Ipad play quicktime movies?

I am wondering if the ipad is capable of playing quicktime movies? I often make screen movies using quicktime for my job. It would be helpful to be able to hook up the ipad to a projector and play these movies. Thanks for any feedback.

Having issues as well. My case, I took a longish (11 minute) HD video w/ my Canon T1i camera. iPhoto pulled the file off my camera as a 2.1GB .MOV file encoded as H.264 30fps 26.75Mb/s 1280x720 video.
For the life of me I cannot get that movie onto my iPad. I finally made a special playlist just for my videos and while the video appears in that playlist in iPhoto, it doesn't show up on the iPad, even though the playlist and (what initially looks like) all the other videos do.
I'm going to go test that I'm able to get any video from my camera through that workflow onto the camera, as I've got a tiny suspicion it's the 2.1GB file size (despite the fact the iPad has plenty of space).

    I'm wondering if the ipad can play quicktime movies. I sometimes make screen recordings on my mini mac and it would be helpful to be able to take these into work on something more portable. I do not see a mention of Quicktime in the video specs for the ipad but I'm pretty much a layperson with some of the terms so wasn't sure. Thank you for any feedback.

    I can no longer play quicktime mov files from a canon firestore from an HDV camera that play on other macs and play in vlc. It happened all of a sudden. Files that I could play before no longer play. It seems to be something wrong with the quicktime codec management because the files do not play in premiere and final cut pro. In FCP it says: File Error: 1 File(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown. These files work on other computers. I have four drives and it doesnt matter which file i attempt to open on each drive, these files are unreadable on this system. Please help. Possible issues might be a corrupted index, but i dont understand how that can go across four different drives.

    Apple kindly updated Quicktime and rendered Firestore files unplayable. I think a recent update of iTunes was the culprit.
    Solutions: What I did. Wipe the system disc. Re-install Snow Leopard. Re-install FCP7. Don't update Quicktime or iTunes to anything after Jun 2011. QT v7.6.6 is the last good version. That'll get your files back.
    A colleague tried a different approach. For this you need a pre-July 2011 version of the file QuickTimeComponents.component.  It is in the system/library/QuickTime folder. Delete your current one and drop in an old one.
    However if you're working with Final Cut X, I think you screwed until Focus and Apple work something out. My address is on my contacts page at teevideousadotcom if you need any further help.

  • Quicktime 7.2 will not play Quicktime Movies

    Ironic isn't it.
    I recently purchased Sony's Movie Studio and it required a new(er) verson of Quicktime to import QT movies. So I download 7.2 ( i had 7.01, if I remember correctly) and installed it. I can now import QT into Vegas for editing. Fine. Great.
    BUT, and here is the ironic part, Quicktime will no longer play Quicktime movies! Not .mov, .mp4, nothing. Zip. Zilch. But it will play some old avi files for some reason. All I get is the audio and flashing striped colors. Until 7.2 I could load any .mov, avi, mp4 file and edit them without a problem. (I forgot to mention, I had QT Pro) I was also using Any Video Converter to convert old home movies I'd burned to dvd to the mp4 format, and Quicktime worked flawlessly to open them too. Up until this "update" I've been very happy with the performance of Quicktime.
    Now, nothing but frustation and the online Support hasn't pointed to a solution. And yes, I have updated my Dell PC running XP to all the latest service packs.
    Any ideas? If I delete 7.2 I could probably re-install a version of 6 Pro that always worked, but then Vegas Movie Studio won't work. Kind of a Catch-22. Thank you for any help.

    It has helped some who have had this problem. Try dragging the QuickTime webplugin folder to the desktop in case you need to put it back and see.

  • How to play quicktime .mov files on iphone

    I would like to be able to play quicktime (.mov) files on my iphone4s but I get a message that my file cannot be played on this iphone.
    I created the file in keynote, exported it to a quicktime movie with the manual advance option.
    My goal is to be able to use iphone to connect to a projector with a iphone to vga adapter and thus project my presentations from the iphone.
    But I cannot import import it using itunes to the iphone.
    Wondering if there is an app that plays quick time movies or some other option.
    The reason I cannot export from keynote is that it does not give the option for manual advance.
    It only provides a fixed time option.

    Why won't quicktime player work? I own Mac Book Pro with Retina Display and connote get the quicktime player to open or play quicktime movies?

    Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Preferences/com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
    Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
    If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
    Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • 3gs playing QuickTime Movies

    I created a website
    ustube.me
    But the iphone will not allow the videos to play because they are quicktime.
    Is there any type of app that would allow the videos from the website to be viewable on the iphone? Of course if I publish them in itunes I can view them that way, but I cannot imagine that my website which is done on iweb, imovie, hosted by Apple, creating Quicktime movies (all Apple products) will not allow the videos to play on the iphone.
    thanks

    When exporting a movie from iMovie, there is an option for the export to make the export iPhone compatible, or iPhone and Apple TV compatible, etc. Did you select a size for the export that included being iPhone compatible?

  • No video when playing QuickTime MOV file in iTunes

    I received a QuickTime MOV file from a business associate who transferred it from his Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder to his Mac. When I load up the file in iTunes on my Win XP machine, it will play back the audio, but there is no video. When I try to play it back in QuickTime, a window comes up telling me that additional software is needed. When I click the button to go download the software, a browser window comes up listing about 15 different products -- with no indication of which if any will solve the problem. I don't know for certain that any of them will, and I don't have time to download 15 products to test each one. Is there not a more simple way to find out what I need and where to download it? Alternatively, is there a way to convert this file to a friendlier format? This is video of a business event that we need to edit for distribution.

    Thanks. That explains it. The person who made the .wmv file says it was made with Camtasia Studio. Do you have any idea what he might have done for it to choose this MSS2 codec over something more universally compatible?
    Camtasia is a screen capture application for Windows (like Snapz Pro for mac). We use it here, it works quite well but you get WMV files and tough darts, I guess if you want other than that. I presume real time capture of activity on the screen calls for a codec simple enough to keep up and not drop frames. It does work quite well though.
    Play it on WMP in Parallels, Boot Camp, etc.

  • Issue with playing quicktime movie on win pc

    I've run into an issue with dvds a friend burned on a mac. The quicktime
    movie files on the discs play fine on macs, but will begin to stutter
    and freeze 35 minutes in on win xp. i've tried multiple pcs with no
    luck.
    The same thing happens when I copy the files to the hard drive. I tried the VLC
    player instead of quicktime, but that closes altogether after 35 minutes. I
    also tried copying the files to an external hard drive with the same results.
    Quicktime is at latest version.
    I saw a post here about files over 1GB being problematic in windows with the FAT file system. The PCs I'm using are using the NTFS file system. The files are over 2GB, and they spaz out at the halfway mark, so perhaps that is part of the problem. But I'm stunned that there aren't more posts on this topic if that's the case.
    Any help would be much appreciated!

    I have had similar problems. I have not experienced the
    looping problem but I very often experience the problem of
    Quicktime not playing in Shockwave.I think that I can solve the
    second part of your problem ( if I understand it correctly).
    You can make a streaming progress sprite for quicktime that
    indicates to the end user what percentage of the Quicktime movie
    has streamed. The sprite appears as a small box that shows a 1 then
    a 2 then a 3 etc up to 100. You can of course make another text
    sprite that tells the user what the numbers mean e.g. % streamed.
    Method
    Make a text sprite and leave it blank (this text sprite will
    show the appropriate number during enduser viewing) name the member
    stream display. Name the Quicktime member swing 1a and put it in
    the timeline. Right click on the quicktime sprite in the stage
    window and in the resulting pop up menu select Script . In the
    Script window write the following script
    on exitFrame me
    member("stream display").text=\
    string(member("swing1a").percentStreamed)
    end

  • Safari 6.1 on MacOS 10.8.5 not play quicktime movies

    Trying to view quicktime movies in Safari brings up the Quicktime Q graphic with a big question mark. Safari->Help-> Installed Plug-Ins includes:
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.7.1
    The QuickTime Plugin allows you to view a wide variety of multimedia content in web pages. For more information, visit the QuickTime Web site. — from file “QuickTime Plugin.plugin”.
    in the list of plug ins and the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder does have the file "QuickTime Plugin.plugin".
    I have tried downloading the older Quicktime Player 7.app and then rebooting the computer and I still cannot view the Quicktime movies in Safari. I can view the quicktime movies in Firefox (version 24.0).
    I have also deleted the items in the Library folder:
    Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
    Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
    Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
    rebooting and relaunching Safari all with negative results.
    All of these have been suggested by people in previous postings dating back to Fall 2012 or earlier, so I'm out of ideas.
    Is there anything else I should try?
    Running Safari 6.1 on Mac OS 10.8.5 on a MacBook Pro with Retina display.

    Well, this was on webpages I had created as lecture slides for my classes. I've just discovered that Safari acts differently if I view other websites than if I view webpages on my own computer's harddrive. If I put an example page on the webserver
    http://www2.bakersfieldcollege.edu/nstrobel/astronomy/s3test.htm
    and bring it up in Safari, I can see the quicktime movie in Safari.
    When I view the same webpage (s3test.htm) that has the quicktime movie embedded in it on my local harddrive, Safari displays the shaded Quicktime logo with the big question mark.
    Why Safari should care whether the webpage is on some webserver vs. having the same file and graphics on the local computer harddrive is beyond me.
    Since all of my lecture slides are webpages I have created, I'd like to know what hooks or coding I now need to put in the html to get Safari to display the movies in my lecture slide webpages on my local computer's harddrive.
    Here's the very simple html code for the s3test.htm file:
    ============
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Sun's Interior</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <h2>The Sun is entirely hot gas all the way to the center.</h2>
    <center>
      <embed src="circS10.mov" width="640" height="500" loop="true"></embed>
    </center>
    <H2>Interior</H2>
    <UL>
              <LI>
                <h3>Core: 16 million K and density 20 times greater than iron but still gaseous!
                  Energy generated here in the innermost 10% of the Sun's mass.
          </h3>
              <LI>
                <h3>Radiative Zone:
          Photons carry energy outward. About 85% of the Sun's radius.</h3>
              <LI>
                <h3>Convection Zone: Photons blocked, so huge chunks of gas carry energy outward to surface. Outer 15% of
    the Sun's radius.</h3>
              <LI>
                <h3><em>Photosphere: </em>here the photons finally escape to space. The part we see. Only 500 kilometers thick.
    About 5840 K.</h3>
    </UL>
    </body>
    </html>
    ===========
    That code works just fine if I put the s3test.htm + circS10.mov quicktime movie files on the www2.bakersfieldcollege.edu webserver (or any other webserver), but it does not work if the files are on my local harddrive. Firefox works fine either way.

  • Trouble playing QuickTime movie from Keynote

    Hi everyone,
    Keynote '09 5.1.1 (1034), QuickTime Player 10.0 (131)
    I've got a Keynote presentation that I'd like to have as a movie so it can be shared. I want to utilize the "manual advance" feature that pauses the video when specified and waits for a click to advance the slideshow. But when I export (Share>Export>Quicktime), I have trouble getting the movie to play right.
    Without a playback control panel (doesn't appear--and isn't supposed to I gather), after playing around with the magic mouse and keyboard, here's what I get (I can't find an explanation of keyboard shortcuts):
    Just clicking the mouse plays the first slide, then stops the show at the end of that first slide. Clicking again does the same thing. It doesn't advance. The slideshow is designed to go automatically to the next slide and does so in Keynote.
    Scrolling up can forward the video to the next slide or more, but then clicking just plays the first slide again and stops. Scrolling down goes backward in the same way.
    Scrolling left or right while the video is playing lowers or raises the volume.
    Hitting the up arrow key plays it backwards, sound and all. Hitting the down arrow plays it forwards.
    Only after playing it (not just scrolling it--playing it) backwards--then forwards--will it advance to the next slide and work as I hoped it would, pausing at the right places where a click is needed to advance the movie. I found this by accident, but it works repeatedly, even after closing out QuickTime and opening the movie again.
    Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm new to Keynote and don't use QuickTIme for much other than previewing videos. I'm hoping to share this video with many other people who aren't very computer literate, and making many similar videos. I want the other viewers to be able to play the video and just click once in a while (when the video asks them to.)
    I would very much appreciate any help.

    Welcome to the discussions, Christopher.
    Over in the Keynote discussions we've been going over this for quite awhile. Unfortunately, there's no easy solution to your problem. I've even gone as far as attempting to preload the chapter track thinking that might solve the problem, but it doesn't work.
    One thing I don't think I've tried is setting up the first slide to advance "on-click" so that there's no animation before the first transition. The problem, of course, is that there's no "loading" animation to let it know when it's ready to go.
    Another thing I haven't tried but that might work is to create the movie so that it doesn't autoplay, and then, using the embed commands, set autoplay to be the full length of the movie (so that it will automatically play, but only after it's completely downloaded). Look here for the autoplay embed commands.

  • Playing quicktime movies in Keynote 3

    Hi, Is it possible to place two or more quicktime videos on a single keynote slide so they show without all simultaneously playing? I want to be able to click any of the videos so they play independently. I have tried various workarounds without success, but am getting very frustrated.
    Comments greatly appreciated.

    Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    The problem is, there's no build called "Play media" so, you have to do a work around. First you use any build (I usually use the appear build) on each movie, and check your timings. You won't see the movies before they play, but they'll play in the order you want. Then you have to basically take a screen shot of the movie, or open them in QT and copy one frame that you want to represent the movie. Paste that frame on the slide and stick it right where each movie is sitting, then send it behind the movie. You'll get something that LOOKS like a slide full of movies, and each time you click the mouse, each movie will come in on top of the picture of the movie and play.
