IPad playlist

How do I view the playlist after I've picked a song and clicked the genius icon?

Okay so I just spent about half an hour on the phone with an expert (thanks for the contact suggestions) and we developed a workaround that will not only stop the problem, but will make your old playlists that ate themselves magically reappear! Weird, right? He thought so too, so he had me try a bunch of stuff and he's sending a report to the engineers so they can figure out why it was happening in the first place. But for now here's what you do:
Connect your iPad to your computer.
Set iPad to "Sync music" (instead of manually managing).
Select just a few artists to have sync so that it doesn't take a lot of time, because you'll be putting it back on manually manage shortly, so it doesn't matter what music you choose.
Click "Apply."
All the playlists that we thought were forever gone will both show up on the iPad and sync back to your computer.
Now you can choose "manually manage" again and the problem should be solved - sort of. When you create a playlist on your iPad now under manually manage, the playlist won't eat itself like it used to, but it won't sync back to the computer either. He told me that that part of it sort of makes sense because nothing syncs under manually manage, but the deleting itself thing definitely didn't, and neither did the way the deleted ones reappeared again. So he's sending the report to the engineers and will let me know back soon.

  • I have added an album to my itunes library, put it in a playlist all on my computer, but when I sync my ipad to the computer, the new album doesn't show up on my ipad playlist. Everything else is on there but this one album.

I have downloaded an album in to my iTunes library. And put it in a playlist on my computer.
But I can't get it to sync with my iPad.  The other albums and songs are on the playlist, but not this one album for some reason.
The album shows up on my iPad as an album just fine, but isn't included in the playlist like it is on my computer.
Why won't it show up on my iPad playlist?

    Hello William,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like you would like to delete some songs off of your iPad.  I have a couple of suggestions.
First, I recommend swiping the individual songs on the album to get the delete option:
Remove a song that’s been downloaded. Swipe left, then tap Delete.
If the you are not getting a delete option and song has a cloud icon to the right of it, this indicates the song is being streamed from iTunes in the Cloud.
You can choose to hide all songs that are not downloaded on to your iPad in Settings:
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.

Alternatively, if the song was purchased from iTunes, you can hide the song by accessing the iTunes Store on the computer:
    To hide your purchases
Open iTunes on your Mac or PC.
From the Store menu, choose Store > Sign In, and then enter your Apple ID and password.
    Go to the iTunes Store.
Click Purchased from the Quick Links section on the right side of the iTunes Store.
Choose a content type by clicking on Music, TV Shows, Apps, or Books from top.
Hover your cursor over the item you want to hide.
You will see an "X" either to the right or left top corner of the item.
Click the "X" to hide that item. A confirmation dialog will appear once you click the "X."

You will need to quit and relaunch the Music app on your iPad after hiding the purchase on your computer before seeing the changes.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Purchased on iPad Playlist not showing in iTunes

My "Purchased on iPad" playlist is missing from the "Store" section on the left in iTunes. Is there a way to put it back?

I received a very helpful email response from leaonmichae (Thanks so much!) but it's not showing up for me when I view this thread. When I click the email link to view this discussion I get a message saying, "Unauthorized. It appears you're not allowed to view what you requested. You might contact your administrator if you think this is a mistake." Any idea what this is all about?
Let me clarify my problem, The response was about transferring sones from my iPod to my iTunes. These songs are not  missing from iTunes. They are in iTunes -- they just aren't in this specific iTunes playlist anymore. but they are in this playlist on my iPod.
Given this new info, any thoughts on solving this problem? Thanks for any help.
(BTW, the info leaonmichae provided will really help me with a long standing problem, how to transfer my iTunes library from my Desktop to Notebook computer. Thanks again for that. :-). Also, after posting this I still only see my two messages with no other responses.

So I bought a brand new MacBook Pro. I transferred the apps I bought on my iPad to my new machine and I now sync my apps, contacts, bookmarks and calendar. No sweat. However, I have a ton of music on my iPad (not bought in the iTunes Store) neatly organized in many playlists. How can I export my iPad playlists to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro? Nothing seems to work. Thank you for answering.

  • How do I transfer my iPad playlist to iTunes?

I have the latest version of iTunes and I have an iPad 2. I want to transfer my playlist from my iPad to iTunes without using a third party software. I remember there used to be a way!!  Can anyone help?

I have the same issue and trying to resolve how to transfer cd downloads to itunes from ipad2.
Is 3rd party software the only solution ?
What works the best in doing the transfer ?
I get a kick out of Apple support saying it is a copyright issue that precludes them from allowing this when they endorse the download into itunes !
Please advise on recommended process...I've even thought about going to the Apple Store  and seeing if anyone might offer more help than Apple Support
    Thanks to all,
    Jim

  • Ipad playlist to itunes

My macbook pro recently crashed and was without a backup. Currently, I have a new hard drive and when I try to sync my Ipad, iTunes will keep trying to erase the playlists that I have on my Ipad.
Is there a way to retrieve the songs, pictures and playlist off my Ipad which in a way was a backup to my iTunes items?

This only works for purchased content. If the songs were on the iPad as a result of imported CD's, you need a third party app to transfer those. That is why I referenced the TouchCopy Application. That will transfer everything into iTunes. But of course - it isn't free.
There is never an absolute guarantee that your playlists will transfer exactly when you use a process like this - unless you have a backup of the iTunes library or a Time Machine backup. I recently purchased a new MacBook and was able to transfer everything - with no worries at all from my Time Machine backup.
Since you have no backup, you just have to find other ways that will work for you. The discussion talks about all of the possibilities - you just have to decide on how you want to achieve what you want to do. There just is no magical way without a backup of the iTunes library.

  • IPad Playlist Problem with Movies

On my iPhone, I was able to setup a playlist of movies and videos so that they would play continually based on my list or in shuffle. On my iPad, after playing the first video, the iPad reverts to the Video application and stops. I then have to manually select the second video but then stops after that video. Is this an issue with the iPad or some settings? I couldn't find any settings that would fix this issue.

to play a playlist of movies continually you can try workaround with changing "Media Kind" to "TV Show" from thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12751134&#12751134
it's worked with iOS 4.2.1 on iPad.

  • HT1386 MY COMPUTER SHOWS MY IPAD PLAYLIST BUT MY IPAD DOESN'T

I downloaded some cds and movies to my itunes account on my computer. I then synced my ipad. On the computer when I check my playlist on my ipad everything shows up.  When i hit the itunes on my ipad, I dot not get any playlists. I only get the screen to purchase.  what did I do wrong?

Also, it says that my available space on my ipad is now only 2.0 so it looks like it should have synced or downloaded - right?

  • Original ipad, playlist is reversed, how can I change it?

The playlist on my ipad it totally reversed from the playlist on itunes on my computer.  I would live to reverse it back.  How would I do this?

First try to just unsync the playlist and resync to device. via itunes.

  • IPad playlist sync

    Hi guys
I love the fact that you can create you own ipod playlists on the iPad but my problem is after spending so much time creating my playlist then if I need to sync with iTunes my playlist will be deleted after I sync. I have iTunes set for to manually sync and this happens every time. Is there a setting I dont know about or is this something I have to deal with?
    Thanks,
    Mario

  • Alphabetise playlist songs ipad?

I notice a question asked by a user on this site, which was very extensive and thoughtout. I have the same problem with my music. I also have a similar problem with sorting with any control with my photos. I have asked similar questions, trying to be as clear and forthcoming, by phone with tech support.
It is very nice that there are forums for people who are serious to ask these questions. But it seems that when it comes to these issues, APPLE has an attitude of just ignoring.
It isn't like these are super difficult problems, I can sort my photos on the Nexus 7 with no difficulty. And have not had any problems sorting music.
On certain issues, it is almost as if there is a patronizing attitude of "There, there - we hear you", but that is the end of it. These are small annoyances, but at some point they build up, leading to looking at different products from companys that are more responsive.

Thank you, I appreciate the response. Not having used this site before I guess I might have not had my focus sharpened appropriately.
I think part of my quiry is in the hope of era of "big brother is listening", someone at Apple Inc itself might take notice to what I know is an annoying problem for those of us who would like to control the sorting of our music and photos in even a rudimentary fashion. But actually, since the ip address is "apple.com", I thought i am speaking with Apple Inc in one fashion or another.
Let me rephrase; "is there any way within a iPad playlist I have created, to have the music sorted alphabetically when being viewed on said iPad?"
There does not appear to be any rhyme or reason. When I open a playlist, and look for a  particular selection, I have to go through each and every item from top to bottom. This can be up to 100 pieces of music. This has lead to a lot of bother doing re-Sync, just to find that the item was uploaded in the first place.
Again, thank you for any consideration. If this doesn't fall within the perview of this site, I apologize.

  • How do I turn off the playlists for my iPad?

For some reason even if my iPad isn't connected iTunes, it still wants me to add songs to Playlists for my iPod or iPad and this ****** me off because I don't put music on my iPad so sometimes my songs go to the iPad Playlist and not the iPod! So then I have to go back and put them on the iPod Playlist which is STUPID! How can I fix this? Please help me before my OCD breaks my iTunes haha

Either go into the Music app and tap the pause button at the top left, or double-click the home button to open the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, slide that bar to the right, and press the pause button there (and then press the home button to close the taskbar).
If you haven't already got a copy then you can download a copy of the iPad manual from here http://support.apple.com/manuals/#ipad

  • Two iPad/Match Playlist Issues

I am having a number of problems with Match, iTunes and my iPad.
For starters, I have iTunes and Match running on 3 computers (a Macbook Pro, a Macbook and a Mac Mini).  I also use Match with my music on an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2.
    My iPhone music is fine.
On my iPad, however, there are a couple of issues.
    1) Smart playlists, such as 100 Most Listened to Songs, and 50 Most Recent Purchases have thousands of songs in them, not the 100 or 50 that they should.  Those playlists are correct on all other computers and my iPhone
    2) Regular playlists have only a fraction of the songs that they should, and they appear to be changing the playlists on the other machines.  For example, a playlist that was created with 15 songs in it, and had 15 songs on all machines, only had 4 songs on the iPad (and this IS with All songs shown, taking into account they may or may not have been downloaded to the device).  And then, after I saw there were only 4 songs in the iPad playlist, I looked again at the other devices and those playlists were changed to only have 4 songs too.  The changes happened AFTER I looked at the playlists on the iPad.
All of my devices are running the latest versions on iTunes, OS 10 and iOS.
I know these are similar to some of the other Match/Playlist issues, but there are a few differences too.
    Any ideas?

For #1 - on your computer, right-click (or control-click) one of the songs that this is affecting, then choose "Get Info". Look on the "Info" tab. Is the "Part of a compilation" item checked? If it is, that will change how the song is categorized so it won't appear under the artist name. I've found that sometimes this is checked even on things like "Best of..." albums where the artist is always the same.
For #2, do the same thing, but this time look for any weird characters in the info - like maybe somehow a letter got entered into the "year" field, or you might see empty squares in the name field. Fix anything that looks odd, then sync again or update iTunes match, and see if you can open that artist on the ipad again.

  • Playlist as text

Just wanted to double check:  (because I have trouble believing)     There is no way to display an Ipad playlist as text?

    Hi there,
I'm confused. You want to export each Playlist as a text file? Or you want to export each individual album in your iTunes library as a separate text file?
For the former - converting a Playlist into a text file - you could do the following. If there is a faster more streamlined way, I don't know it.
    1. While viewing your playlist in iTunes, make sure only the columns you want in your text file are showing. (Remove columns by right-clicking on the header bar.)
    2. Select all songs (Command-A) then right-click and select "Copy."
    3. Open Notepad or, even better, Excel or some other spreadsheet software and Paste. The information is tab-delimited, so if you put it into a spreadsheet it automatically puts each item of information in its own column.
You could also just select all the songs in your library, sorted by album, then Copy and Paste into a spreadsheet. Then you could sort the spreadsheet according to album name or whatever and get rid of columns (song name, genre, etc) as you see fit. And, although I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, I'm sure there's some third-party software that will convert your playlists to text or spreadsheets or whatever. Hope this helps...
