Ipad Storage space, incorrectly using iCloud?

I have an iPad mini and I keep getting notices about my storage being used up. When i go to settings and check the usage it shows 11.9GB are being used by my photos. I have less than 30 pics saved on the actual device and everything else on my iCloud. but in the settings I also show I have 5GB of 5GB available for storage space. I don't understand!! When I am on my device and in the pictures app I see the cloud that says "shared" beneath it. All my pictures are there. Is this not the cloud? When I select a picture and select "iCloud" it sends it to whichever album I have selected in the shared space. Is this not the iCloud? What am I doing wrong!?

Any photos that you can see on your iPad are stored on your iPad, even if they are also stored in iCloud.  This is done to allow you to be able to access them when you are in locations where you can't connect to the internet.  In other words, adding the photos to a shared stream will not keep them from also being stored on your iPad.  This is likely change later this fall with the introduction of iOS 8 and iCloud Photo Library (see https://www.apple.com/icloud/preview/).

  • HT4914 I have 25 GB of songs on my Ipod. I want to buy an IPAD. If I use ICloud to sync my music, will the IPAD use 25 gigs of space? I am trying to decide which I pad to get and 32 Gigs would be plenty, if the 25 gigs already on my Ipod do not count.

I own an Ipod with 27 GB of music. I am considering an Ipad. If I use ICloud to sync my devices, will the new Ipad use 27 GB? The answer to this question will affect which GB size Ipad that I buy. Thanks!

If you put the music on the ipad, then it will use the space.

In addition to the very sound and useful information posted by Lawrence Finch, there is also a way to save the photos from the photo stream to the camera roll on the iPad so that even if the photo stream is turned off, the photos will remain on the iPad.
Launch the photos app and them open the Photo Stream album. Select every photo that you want to save by tapping on them, then tap in the action/sharing icon and select  - Save to Camera Roll.
Having said that, the information that Lawrence shared with you is very important and the instructions in both articles are very useful. Make use of them.

  • ICloud photo library and iPhone/iPad storage space

    Hi,
I use iCloud photo library beta for some time and it's a great feature for apple product. However, I'm a bit worried about what happend after some time. Now I have 20Gb of storage in iCLoud and 16Gb iPhone 6 and iPad air 2. On both of them is the "optimize iPhone/iPad storage" checked. What will happen after I would put 20Gb of photos to the iCloud and the iPhone and iPad wouldn't have enough storage to handle them (even when the photos are optimize)?
Thanks for any response or a link where it is discussed,
    Jakub

    Hi jakudo,
"optimize iPad/iPhone storage" means that photos don't have to take any storage capacity of your devices, if you are using your devices storage capacity e.g. for other content like music, apps etc. Your photos will be stored in the cloud and only a some of them are stored locally as long as you have storage space available. The only thing you have to do, is upgrading for more storage as soon as your passing the 20 GB.
    With kind regards,
    David

  • Phone storage space while using Photos

I use the new Photos app and Photo Library on my 6 Plus and its great. But I'm wondering if it is normal that even though I upload all my pictures to Photo Library and I pay monthly for extra storage, then why does it still count towards my actual iPhone storage (non-cloud, I'm referring to). I have all these pictures in the cloud and I have turned on the optimize storage option, but still on my phone all my photos takes up more than 2GB of HD space. To me, iCloud and Photo Library seems pretty useless if it is taking up all this HD space on my iPhone. Yes, I know that the main purpose of the cloud is to back things up for safety, but the other HUGE importance is saving HD space by not having to save everything to your phone storage, iPad storage, etc.
Does anyone know of a way, if there even is one, where I can delete all the pics from my phone but still view them in the cloud/Photos app? Will that be a feature after the beta?

The way I read it - the current Yosemite IOS8 cloud is to allow  you to synchronize data between all of you I devices.   So If you want to not synchronize something you would drag it off the Cloud onto your desktop to an non-synchronized folder and it would be deleted off all devices.
Point of the Icloud seems to be you can have the information off-line (plus for a salesman or contractor wanting to show items/drawings/ in an area where their carrier does not have coverage (happens in the US) .
IOS 8 manuals are available in PDF (or were) and can be downloaded and printed if so desired.

  • Why is my iPad storage space filling up when transferring purchases to iTunes?

    Hi there,
    Hopefully somebody can help.
I recently bought an iPad & it's been great, but I noticed when I was Transferring my purchases from my Pad to my Mac, my iPads disk space starting filling up under the 'Other' catagory.
Why is it doing it? Surely it shouldn't be putting anything on to my Pad?
Now my storage space is almost full, but I have nothing on my iPad that wasn't there before.
    Thanks for your time.
    Paul

Okay, first thing is to look at all your iTunest tab settings like music, movies, podcasts, etc... to make sure you don't have it set to automatically download new content onto the iPad.  If so, anything you've purchased on your computer will then turn around and try to load itself onto your iPad.
The next thing would be to do a restore to factory settings and then re-sync using your most recent backup, assuming you have a good backup.  Once in a blue moon the data on the iPad can get corrupt somehow and give all kinds of false readings on how much memory is being used, etc...  The restore usually fixes it.
    Best.

  • Free iPhone space automatically using iCloud

Can iCloud delete photos and videos from iPhone automatically after being uploaded to save storage space on iPhone? It would be great to have that functionality such as iPhoto or dropbox.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can't upload movies to iCloud.
If you purchased the movies from iTunes, you can delete them from your device and re-download them at a future time when you want them.

  • "Missing" 4GB+ of previous iPad storage space

A couple of us have noticed that after restoring our "New" iPads from iPad 2 backups about 4GB+ of previously storage space has disappeared.  Anybody else seeing this?  If so, does anyone know what happened to it?  New app requirements, perhaps?  Just curious.

The apps that have been enhanced for the retina display are signifcantly larger.

  • How come Photostream uses 734Mb of my iPad storage space, when Photostream is disabled, and there are no photos on the iPad?

I recently disabled Photo-stream on all my iOS devices, because I import them manually anyway, and the logic in Photostream simply did not catch on with me.
On my iPad, no matter that I stopped any photos from syncing to it from iPhoto, and got a completely blank photos archive on the iPad, it still claims under "usage", that I use 111Mb on my Photo Library, and a whopping 737Mb on Photostream.
Since this iPad is completely photo-free, it is a great annoyance that it still reserves 848Mb of space for photos. My available space on the iPad is 1.2Gb, and I have trouble updating some apps because of the missing empty.
I don't want to delete apps, when there is actually enough space, but Apple simply wont let me administer my space. I tried swiping right over "Photostream" and choose "Delete", but nothing happens from this.
And BTW, I did disable Photostream from all my iOS devices, and my iMac.

I also have this exact same problem - 35 photos taking up 1.5gb!
seems like a strange coincidence... and no Matt - this is not the Photo Stream - that is 258mb
with only a 16gb phone this is a substantial chunk of my storage.
anyone have a real explanation for this??
