IPad Safari redirect problem

I've had my iPad for 3 days now and about an hour ago it started redirecting to www.theregister.com no matter where I am on the internet.  I could be on news.bbc.co.uk, click on a news item and suddenly I'll be redirected to www.theregister.com.  I could be on google.co.uk, do a search for 'iPad' and suddendly be redirected to www.theregister.com and so on.
I've not downloaded any new apps today and I've switched my iPad on and off, but no luck.
Has anyone had the same problem?  How did you fix it?

Did you try clearing cache? If not, try it.
If that fails, try a reset. Settings, General reset.

  • IPad 2 Safari Redirect Problem

    Hi everyone! I have an iPad2 and for the last few days I have noticed when I go to a website in safari I keep getting redirected to random ad sites. One of the most common ones is play.google.com/........... I tried clearing cache, history, cookies and that didn't do anything. I have restarted in every way possible, I have restored the iPad with a backup and also without but this problem won't go away!!!!! Can anyone help me out? I have no ideas left!! Any help would be greatly appreciated! This occurs on most websites with not much pattern. I have noticed though that certain websites anyways redirect to the same other websites... Thanks in advance for the help!!

    Hi Nayr0526,
    I can confirm being redirected to [https://]play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.spardeals.android when I enter failblog.org in the address bar.
    This behavior is new, I was able to browse that site without problems a couple of days ago.
    I didn't find any similar postings in other forums so I have no clue what the cause of that issue might be. It seems like a virus.
    I have an iPad3, running a jailbroken iOS 5.0.1
    Anyone having the same issue?
    @Nayr0526: Which other urls cause similar problems?
    Greetings,

    When opening PDF files in safari, if the size is too big, only what is viewable on iPad is shown. When scrolling down, it's all blank.
    The option to open it in iBook which should resolve this problem is also no longer available.
    I have done a reset but the problem is still there. Any solution?

  • Using Safari on iPad Links Redirect

    My ipad is fairly new, Dec 31. I didn't have any problems at first. I don't know if the problem is apps or internet. When I try to click on links in Safari, sometimes it redirects. Not every single time, but enough to be a big problem. I click on normal links like apple.com and it redirects to various websites. I came to the forum first, I read there was a problem on Snow Leopard/Mac same issue and there were some links provided that helped them, and should also help me, but I wanted to make sure I'm not the only one? The only apps I've gotten so far are free, which might be the problem, possibly malware or whatever kind of virus you would get after downloading. I believe the ipad/macs don't have viruses... sort of.... there could be some other issues: http://www.reedcorner.net/guides/macvirus/isitmalware.shtml - thanks Thomas A Reed for the link at this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12744200#12744200
    I called my internet provider. They said it was not them and for me to call apple support. I called apple support (transferred three times) the technician said they hadn't heard of it before, put me on hold, then we discussed the thread I mentioned earlier. The first thing he had me do was go to Settings, Safari, clear cache, clear cookies (history too?). Then go back to General, Reset, and reset all settings. Then I was told to hold the home and off buttons at the same time until the apple appeared (let go) and it restarts. Got off the phone and he emails me a link to backup and restore, did that. Then I checked and it still had redirects.
    I thought I'd remove apps, I deleted about half from my itunes, cleared cache etc and restarted, same redirect problems. So right now I'm debating on deleting the rest of my apps or changing the ip address, or simply calling apple back. I just tried two different link and it didn't redirect, but it did it last night, so it's not happening every time.

    I did the restore as new, had to send it to apple to be repaired. Went through all of that and was told there was no issue. I just got it back and it appears to not be redirecting at all, so that's good. BUT to my disappointed my $40 screen protector was removed! I called to complain, to no avail. Very sad I will have to get another screen protector. As of right now I have that thin plastic sheet that it came in to protect it. I have kids, of course I need a really good screen protector. Kind of sad, although they did tell me not to send any accesories with the ipad, I did not, except for the screen protector because I didn't want it wasted and didn't think it would keep them from doing their diagnotics and testings. Thank you apple I do like your customer service and it was fast and friendly, that was my only gripe. So happy to have it back!

  • BUG REPORT: iPad Safari glitch and Fedex' website problem? HELP!!!!

    Okay, I've discovered a weird bug and I don't know how to fix it, but you should definitely check this one out so you don't get the same problem...
    I recommend you DON'T try following this on your iPad, otherwise you'll also experience the error, and I haven't found a way to fix it yet.
    Process:
    On iPad Mail I received a message from Apple's store detailing my iPad hard case has shipped via Fedex. I tapped the tracking link inside to view the tracking information. Fedex' site launches in the iPad Safari app, the URL directs me to the usual shipping status page, but then a dialog box pops up saying www.fedex.com "Framework Not Found!" with an "OK" prompt button.
    Problem:
    The button cannot be tapped. The modal dialog box therefore refuses to disappear allowing access to any other part of the Safari app. In effect, Safari is now useless.
    I can launch different URLs from Mail and the page in the background updates, but none of the interfacial buttons, swiping with fingers or any other means of using Safari now works. What I need is a way to force-quit Safari.
    Anyone?

    Results of Google search on force quit ipad app:
    "Apps are software, too, and sometimes software gets stuck (just ask anyone who’s used a computer for more than a month). To make a cranky app shut down without having to restart the whole iPad, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button down until you see the red “power-off“ slider—but don’t slide this time. Instead, press and hold the Home button down until the app quits and you find yourself back on the Home screen. "

  • I want to downgrade from ios7 on my ipad mini-it seems to have affected certain websites which I now can't access due to 'redirect' problem

    I want to downgrade from ios7 on my ipad mini-it seems to have affected certain websites which I now can't access due to 'redirect' problem....

    Google is your friend. You have to move very quickly on this. It can't be discussed how to do it on this site and is not supported.

  • IPad safari reader option redirects to authentication page of the site.

    I used to read online magazine in ipad safari which is a paid site requires authentication.
    When i click Reader option in safari and back to normal page the site asks for authentication again. I have already saved the passwords in safari.
    Is there any workaround to get rid of this ?

    Yes it does Barry but only on some pages, check this page:
    http://www.team-insight.co.uk/georgie-blog/
    Tap them and you get an "accessible" simplified, large text version of the page. I want to use this for all pages but I can't figure out how.

  • Ipad Mini: Redirect to Twitter

    Hello,
    I seem to have a problem with my ipad mini. I recently just bought ipad mini a few weeks ago and I seem to be having this redirect problem in Safari and Google Chrome app. So far it seem to happen in only one website so far. It redirects to twitter homepage for some odd reason. I never had a problem like this before, it just happen today. Also I visited that site every day for years.
    I clear the browser cache, cookies, and history but it didn't solved the problem. The problem appear in my sis' ipad mini too. I check the site on my laptop and it works like usual. So i don't think its a website or internet issue. All I know it just happens in the ipad mini only.
    Any ideas on how to solved the problem?

    Thank you very much for the response but these suggestions cause me several problems.
         First, I don't know if itunes is instructing the update but I don't seem to have the power to cancel the update.
         Second, I don't know what "eject the ipad" means. (If it is related to itunes, I can't access the itunes store while the software download is running.)
         Third. this device is relatively new and I haven't installed any firewall so unless it came with one, it doesn't have one.
         Fourth. The device is accessing the web via wifi already.
         Fifth. I tried the reset approach and it suspended the download and itunes store and apps store are accessible again but when I restarted the download the indicator tells me that it is estimating time remaining but doesn't seem to be downloading. Curious.

  • IPad Safari IOS 5 window.close() closing wrong window

    When I want to close the child window(although now they open as tabs) in the parent window with javascript window.close(),the parent window was closed.
    Is this a bug or have any solution?
    Safari/7534.48.3
    My script:
    <script type="text/javascript">
      var subWin1 = null;
      function popSub() {
        subWin = window.open('myurl,'subWin1','height=200,width=200');
      function closeSub() {
        subWin.close();
    </script>

    I'm having the exact same problem.  On iPad Safari on iOS 5 attempting to close a popup window with close() is causing the parent window to close instead.  Every other browser, including iPhone Safari on iOS 5 it works fine.  I've been trying to come up with a workaround but haven't found anything yet.  If anyone can find a workaround please post.

  • Need to have iPad Safari browser support

    OK I know this is hard to do, but I have a site that is redering badly only on the iPad Safari Browser.  It works perfectly in all other browsers on all other platforms.  Any way to get this support?

    This is very difficult to do. To solve this problem would require one of the following, each of which has it's own set of problems.
    Run the content on emulators/simulators on our servers. Far from ideal since inevitably the emulators will be different from the actual browser on the device and our discussions with users indicate this is not acceptable.
    Actually host multiple iPads with custom software/hardware modifications to allow us to control them and capture screenshots to return to the BrowserLab client software. This is a very expensive solution for us since it would require constant replacement of expensive mobile devices.
    So, unfortunately, no. BrowserLab does not currently support testing on any mobile devices, sorry.

  • Mac Safari can't display ikea website properly but iPad Safari can

    Anyone noticed this? I was browsing Ikea website on my Mac mini today, and realize the color and buy online option for the furniture can't de displayed on the Mac Safari, but my iPad Safari can display these options without any problem. I thought it's the Mac Safari, so I switched to Firefox, still, no color and buy online options...

    This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
    The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account, or is system-wide. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
    While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Any application you run will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
    As Guest, launch Safari and test. Same problem(s)?
    After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

    Hi there and welcome to the User Forums!
    What you are looking for is a full-motion video recording.
    Captivate 2 has full-motion available, but the product is designed
    to use it for only brief periods - for capturing such things as
    grabbing a scroll elevator, or a drag-n-drop of a file object. It
    is definitely not designed for on-going, continuous video capture.
    If you upgrade to Captivate 3 you will find expanded full-motion
    capabilities.
    Other alternatives include the use of software designed
    specifically for creating AVI videos. One popular software package
    for this is Camtasia, but there are hundreds available out there -
    just "Google" for a string like "
    create video".
    Having said that, if you use Captivate as intended, the
    action you describe can be captured easily, and with amazing
    clarity and real-time appearance of your actual activity. This is
    not really the place to conduct a complete seminar on the product,
    but there are more than a half-dozen tutorials (created in
    Captivate) accessible on the main user interface (UI) - look in the
    right-hand column on that UI. The titles tell you what each
    contain. There is also a sample movie or two that was included with
    the install. You might find it helpful to open that and after
    looking at the timeline and other features, use the Preview feature
    to see what a Captivate movie looks like.
    After looking at some of those resources, come on back here,
    as you will probably have more specific questions we can help with.
    Best of luck to you.

  • Can i install iPAD Safari browser in Laptop.

    hi,
    What is the Safari browser version in iPAD and iPhone. Can we use this safari in laptop or iPAD safari and laptop safari is different?
    Vanji

    hi,
    I am facing one problem while accessing the www.supertracker.usda.gov site using iPAD iOS 6.0 and we are not facing this issue from laptop safari , mac safari, iPAD iOS 5.0 and iPhone iOS 5.0.
    Please follow below steps to reproduce :
    - Access the site www.supertracker.usda.gov
    - Click on the "Create Profile" link  from right side of the page and it will take you to the create profile page where you can create profile.
    - In here you will see one form and in that 4 field is "Physical Activity" , from that drop down box if you select "Base on Weekly Activities I enter", then you will get one alert message and it will not let you to select "Base on Weekly Acetivities I enter" and it will change to First option in the drop down list box.  It has to work in this way, but from iPAD  /  iPhone iOS 6.0 its not behaving like that, after selecting on "Base on Weekly Activities I enter" its not changing to first option.
    Can you please help me what the problem could be.
    Vanji
