IPad speakers

My iPad speakers aren't working but can hear through headphones, any suggestions?

Based on posts here and in other parts of the Discussions, that is a long-standing problem with FaceTime itself, whether on a Mac or an iPad. I don't think there is anything wrong with your iPad or how you use it. It's something wrong with FaceTime and not at your end.
There are yards of complaints about the lost sound issue here:

  • IPAD Speakers not working properly after iOS 7 update

Hi all... After updating iOS 7 my iPAD speakers are producing an horrible noise whenever I listen to music and while using skype it's really intolerable.. Can anyone help me to get rid of this?? Even while hearing songs through headset its producing d same noise.

    Quite frustrating
Sounds are either non existent, or sound like they're going through a distortion pedal.
Tried a hard reset, and will likely attempt a clean install/restore next...
    Ugh...  Apple...!!!

  • My iPad speakers are sounding weird

I was watching something on YouTube then after I left my iPad for about half an hour or so, and when I came back and watched videos, my iPad speaker was sounding weird! I checked my songs and alert ringtones and other things that makes noise, but my iPad speakers keep making this bubbly/robotic sound! No matter what I do! And then I inserted headphones into my iPad and it sounded perfectly fine! I got this iPad sometimes in December and I take real good care of it! However I still don't know what's wrong. I'm very scared and confused :(
Sorry I keep typing iPad, it's actually an iPad mini

    Try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Try doing a hard reset: Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears. If that doesn't solve the issue, you could also try backing up the device and restoring the device as new. If that doesn't solve the issue, the device may need service.
    Follow the steps in: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.

  • Ipad speakers not clear after ios 7 update!

i update my ipad 2 wifi to ios 7 on sep. 18..... and after that update my ipad speakers are not clear at all....pls help.... will rate it for sure........any help will be appreciated!

I do not know if it's iOS7 related or not. My 2 is still working. However, my first 2 was returned to best buy after the charging port on it died. So that can happen. ANd it happens with little to no warning. CHarges monday, doesn't on tuesday.
As far as I know the issues with 'unsigned' lightning devices is just the cable, not the power brick, but there's no official word (nor do I expect one)
Lightning cables have a little chip in them and if that chip isn't signed by Apple then your device kicks up an error but should still work.
However since this is an iPad 2, that's not the case since 2's use 30 pin chargers, not lightning.
Usually when a 2 doesn't charge, common troubleshooting is to swap out the charger, cable and outlet, to confirm or rule those out. Also to do the reset. (the soft reset that's holding down the sleep and home keys until it reboots). Also to look in and blow out the port in case there's some lint or such in there.
Usually those things fixes it. If not, then it could be the port.

  • Sound not working on ipad speakers, shows headphones and no headphone is plugged in.

My sound is not working on my ipad2 speakers.  when I adjust the sound button it shows headphones, I have no headphone installed.  I tried reseting the ipad (turned off and on), reset with itunes, updated os.

    Hello,
As per the information you have provided it appears that the audio port has been damaged. Make sure that there is no issues with the port, if there is no damage on the ports, you can get the iPad replaced under warranty.
Resetting and restore would not work as this mostly appears to be a hardware failure.
    Thanks and regards

  • My iPads speakers are making wierd noises

the sound on my iPad has been acting weird, making a robotic and scratchy sound to every noise which comes out of my iPads built in speakers. It has been happening for a few months but sometimes it would work than a few days/weeks later it would go weird again, I got my iPad replaced 3 times (for other reasons) but the issue is on all iPads, I have tried restarting it but all it does is turn the sound completely off, I even reset the iPad yet nothing happened. I have an iPad 2 newest version it does it with and without the cover, all games, music, sound have the same issue. My warranty has expired a few days ago so I will not get it replaced. Thanks if you can answer my question.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • Ipad speakers/sound and syncing issues

So my ipad 2 started acting up, first with the sound then with syncing.  The sound would not work when I played songs, video or anything else.  When I attempted to adjust the volume with the buttons on the side of the ipad the icon on the screen was labeled "ringer" and had no effect on the sound.  The speakers are fine because when I went to the settings menu and adjust the sound there, the ringer began to play.  I just couldn't get any other sound out of it.
I figured syncing my ipad might fix the problem, but when I hooked it up to my mac the ipad didn't show up in my itunes at all.  The ipad made the sound indicating it was charging and it did charge, but won't show up in itunes.
After that I tried resetting the ipad completely but it still will not show up in itunes.  I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling ituens on my mac in hopes that would solve the problem, but no luck.
I'm planning on taking it to the apple store in hopes they can solve the problem, but figured I'd give this a shot too.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try a reset. Press & hold the Power and Home buttons together for 10+ seconds, ignoring the red power-off slider, until you see the Apple logo.

  • IPad speakers not working correctly

I've been playing music on my iPad and whenever the bass comes on it begins to crackle. My EQ settings are off, but I changed it to spoken word and it still crackles. Are my speakers going out, and  if so, what should I do? It is only 1 year old. Thanks!

  • My iPad Speakers Are Fuzzy when loud noises are played

Just yesterday I had discovered that my speakers were acting all fuzzy when the volume is over half and noises are played.
It sounds like I recorded a video running around in the wind. I doubt my speakers blasted. But for sure It was not from dropping my iPad.
IS it time for me to go ask for a repair?
    IPad Gen 2

    Had for about 3 years

There is a mechanical switch in the iPad headphone jack, this is how the iPad knows headphones are plugged in,
Insert and remove the headphones several times.
Inspect the jack, any visible debris?
Try blowing the jack out with compressed air.

  • I cannot get music to play on iPad speakers

I just purchased a used iPad. 3rd gen. I cannot get music downloaded from my iTunes account to play on the  speakers. Siri works. Sound on alerts works. But nothing from music I have downloaded. What is more confusing is volume buttons don't do anything and no sound bar appears in the control center. Thoughts?

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iDevice?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • HT4437 No sound on iPad speakers.

Ipad doesn't appear on AirPlay menu, only Apple TV and Dock Connector. There is no sound on speakers. How I can solve that?

    I found the solution...
It is probably your docking port needs cleaned.
I carry myiPad in neophrene sleeve an old military canvas medic bag that I use as a messenger bag.  The other day I had tossed a pear in the bag in a small plastic sack for my lunch and headed off to the park to enjoy an afternoon of girl watching at the Pathenon area in Nashville (gotta love Vandy and warm days).  Anyhow, I had been busy chatting with a few friends who showed up to do some rollerblading and completely forgot about the pear and by the time I got home it had split open from my keys tossed in my bag and had mushed out all over, including through the neoprene and onto my iPad's smart cover.
Now at first I thought no biggie.  It didn't damage my iPad and only got the cover damp which I cleaned when I got home and left to dry.  But then I noticed my volume would come and go and my volume buttons didn't work anymore.  I could not get any external sounds except notification event like incoming email to work at all.  Yet when I tried my headphones, they worked le a charm and I could hear everything.
At first I figured it was OS related so I wiped my iPad and restored from iCloud, but after the restore the volume issue persisted.  So then I wiped my iPad and started from a clean slate, but the volume issue followed.  So now I decided to Google the issue.  I read some forum responses and saw others with the same issue so I figured it might be a defect and would have to send it back to Apple for repairs... But darnit I use my iPad daily and can't be apart from my Precioussss.
So I started playing with it, figuring it was going to Apple anyhow, why not try to fix it first.  So I examined the rocker arm on the side and it moves freely and doesn't seem to be stuck or anything.  Then I checked the settings and function of the lock slide which made no difference.  And then I examined the docking port and couldn't see in it well so I put the iPad under my desk light and got out my jeweler glasses I use when cleaning my service pistol... eureka!
Deep in the charging port it looked like it was fouled and had some lint and debris sticking to what looked like some sticky substance... Yep, pear juice.
So I grabbed a micro-circuit chip puller (looks basically like a professional metal dental pick) that I had picked up at my local hardware store (Harbor Freight) for about 2 bucks.  I usually use it for cleaning the firing pin area and hard to reach areas of my Sig after range time, and I figured it looked small enough to get down in the docking port.  So I used the hook end and carefully removed most of the debris from inside the port and then scraped most of the sticky out.  Then I took a synthetic cloth patch from my gun cleaning kit and grabbed a bottle of contact cleaner and got the patch damp (rubbing alcohol should work if you don't have contact cleaner) and I used the pick tool again to push the synthetic patch down into the port and carefully under the plastic contact prong in the port, back and forth to remove the rest of the sticky residue.  Finally I took a copper brush (again from my gun cleaning kit... You can buy the brushes separate at Bass Pro, Academy Sports, and sometimes the sporting goods section of Wal-Mart) and used the small single row end of bristles to shine the contacts and knock loose and out anything that might be left (basically use it like a toothbrush and brush the port... And no, a toothbrushes nylon bristles probably aren't stiff enough. Copper brushes work best on contact points).
And after cleaning the docking port... MY SOUND IS BACK AND WORKING PROPERLY!  The volume control works again, I have my happy key clicks while typing, the whole nine yards.
    So think docking port.
