IPad Screen Issue..."Burnt In Bar"

Well, after owning & using my iPad since November, and LOVING IT, I have noticed - all of the sudden - a one-inch-wide bluish 'bar' that is VERY subtle on the left side of the screen, which runs the entire long length of the unit.
VERY disappointing, as I am sure you can appreciate.
I purchased the unit at Best-Buy, with an extended warranty, as there are no close Apple retail stores in my area.
A) Anyone else experience this issue?
II) Anything I can do about it?
3) Recommendations?
How do I back up my Kindle purchases? I do not see my (several) books anywhere.
THANKS!

As others have noted, it sounds like a hardware fault in the screen, and as long as it's not intermittent and there's no physical damage to the iPad, you shouldn't have any problem getting a replacement.
I do want to clear up something regarding your subject line, though, in case others see this post: you refer to "burn in," which is a term that was used in the days of CRT monitors to refer to an image that becomes permanent with time on a monitor because of heavy use. Some older Macs, for example, have a ghosted image of the Mac OS menu bar atop their CRT screen. Plasma TVs can also be affected.
I've seen some posts, especially in App Store reviews, that claim their iPad screen suffers from burn-in. This is not the case. LCD screens are practically incapable of burn-in, and certainly not within the timeframe that the iPad has been in existence. A hardware fault can cause similar symptoms, but they're unrelated to "burn-in," and they're certainly not caused by specific apps, as others elsewhere claim.
That is all. :^>

  • IPad screen issue, please help.

    Hello,
I got an iPad Air 2 brand new from Apple a little over a week ago.  I picked it up with one hand and noticed that the screen got a little pressure on it (you could see darker colors around the area I picked it up).  I don't know if this is a common issue or if I should take it in to be looked at.  I checked and it is only in one place on my screen, but is only on the right side of the screen near the bottom.  If no one responds I'll just call into Apple.  If you respond, thank you!
    Cheers,
    Adam

If you put excessive pressure on the screen it can do this. That is normal.

  • IPad screen issues

Hello, this is my first post.   I recently purchased a new iPad 2 32 GB and I'm having problems with my screen.  It has flashing horizontal lines that periodically appear down the center of the screen from top to bottom.  Is this a defect?  Has anyone else had this issue?  Any direction would be most appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Screen issues after Genius Bar repair

I had to have the ODD replaced in my 2010 27" iMac. The Genius Bar experience was, erm, an experience.
I got my iMac back today and, after turning it on, discovered what appear to be dead pixels on my screen. They definitely weren't there before I left the machine with them. From briefly looking around the web, it appears it may be (i.e. I hope it is) dust that's trapped behind the screen. Surely Apple have the equipment to allow them to prevent such occurances?
Should I demand they do the job properly, or am I expecting too much?
Had I ben told about this before hand, I might not have opted to have the ODD replaced (as I only did it because it's still under warranty).

It's just very frustrating as the Apple Store is not local, and the 27" iMac isn't the easiest thing to carry around.
The pixel anomalies weren't there before I took it in to have the ODD replaced. I expected that Apple, of all companies, would have done the best job possible. I hope it is just dust, and not newly dead pixels.
I'm sure Apple will do the right thing, but it's just such a pain to have to take it back to them again (it will be my third journey there in a week).
    Thanks for the responses.

  • HT4061 Black line on iPad screen

    Black line on iPad screen?

I have an Ipad 1 gen bought in 2010. Doing some research I think there is a connection between date bought and the screens. Thick striped, black white or colored but Apple are refusing to acknowledge. If I can get enough people I will take this further if I can! Please join me on Facebook @Apple Ipad screen issues Thanks!

  • Ipad screen has a massive grey bar through it??

I turned on my Ipad this morning, and it seemed to be working just fine, except that there was a thick, pixilated grey bar right through my screen. I tried restarting it several times, but nothing changed. I connected it to power and it didn't go away. I haven't tried connecting it to my computer yet, as my computer is broken at the moment (not my fault, I'm just really unlucky) but I'm pretty sure this is a hardware problem, so that wouldn't help anyway. I haven't dropped my ipad, put it in heat or humidity, got water on it, put it in extreme cold or treated my ipad roughly. It stays in a case safely on my desk whenever its not in use. I have only had it for just over two months, so I am very annoyed that it has broken after such a short time. Anyone have any advice?

Well mrdoozie, you're lucky. I bought an I pad in dec 2010 and had the same issue (grey, black bar about 2 inches thick just above of centre  across the screen with multicolored thin lines in some place inside the bar) develop about 20 days ago. I took it to the apple authorized service centre in mumbai, India and they said apple has not authorized anyone in India to open it and repair and given its a hardware issue  and warranty expired in december 2011 they can replace it for a cost of Rs 23,000 eq to $ 480!
I did not think it was worth it. First I did not expect apple to make hardware that could develop such kind of issues. And if it such a regular thing then they should repair or replace if it's not the fault of the user. .
So I took it back and decided I will buy a new galaxy tab instead. With samsung, don't have this kind of support issues in India.
I can't use this I pad because all the messages come in the centre and do not move up or down so get covered by he bar.
I should have realized this early when within 3 months my adapter got burnt. I ignored it. For those who may think it may be a voltage issue in my house, I charge my iPhone thro the same socket with the same chargers

    OK. I will work backwards.
You certainly don't want to have to delete apps every time that they need an update, for any number of reasons. Losing data first and foremost would be a drag, but the overall hassle would be absurd. All things being equal, you should be able to update apps in the future after you delete them and reinstall them. I delete and reinstall apps all the time and I am also able to update them when updates are available for the apps. I just wanted to know if you had any success in any fashion installing apps.
Resyncing/refreshing the Apple ID/iTunes account wouldn't seem to be the issue either if you can download apps or other content from the iStores. Your ID is being accepted.
That leaves us with I'm not sure what. But I think I would try this trick fix and see if it helps.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time>Set Automatically>Off. Set the date one year ahead. Try to update the apps again. If you get an error message, go back to the settings. Correct the date and time (set automatically) then go back and try to update the apps again.

  • I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe
most people will tell you to do both pram and smc resets (google) and if you still have issues, either clean install (easy) or troubleshoot (hard)

    Hi,
Connect the system to an external monitor and check if it displays correctly. If it does, probably your LCD panel/invertor/cable had gone faulty. If it comes out the same way on the external monitor, you're looking at motherboard repair/replacement.

  • Smart Cover leaves 3 bars on my iPad screen

    Hello,
My new Smart Cover is leaving 3 bars on my iPad screen. I tried cleaning it, it appears to wipe right off. What should I do?

The bars are from where the material of the cover touches the screen and any oil on it. This is normal. just keep your screen clean.
    Ok.

  • The only thing on my iPad 2 screen is the status bar

I was updating GarageBand clicked on another app and then the screen went completely black. When I pressed the wake button I open my iPad back up an then the screen was completely black. I tried to shut it down with the red slider but it wouldn't turn off. Now the screen is black and the only this on the screen is the status bar items. And when this happened it only had 10% left and they was yesterday! Now it doesn't turn off and the apps don't show up on the screen (it's still black with only the status bar) I can't get the red slider to appear and the screen won't rotate

You have to hold down on the sleep AND the home buttons until the Apple logo appears on the screen. this may not work, but it's worth a try. There other things to try if that doesn't help. You will probably need to restore via recovery mode.
Does iTunes recognize your iPad when connected to the PC?

  • Ipad screen stuck on Apple logo and empty progress bar.

    Hello,
My iPad screen is stuck on the Apple logo and empty progress bar. I have tried rebooting the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds but the screen doesn't change.
The problem arose after I tried to reset the sttings on the iPad after an app wouldn't open.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

1: Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
2: If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane.
3: If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try using the steps in this article to force the device into recovery mode.

Hello, in view of the fact that many users had screen discolouration issues and uneven backlight issues with the iPad 3rd Gen, I wonder if those issues have been sorted out. Has anyone here had any screen issues with the iPad mini, or the iPad 4th Gen?
