My iPad2 screen went black all of the sudden, and it took a number of times pressing home and on/off key to get it back on. How serious a problem is this?

Yesterday, I accidently turned my iPhone's brightness all the way down which caused the screen to go black. The phone is on because I can take screenshots and lock and unlock the lock screen. Also im getting notifications but cant see them. Ive tried everything from taking the battery out to calling Apple Customer Service, but the screen is still black. HELP!!?

Ipad Screen went black and wont turn on

My wife was using my Ipad this morning, I have had it for about 2 weeks got it as a Christmas present. She was on Facebook and the screen just went black. Hitting the home key or the power key to turn it back on and nothing happened.
Any thoughts?

Thinking that all of the apps displayed in that tray are open and running is a common misconception. In fact, what you are looking at is the Multitasking (MT) Tray, sometimes also referred to as the Recents Tray, and is an ordered list of those apps which were last opened. Obvious examples of those working would be a music app still playing, while common examples of not opened but displayed would be, well ...... with a few exceptions, pretty much everything else.
That said, it is a corrective action for a hung or crashing app as what you are describing is one of the two ways to Force Quit an application; by going through and deleting all of them you actually will also do this and might fix whatever the issue is. However, the app causing the problem is normally going to be at the very top of the apps displayed in the MT Tray.

Try resetting your iPad by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.

Have you tried a reset? Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time for up to 20 seconds. Hopefully the Silver Apple will display, which will mean the phone is resetting (no data will be lost). As soon as the Silver Apple appears, release the buttons, and wait until the Home screen comes back on.
You should be OK after that.

TS3274 I updated to ios7 on my ipad and the screen went black and willnot turn back on. I can hear Siri when I press the homebutton to activate that but I can't see any thing.

HT201263 iPad screen went black when fully charged and would not come out of sleep mode, turn on or off and did nothing when connected to USB port?

I really do not want to restore this iPad if I can find another solution. I had to let the battery drain completely in order to prepare it for restore, so I'm prepared to do that if I must.

Was having trouble with it shutting down. Now all I have is a black screen with the Apple in the middle, and it's making a "connection type" sound every few seconds.

My iphone 4, 8G white suddenly died after leaving in on the counter... I tried turning it back on by holding the lock button but, nothing happened. i tried hold the home button and lock button but, still nothing happens.. Try plugging it into its charger. If an empty battery with a charging symbol appears, you're good. Just let it charge for a few minutes.
If you were using your phone excessively and it is extremely hot, wait until it cools down then turn it on again.

Apparently there may be a correlation with updates post 6.0. Many Youtube posts od similar problem

In another thread, someone suggested you hold down both the on/off button and the home button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Then phone will automatically reboot. It worked for me. On caution...you need to hold those buttons down concurrently for a fairly long time--probably about 20-30 seconds. Don't give up on it early.
