Ipad space storage missing

I am using an iPad retina 16gb. I tried to update from iOS 8.0.2 from 7 earlier thru wifi then during the update (where you see an apple) it hang there and I waited for 3 hours, so I tried a hard reset. So what happened is that it got corrupted and I lost all my data as it asked me to connect thru iTunes and restore to factory settings.
So now I restored to factory settings (I have no backup unfortunately) and I checked my "Usage" available is only 10.8GB with only used at 943MB. So I assume that the original download version of the iOS 8.0.2 installer (around 4GB) is somewhere inside my iPad but I cannot see in my iTunes.
How can I free this space again?
*Note I already checked in Software Update and there is no file to delete there. It just prompts me "iOS 8.0.2 Your software is up to date".

The apps that have been enhanced for the retina display are signifcantly larger.

My iPad air is missing some apps from my phone. It keeps saying, " there is not enough storage available to download...." I purchased additional storage twice, my device now shows 18GB free of a total 25GB, and still I cannot download apps I've had for yrs

iCloud space is for backup only.
You need more local storage; free up space on iPad:
Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Delete what is not needed to free up space on iPad.

  • Saving ipad 3 Storage Space

Hi everyone, I am new to the ipad as I have only had mine for a few months. I have questions in regard to transferring books, movies ect to my PC. I guess my biggest question is after I have synced my purchases and they show up in itunes, can I delete them from the ipad and still have access to them because they are in itunes? And then what happens when I sync again after they are deleted and itunes sees that they are not on the device any longer. Are they removed from itunes because they have been deleted from the ipad ? How exactly does all of this work ? I use my ipad for entertainment purposes only - books, music and magazines ect ... After a while, I am going to have a storage issue so I need to know if I will simply have to delete some items or if there are ways to keep access to them. Forgive my naive questions :-) I have no idea what I am doing !

Using the camera connection kit, you can only import photos and videos using the camera, an SD card or an USB flash drive. You can't export any type of files using the CCK.
I bought a cheap 3rd party CCK to use as a backup for my Apple CCK. Works fine.
There are some wireless external hard drives that can be used with the iPad.
The Kingston Wi-Drive, which costs $50 for the 16 Gigabyte, and then $30 more for every 16 gigs more. It works by you turning it on and then accessing the files on it from an app that you download on your iDevice. You can access music, movies, and other stuff. No connections or anything, it works like a WiFi connection, you connect to it from the setting on the iPad under wireless networks.
Then there is the Seagate GoFlex, which some would recommend over the Wi-Drive. But this one costs $199 and had 500 Gigabytes of storage. It works the sameway as the Kingston: no wires, runs over its wireless connection. You can actually fit up to 300 HD movies on it.

  • HT204264 iDevice Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library over filling ipad iphone storage - what happens next?

Device Sync Query - IOS Photos & iCloud Photo Library fills ipad iphone storage - what happens next?
Quick question, when you select IOS Photo / IiCloud storage (photos are optimised etc) what happens when ipad / iphone storage is full and you now need to add new apps, photos etc?  In my case I have  3 * 64gb ipads & 2 * 128 gb iphone but these are all filling up with photos since enabling IOS Photo &  iCloud Photo Library (as all of my photos on each device are now copbined on every device as well as the cloud).  This has become a problem as when I try to sync my idevice I get the device full warning (and I am assuming I now need to delete apps / videos if I want to sync or make more space for new photos etc). As far as I can tell once you enable IOS Photos and iCloud all photos will upload at original resolution and download at idevice resolution and there is no way to select / control the photos you want to keep on phone  (eg if you delete photo on phone it will now delete the original on cloud).
    Couple of questions / Suggestions:
    - Will IOS Photos on IOS device  automatically lower resolution of pics or use thumbnails for old photos that are already in icloud to ensure that there is space on device for new photos,  apps videos music etc. Eg will old photos that have already been uploaded in icloud be replaced by new apps videos music etc (not sure that the IOS Sync or iCloud currently does this)
    - Is there away to limit control or limit the number of IOS photos that sync to each idevice (eg by starring photos)? I had a look and can not see away to select photos you want to keep or remove (without deleting them on cloud).  As per above I am hoping that the IOS sync and icloud systems are smart enough to replace Photos that have already upgraded to cloud with a lower quality / thumbnail to make more more room for new photos and apps (but not clear if this occurs)
    - If this is a problem now what happens once the new PHOTOS launches for OS Desktop eg will it add in all our photos from iphoto to the icloud then to the idevice as part of the OS PHOTOS UPGRADE. I have 15-30 gb of photos in IPHOTO that are now backing up to icloud, there needs to be away to only select starred photos or albums or every photo try to download to my iphone (which will kill my storage). There also needs to be away to keep photos on idevice (for those times when you do not have internet and can not download from iCloud to iDevice
Apologies if I have missed something obvious and welcome any thoughts & answers.
If there is no solution then Apple needs to look at this and highlight it as a risk to customers who switch as this is being sold as a way to minimise your device storage but can lead to to customers using up more  storage for photos on ipad iphone as a result of switch to IOS PHOTOS &
    iCloud Photo Library

Things are not as dire as they might seem at first glance. My 66GB iPhoto Library became a 40GB iCloud Photo Library (~11K photos, ~300 videos) and only uses 2.2GB on my iPad and 2.4GB on my iPhone. Scaling that experience, a 64GB/128GB iOS device should be able to easily handle a 300GB iPhoto library. My iPad and iPhone are 32GB devices and I expect them to be livable through at least 30-40K of photos.
16GB devices have always been problematic for space even before iCloud Photo Library so I'd expect anybody with a 16GB device and more than a few thousand photos is not going to be able to use iCloud Photo Library with it. They will have to use iCloud Photo Streaming to get photos to iCloud Photo Library and iCloud Photo Sharing or iTunes syncing to get a subset of photos back to the device. Not a great solution but workable. However, it wrecks one of the best features for me which is using my iPad to edit the photos I take on my iPhone.
The part that worries me is the automatic space management routine. The problem it creates is that I might want to add a movie, but there won't be enough space, and my only option will be to reset iCloud Photo Library on the device to get back to all thumbnails on it to see if that gets me the space I need. I've already had to do it a couple of times with iTunes Match and it's not fun. It all depends on how aggressive Photo Library will be in trimming off full-size photos/videos and Apple appears to be leaving it a black box at this point. It would at least be nice to know an estimate of the minimum size so I know how much space I can recapture.

  • IPad video storage usage does not match what iTunes displays

When viewing the storage usage for my iPad mini through iTunes, I noticed "Other" was at 19.45 GB. I thought this was a little strange since I am somewhat familiar with the type of data that is categorized under "Other". When I checked the storage usage through settings on the iPad itself I saw "Videos" was at 18.2 GB, however there are no Videos synced to my iPad. Also, when I check the "About" page in settings, again on my iPad, it shows there are 10 videos. Again, I have no actual Videos on my iPad. If I check the Videos app the only Videos that are displayed are the Videos that I have purchased, but they have not been downloaded to my iPad. ALL the videos within the Videos app have the cloud icon meaning they are available for download from iCloud.
I am wondering if "Other" is so large because the iPad is saving space to stream these videos, which I have done quite a few times. Most of the time I will stream the videos purchased through the iTunes Store, instead of downloading them, to help save space.
Here is a screenshot of my iPad's storage usage through iTunes. Notice there is no purple bar for videos, but "Other" is huge.
This is a screenshot of the storage usage directly from my iPad. However, there are currently no videos synced to my iPad. The only videos in the Video app are displayed with the iCloud icon.

I have noticed there is a difference between tapping the cloud icon and tapping the video itself. When I tap the video itself it begins to play, and seems to behave as if it is "streaming". Once the video is done or stopped playing the cloud icon remains. When I actually tap the cloud icon it begins to download, and once the download is complete the cloud icon disappears.
After I read your response I had an idea and turned off Wi-Fi on my iPad. I then opened the Videos app and suddenly all the videos disappeared EXCEPT for the videos I have recently watched. These videos also play just fine. When I turn Wi-Fi back on, all the purchased videos return, including the ones that didn't disappear, but they ALL have the cloud icon again.
Thank you for the information you provided! I have a better understanding of how these videos are stored now. If I am not mistaken, iTunes seems to think these are cached files, were the iPad sees them in a different way.
As for your suggestion with "Manually manage music and videos", there seems to be some strange behaviour going on. I have been manually managing the content I sync to my iPad for some time, but this option was not checked when I look at the "Summary" page in iTunes. I checked the box and clicked on sync. Once it was done, I went to choose the music I wanted to sync to my iPad. The moment I check the box for "Sync Music" I get the message shown below. I click on "Remove and Sync", then select music to sync to my iPad. Once that sync is done I go back to the "Summary" page and the "Manually manage music and videos" check box is not checked anymore. I am not understanding this option correctly, or is there something strange going on?

  • IPad 3 and iPad mini storage disparity

I have an iPad 3 and an iPad mini which i use to carry identical information. I noticed that despite selecting the same photo folders on in iTunes, after syncing the iPad3 had used up more than double the space the iPad mini had used for the same number of photos. Looking into this further, I found a number of smaller discrepancies with the number of items synced to each device when the selected sync data was exactly the same, such as slightly different numbers of song and videos that were sucessfully synced to each. However, my main concern is the photos, which are now taking up 22.9 GB of the iPad 3 storage as opposed to the 10.8 GB taken to store the same photos on my iPad mini.
As both devices were intended to store exactly the same info, I decided to restore the iPad3 from a backup of the iPad mini. Surprise surprise, the iPad3 still allocated 22.9GB for photo storage. Can anybody please explain the disparity in the space used and whether there are any published differences between the iPad 3 and mini which may account for this and the other discrepancies between the two devices after syncing?
When I restored the iPad 3 with the mini's backup I didn't factory reset the iPad 3 first. Could this have affected the storage allocation?
All syncing, restoring and backup was done using a USB cable to a Windows 7 PC running iTunes for both devices.

You got these photo's on them by synci'ing in iTunes, correct?  If so, they get optimized for each device based on the screen size and resolution.  The iPad 3 can display much larger images, and those larger images have larger file sizes.
The number of music files and such should be the same between them though, if you sync'd the same sets to both.

  • My ipad says storage full what do l do after accessing settings

My ipad says storage almost full what do l do after going to settings?

    Hello  Viv Holt100,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I am glad to help you.
What to do if your storage is almost full:
    Method 1:
Go to settings>General>Usage>Show all apps. Now you can see all the apps that hog up your space. To delete apps for there, click the app you want to delete, and click "Delete app"
    Method 2:
Delete unnecessary photos. These always mud up my space. And I have a lot of useless photos. If you have a lot of photos, do a cleanup and lookmaround and start deleting some. This indeed gives me space, as I only have 16GB and your iPad loses 4 GB automatically. So technically it is 12... Thanks Apple...
Those are some helpful tips for you to use. Hope I helped!

  • Will iPad gain storage capacity when iCloud is started?

I have not been able to find a "solid" answer regarding the impact of iCloud on my iPad's storage capacity.  For example, my Music Library totals 2GB.  If I initiate iCloud, does that 2GB transfer to iCloud and free up 2GB on my iPad for Movies, Apps, or more Music...? Or does it transfer to iCloud with no change to my iPad capacity?  Thank you for your time and energy on this.  Look forward to hearing any feedback.........

iCloud will make any purchases you have made on iTunes available to all your devices.
I think you are talking about iTunes Match, that makes all your music library available to all your devices. However, it downloads any selected music to your device, it does not stream it.  In addition, any local content you have already stored on your iPad will not be affected, i.e. it will still take up the 2Gb unless you delete it locally and then re-download it when you want to listen.
So, the short term answer is, yes, it will free up your 2Gb IF you delete it locally, but whenever you listen to any music from the Cloud, it will start to claw back that space until you delete it again.

    1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
    2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
    3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
    4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

  • I ran out of power while partitioning, now 300GB of space is "missing"

Okay, so I was attempting to increase my windows partition by creating an image, reformatting, then moving the image back into the partition.
However, whilst trying to remove and recreate the partition, my battery died, and it stopped with the progress bar of creating my new 300GB partition somewhere in the middle.
Now, I've rebooted, and 300GB of space is missing from my hard drive, could someone please help me get this back?
    Thanks muchly!

    Hi,
normally the best way to remove a BootCamp Windows partition is to use the BootCamp Assistant again which should give you the option to remove the made Windows partition and revert back to one OSX volume.
After that's done a reboot of your Mac might be advisable. After the reboot you can use the BootCamp Assistant again to make a new Windows partition and then install Windows again.
Only if that's not working (whatever the reason) :
    1) boot your Mac from your OSX install DVD
    2) choose your language and then 'ignore' (cancel) the installation
    3) from the Top Menu (Utilities) start Disk Utility (DU)
    4) in DU click on your harddisk (not any partition) in the left pane (the first item listed)
    5) in the right pane use the 'Partition'-Tab
    6) click to highlight on the ex-Windows partition you want to delete
    7) click on the small '-' Button at the bottom
That should delete your former Windows partition
    After that's done successfully
    8) Drag the partition separator line until it encompasses the entire drive and then select apply.
    9) Quit Disk Utility
    10) reboot your Mac from your harddisk.
Most likely you only have one partition showing, your OSX one, since the partitioning itself went wrong.
So some steps can therefor be skipped.
Since you are 'fumbling' with your OSX partition you should consider having/making a backup of it before trying the a.m. procedure. Just in case.
    Regards
    Stefan
