hard time to get the iPad to sort the photos by filename in an order that I specify?
I am not on Mac and cannot use iPhoto to sort, so I am on the PC side and order my photos using ACDSee and batch rename them so that they are alphabetically correct.
Please, its essential that they are grouped in my order, but I can't for the last week coax my iPad to display in alphabetical filename order (it seems simple enough?!) I'm so frustrated!!
    Please help.

I do not understand what you mean by a problem with downsizing large image, the images I have dragged over are exactly the same size as on my home computer, I can see it may cause the IPad problems if you are trying to transfer 50 mb tiff files or something similar, it really is not designed for that type of image.
My workflow is as follows, I work up my raw files and save a copy as a tiff for printed output, for web or iPad use I make an approx 2 Mb jpeg file.
I make a folder with an appropriate title, insert the required images, the images are sorted either by the original camera file numbering or if I want items in a particular order I will start a number 1 and continue, Airsharing will respect your ordering sequence, so number 1 will always be number 1.
As a viewer Air Sharing in my opinion is better than the photo app because it leaves your images in the order you have set, to view an image you open the folder click on number 1 or whatever is your 1st image, that
opens full screen, you have the choice of moving through the folder singly by clicking the arrow head at the bottom right/left of the screen or a slide show by clicking the centre arrow head, you set the time on screen etc.
If you put the same selection of images on the iPad via the Photo app it would number your images in a way you have little control over and will even optimise your image even if you do not want it to !
The Airsharing library is seperate from the photo library, you can move images to the photo library but why would you want to do that ? All your image sorting is done on your computer prior to the transfer, surely you do not want an app making decisions on you behalf ?
To me it is a perfect portfolio app because I make all the decisions about file size, sequence of images how I want to display them, singly or as a slideshow I am in control not Apple.

  • Is there a way to view image numbers in iPad photos, either of images taken with the iPad or of images copied into Photo (or camera roll) on the iPad?

Is there a way to view image numbers (metadata) on the iPad Photo app, distinguishing those taken with the internal camera from those downloaded from external camera or copied from an email?

sberman: My iMac is running iTunes 11.0.2 already. As well, the Photos tab in the iTunes window shows that "Sync Photos from" is un-checked. And in the box to the right of it is the greyed-out empty folder that I previously synced to in order to remove photos from the Camera Roll.
Ralph9430: I did a reset (Home + Sleep) earlier when I was trying everything I could think of. I have also re-synced a couple of times. No luck.
Thanks anyway. I was hoping someone out there would tell me they've experienced the same problems (non-functioning DELETE button, and persistent data in Photo Library), even if they haven't found a solution. Then I could assume it's a iOS 6 bug. All I can think of to do next is a full iPad restore.

  • Photos Out of Sequence in Sub-Folders in iPad Photos App

I use my iPad when working with ballplayers. Specifically, I use the Photos app with sub-folders for each set of photos. I have tens of thousands of photos in a hundred or so folders. It's very important that the photo albums be in numerical order (the photos are all named numerically).
This used to work just fine, but now I am finding that, in more and more cases, photos are out of sequence.
I upgraded my iPad specifically for this function, and it's making me look unprofessional and is forcing me to have to explain around the glitches.
Is there any way to control how the Photos app sorts photos and ensure that photos are sorted by the file name and number?
This bug is on the verge of turning a valuable tool into little more than a toy.
P.S. The issue may be related to folders that have a larger number (e.g. 100-200+) of photos in each folder.

Everyone please report this to Apple; you can do so here: https://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Right now, there's no dropdown selection for iOS 8, but I selected "iOS 7.1.2" and wrote this in the comments after describing the issue: "I am using iOS 8, but there's not dropdown selection for iOS 8 on the following question, so I picked iOS 7.1.2.."  Also, for me, the Submit button wasn't there, but it is located to the right of where it says, "Please read Apple’s Unsolicited Idea Submission Policybefore you send us your feedback."
Hopefully the more people that report this, the more quickly they will fix this.

  • Synching photos from a select folder via iTunes on my Windows 7 PC

I copied many individual photos from different folders into a special folder on my desktop.  I synched up, clicked on "selected albums...", clicked on this special desktop folder, and then "Apply."  Only about 20 of 170 photos made it into my iPad however.  How can I transfer all the photos to my iPad?

This worked, thanks!  But now I have a new problem.  I carefully ordered the photos (by re-naming them, and then sorting them alphabetically by name in ascending order) so they would appear in the order that I liked, but the photos on the iPad are in a completely different order.  How do I fix that?  How does the iPad sequence photos?  Do I have to re-order the photos in the folder so they appear in the same order in the iPad?  If so, how?  Thanks

  • Can't get photos in iCloud upload folder on pc to upload - help?

I've asked this question before but no answer for the problem. I believe I have everything set up properly on all my iOs devices and on my PC (where I have the iCloud control panel working). The problem is that any pictures I drop into the Upload folder for photostream don't ever upload to the cloud. All the pics I take on my iPhone or iPad will show up in the download folder on my PC, but not the other way around. I've logged out of iCloud on the PC and logged back in but hasn't helped. I've changed the upload folder, but that doesn't matter.
We take lots of photos that are loaded by SD card onto our pc and want many of them loaded to iCloud for viewing on our iOs devices but just can't figure it out.
    Any help would be appreciated!

    Two tips:
    (1) Are you sure that the "My Photostream" function on each and every one of your iOS devices is turned ON?
    (2) In my experience, once the My Photostream function is on, dragging and dropping still photos into the Uploads folder works. But it does not (for me, at least) work for videos.  I thought it would.
Hope this helps. If you -- dwcliff -- or anybody else reading this reply would like me to clarfy anything further, as your questions, and I will respond to them as best I can!

  • HELP! Why do my iPad Photos Scramble each time I Sync?

HELP! Each time I sync my iPad photos, my previous albums' organization scrambles (the order I've arranged my photo albums scrambles).
THIS IS WHAT I DO: On my iPad, I tap the PHOTOS app, then tap ALBUMS to see each of the albums I've created. I then tap EDIT in the upper right hand corner. I then painstakingly try to place all my many albums in the order that I'd like them to remain on my iPad. Then I tap DONE in the upper right hand corner.
However, EVERY TIME I sync my iPad, this order completely scrambles back to what I can only decifer is the time-line (order by calendar date) in which I created the albums. Aargh! So frustrating!
I am a Fine Artist (camille-engel.com)... I use my iPad primarily for work. I'd like my ART photos remain at the top for easy, quick access... and I'd like my 'family" & 'personal' photos to be at the bottom. This should be how the iPad photos app should function. Am I doing something wrong?
I look forward to your replies and excitedly await a SOLUTION to this frustrating problem. Thanks!

Oh... and just so you know I work from a MAC OS X, version 10.5.8 computer, syncing to my iPad.

Synced photos do not appear in order when viewed on apple tv.  Shuffle is turned off, have downloaded photos from 2 cameras on computer & saves them in folder, renamed them so they are in correct order but when viewed on apple tv they are not in correct order.  Have tried renaming them numerous times & they are not in correct order.

This used to work properly till Nov 2012.
After I upgraded to Ios 6.0.1, this has stopped working

  • IPhone and iPad photos - Sort by date taken

If your photos are not sorted by the date the photos were taken, here's how to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.
I encountered the problem when syncing my photo library from my computer to my iPhone and iPad.  Almost all the photos were sorted properly by the date they were taken except for photos taken with a Nikon D70S SLR Camera.  The photos from the Nikon D70S were being sorted using the date the sync was performed (not the file creation date nor the EXIF data date).  This caused my photo album to not have all the photos in a nice chronological order.
First I checked to ensure the photos output from the Nikon D70S contained the EXIF "date taken" data and they did indeed have the proper date in the EXIF data. Next I checked to see if the EXIF version number was in each file and it was.  I then noticed the EXIF version number output by the Nikon D70S was formatted differently than the other sources (e.g. differently than other Nikon cameras, other iPhones, etc).
I then viewed the EXIF data for the Nikon D70S photos in the Adobe Photoshop organizer and found the EXIF version number was missing.  It was clearly in the Nikon original files (I use RAW format when taking photos with the Nikon D70S).  This led me to suspect Adobe Photoshop Elements was not exporting the data in a form Apple iTunes could read when I was converting the Nikon .NEF files (RAW format) to .JPG files (needed for Apple iTunes and the iPhone and Ipad products).  Most likely iTunes needs both the EXIF date taken and EXIF version number when syncing photos into iTunes, if the EXIF version number is missing, it uses the date the sync was performed as the date when sorting the photo file in the iPhone and iPad photo viewer.
I then used Adobe Creative Suite / Adobe Bridge (at our office, it's used for graphic arts work along with regular Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, etc.) to export the files from Nikon .NEF  RAW format to .JPG format and found it output the EXIF data including the EXIF date taken date and EXIF version in a form readable by iTunes.
By using Adobe Creative Suite / Adobe Bridge instead of Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer to convert the Nikon D70S .NEF files to .JPG format (for subsequent import into the iPhone and iPad via iTunes), the process worked properly and the photos are sorted by date taken properly.
