IPad sees Mac Pro as WAP

My network here is one wireless access point (a Billion adsl router/modem), a Mac Pro on the desk connected via ethernet, and a couple of powerbooks, and an iPhone and an iPad connected wirelessly.
Everything wireless *except* the iPad is seeing my router/modem's real SSIP (wp-lan), and connects just fine. My iPad however doesn't see the router/modem, rather it displays my Mac Pro's network name as the only available network. Connecting to this falsely-named network gives the iPad normal network access.
If I change the network name of my Mac Pro, the iPad still sees the old name until I do a network reset and reboot of the iPad. After that, the Mac Pro's new name appears as the only wireless network available - and again the iPad connects fine to it.
The Mac Pro has no wireless hardware - somehow the iPad is detecting its name and using it as its WAP, going through the routermodem (which is what it appears to be really connecting to).
I have big problems with my iPad and Mac Pro seeing one another with wireless sync, and this might be related - otherwise it's just a curio. Any thoughts?

Can i use my mac pro as an itunes server just by having itunes open and leaving the machine running?
Yes. You have to set it up, of course.
Understanding Home Sharing
To do this do i need to be running Lion server?
No.
Will the machine sleep when nothing is being accessed?
Not sure. You don't really want a server to sleep.

  • Syncing mail on iPad, iphone, & mac Pro using Cloud

I use mail app on my Mac Pro to view my gmail account, now with iCloud how do I sync my mail on my mac pro, iPhone, & iPad so they are all updated as one account.  Currently I my mail on my iPhone and iPad update with each, but my mail on my Mac Pro does not.  I thought when I updated to Lion I would be able to use iCloud to solve this problem, but it has not.

That depends on the email service you are using. If the gmail account is an IMAP account, it should work the same as iCloud mail and stay in sync. The only difference being that you would need to set your gmail account up on each device manually.

  • CAN I SYNC GAMES FROM IPAD THAT IS ONLY COMPATIBLE WITH IPAD TO MAC PRO?

hi there! can i sync games to my mac pro that i bought from my ipad, and its only compatible with ipad, iphone or ipod?

You can sync apps through iTunes, as a backup. You can't run those apps on your Mac, though.

  • How can I sink all photos in iPad to mac pro

I use iCloud and I can't seem to photo stream my photos from my iPad to mac.

Connect your iPad to your computer; launch iPhoto; select the iPad on the left; the main screen should show the Import option.
You can also use the Image Capture application in your Utilities folder, Aperture, or whatever other photo app you are using. Just select that app to open when the iPad is connected.
To select which photos you want to sync back to the iPad, use the Photos tab in iTunes.

  • Ipad or mac pro or mac air

i have a pc.i am joining work.my use will be of business apps like keynote numbers and pages and some other apps. my proffesion needs travelling at least 5-7 days a month. my pc is in good condition so which gadet you would suggest for me- mav pro, mac air or ipad

A lot depends on what you expect the addition to do...provide limited computing but great portaility, then the iPad because it has the iWork components available to it.  But limited ability to only those apps available from the app store.  For computing capability and portability, the MBA is great, small, light weight, fast, will run MS Office, and is an honest to goodness computer.  Lots of power, then the MBP is best...all things compatible with Lion, memory and harderive upgrades, two graphics processors, all around power house.
    Some thoughts.

  • Transfer photos from original iPad to Mac Pro

My hard drive crashed & I lost my pictures on my desktop, but the last year of photos was synced to my ipad.  How can I transfer those back to my computer now that I have a new hard drive installed?

It is a mac.  Well, while emailed photos do appear in iphoto and allow me to import them, the photo album & photo stream from my ipad does not.  Is there a way to get them to appear?  thank you!

You use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes. This will only put the applications into the computer's iTunes library for storage or transport; running them on your computer requires the Mac OS X version, which is a separate product, and if the developer chooses, a separate purchase.

  • Does Icloud sync for bookmarks between Ipad and mac pro with lion work for anyone?

My wife has an Ipad 2 and Macbook Pro tunning Lion. Bookmarks and docs do not sync on icloud. I see from the discussions many are having this problem. My question is does this work for anyone? Am wasting my time trying to make it work?

It works now, but it was a bit of a mess for a bit.
I turned off bookmark syncing on all devices but one, I exported my bookmarks to the desktop and deleted them from safari, thus deleting them from iCloud, I then added them back from the desktop. On my other devices I deleted all my bookmarks, turned bookmark syncing back on and chose to merge.

  • Synching calendar on iMac, iPhone, iPad, and mac pro

i'm a newbie, is there a way i can synch my calendar on all my 4 system? thanks.

Yes, it is called iCloud.  If your iMac has Lion, Mac OS X 10.7.2 or later, you can use iCloud on the iMac and the idevices if they have iOS 5 or later.  Just click on the iCloud icon on your iMac, System Preferences, on the left side and under Internet and Networks and setup your free iCloud account.

  • Here's how to sync your Notes between iPad and Mac

This is not immediately obvious and took me several conversations with various AppleCare techs before I finally got the solution as to why my notes on my iPad where not syncing to my Mac Pro. The problem seems to be that you can't sync if you only have Notes on your iPad. You must have notes on your Mac to which unlike Calendar and Contacts don't have corresponding standalone applications, iCal and Addressbook, respectively. Notes exist within Mac Mail. I only had Notes on my iPad and none on my Mac Pro. In this event here's what to do to get setup and syncing:
    SETUP:
    1. Go to System Preferences on your Mac > MobileMe > Sync > and make sure Notes is checked although, syncing via the cloud apparently won't happen until iOS 4.2.
    2. With Mac Mail launched, if you've never created a note in Mac Mail, in the left column you should see:
    MAILBOXES
    ON MY MAC
    RSS
or if you've created some notes on your Mac Mail, you'll see:
    MAILBOXES
    REMINDER
    - Notes
    ON MY MAC
    RSS
The key is you have to have REMINDERS created. So if you don't have it created, when you sync your iPad and Mac, the iPad doesn't know what to do as there's no "receptacle" for it's notes on your Mac.
So in Mail, in the top of the window create a new Note, click the notepad icon to the right of the New Message.
Now REMINDERS will be created in Mail's left column with this new note. You can simply put "Test" or whatever and click "Done" in the upper left of the Note's window.
    3. Plug your iPad into your Mac, in iTunes, in the left column click your iPad under DEVICES the Info tab in the top. At the bottom of the page is "Other" > click: Sync notes. Do NOT click the checkbox "Notes" in the next section under "Advanced"
    4. Click "Apply" at the bottom of the page and your iPad and Mac will begin to sync. It may take awhile as I believe it is doing both a sync and backup.
Once this process is done, you'll see your notes fully sync'd on your iPad and Mac. Yea! but there's more...
    5. Notes created in Mac Mail show up in 2 places: your MAILBOXES > Inbox and under REMINDERS > Notes, and if you delete the Mac Mail note in your inbox, it deletes the note in your REMINDERS.
This is unfortunate and not great interface design IMHO and should be remedied.
Luckily the last Tier 2 AppleCare tech I just spoke with had a workaround for this, which is:
    6. Create a new mailbox inside Notes under REMINDERS. Click Notes, then go to Mailbox > New Mailbox... in the top of your monitor screen.
Under the location pulldown it should show a notepad icon and On My Mac.
For the Name, I called my new mailbox "iPad Notes" Then click OK.
Then a triangle appears next to Notes mailbox to access this new subfolder (iPad Notes) and you then drag your now sync'd notes from Notes under REMINDERS to your "iPad Notes" subfolder under Notes. Now your left column will look like:
    MAILBOXES
    REMINDERS
    -Notes
    --iPad Notes
    ON MY MAC
    RSS
Doing this drag to "iPad Notes" will remove the note(s) from your inbox, but keep it in your REMINDERS and thus be available for Syncing, which currently can only be done with your iPad when plugged in via USB to your Mac.
Apparently, in iOS 4.2, you'll be able to use MobileMe to sync Notes just like Calendar and Contacts. We'll see.
I hope this is helpful. It took me awhile to get all this set up, and being that I am not an AppleCare tech, if you have questions instead of asking me, I recommend you call AppleCare and review with them. Let them know I got the above info from Tier 2 support.
Once iOS 4.2 and Lion come out, all this may, hopefully be a simpler process, but as of this writing, pre 4.2 and Lion, this is now working on my iPad and Mac Pro.
    Good Luck.
    Steven

Thanks ,,, but when I "Go to System Preferences on your Mac > MobileMe > Sync > and make sure Notes is checked"
I CANNOT check the "Notes". It is NOT highlighted. MAYBE because I am NOT logged-in to mail.mac.com?
Is this why my Sync Notes between MacBook Pro and iPAD 2 does NOT work?
    How do I fix it?
Also I continue to get Error Message "smtp.mail.com" password not accepted.
I DO NOT know my mail.mac.com password.

  • "Charging" icon when actually not charging on Mac Pro Early 2008

I'm perplexed by a charging/syncing issue I noticed recently with my iPad and Mac Pro Early 2008. I've seen the many posts about the "not charging" message when it is actually being charged. My situation is the opposite - I plugged in the iPad last night for sync and charge with my Mac Pro and when I woke this morning, the charge icon was still on the iPad but the charge level was the same as last night - i.e., 55%. I confirmed the iPad screen was off.
One change from the previous times I've charged is that this time I used a new USB extension cable - might that be the culprit? The cable worked for syncing and an iPad software upgrade. I would think that the iPad would give a message that it is not charging if there wasn't enough juice available. Seems odd to have this opposite phenomenon occurring.
I finally disconnected and plugged the iPad into the 10W wall A/C charger and it now appears to be charging normally.
    Thoughts?

I checked the machine settings this morning and while the display was in sleep mode the computer was set to never sleep. I'm also wondering if there's a chance the iPad was "awake" all night with screen on - don't think so, and I kept it plugged in this morning and put the iPad screen to sleep for at least 20-30 minutes and the recharge progress never changed - i.e., stayed at 55%.

It is a hard one.. laptops with small drives are a pain.
What you need is a home media server.
Some people use a PC running itunes for cost.. but that is nothing like as good as using a Mac mini.. they make great little HTPC device.. you can plug in large hard disks and store all your files and media. And share it with the network.. Read up apple's instructions on home sharing.
    https://www.apple.com/au/support/homesharing/
For cost you can buy a mini from 2011 or 2012.. I would not recommend earlier ones.. the advantage of 2012 is they have USB3 ports. But you will pay more for them.. new mini is not as useful.. they have soldered in memory and you cannot upgrade.. the old mini was the most easily modified mac in the whole range. Uses little power and can be bought for a $300US for a good one second hand.. maybe less.

    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
The 5 second timing is important to a successful reset.
