Ipad/safari wont track browse history when private not selected. Fix?

Played around with Safari/ipad settings and deleted all browsing history.  Now it doesnt track website history at all even when private isnt manually selected.  Have I changed a default?  Want it to track History now and cant find an obvious fix!

  • Why do some pages (Facebook) in Safari 5.1 show up in History when Private Browsing is turned on in Lion??

Why do some pages (like Facebook) show up in my History when Private Browsing is turned on in Lion?

Agreed, going to Firefox is the step in the right privacy direction.

AdBlock Plus, BetterPrivacy, Ghostery, Click&Clean and yes even NoScript (drag a Temp allow all button to the toolbar)
To deny your computer from accessing Facebook
    In Admin user
    sudo pico /etc/hosts
Arrow down below the material you see there and don't change it
    add
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.com
    0.0.0.0 www.facebook.net
control x to exit and save.
another easier way (can use in Standard User this way) is to use the free TextWrangler and open file by name:
    /etc/hosts
    and perform the same thing.

  • I use Safari as my browser. When on a site and I click on a PDF file I get a black screen and a notice that "Adobe Reader blocked for this website". However, this does not happen if I use Firefox.

I use Safari as my browser. When on a site and I click on a PDF file I get a black screen and a notice that "Adobe Reader blocked for this website". However, this does not happen if I use Firefox.

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to print by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar may appear under the cursor. Click the printer icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens (command-V), then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others — I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 3 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.

  • Safari still creating website history with Private browsing on

Since downloading Lion I have noticed that despite having Private Browsing on Safari regulalry records a history of web sites visited. It doesn't do it all the time but I now have no confidence in this faciltiy. Has anyone else had the same problem?

This issue appears to be effecting Safari 5.1 in general, as I see this behavior both under Mac OS X 10.6.8 and OS X Lion 10.7. Still hoping to find a resolution, but I may suggest using "Report bugs to Apple..." under the Safari menu to ensure they are aware of this issue in the meantime.

  • Do App Tabs work if I automatically clear browsing history when I clost FF?

I have my privacy settings such that everything clears when I close FF. Do I have to keep my browsing history in order for App Tabs to work? Right now, they don't reappear when I start FF, but I'm not sure which box to uncheck on the "clear history" list.

Tap the two square on top right for Private Browsing.

  • Firefox 4 forgets all my APP TAB tabs when configured to automatically clear browsing history when Firefox closes? Not much of a feature!

    When I configure
Options>Privacy>History -> Clear history when Firefox closes -> When I quit Firefox, it should automatically clear all: -> Browsing History
all of my App Tab tabs are cleared, as well. Do I have to give up my privacy in order to use the App Tab feature?

You can try to select only one setting at the time in [[Clear Recent History]] to see which one is causing the crash.

  • After upgrading to Firefox 3.6.11, the browser does not see my previous browsing history, and does not save new history. places.sqlite is still in place. Is there a way to fix this without erasing previous history?

Bookmarks are still being updated and saved. Recently closed tabs, Recently closed windows are being recorded as they should. I have a single .json file on my profile directory, search.json. I don't know if there should be another one for the browsing history. It looks like some index file for the history database was lost or corrupted, or re-created as an empty file. places.sqlite-journal has zero bytes; places.sqlite-stmtjrnl has 37 kbytes, date 2008-07-15.

I kept trying to solve this problem, and after a few unsuccessful attempts, the only thing which worked was uninstalling Firefox (keeping all my customizations) and then reinstalling Firefox 3.6.10 (which is apparently no longer available at mozilla.org, but which I could easily find at filehippo.com). The unsuccessful attempts I made were: (1) Install Firefox 4 beta; (2) uninstall Firefox 4 beta, Firefox 3.6.11 (in both uninstalls, keeping my customizations), and reinstall Firefox 3.6.11.
So right now I am stuck at Firefox 3.6.10, or I will loose access to my browsing history. If anyone at Mozilla.org is reading this, I would suggest taking a look at this issue to see if it can be reproduced and fixed. I am running Windows XP (fully updated), Brazilian Portuguese version.

  • How do I restore old history even after not selecting the restore

I did not get a chance to select the restore feature and firefox exited with a lot of import tabs and links up. Then, it just restored an instance with one tab, instead of the many tabs with important info. I see there is a book mark history, is there a session history for previously used tabs and their urls? Unfortunately, I had just before that, selected, to close history when firefox exits and when it crashed, it cleared that history.

There still may be hope. Find your Firefox profile and look for a file called sessionstore.bak. This is a backup file of your sessions.
Delete the sessionstore.js file then rename sessionstore.bak to sessionstore.js. Then open Firefox. Make sure Firefox is closed during all these steps.

  • Safari only opens browser window when holding shift down at launch

I find this a bit odd.
I was having Safari (v3.2.1) problems in that it was hanging only a few seconds after launch and followed the advice I read on a couple of threads to launch Safari holding down the shift key.
I'm not sure if it was that or re-installing Safari or resetting it or deleting preferences or caches because by the time it had started working again I had done all of the above so many times I had lost count. That said, re-installing Safari on its own might not have worked but carrying out all the other procedures afterwards seems to have done something.
Anyway, I'm now left with this weird issue that when I launch Safari I don't get a window. I can't get one by choosing 'New Window' from the 'File' menu either. But if I hold down 'shift' when I launch Safari it seems to work OK. So, I can get it to work but it is far from ideal. Any suggestions, please?

    Hi HS,
    Thanks for that.
I've had so many problems with Safari over the last 24 hours or so that I have carried out all the procedures I have found on here - including the one you suggest) numerous times. Of course, I forgot that when I delete the preferences, this setting reverts to its default state, i.e. on. Hence it was on when I checked. I've deselected it now and it seems to be working. I'm not being too optimistic, though, as I have been at this point before and it has all gone terribly wrong again in a very short time - back to Safari hanging after a few seconds.
For now, everything is working OK but I feel like I'm walking on egg shells. I'm actually posting this in Firefox.

  • When the about:config setting for swipe are changed to allow changing tabs with swipe it does not repond and performs the default back and forward in browsing history action on the selected window instead of switching tabs. How do I get it to work?

In about:config, the values I changed to for the preference name browser.gesture.swipe.left was Browser:PrevTab and for browser.gesture.swipe.right was Browser:NextTab.
I have the latest synaptics touch pad on my laptop and it supports three touch swipe on windows pcs and on firefox. The about:config setting seem to be specific for MACs and so does not responds to windows changes.

  • IPad safari wont connect

My iPad is 5months old and has worked perfectly - now all of a sudden it won't connect to the internet or "talk" to my iMac.  Any ideas before I have to consider whether there is an actual fault with the iPad.
    Thanks

if it don't want to talk with both itunes and iphoto
and you have tried another usb port and usb cable
then I would try connecting it with another computer if that also did not detect it
I would say the connector in the ipad was damaged

  • I can no longer see any of my browsing history and did not choose to have it that way

Sounds like a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

I'm not sure what the effect of deleting places.sqlite in Firefox 3.0.19 will be. So be sure to export (backup) your bookmarks (and check the file content to be sure) before trying anything.
