The autorotate on my IPad 2 suddenly quit working as well, I was able to get it to start working again by doing a complete shut down ( Holding down on the top power button then swiping off on the screen) Then just turning it back on. I have not seen the problem occur again.
My new iPad 2 had the same problem last night a few hours after I originally turned it on. Turning it off and on fixed it. Very odd that it occurred. I hope this isn't a common issue.

my ipad screen will no longer rotate.  How do I unlock this or do whatever needs to be done?

Have you got rotation lock on (is there a lock symbol at the top of the screen next to the battery indicator) ? If so, then depending on how you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set, it can either be turned off via the switch on the right-hand side of teh iPad, or via the taskbar (double-click the home button, slide the taskbar to the right, and it's the icon far left) - the function that isn't set via the switch is set via the taskbar instead. • IPhone 4 screen and keyboard wont rotate

My iPhone 4 screen won't rotate in Messages. The screen wont rotate and the keyboard doesn't rotate either. It works fine for my other apps but it just doesn't work in Messages. It used to work and then it stopped. I've tried double clicking on the menu key and checking if rotating function is unlocked and it is.
    How do I fix this?

It's not a problem with the gyroscope if it works in other apps. Try a simple reset. Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appears.

  • TS3992 Hello there, this message appears on my ipad screen and it wont allow me to operate the ipad "iCloud Backup requires a Wi-Fi connection to successfully back up to iCloud. Make sure your iOS device is able to connect to the Internet over Wi-Fi."

    Hello there,

Make sure your iOS device is able to connect to the internent over Wi-Fi."  Please any idea of what to do to get rid of this message from the screen.
    Thanks.

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

Did all these things mentioned in this article, even did a system reset including erase data and other settings. iOS is up to date, still the iPad 2 display is not rotating.
This happened first a couple of weeks before, then I did a reset and it worked. Then after 2-3 days it happened again, I updated the iOS and it worked after that. Next time it happened, I tried all possible methods, including switching to software - rotation lock on/off. The hardware when turns to off/on, shows the correct icon on the screen of the lock and unlocked state. But the rotation is not happening.

    Just check again.
If you see a lock icon in the upper right corner of the screen - then the screen orientation is locked.
Try the side switch above the volume rocker first and see if that unlocks the screen. If that doesn't do it, double tap the home button and swipe to the right and look for the lock icon all the way to the left.
If the screen is unlocked but still will not rotate, reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If the iPad screen still will not rotate - turn it over and gently tap it on the back a couple of times - but gently tap it. Make sure that the screen is protected.

  • My first gen ipad wont rotate. The side button is on mute, the lock switch is on mute, the task bar at the bottom is not locked and i reset the all setting. still wont rotate.

My first generation Ipad wont rotate. I checked the switch next to the volume, In General "use slideswitch" is on "mute" and the task bar at the bottom the lock "orientation" symbol in not engaged. i have also reset all setting. still wont roate. also games that require movement of the ipad dont work. Any thoughts anyone?

Well then the screen definitely isn't locked.
i wonder of you close all pas in the task bar if that would help. Maybe you have an app that is causing the screen to stay locked. Try that and as if that does any good.
Double tap the home buttons and hold down on any icon until they all wiggle. Then start closing them all by tapping the minus signs. Tap the home button when you are done. Restart the iPad and then try again.

  • Ipad will work when you hit home and then slide the unlock bar - then when you get to the homepage, nothing works - not the home button, it wont rotate, scroll, cant choose icons...nothing.  help!

Ipad will come on when you hit home and then slide the unlock bar works fine - then when you get to the home page where the icons are, nothing works - not the home button, it wont rotate, scroll, cant choose icons...nothing.  help!

The home button is the main button off the screen - where is the sleep button?  When I hit home I only see the lock slider (its black) and a button that has a flower on it that pulls up photos we took that are on the ipad.  Thanks for your help!

  • IPad's auto-rotation frequently stops working.

Hi there, my iPad's auto-rotation frequently stops working and the only way I can get the screen to rotate gain, is to reboot. It used to be once in while but now happens every day which is very frustrating. What can I do to stop this? Thanks, Siobhan

I know you already stated that you have to reboot, but make sure you're doing it this way. I've found some that do it differently and the results can be different.
Make Sure iOS is updated to the latest version
Reboot the device by pressing and holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (power) at the same time until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings

  • After ios 7 update on ipad mini, auto rotation stop working. Anyone facing this issue too?

After ios 7 update on ipad mini, auto rotation stop working. Anyone facing this issue too?

    for ipad,
    if you go to settings-General
You can select between using the side switch to lock rotation or mute.  If you select one mute, then the lock rotation icon will show up in the control center.  If you select lock rotation, then the mute will show up.  THe side switch is then used for the other option.

  • TS3274 My iPad screen won't rotate.. I have unlocked  at the volume button and on the multi task bar

Why has my iPad screen stopped rotating?  I have tried by using the mute button to unlock.  It says it is unlocked. But it won't rotate.

    1. Make sure the Side Switch is set to Lock Rotation: Settings>General>Use side switch to

    2. Now check the Side Switch to make sure it's in the unlock position

  • My iPad screen no longer rotates.

My iPad screen no longer rotates. When I toggle the switch on the upper right, it just indicates a ringer either on or off. When I check in settings, it shoes the screen rotation as 'muted'.  No luck turning it on or off either. Any ideas? Thanks!

Try double pressing the home button, then swiping to the right until you see the ipod controls. There should be an orientation button at the far left.

  • HT5858 my ipad screen won't rotate.  It is locked in the vertical position

Ipad screen is locked in position.  Won't rotate.

first go to settings>general, and look at the use of the side switch (if its for lock rotation just use the switch on the right side on top of the volume buttons- if not just go to the home screen slide your finger from bottom to top and you'll open a bar, and look at the lock with an arrow, if its high lighted turn it off.)

  • TS3274 iPad screen won't rotate

Ipad screen does not rotate and I can't figure out why. I havent change any settings....

thanks but it seems that none of your options is working. Before I was able to rotate the screen by just moving the iPad in one direction or another. Ans it seems I can't do that now no matter what my settings are - Mute or Lock rotation. I followed Diavonex link and it is suggested to restart the iPad if none of the options solve the issue. That's what I'll do.

  • IPad screen won't rotate.the locks are not on

iPad screen won't rotate. I checked to make sure it wasn't lock. Can anyone help please

    Hi,
There are three things you can do.
    1) Check the function of the side switch - in the Settings app, under General.
    2) Try a reset by holding the on/off and home buttons together until the Apple logo appears.
    3) If this fails, take it to an Apple Store.
Hope this helps and Happy Holidays!
