IPad sends audio only to headphones, AirPlay only transmits sound to ATV2

Hi everyone,
i have a weird problem: my ipad suddenly stopped making any sounds (i know about the switch). Now, any application with airplay icon shows two options: "headphones" and "apple TV". With headphones, i can hear sound alright.
at the same time, if i try to stream video to ATV2 through airplay, it would only stream sound and no video.
i also have iphone, which streams everything ok.
i tried restarting and resetting.
any chance i can solve this without restoring ipad?

you can't rely on airplay mirror some apps support the old in app airtune audio only option if the video app in question does you can do it from the apps settings somehow
if not then you need a airport express which does pretty much what airplay mirror on the Apple TV does but it's a audio only

  • Sending Audio-only stream to iOS

What is the URL coming off FMS that I feed to the iOS device?
    FMS URL: rtmp://server/livepkgr
    Stream: livestream?adbe-live-event=liveevent
video: box is unchecked to send audio-only
audio can be either AAC or mp3, does this change the URL of the stream?
    Thanks,

  • HT4623 My iPad 2 audio only works with headphones and orientation does not work at all

My iPad 2 volume button does not work with the integrated speakers of my iPad, once a headphone is connected to the jack output of my iPad the OSD volume displays fine and works to the external headphone but once the headphone jack is removed, there is no more a volume bar and the side volume buttons don't work at all, this has affected the screen orientation as well, screen does not orientate  as well,
    Please help

If you deleted files from the operating system, you wrecked your installation and the first thing you need to do is either restore those files from a backup or reinstall the OS. Doing that is never the solution to any problem. Back up all data before making any changes.

  • Ipad volume button only says sound effects

Not sure what happened but my volume button does not operate now on my ipad 2. When I unlock it and try it, it says sound effect.  I have tried all the common remedies posted to no help.  Only sound I can get is from the headphones.  Please help me.

Nevermind about the help.  I spoke to a friend and he suggested taking Q-Tip, removing part of the cotton, put a little rubbing alcohol on it, then insert it into the headphone jack.  Clean it several times.  Then also do the same to the charging port.  Not sure which fixed it but it works properly now.

  • New iPad Music audio breaks up with Airplay

I have an Apple TV (HD 720), two New iPads (they both exhibit the same issue), and iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.  Airplay works fine with most videos (eg youtube, vimeo, quicktime, etc.)  BUT when I try to stream audio music through the Apple TV, the music badly breads up, just quick audio blips with a second in between.  I found a Bible app that uses audio do the same thing.  My iPhone 4 works just fine.
Next thing I'd note is that when I selected "Mirroring" the audio worked fine, but after 30 seconds or so the sound reverted from airplay back to my iPad on a recurring basis.
Lastly I would tell you that I restored my iPad to factory settings with no effect.  Obviously I haven't had the New iPad for long and I recently updated my Apple TV to the latest software.  I can't tell you if the problem existed before the update.
Any ideas?  Sounds like a software problem to me?

I've got a Thomson Tg782t WiFi modem that I have used for years with no problems.
We recently turned the WiFi off on the Thomson and installed a Cisco Linksys E3200 to improve the bitrate for my son's games, and, you guessed it, Music from my iPad 2 started breaking up on the Apple TV 2. Video is fine and my iPhone 4 didn't have a problem.
On another forum someone else said they solved the problem by using the 3.4 GHz range from the Cisco router for the Apple TV and the 5 GHz range for the iPad. Apparently it works the other way round, too, just as long as the devices are using different frequencies.
I solved the problem by turning the WiFi back on on the Thomson, and running all my iGadgets through that.
Looks like there's something going on between iOS Music and Cisco E3200s. No idea what.

  • With Airplay, is it possible to send audio, when mirroring, to Airplay-enabled speakers?

When mirroring an iMac onto a TV using Airplay via Apple TV, is it possible to send the audio to Airplay enabled speakers instead of using the TV's speakers? This potentially means that one could have surround sound whilst mirroring the screen onto the TV.
Thanks for any help in advance!

If the speakers are airplay enabled then you can just set the audio output via the Apple TV settings

  • HT5517 is it possible to send audio out to remote airplay speakers at the same time using Atv wired(optical) speakers?

i like to listen to music in the living room and bedroom simultainiously from my home theater and a set of airtunes connected speakers using a mac mini.
Is this possible with an Apple TV/home theater/APxpress setup?
airport does show in Atv as a speaker option

    Hi,
I'm a owner of the X-fi Elite Pro, and for me the headphone + speakers settings works very well. Just to be sure, you bought the X-Fi XtremeGamer Falalty Pro Series? and not the XtremeGamer Fatalty Champ Series or even the old regular X-Fi Fatalty? If so, I'm quite sure you need the I/O box with the 6.35 mm (/4 inch) steroe jack. My headphones are connected through the /4 inch jack on the Elite Pro unit and my 5. surround system through the X-Fi card's 3x /8? mini jack.
I guess you have to buy the X-Fi I/O Dri've Upgrade Kit (or the Console Upgrade Kit) to use your headphones and speakes at he same time. I chose the Console because i couldn't li've with a thick and ugly digital cable sticking out in the front of my PC?
    Hope it helped!

  • Videos app only plays sound through Airplay

    Hi,
When I airplay a video using the 'Videos' app on my iPhone 4S or my iPad Mini I only get sound through my Apple TV.  I understand that I can use Mirroring to see the video as well, but other apps show audio and visual without having to mirror.  I tested video stored in the 'Photos' app and a trailer for a movie in the iTunes app.  Both of these worked.  Does the 'Videos' app not show visuals without mirroring or can I change something?

I tested the 'Videos' app with an iPhone 4 today and audio and visuals worked with my Apple TV using Airplay. Has this feature been removed for more recent products which support Mirroring?

  • MacBook Pro Early 2011 - Airplay Mirroring only sends audio to Apple TV 2nd Gen

Ok, I'm stumped by this one. I have a 15" MBP Early 2011 edition and an Apple TV 2nd Gen. Airplay Mirroring from my MBP to Apple TV only transmits the audio -- the MBP will resize the screen like it's connected to a 16:9 device, and Apple TV will show a black screen like it's about to pick up the video signal, but no video transmits. A couple of times, video started transmitting, but it was about 30 seconds delayed (?!) and extremely choppy. Both devices are connected wirelessly to a Linksys router with 5 GHz (wireless N) capabilities. The router has been configured to Apple's recommendations for Airplay Mirroring.
A little more about my MacBook Pro:
    Early 2011 Model ID: MacBookPro8,2
    OS: 10.8.2 Mountain Lion
    CPU: Intel Core i7
      Processor Speed:          2 GHz
      Number of Processors:          1
      Total Number of Cores:          4
L2 Cache (per Core):          256 KB
      L3 Cache:          6 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6490M, VRAM 256 MB Total
This problem is driving me crazy! Airplay works flawlessly between my iPhone 5 and Apple TV, but not with a much more powerful laptop. Also, I tried Mirroring from a friend's 13" MacBook Pro, and it did the same thing.
Any suggestions, tips, ideas, etc. to get this working is appreciated!

your macbook dont support airplay mirror
He has an Early-2011 MacBook Pro, which does meet the requirements. The issue is that it is running OS X 10.7.5 and needs to be upgraded to Mountain Lion to use mirroring.

  • How can I stream the audio only to my Apple TV while watching the video on my iPad?

    Hi everybody!
My question might sound a little confusing to some of you, but anyway: When I watch a video on my iPad (youtube app, facebook, etc.) I would like to watch the video on my iPad and stream the audio to my atv, which is connected to my hifi. Currently, every time I hit the airplay button both video AND audio will be streamed.
Many people complain about only streaming audio, but that's precisely what I am looking for! I don't want to turn on my TV for every silly 0:30 min youtube video. I would love to find something like this:
    Cheers for any help!

  • How do I send SMS only at ALL TIMES with an iPhone to ALL contacts? My family shares iPads under my ID and now my teenager gets all my business texts!

How do I send SMS only at ALL TIMES with an iPhone to ALL contacts? iOS 8 now forces all Apple users to use iMessage all the time with all other iOS users. The option to send as SMS only is subordinate to iMessage in iOS 8 settings and CANNOT be turned off to send only SMS texts to another iOS device! This is a serious privacy issue for all households using iOS and doing family sharing, including over a number of iOS devices, under one member's Apple ID. Why should business conversations or financial conversations between parents be readable on an iPad in the hands of a teenager or a seven year old? The answer is not as simple as "Just don't enable iMessage on your other devices," because amy family that shares the Apple ID password is vulnerable to teenagers particularly hacking into iMessage to monitor, for example, what their parents are saying. If I were Samsung or Google I would hammer this issue immediately and continually until it is fixed by Apple (and I'm not sure why they haven't yet). iMessage is a convenience but it has this serious limitation given the architecture of the Apple universe. Apple simply cannot force all its users to conduct text messaging in arbitrarily limited way, any more than it was able to force all its users to switch from Google Maps. When will Apple fix this?

    Trademann wrote:
Fox, that does not work, because then you are blocked from sending any form of message to another Apple user. iMessage MUST be activated to text any other iOS device. And then Apple defaults by ALWAYS using iMessage between iOS devices. There is simply no way, within iOS 8, to send SMS only to another Apple user. Apple has made that impossible.
The SMS-only choice used to be on the same menu level as iMessage, but  now it is locked WITHIN iMessage, and is not available as a choice unless iMessage is activated. Then it is limited solely to being used if iMessage is not available.
I'm sure their argument is that they are saving their customers money because iMessage is free, but they are imposing an opportunity cost on 100 percent of their user base in the guise of saving that money. What they are really doing is entrapping faithful users such as myself further within the Apple ecosystem. If I hadn't already spent thousands of dollars on my iTunes library I might consider a Galaxy ... Samsung does not deserve to regain any momentum if they can't figure out how to exploit this.
Turning off iMessage does not prevent you from sending messages to other Apple users.  You can send an SMS to any iPhone without your own iMessage turned on, even if it is turned on on their iPhone.
The SMS-only option is: Turn off iMessage.  Literally.  That's it.

  • Ipad mini can send messages to android but ipad mini data only cannot, why?

My husband has ipad mini data only, I have ipad mini cellular and data ( but I never buy cellular plan except for trips, so only use wifi)I have both updated to ios8 latest version.  I tested this: I sent ipad messages (using message app already on ipad) and  sent messages to my own iphone 6 and my husbands ipad and someone elses iphone and then to an ANDROID phone, and it worked perfectly ( gave me a code to enter to do it) but when I tried sending to android phone off of my husbands ipad mini, it did red error message saying not delivered.  same household, same wifi in same room, so I cannot figure out why his won't go through to android but mine will.  bought ipad mini's same year, same model except one(his) data only, but both use same wifi (home) what do I need to do to make his send those text messages? that is what is actually being sent, text messages from the apple message app on both.  please advise step by step and no I don't use cellular data on mine, just wifi).

text messages from iPad are actually sent from iPhone.
on iPhone, go to Settings >  Messages
if you have the same Apple ID signed in from other devices, you should  see a "Text Message Forwarding", tap and you will see a switch for other devices.
    1. so just make sure your husband's iPhone and iPad are both updated to the latest iOS 8.
    2. sign in iMessage from Settings on both devices with the same Apple ID.
    3. check the "Text Message Forwarding" option on iPhone, follow the tips given to complete.
    good luck!

  • Why does my iPad 2 think my iTunes U videos are audio-only?

I downloaded some iTunes U videos via iTunes 10.5.2 and they play fine (as videos with full audio) in iTunes 10.5.2 on my MacOS 10.5.8 dual G5 PowerMac.  However, when I sync up my iPad2 running iOS 5.0.1 via USB cable with the above iTunes 10.5.2 containing the above iTunes U videos, the iPad2 somehow thinks they are just audio-only files and they show up in the Music app (double tapping them in the Music app just plays the audio part of the file without any video) instead of the Videos app (which I would expect to find them).  After all, when I sync up non-iTunes U movies to my iPad 2, it recognizes them as regular videos and they show up and play fine in the Videos app.  And since I can watch the videos on my PowerMac desktop, it's obvious that the video hasn't been somehow stripped out.  Is there a setting I can batch-set on all these iTunes U files in iTunes that will allow the iPad 2 to recognize them as videos instead of only audio?

If you have the WiFi-only iPad (which does not have GPS) your location is determined by the mapped location of nearby WiFi routers.
Without GPS location-finding is done by using a Apple location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured.
The Apple database is built and updated by Apple GPS-enabled devices (primarily iPhones) actually seeing routers and then adding/updating the router's locations into the database.
Note to be used for location determination, a device does not need to be actually connected to a router, it just has to see the router. More precise location determination can be done if several nearby routers can be seen. When a router is moved from one location to another erroneous locations can sometimes be reported until the router's location is corrected in Apple's database. This may be the source of your problem.

  • ATV2 without display for AirPlay, audio only

Hi, I don't have a TV and use my Mac or iPod touch to watch DVDs or listen to music etc. I do however have a home stereo, and would like to hear stuff from the Mac and iPod there.
It appears that the Airport Express will not work because it doesn't support AirPlay from iOS devices, however if I read correctly the ATV2 will work with AirPlay both from iOS and from iTunes on a Mac.
Now I've still got some questions that I'hoping somebody here can help me with:
    - If I set up the ATV2 once with a screen, will I be able to use it without a display connected as an audio-only AirPlay system, or will I need a display, and if yes for what?
    - Is there any way to get AirPlay to stream only the audio portion of a video so that I can watch the movie on my Mac but with wireless audio output on the stereo via the ATV2?
    Thanks

In theory it should work, but some recent firmwares broke 'headless' audio and required HDMI to enable optical out.
They have supposedly fixed this but I've not moved AppleTV to hi-fi room to check.
Airport Express certainly does support audio Airplay from iOS devices, I have an older one and use it for this often.
What I'm not sure about is whether or not when playing video it will allow audio output alone or just fails because it's video - it should work with a stereo soundtrack i would say but AC3 would not be supported I suspect.
