Ipad says connected to WiFi but it isn't

     Hello, I’m trying to fix my parent’s Ipad. It says that I'm currently connected to the Wi-Fi but from what I can gather I’m clearly not. An example of this problem would be such as updating/downloading an app. For one thing App store won’t load, and the only way around this problem is by turning off the Ipad and turning back on. Another example would be when I use an app it would load such as YouTube will load but the videos won’t load.
     I’ve rested the router, turned on and off the Wi-Fi, reconnected, full restore, connecting to other internets, and checked updates. I have a feeling it’s the Ipad due that both our laptops, an HP and Toshiba, aren’t having this problem, also my mom has an Iphone which has never had this problem either, I myself also have an Ipod touch which doesn’t suffer from this problem, and if matters my Xbox and tower which I’m using Wi-Fi for right now doesn’t also suffer this issue.
So summary of the line:
Ipad unable to connect to Wi-Fi but shows it is
I’ve done a full restore, back up, router reset, tried reconnecting, connecting to other Wi-Fi’s, and checked for updates
Only solution to this is turning the Ipad on and off which getting very annoying, must be another way
All other Wi-Fi devices aren’t suffering from this problem
A quick response would be nice and any help would be great,
Cheers all have a good Christmas and or Holidays for people who don’t celebrate it

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

    You've connected the iPad via cable to your computer, and your computer's iTunes is up-to-date ? If it's icon isn't showing then try one of these troubleshooting pages :
    PC : iPhone, iPad, or iPod not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    Mac : If you don't see your connected device in iTunes for Mac - Apple Support
    If the iPad is disabled then you'll need to reset the iPad back to factory defaults, after which you can restore to your backup

  • My ipad is connected to wifi, but wont access any websites.  Help.

    My iPad says it is connected to WiFi, but it won't access any websites.

    Try a Restart.
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    Resetting your settings
    You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
    Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
    Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
    Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • My ipad wont connect to wifi but my phone will. do have any suggestions on helping my ipad connect?

    my ipad mini with ios 7.1? wont connect to wifi but my phone will,any suggestions on how to make my ipad connect to the wifi?

  • IPad shows it it is connected to WiFi but it isn't (nothing will load)

    Just accidentally updated my iPad to iOS 7.1.1. Started it up and tried to connect to WiFi. Correct password and the WiFi is working for all different devices, and the iPad appears to connect to it successfully. The icon is there and everything. It's found the IP Address, Router, etc. etc.
    However, absolutely nothing will load (not Safari, App Store, anything). It's not a problem with WiFi - all three of my computers and my phone can connect to this WiFi, it's just my newly updated iPad.
    There are no addons and no this and that. I restored factory settings. No backups or anything.
    I have:
    1) Restarted my router,
    2) Restarted my iPad,
    3) Dropped my iPad into Recovery Mode and restored it to factory settings and tried again,
    4) Dropped my iPad into DFU Mode and restored it to factory settings and tried again,
    5) Turned off my iPad and tried again,
    6) Turned off my WiFi and tried again,
    7) Reset Network Settings and tried again,
    8) Turned off HTTP Proxy and tried again,
    9) Forgotten the Network and tried again.
    So if one of your solutions is one of the nine above, please don't bother answering me.
    Thank you,
    XymphosCraK

    Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
    Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
    You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • IPhone 4 says connected to wifi but shows 3g connection.  I've tried turning off 3g - that does enable the wifi logo, but then when I try to connect to something it changes to 2g.  Tried resetting network connection in general setting.

    I've tried everything.... I see this problem all over the web, but no one seems to have an answer... so I know it's not just me.  Laptops and other wireless devices connecting fine, just iPhone 4 has problem.

    When you say you have tried "everyihing" that doesn't provide enough information to help you, as one person's "everything" is quite different from another person's "everything". In the absence of knowing what you have tried, the following are the most common causes of this problem.
    Turning off 3G will just switch you to EDGE. You can turn off Cellular Data, but that won't make it connect to WiFi if your WiFi isn't working, it will just eliminate all data access to your phone.
    Easiest to try answer if it is only your home WiFi, and it works other places:  Reboot your router.
    Next, update the firmware in your router.
    If it doesn't work with any WiFi anywhere first Reset Network settings. If that doesn't fix it, restore the phone using iTunes.
    You didn't say what symptoms you got, or when you were trying to use WiFi. You do know that the iPhone turns off WiFi when the phone is on standby to preserve battery, right? So if it only fails to connect to WiFi when you are not actively using it that is normal.

  • IMessage on my iPad doesn't work when my ipad is connected to wifi but  it does work when it's connected to my phones portable hotspot using 3G. How can I make it work so it does work via my wifi?

    Recently my iMessage has stopped working I don't know for what reason but when I'm connected to my home wifi I cannot sent messages as not delivered pops up in red with an exclamation mark. Other apps like Snapchat cannot be used however it does seem to work when I turn my phone into a portable hotspot using 3G and connect my iPad to it. Regarding my internet browser still works ( safari, chrome, google).How can I fix this problem so I can connect my iPad to my home wifi and having iMessage still work?

  • IPad 2 connects to wifi but new iPad 4 will not.

    I just purchased an iPad 4 and set it up home and everything works fine including the wifi connection at there.  I brought it into work today and it will not connect to my wifi (small business and using a  basic Cisco router).  It recognizes the router and when credentials are put in, it doesn't connect nor does it say anything else.  To check the issue, I had my iPad 2 with me and it connects just fine as well as my iPhone 5.  Any thoughts?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

    Hi: Had this phone three weeks (first smartphone). The last several days, I go to browser and get "web page not available" or to Voice Search and get "Connection problem," but wifi settings show I'm connected to (home) wifi and signal strength=excellent. The 3G/4G icon is not displayed. FWIW, settings show that phone is scanning networks every couple seconds. Maybe this is normal?
    Anyway, I must "turn off" wifi on phone, then turn on again in order to connect. For first 2 weeks the phone switched seamlessly between my home wifi and 3G when I got out of range. Now it seems to be "dropping" wifi even when it's right next to router. Any ideas how to fix?
    TIA

  • My ipad says connect to iTunes but when I do nothing happens, this after it failed to restore.

    I installed multitouch on my iPad 2 before it was generally avaliable. Ever since thin I have been unable to update the software. I'd get  a "device is isn't eligible for the requested rebuild" error. I just bought "New iPad" last night, so I need to update the current one so that I can get my new one set up. I started folowing instructions in this forum to deal with the error. I opened xCode and tried to restore from there. But I got the same error... only now my iPad is wiped clean and it's showing the "connect to iTunes" image it showed when I first set it up.
    BUT when I connect it to iTunes nothing happens! Same deal with xCode.
    I can see my apps are still backed up in iTunes compleated a backup before this all started... but how do I get iTunes to "see" the ipad now?
    I'm on a Macintosh with the newest version of iTunes and OS 10.6.8

    So, I have managed to get my iPad to stop showing the "connect to iTunes" screen. I did this by plugging it in to my husband's PC and trying to restore from the backup I left there many many months ago.
    The restore FAILED error 3194 (I looked it up it's the same error as the one I got on my macintosh "device is isn't eligible for the requested rebuild"
    But the restore attempt mad the "connect to iTunes" screen go away, now it has 4.3.1 again with the special multitouch update.
    BUT I STILL CAN'T RESTORE! Why not? I've been searching all over the web and I can find nothing that helps.
    It's not like I jailbroke it... can anyone help me please?
