My Ipad is starting to play up.
When opening docs in both pages and numbers the programme close sending me back to the home screen.
The same thing happens when trying to open certain web pages in safari. Again safari just closes.
Very frusting. Any Ideas?

Try this:
1. Close all inactive apps. Double-click the Home button and hold apps in the Task Bar down until they all wiggle then tap the minus sign to close apps. Tap the home button to return to Home screen.
2. Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

  • Pages 5.1 error when trying to open documents

    Hey everyone,
    So I'm running Pages 5.1 and today, for the first time and seemingly out of nowhere, Pages has decided it will not open any files I have stored in iCloud or saved to my desktop barring one exception. If I send a document from iCloud via iMessage to myself (on my iPhone) and open it on my Mac, Pages opens it. Any other .pages file will not open and provides the error "The file "Document Name" could not be opened" with no explanation. It appears there are more than a few of you experiencing the same issue. Anyone have any luck?
    Now, PeterBreis0807, before you paste in your form response that I've seen all over the discussion forums I would like ot say that I am aware of the difference between Pages 5.1 and Pages 5 and Pages '09 and all of my documents are updated to the current standard and open and are editable on my iPhone and iPad and up until this evening were openable and editable on my iMac too. The only way I can get Pages 5.1 on my iMac to open a .pages file (one that has been opened on my iMac in Pages 5/5.1 previously and recently) is to send it to myself in an iMessage (or possibly an email, I haven't tried that) and extract the file from the .zip that iOS houses it in when sending via iMessage before opening it in Pages 5.1. Then the document is editable and and I can save it and everything. As soon as I close the document and try to open it again, "The file "Document Name" could not be openend".
    What. Gives?

    I was not going to post that because you made it clear what you were dealing with. For most people it is the 2 versions problem (amazingly they don't notice the obvious differences).
    You have given a work around which we can suggest to the next person to have the problem.
    Beyond that, all I can say is Pages 5.1 is extremely buggy and I would not trust it for any real work. I just play with it and answer posters' queries.
    I have no doubts as to what the root of the problem is, and that is the complexity of what both Apple is attempting to do and the file format with which they are doing it. They are not meet their own KISS standards and inevitably the house of cards topples every time someone opens the door.
    Why are you persisting with Pages 5.1? That's inviting trouble.

  • When trying to open documents, getting error as File is not a valid Win32 application

    Hi,
    I am trying to open a MPP by clicking on the name of the file. But I am getting the error as "path\filename.mpp is not a valid Wind32 application".
    I am able to save the document and open it in MPP, but clicking on the document name is giving this error "File is not a valid Win32 application".
    I have tried to repair "Microsoft Project". But still the same issue. I am using Office 2010. SharePoint site is SP 2010.
    How to fix this?
    Thanks

    Hi Ed,
    I am sorry, but I could not understand that answer.
    I have put that answer in the below quotes:
    "You are never going to believe what I did. This is a nice ending to a very confusing situation. lol
    I uninstalled Project 2007 and rebooted my laptop and reinstalled Project 2007. No Difference at all. Same thing happened. I just couldn't stop thinking about how 2007 Microsoft Office Component kept showing up in default programs. This has bugged me for days.
    I went browsing in my program files. I typed in Microsoft Office Project. The only thing I found was WINPROJ. I decided to check it out. I checked it's properties, size, location, etc.. What did I have to lose at this point? I clicked on it and it went into
    my default programs as Microsoft Office Project 2007. This doesn't make any sense to me. But, don't try to fix anything else if it isn't broken, right? It's working and I am so relieved. I mean, YAAAAY!!! Another mystery solved...
    Thanks for hanging in there with me to help solve this mystery. You have been of great assistance to me. You made me think outside the box and it worked.
    Laura"
    Does it mean MPP Should be a 2007 version?
    Thanks

  • IPad 2 shuts down any app trying to open a large PDF (40mb)

    Hi,
    Im trying to get my IPad to display large PDF files from my PC (Windows 7 64bit).  Im using a combination of WD 2 go linked to my NAS (My Book Live with up to date firmware) and also Goodreader.
    Everytime I try and open the PDF file both apps close down.  Ive have this problem with the native PDF reader on the iPad, Ibooks and dropbox.
    Does the IPad have a limitation on the size of PDF than can be imported and displayed?
    My Iphone 4 does the same by the way.
    Any ideas??
    PS, I joined the apple support community in order to write this post - never had to do that before so Im at the point of giving up unless someone knows something I dont!

    Ok, first I should mention I may make $ if you click the link below and purchase items.
    The issue with most general PDFs reader/viewers is they assume you have a paper size of 8.5 by 11.5 inches and a few hundred pages. They are not designed to work with thousands of pages, say medical text books of 8,000 pages. Nor  do they work well if the page size is measured in meters or yard. They either crash or scrolling is so painful you give up.
    Dealing with thoses issues are hard, anyway I try to as my son who is an engineer complained no app could open his engineering drawings, and Dad can you fix that?

  • HT4061 My iPad screen is frozen when trying to open Safari, any clues?

    iPad screen is frozen. Any clues?

    If it's just Safari that's frozen then try clearing ites cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cookies And Data and also Clear History
    If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
    A third option is a reset (or if the whole iPad is frozen) : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider if it appears), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Captivate 4 Shuts Down ("Crashes") When Trying to Create, Duplicate or Copy Slide

    See error messages:

    James,
    I have 100% sympathy for you...and others that suffer this same "crash" situation.
    I also have suffered at the hands of Adobe from this situation, and it took 4 weeks (yes 4 weeks), before Adobe was able to offer any sort of help.
    I started with the Forum but despite lots of good suggestions - nothing worked. At same time I was in contact with Adobe Tech Support (I use the word "support" lightly) and if you have not already found out...they were less than helpful.
    It was not until I made so much noise (threat of contacting consumer groups, trade press etc) that eventually a real person from Adobe contacted me, someone who understood I was a customer and I needed help, and they helped me resolve the problem. It was like a breath of fresh air. Adobe sent me two .dll files (BusinessRules.dll and QuizBusRules.dll) that I had to use to replace existing files in to Captivate4 programme and so far, touch wood, no problems.
    Apart from the diabolical "support" (or lack of it), from Adobe's Tech Support and apparent way Adobe shuns away from real help or support for their customers, and as long as Adobe continue rely on this excellent forum to deflect the problems away from themselevs, I regret I (and maybe you and others) will have to suffer whatever level of support Adobe care to throw at us.
    I got the distinct impression Adobe know there is a problem within Captivate 4 that causes these crashes, but have got their heads so far...in the clouds...way above the people that count, their CUSTOMERS, you will struggle to get anything from Adobe themselves.
    I am not a technical person, so cannot offer any help in that department, but as a consumer that has to work with Captivate and having suffered at their hands, here is what I suggest - as it seems the only way -
    1. Follow the good help and guidance from this Forum... but at the same time
    2. Make as much noise as possible via any Adobe communication channel you can find....Seems the wheel that squeeks gets the oil....

    file not found error
    adil

    Hi,
    first we need to figure out the error. change the web.config so that you can see the error on browser
    1) Obtain the complete call stack instead of the default error page:
    <SafeMode MaxControls="200" CallStack="false"/>
    to
    <SChangeafeMode MaxControls="200" CallStack="true"/>
    2) CustomeErrors mode value (in the system.web section) is set to Off:
    <customErrors mode="On">
    to
    <customErrors mode="Off">
    Change these value in "c:\inetpub\wssroot"  CA dirctory web.config and
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\web.config .
    now again try to do the action. you will get the error on screen.

  • AppleWorks quits when trying to open documents.

    I'm having trouble opening any document I have saved on my Mac. Still fairly new to Macs (18 months or so) but loving it until I upgraded to Tiger this summer. Since then I have experienced a few applications quitting unexpectedly which is frustrating to say the least, iPhoto runs extremely slowly, and AppleWorks is the latest culprit. I cannot open any document which is saved to my Mac, unless it it one I created with AppleWorks. All document opened with no problem until just recently, but as soon as I click to open now I am greeted with the message "The application AppleWorks quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other applications are not affected. Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple." Clicking reopen does indeed open the application, but not the document. Even by going via File, Open through AppleWorks, and changing file format to all available does nothing. Am I just being extremely thick, or is something more sinister afoot?! And when I do send reports to Apple when applications quit like this, does the problem get registered and looked into for future development, or do people just laugh at me??!!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
    I'm having trouble opening any document I have saved
    on my Mac. Still fairly new to Macs (18 months or so)
    but loving it until I upgraded to Tiger this summer.
    Since then I have experienced a few applications
    quitting unexpectedly which is frustrating to say the
    least, iPhoto runs extremely slowly, and AppleWorks
    is the latest culprit. I cannot open any document
    which is saved to my Mac, unless it it one I created
    with AppleWorks. All document opened with no problem
    until just recently, but as soon as I click to open
    now I am greeted with the message "The application
    AppleWorks quit unexpectedly. Mac OS X and other
    applications are not affected. Click Reopen to
    open the application again. Click Report to see more
    details or send a report to Apple." Clicking reopen
    does indeed open the application, but not the
    document. Even by going via File, Open through
    AppleWorks, and changing file format to all available
    does nothing. Am I just being extremely thick, or is
    something more sinister afoot?!
    Try deleting AppleWorks' preference files. Sometimes corruption of these files causes strange results.
    See Peggy's User Tip explaining how to do this:
    <http://discussions.apple.com/click.jspa?searchID=505306&messageID=607287>
    In addition, you should carry out the usual Mac OS X troubleshooting step of repairing permissions on your drive. It's recommended you do this before and after updating Mac OS X on your Mac.
    This topic explains how to repair permissions:
    <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html>
    And when I do send
    reports to Apple when applications quit like this,
    does the problem get registered and looked into for
    future development, or do people just laugh at me??!!!
    I doubt very much that anyone laughs at you. This is an automated system that requests the report, so the people receiving actually want it.
    I don't believe AppleWorks bug reports will be looked into for future development. AppleWorks hasn't been updated in years and it's very likely it won't be updated every again - it is gradually being replaced by Apple's iWork productivity suite.
    Cheers.

    The first error has nothing to do with Photoshop - that's some .NET application.
    The second error is most likely connected to a third party plugin or driver.
    And you're running Photoshop CC (14.x) instead of the current Photoshop CC 2014 (15.x).
