Ipad refuses to 'see' my printer

I am not at all sure where my problem stems from. My ipad cannot 'see' my printer (and nor can my iphone), but I downloaded the HP printer App and that can find it no problem at all. My Airport Extreme appears to be set up and working properly so I'm a bit lost. Any suggestions??

Hi Barbara, welcome to the Apple Discussions and Happy New Year.
What HP printer model do you have? How are you trying to print, via AirPrint or through the router?
If AirPrint, the AirPrint enabled printers are here:

  • HT4356 My iPad does not see my printer on the network.  The printer says it is connected and I can ping it from my pc, but the iPad does not seem to be able to find it.  I am going though an AOL supplied router, I have read this can cause issues, is this

I am trying to print from my iPad to a HP 3520 printer using AirPrint. I have connected the printer to my local wireless network and it confirms it is connected. However my iPad can not find the printer on the network when it searches for it.  I am using an AOL supplied router and have read reports that this can cause problems.  Is this the case? How do I resolve this issue?

    Hi,
That indeed can be caused by a router as Apple's AirPrint uses Bonjour to communicate with the device.
Bonjour Services relies on IP Multicasting which have to be supported by your network.
To isolate the problem, please follow the steps below to enable Wireless Direct and directly connect the iPad to your printer (which means without using the router).
Once the iPad connected to the Wireless Direct network try printing and check for any difference.
If the printer can be found via the temporary connection but not through your router that indicates lack of Multicast support or wrong configuration of your router.
In such a case be sure to contact AOL and check if the router support Multicasting, if so ensure it is enabled within your router configuration, as well ensure it have the latest firmware installed..

  • Photoshop refuses to see any printer

I am getting the following dialoge box when trying to print in PSCS4 to my Epson 3800, Vista 64. This is a new problem.
"Before you can perform printer-related tasks such a s page setup or printing a document, you need to install a printer."
I have installed and reinstalled the Epson twice now, I have tried printing to PDF as well as the generic Windows printer driver. PS is updated. I can print from Illustrator and Acrobat, as well as Office, ect. The problem is only PS.
I have Vista 64 and PS 64 on a laptop and I can print to the Epson just fine. What is going on with my tower?
update: even more curious is that I can create a new document and PS DOES see the printer just fine. Any other docs gives me the error.

Problem persists. ALL files that are older on this computer, jpeg or psd have this behavior. Taking one of these "old" files and renaming and resaving does not work. HOWEVER, I make a new file, or open a file I have never opened before (like a photo from my archive) does not exhibit this behavior. It it 100% consistent, that ANY Photoshop file or any derivitave of that file, PS4 will not see any printer. New creations have no problem. It is almost as if *every* work done in the last few months is somehow corrupted. I can print new files only. This is very odd behavior. Two computers, exact OS, same printer, one has problems with any old PS4 file, the other is fine.Other longtime graphics people in the office are also confounded by this issue. I simply cannot print PS4 files (PS, jpeg, resaved as tiff, pdf, whatever) created before last weekend. I can take them onto the laptop and they are fine. On the tower, I still get the first message that I don't have a printer installed.
I would rather not have to go through a full reinstall of Creative Suite. I don't have the disks handy (working way out of town) and this would really be a PITA. Right now, all my old files have to be handed to another person on a flash drive and printed. What on earth is wrong?

  • HT3500 I was using my wifi printer and now it doesn't print from my iPad but prints from my desktop.  The iPad doesn't see the printer though its on the  network it's a brother printer

Can you tell me what I need to do?

If the problem persists after you reboot as suggested by Ralph:
Trouble connecting usually means interference, or another WiFi on the same channel.
If you have any cordless phones, keyboards, or cameras, check what frequency they use.
From a MAC or Windows machine you can see what channel each of the available networks are using.  Make sure your network is on a channel nobody else nearby is also using.

    OK great info!
I found 2 possible ethernet to USB adapters:
By "Plugable":  USB 2.0 to ethernet LAN wired network adapter - seems this will work, but I'll contact Plugable.
    2. Apple USB Ethernet Adapter
Easily connect your MacBook Air computer to an Ethernet network with the Apple USB Ethernet Adapter. Small and light, it connects to the USB 2.0 port of your MacBook Air and provides an RJ-45 connector that supports 10/100BASE-T performance.  BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WILL WORK ON ANYTHING BUT a MacBook Air…
    One person commented:
This little gem used to be the device of choice for adding a second Ethernet interface to a Mac Mini Server and I'd been using one that way for about a year. After doing a software update to 10.6.6 it stopped working. Forewarned is forearmed – it appears that Apple is finally enforcing the MacBook Air system requirement.
    Thanks for any additional comments.

try disabling email scanning for incoming mail.
One of the last things that occurs is the mail server and Thunderbird sign off on "where we are up to" and Thunderbird stores this state information in the popstate.dat file in your profile (there is one in each POP mail account folder). If the anti virus, or you for that matter, end the conversation a few seconds early that hand off does not occur and the popstate is not stored.

I can see my printer and iPad on router but iPad cannot connect to printer. Printer is on list of air printer models accepted. Help!

You may have to visit the printer manufacturer's web site and look into their support pages to get a print driver for your Mac, and install it. Or see if you can see if a driver may already be in your Mac by checking settings, since there are many drivers already installed in Mac OS X.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipad can not see my wifi printer

my ipad can not see my wifi printer ????????

Is it an AirPrint enabled printer ? The supported models are listed on this page, and there is also a bit of troubleshooting at the bottom : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356
If it's not an AirPrint model, then some manufacturers have their own apps in the iTunes app store, and there are also third-party apps such as Print Central For iPad and Print n Share which might work with it.

  • New router, Qwest PK5000, iPad does't see printer

I recently bought the hp photosmart 310a printer so I could print from my iPad.  It worked great until a couple of weeks ago when my router died. The new router is Qwest PK5000.  My desktop and laptop see the printer and print fine, but my iPad can't find it.  It is online just fine, but doesn't,t see the printer.  I called Qwest and they said since the iPad was online it wasn't their problem, it was something with the printer.  Big help!  I am not technical at all and don't know what to do now.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated!

This is a problem with your router. See the thread below and the other threads listed in the "More Like This" box on this thread page:

  • My iPad 2 cannot find my printer!

I have a wireless HP printer that is set up on 4 other devices with wireless capabilities. Unfortunately, I keep getting the message that there is no AirPlay. Basically, the iPad won't recognize my printer so I can't print.

You say that you have 4 other devices that can see the printer but you don't specify that the 4 devices are iOS devices.
If you do not have an HP printer on the list on this site ... Then you will need a third party app to print.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Apps like Print 'n Share, Print Central, Print Magic (?) and others are available in the app store.
If they are iOS devices and the printer works with those, try restarting the printer and see if the iPad can find it then. Maybe the printer needs a firmware update as well. You can also try restarting the iPad.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
