I was using my iPad 2 this morning and it suddenly came up with the error "iPhone cannot make or receie calls". Please note this is an iPad2 NOT an iPhone. After this I cannot use the 3G data conection everything else is fine. Whats gone wrong?

Strange indeed.
To fix the 3G issue try the following:
Turn on airplane mode for about 10 seconds then back off.
Power off iPad then back on.
Reset network settings.

Same problem I'm having too. Still the same after several restore. I brought my 3GS in April and have send it to apple service center in Hong Kong twice. A replacement iphone was given. But still it doesn't work. I'm holding a ChinaMobile SIM card from SUZHOU. The funny thing is I can use it normally when I'm over in Shanghai, China. But once I'm back in Suzhou ,China, I can't make call out. All other features work fine. Have swap SIM cards with other iPhone user and same problem exists. Any solutions?

Ok so I updated my phone to iOS 7.1.2 & it made me restore my phone. I lost everything except my photos in my photo stream & my contacts. I can receive & send text/iMessages. You must have a separate and individual id for each of your devices. For her iphone it's the telephone number. For each ipad, you must have a separate and individual id also. The ipad id's must be an e-mail address. You cannot use the same e-mail address for both i pads, and you can not use the email address that you use for Face time log in. The folks I know, create multiple e-mail accounts on Yahoo to facilitate this requirement. These individual phone numbers and e-mail addresses should be put into your calling lists for your Facetime accounts.
So if you want to call your wife's i-pad you need to have the mail address associated with it on your ipad account and visa-versa. I guess you guys will need to make sure you know who's carrying which device...This modern electronic world can be a circus at times, even though it has its rewards.

What your iPhone using friends label your phone number in their contacts is irrelevant. I don't know who you pay $9.99 a month to but it's not Apple. You can't disable text messaging on your iPad as it is not capable of SMS.
Do you still have the iPhone? If so, log out of iMessage on the iPhone.
Try this:
Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Log in if not already logged in.
Click on "Edit Products"
Click on the "X" to the right of the product.
Click "Unregister"
Also, try changing the password on your iTunes account.

To turn off iPhone cellular calls on your iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings > FaceTime and turn off iPhone Cellular Calls.

You can do this on the phone and the iPad. Settings>FaceTime>iPhone Cellular Calls>Off.

As peter says, this is evidence that your phone was previously hacked and was re-locked by the upgrade.
ONLY the carrier it is locked to can unlock it. There is nothing else we can suggest.

no what I meant was I have read through what information it gave me when I asked the question and other than checking my wifi or checking my iMessage is on or checking my number and email address was correct I didn't think that the information applied to my specific problem so that is why I asked the question? I asummed it would be something simple and silly that I am doing wrong. I have not spoken to any technicians, I am new to this site and you can probably tell I'm not that knowledgable with technology so I apologise if I have put you out, I don't feel your rudeness or your sarcasim towards me was necessary. Don't worry I will go into an apple shop and ask instead.

No it's not stealing. They have an allowance that you can share with so many computers/devices. You'll have to authorize her computer to play/use anything bought on your acct. You can do this under the Store menu at top when iTunes is open on her computer.
As far as getting it all on her computer....I think but I am not sure (because I don't use the feature) but I think if you turn on Home Sharing in iTunes it may copy the music to her computer. I don't know maybe it just streams it. If nothing else you can sign into your acct on her computer and download it all to her computer from the cloud. Not sure exactly how to go about that, I haven't had to do that yet. I wonder if once you authorize her computer and then set it up for automatic downloads (under Edit>Preferences>Store) if everything would download. Sorry I'm not much help on that.
