IPad shuts down unexpectedly and does a time reset

Hey,
I have an iPad2 iOS 5.0.1 and I have this problem:
When I ever try to just use my iPad normaly like playing or listening to music for somereason it shuts down everytime. after powering the iPad up and it does a time reset to 01.01.1970  4:00 AM , hard reset doesnt work with me I have to plug it to the charger when plugging it an empty battery picture shows up even though it's at 100% full battery I don't know if it's a hardware problem or a software problem. Does any one have the same problem as I do?
I'm hoping that I can find an answer or a solution here

Khalloof-
If the empty battery picture shows up, you do NOT have a 100% full battery unless there is a loose connection inside the iPad.  The time reset makes me think that is the problem.
If you can show it to an Apple Store Genius, you may get a new iPad on the spot.  If there is no Apple Store near you, search for an Apple Authorized Repair Center near you.  There may be one in your city.

  • IMac shut down unexpectedly and automatically cleared cache + reset safari

for weeks now i've been dealing with the terrible problem my g5 shutting off for no apparent reason. it's happened anywhere from 2-50 times per day. on nearly ever occasion when the computer restarted it made the loud 'vroom' noise it typically does, but the last time it shut down there was no 'vroom' and when i went to safari my entire history had been reset. is there anyway to retrieve this (yes, i know it's probably the least of my problems, but there are a few things for a few weeks ago that i'd very much like to get back to TODAY).
    thanks,
    Jeremiah

  • HT1414 why does my iPhone 5s shut down unpredictably and needs to be reset every time to start back up?

why does my iPhone 5s shut down unpredictably and needs to be reset every time to start back up?

    Hi Cyprus11,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iPhone is shutting down unexpectedly, I recommend going through these troubleshooting steps:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Best,

  • My imac shuts down unexpectedly and now a fan is running??

    Hello,
I have been working on my iMac all morning and it shut down twice within a half hour and I had to press the start button on the back to get it going again. Now their is a loud fan running and I have no idea what is going on. Help much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hi ebeugs,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If your iMac shut down unexpectedly, and the fan is running unusually fast or loud, you may need to reset the System Management Controller.
I recommend following this troubleshooting method:
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC.  Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
If the iMac unexpectedly shuts down again, or the fan continues running unusually fast or loud, follow these steps:
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
You can find these steps and more information about resetting the SMC here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

  • It shuts down unexpectedly and then it says something like "Overheat or something

Hi! My HP laptop is Pavilion dm4.
Problem: It shuts down unexpectedly and also when i touch the left side of my laptop, its so hot.

Compressed air is completely safe to use on the laptop.I use it every couple of months to clean both of mine and even inside the case of my desktop. Just be sure the laptop is shut down and  keep the can in upright position. If not it can disperse some of the liquid propellant in the bottom of can.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It seems like your logic board is damaged. As your computer is in warranty, you will get your MacBook repaired for free if you take it to an Apple Store or reseller. Furthermore, you may receive a new MacBook

  • MY mac mini shut down unexpectedly and now it won't restart properly

My mac mini shut down unexpectedly.  When I restarted it the screen turns blue and a box pops up that advises "Finder quit unexpectedly".  It gives me an option to ignore, Report, or Reopen.  The cursor works, but none of those button work.  I'm stuck on this screen.  I tried all the support suggestions with no luck.  What else can I do?

The "worm" as you call it is usually referred to as a Thermometer progress bar. It is showing that your Hard Drive cannot be mounted, and a Disk Utility (Repair Disk) is taking place. If not successful, your Mac will shut down, since it cannot be started up successfully.
You have unresolved Damage to the Disk Directory.
If you do not have Backups, making them should be Top Priority.
Otherwise, boot your Mac from an alternate Boot Drive. If you do not already have one, buy a drive to replace the Internal Drive currently inside your Mac, and an External enclosure to run it in. Install Mac OS X on it and boot your Mac from the fresh Install.
Then you can attempt to repair or salvage from the old drive at your leisure, using the full power of Mac OS X to do so. When your situation is stable, swap the Internal and External drives.

  • Ibook G4 shuts down unexpectedly and resets time and date

More and more frequently my iBook will shut down completely unexpectedly when not plugged in. This happens regardless of how much battery life it has or it claims to have (80%, 40%, 20%, 12%). It will not start up again from battery only. When I plug the computer and restart it, it has reset time and date to Wed March 31 1969, 19.31 pm. It alerts me that the time is set to before 2001 and this may lead applications to behave erratically.
Is this normal? Why is this happening?
I have a few months left of my APP, but that doesn't cover battery related problems, right?

Hi astaver and welcome to Apple Discussions.
If you are still using the original battery from a nearly 3 yrs old iBook then it is almost certain that the battery has reached the end of its useful life. The symptoms you describe more or less confirm this.
To check on battery health go to the Apple Menu>About this Mac>More Info>Power>Battery and copy/paste the info into a reply.
You can also download and install Coconut Battery which gives a GUI to the same info.
You are right in assuming that Applecare doesn't cover you for a dead battery of this age but you might like to see if you qualify under the iBook & PowerBook G4 - Battery Exchange Program.
    Good luck,
    Adrian

My macbook pro unexpectedly shut down and its not coming up. Cant seem to get it to start. What do i do pls?

  • HT3964 my imac 24" computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly....will resetting SMC resolve this?

as my post says above....my imac 24 (2009) will randomly go to sleep.....might not happen for a couple weeks then bam....it will happen multiple times an hour, a day, just totally random....the fan does seem to be running unusually high/loud with not much load being performed at all....top of imac 'seems' unusually hot/warm.....any ideas...?...I got here after weaving through an SMC reboot option article...which described my condition to a T...among many other low level functions it controls....
...seemed to have started right after I got my inside screen cleaned due to dust....they took it back and looked at all the connections and everything is fine....

...JG....just opened the link to reset the SMC.......REALLY?!... That's it......ha....just a 'glorified' reboot......thought it would be more ' complicated or in depth' than the steps below......just seems way too simplified....don't get me wrong....sure glad it's not!!.......I'm a huggggge apple fan.....multiple iPhones....iPads.....my Mac......for years.....even visit Palo Alto many times.....but haven't stalked the old 'residence'.....lol......I root galaxy s4's with new roms for friends etc.....but can't stray from the apple.....thanks for all your help to the community.....
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: For Intel-based Xserve computers that are not responding, you can shut down locally, or by using remote commands, or by pressing and holding the power button for five seconds.

  • Mail applic on iPad shuts down unexpectedly since moving from 4.2 to 4.3, all the time

    Hello,
ever since upgrading from 4.2 to 4.3 and higher I am experiencing unexpected application closure in the mail program. I have several mail accounts synced with my iPad (1 yahoo, 1 gmail and 2 exchange). I never had this experience under 4.2!

Here's a few ideas to get you (and the other posters as well) back to "normal" operations. The following three steps seem to clear up all but the more bizarre aspects of wireless networking and the touch:
    1. Reboot your router (unplug it from AC power). This will eliminate any router accumulated errors.
    2. Reset the touch network settings - Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings
    3. When the touch restarts, tap Settings > WiFi > Other and re-enter your network name, security, and network password.
Here's a few other things that can cause problems:
    1. WEP encryption - use WPA2-TKIP or use the master WEP hex key in place of your network password
    2. Make sure your router firmware is up to date. No firmware update available and your router is >3 years old? - time to consider buying a new one.
    3. Automatic channel changing by the router - pick one and stay with it.
    4. Router QOS service - newer routers with media streaming features may cause some problems
    5. Not sure if AES encryption (as in WPA2-AES) works correctly. Try the TKIP version which does work.
    6. Hidden Network SSIDs - useless as a security measure and it can force you to log onto your network each time.

This is just an add on to what rkaufmann87 has given you.
There are many users that are upset with the fact there software No Longer works after Installin Mavericks.
Here are some facts for you to  ponder when you go to the Microsoft Web Site.
Apple released the BETA Version of Mavericks weeks before it was released.
Apple does this whenever they release a new operating system so that the developers of the 3rd party sofware will have a seamless release of there Operating System.  It appears that someone at Microsoft was sitting on there thumbs when this beta was released to them.
So at this point all you can do is get on Microsofts web site at take your stresses and your anger on them.
