IPad receives mail just fine, but cannot send mail

I am using a POP3 server with shaw (the server for both incoming and outgoing mail is shawmail.vc.shawcable.net) and, as stated in the title, my iPad will not send any mail. It refuses to interact with the SMTP server. It says "Cannot Send Mail    The connection to the outgoing server "shawmail.vc.shawcable.net" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts Calendars."
I have already tried everything that I have found already suggested on these forums and others, including inputting both a username and password for the SMTP server, changing the port to 25, and restarting my iPad after each of these changes. All of the settings on the iPad match those on my mail program perfectly (which works without a hitch, and has been for some time now.) I am connected by Wi-Fi to my home network, the exact same router I use to get my mail on my personal computer.
One other detail: whenever I change the settings for the SMTP server in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, it says that the SMTP server does not support password verification, which is just plain untrue. What is wrong with my iPad?

What did your email provider, Shaw, say or suggest about settings needed for the iPad?

Hi Just wanted to find out how to send email? can receive just fine but cant send. Using hotmail at the moment.
      Any help would be great
    Thanks

go to your mail providers setup guide and compare every single setting to how your smtp setup in your settings are set
and if they are not the same change yours to match their page
and if they are the same contact your isp to inquire as to why they are blocking the ports your mail provider are using

  • HT201412 I have followed all instructions to set up email and i am receiving fine but cannot send

I followed all instructions to set up email and I am receiving fine but cannot send keep getting message stating username or password incorrect?

The sending of email is handled by the SMTP server. Go into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Go to the account in question and check the SMTP server settings. In some places in the mail app, it says the username and password are optional. In actuality, it really isn't. If you cannot modify the settings and get it to work, then delete the account entirely and set it back up again, making sure to get the username and password correct in all areas.

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • I can receive mail on my bellsouth account on my iPad, but cannot send mail

Why is it I can receive email, but cannot send? My account is with Bellsouth.net

Hello, sounds like you haven't switched to iCloud yet, the old dot Mac & MobileMe servers are going away or gone for most already.
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

    4. Double click on the "Optional Installs.mpkg."
    5. Click on (Continue) in Introduction.
    6. Click on (Continue) in Software License Agreement.
    7. Click on (Agree) to agree to the terms of the software license agreement.
    8. Click on the disclosure arrow ▶ next to Applications.
    9. Select (✓) Mail.
    10. Click (Continue).
    11. After Mail has been reinstalled, download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1, for Snow Leopard or Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Updatefor Leopard to bring Mail up to the most recent version.

  • Able to receive mail in but cannot send mail out

Have followed all instructions setting up Orange mail and entered details for both incoming and outgoing servers.
Mail comes  in OK but when I reply or write a new email I receive a message:
" A copy has been placed in your outbox. The recipient xxxxxxx was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying"
xxxxx is the mail addres I want to send to, however it's all email addresses I want to send to, not just one specific address.
How can I overcome this please?

So into Setting for the email account on your iPad.  Go to advanced settings and make sure SSL is on.  See if that works. Some accounts may have off.  This works in hotmail which is a POP3 account.

  • Receive mail but cannot send mail. Any ideas?

I have iPad2, email set up to receive and send mail. pop...for receive and smtp... for send. port 110. I can receive but not send. Can anyone help?

Check with your email service and find out which ports can be used with their SMTP and then try that port.

  • N8: can receive mail (IMAP), but cannot send mail ...

    LS
Bought a new N8 yesterday. Configured the email (XS4All.nl) using the secure settings provided by the ISP.
IMAP works just fine, however SMTPS does not; it is impossible to send emails.
N8 was updated first to latest firmware version.
Within the outgoing mail settings the SMTPS mailserver requires SSL on port 465; however after putting in manually 465 as portnumber, closing the application, and opening the application again, going to the outgoing mailsettings, the port says "standard" again . In other words the manual input of portnumber 465 does not seem to be saved by the system.
This could be the reason for not being able to send mail, as the standard port will not work.
How can I be certain that manually typed settings are saved by the system (and be able to check that), as in this case the system seems to revert to its standard settings automatically?
My previous Nokia 5800 had no issues at all with the account settings of the same emailbox and worked flawlessly.
Thank you for your attention (and hopefully fedback on how to solve this issue).
    Kind regards,

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Removal of email box, re-start of device, configuring "new" email box did not solve the issue.
All outgoing messages stay in the Outbox......
Anyone....notably someone from NOKIA (afterall it is their product.....),
    regards,

  • I have incoming mail on BT but cannot send anything out.  What do I do?

I have had problems with my BT account.  First of all, everything in my mailbox on my iPad , all files, disappeared last night. I deleted the BT account then reinstalled it and seemingly have sorted my problem.   Today I find I can receive but not   send on my iMac.  I did what I did for the iPad - deleted the account then reinstalled, but it is not working for me with the iMac - I am being told there is a problem with my SMTP.  It all seems fine, passwords OK, SSL boxes ticked.  I have BT internet, Yahoo, Gmail and iCloud on both machines.   Nothing from any of these accounts is currently being sent.  Can anybody help please?  B Brigden

Chances are it's a corrupt mail account preference. In Mail - Preferences - select the account- and re-enter all the preferences for that account even if they appear to be OK.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.
