IPad Restore Error 1600, 1601.

Hi, receiving errors 1600, 1601 when restoring iPad1 despite using latest iTunes, OSX and troubleshooting USB connections and ports. Any ideas people? Thanks!

I just experienced the same errors on a restore, tried multiple times.  Someone came up with the suggestion to try it on another machine.  I loaded iTunes on an older PC, attached my iPad and it started and finished in short order the restore.  I moved the restore file from the original pc to the older one in the same location as it was on the unit that gave me the errors.  Then when it worked, it attached to the original machine and synced my apps back that were in that iTunes version.

    Error 1604
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • IPhone 3GS won't restore (error 1600 or "not eligible for this build") no apple logo, recognised in DFU mode.

My iPhone 3GS decided to turn itself off (on 30% battery) yesterday and hasn't turned on since. After some testing (hard resets, DFU mode), tiny umbrella recognises it in DFU mode, as does Redsn0w. neither devices can successfully kick the phone out of the restore loop.
The screen stays blank throughout, no apple logo, connect to itunes logo etc. however every now and then the charging sign will appear (empty battery with a little bit filled (red)). even if i unplug it from my iMac the charging symbol stays there.
once I get the phone in DFU mode iTunes recognises that there is a phone connected that needs to be restored, it doesn't matter if I click restore or option + restore the process will fail on Error 1600 or "this device is not eligible for this build".
My iPhone is not unlocked or jailbroken. Before the incident with the coffee I managed to synchronize and update its firmware as indicated by iTunes. The latest update for my iPhone was iOS 5 firmware.  My intent is not to unlock or jailbrake the device, just to make it work again.
Here are some things I've tried since:
    1. Exiting recovery mode via Tinyumbrella
    2. Entering DFU mode via Redsn0w
    3. Shift + Restore and using firmwares from 5.0 to 5.0.1 to upgrade my iPhone.
    4. Remove hosts to my Host file (in relation to the "device not eligible for this build" issue)
    5. Try redsn0w and use IPSW to see if it is recognized by iTunes (iTunes recognizes the iPhone but then at the very last minute shows error 1600.
    6. Save SHSH files and use Tinyumbrella to uploaded them to my iPhone.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me on this. I might be doing something wrong or maybe not even considering the right steps to solve this issue. I don't know if there are missing drivers that are preventing the device from communicating with iTunes properly. Of some tool that can be used to correct this problem. It may or may not be fixable but I think it is worth the try.
    Thanks very much.

please ignore the comment about coffee. Someone posted a very similar question apart from he spilt coffee on his phone, I didn't.

  • IPad Restoring Error

My brother forgot his iPad password and got it wrong until the iPad showed:"iPad is disabled, connect to iTunes". So I connected the iPad to iTunes, and I restored it. But when it finished processing data, it suddenly displayed the error sign. This already appeared more than once when I was restoring the iPad, and I had to shut it down and turn it on many times. And now it can't restore. Well, it has finished restoring but then error again. Can anyone tell me what should I do? It's really frustrating.

To help you we/you need to know the specific error.  The common errors and their resolution are listed here:

iPad not powering up when restore comes up error 1600

    See here
Plug your device into a USB that you have not used before and see if it tries to install the drivers for it automatically.  If it doesn't or you dont have a usb that you have not used before then see here on how to proceed.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694
It relates to either a faulty connection or more likely a usb port not behaving correctly.
Try a different USB port - test the cable itself by plugging in and seeing if its charging.
Open itunes - put your device into restore mode and then connect via cable and a different usb port.

  • Ipad restore error 4014

everything was running well then all of a sudden screen pixeled and now the ipad is dead? help!
now no power and in restore mode, I was given error 4014 - could not restore

I Have the same problem. I also have the iPad 4 wifi & cellular 32gb. Owned it from new since November 2012. Tried everything possible but still nothing. I have spoke to apple via chat & on the phone & they advise me that this will need to be booked in for a service at my cost as its out of warranty! I don't think so...
Guys..what you don't get told is that the one year warranty you get with apple, also applies for 6 years after purchase ( 5 years in scotland) consumers in the U.K. have the right to ask the retailer to fix, replace any faulty item Purchased from them. I am visiting my local apple store on Saturday & have been told by Apple customer care to explain I want to : Exercise my rights to have my ipad serviced or replaced under the consumer law.
If it can't be fixed at apples cost then it's replaced. it's the law & simple. Don't pay anything else. Let apple sort this fault, it is there hardware that's at fault at the end of the day. Hope this helps. I shall upadte on Saturday evening of the outcome.

  • IPad restore error 2009.

My iPad (1) is refusing to restore after crashing.  I have updated all my software (Mac) and was running the latest iOS.  The error message I get is 2009.  I have looked this up, and reset the SMC.  Still not working.  Tried it on my iMac, same issue.  I am able to put the iPad into recovery mode.  iTunes see's the ipad, extracts the software, verify's the restore with apple, and then tries to prepare the iPad for the restore.  This is when I get the error 2009.  I am running Lion on my early 2010 Macbook Pro.  Any advice would be appreciated.

I just copy & paste the URL and it turns it into a link. http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694#error2009

  • IPad Restore Error

I recently purchased a new iPad from overseas and had my friend install applications on it via his itunes on his computer. It was working fine until my kids (2-3 years old) set a passcode while they were playing with it and I can no longer access to it. Of course those troublemakers haven't even learned to read and write but screw things up.
I searched online trying to solve the problem myself and found 2 solutions:
    1. Sync with the original itunes it had synced with to remove the passcode.
    2. Restore to its factory default via itunes
Problem with the first solution is my friend is on a trip and it will take a month till he returns.
Problem with the second solution is while trying to restore my iPad I got the following error "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes".
I tried to reset the ipad holding down the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously. Then tried to restore it again but got the same error.
    iTunes's version is 10.0.1.22
    iPad is the latest one.

My one is Ipad 2 Wi-Fi.

  • Ipad 2-Wifi cannot be restored or turned on, error 1600

About a week and a half ago, I was using my iPad 2 as normal. Later that day I went to use it and the screen would not come on. My device is about 2 months out of warranty. Apple doesn't seem to care about repairing it so I figured I'd turn to you guys. I took it to the store and attempted to get phone support. The apple "genius" just told me since it was out of warranty, I had no choice but to replace it for $250. The phone tech basically gave me the same run around. I know this thing is fixable. I have spent probably 10-15 hours researching the internet for answers.
So when I plug the device into the computer, iTunes detects it as being an iPad 2 and that it is in recovery mode. I have tried this on multiple computers both windows and mac. Previously the device was running 6.1.2, but since Apple feels they no longer need that, I have downloaded 6.1.3. I attempt to restore it, but it just gives me error 1600. Like I said, I've tried multiple computers, along with several different sets of cables, and usb ports. Please help!
