Ipad says I have not backed up and will not let me go to my settings

My ipad says I have not backed up and will not let me go any further.  What do I need to do?

Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears on the screen, then let go of the buttons.
