IPad Serial Failure

My Mac is showing this message when I connected my iPad A Bluetooth serial Failure has occurred. Message says Failed to open an RFCOMM serial channel
Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device. On checking under Hardware _ Bluetooth I see that under one heading for a mobile phone incoming
serial port 3 Bluetooth -PDA-sync RECOMM CHANNEL 3 reqires authentication can anybody help?

Thank you I am quite aware that you cannot connect a i Pad via Bluetooth to a Mac I do not wish too but what I do wish to do and have been trying to do for the past 3days is the delete/erase/remove what ever you like to call it an error message which I quoted in my first message Now if anyone can help me I would be very
thankful as this problem is driving me up the wall.I would add that my iPad has been accepted by the system and I find it very helpful mind you the arrow head does go off on a run about now and then. I just wish it would take the error message.

When I restart my iPad the connect to iTunes comes up and stays on until it shuts down again, I have read a report from Apple support suggesting I reinstall iTunes so I might try that again and also your suggestion which i shall also try, but thanks again - rg1547

I have unfortunately had my Ipad stolen from me.I have not got access to a computer which I've used to back it up.So I'm just wondering if Apple would have my Ipad serial number?

Apple (and no one else) can not assist (with serial number or iCloud) in finding a lost or stolen iPad.
Report to police along with serial number. Change all your passwords.

Hi,
After playing around for a while, I finally got my Nokia N82 to work as a modem on my MacBook Pro using scripts from http://www.taniwha.org.uk
But after 30mins online I was disconnected and now if I try to connect again I get the following dialogue:
A bluetooth serial failure has occurred.
Failed to open an RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device.
The only thing I understand about this is the authentication part. My phone is set to automatically allow all connections from my computer.
Any idea what is going on?

I'll take a shot. Who is your cell phone provider? Did you look at the modem scripts in /Library/Modem\ Scripts for Nokia one(s). There are some. Possibly generic that would work. To make this simple, since it is late, #1 here is system log of my Panther and LG phone using one of above mentioned scripts.#2 And the link is an older one about doing the same type connection and the problems with Verizon. But then I never had same error message you got. I searched on that error and it appears that rfcomm can loop and the way to fix that is to bind to more channels which I am not sure how, since the only thing to change , it appears is in bluetooth preferences. I would not touch that, yet. The problem on configs, I believe, is the property is propriotory(spelling?). Or the channel is in the phone settings. Anyway I would try a different modem script in the Library and also check out the other links in #2.

I was traveling from nice France to Miami on jan 5. My bags were delayed and when they showed up my iPad serial number. DNGQVR0DKPJ was gone. Strangely a empty box for the iPad mentioned above was in my bag. I can only assume from this that some organized theft was taking place at some point in my bags trip to Miami. Change your iTunes (Apple ID) password along with any other password that was stored in the iPod. If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries.

I wish I could find a way to identify my iPad serial number. It was stolen from me a month ago, I could trace it to the street name but the police so far has done nothing. I was told I could trace using the serial number unfortunately it was stolen right after I got it so I don't have the box neither. I need this iPad for my studies. I can't afford buying a new one.

You cannot trace your iPad via its serial number. If you set up your iPad and authorized "Find My iPad" in Settings, you could go to icloud.com, enter your Apple ID, then attempt to find your iPad.
However, if the the thief isn't connected to a WiFi network, or has reset the iPad, or you didn't authorize "Find My iPad", you're out of luck. It can't be found.
As for your police, that's not an issue that we can help you with. Some police departments will help. Some won't.

I have found the list of serial numbers in the support section but as I was silly enough not to name them, I have no way of finding out which is which. I did on the other hand name them on iCloud, Is there any way of using the Find my iPad app to find the serial number?
