Ipad strangely stops charging or is it charging?

It seems after an update I performed through itunes a few days ago, my ipad won't indicate it is mounted to a power source or my computer.
Even though it never indicates in the battery indicator that is is mounted or makes its beeping noise when I plug it in.
I have rebooted, hard reset and tried a variety of cables oem and non-oem to get it to act normal.
Please advise?

I am having the same EXACT issue. After an update the other day, the oem charging cable does not indicate it has mounted. It aslo DOES NOT MOUNT TO Itunes. I have an appointment on Sunday to have Apple look at this, but I cannot believe they have not rolled out a fix for this. I wish I could revert back to the OS before this update GRRR! Time out of my life wasted at the Apple store, there is only one here in Charlotte, NC and it is always to crowded. I want to reset it but I can't get it to mount in order to backup my data! HELP? APPLE?

I bought a iPad Mini less than 2 months ago, several occasion my iPad Mini stop charging when it reaches 82%, sometime 91%, got both my adaptor & set replaced, but the problem still persist, the third time I sent it, they can't detect the problem and told me they can't do anything, I'm rather upset, nothing they can do to help

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon. The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Do NOT use a computer's USB port.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • IPad retina stopped charging with old lightning cable

I have been hearing that iPads will only charge with Apple approved chargers and cables.  Well, after the most receive iOS update, iPad and iPhone 5S have stopped charing with Apple lightning cable that came with an iPad 4th Gen.  Anyone else seeing this?

Thank you for the fast reply.
The "rest of the story" is that the same problem persists with two of the older cables while the one that came with the iPadRet works well.  The old cables are not charging using USB ports on a MBPro nor with the wall warts that came with the cables / iPads.  How strange.
Yes, the cables may be bad.  I'll test them when I get home.  It is odd that the two cables stopped working immediately after the iOS updates.  How's that for coincidence!

  • My ipad 3 stopped charging, not the adapter and reboot doesn't do anything.  I've tried all the tricks and different adapters and now my nearest Apple store is saying it just doesn't work and it'll be $300 to replace.  Only had it 1 yr and half.

My ipad 3 suddenly stopped charging last week.  I've tried different adapters, to no avail.  I didn't drop it or spill anything on it.  I don't have tons of apps, so plenty of memory.  My husband took it to the Apple store for me and they tried charging it too even though I knew that wasn't the problem and then said it wasn't working (no kidding) and then told him it would be $300 to replace.  Seeing as I've only had it for a year and a half and it cost more than twice that to begin with, I'm a little ticked that it stops charging, a problem I know is very common according the all the message boards and they want to charge me $300.  I've always heard that Apple was so good to it's customers, but my iphone has been a nightmare, and now my ipad won't charge.  Also, I've tried the reset options I've read about and none worked.  Sorry, just really upset.  I thought I was paying all this money for better quality and now I feel foolish for having done so.  Anybody with any ideas I, or the genius at Apple haven't thought of?  Help is appreciated.  Thanks.

May be some help on one of these links.
Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • Help my ipad has stopped charging, it does charge but very very slowly, like 1% an hour

My ipad has suddenly stopped charging, I've tried different leads and plugs but nothings working

How are you charging it? It's charged best with its supplied power brick plugged into the wall. If it's a full sized iPad they do not charge well off USB ports.
If you're doing that, try giving your iPad  a rest. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
If the issue persists, swap out the power brick, cord, outlet to confirm or rule out those parts as being the issue. If it continues beyond that then you may have something wrong with your iPad and you should make an appointment at your local apple store to have them check it out.

  • Ipad has stopped charging properly

My Ipad has always charged really quickly. I am using an apple plug & wire not an imitation. I tried a new wire & that is the same (again a genuine apple product) both wires charge my iPhone 5s really quickly & previously i have found the same with my ipad but since the last update it's just like it is draining too quickly. Even being charged overnight it only charges to around 50 - 70%. Put it in airplane mode to charge it quicker because i read it helps but that only got it to around 90% overnight. I have tried everything i can & haven't downloaded anything new & have stopped everything running to see if it's an app causing the problem. Please can anyone help. I have tried to chat to someone from apple but it's asking for £25 which i think is disgusting with how much my ipad cost me.

sometimes it can be little things like notifications - settings>notification center - go to include section and anything internet related click on the icon for the app - and turn off show in notification center - these things may possibly be trying to connect to internet several times a day looking for stuff to notify you about - make sure that you quit out apps which it sounds like you do - double tap home and swipe up on the windows - make sure bluetooth is off when not in use - a bad wifi connection can overwork it too

  • HT4060 My ipad has stopped charging

I was at my friends house and my iPad would not charge but they were having power surges so I put it down to that. The next morning I went to my grandma and grandad's where I also toyed to charge my iPad but then I realised there was either something wrong with my iPad or the charger I've been researching and I've found a quote saying that you shouldn't leave your iPad on charge through the night I was not aware of this and I have reason to think that, that could be the fault.

    Troubleshoot
    1. Try a reset
    2. Clean docking port with clean tooth brush
    3. Try another wall socket
    4. Try another cable (make sure it's an original Apple cable)
    5. Try another charger (make sure it's an original Apple charger)

  • There is a problem with the charging cable that wont let my iPad charge. it is probably the little usb thingy. it does charge when it is out of power, but as soon as it turns on it stops charging. anyone got a fix for it? mail me at simenrognli@hotmail.no

My chargers little USB port probably is the fail. it lets my ipad charge only when it is completely out of power, but as soon as it turns on, it stops charging. Any tips on what i can do? The charger is new and has worked until today. i cant bring it to the store because it was bought in my neighbour country Sweden. Thanks in advance.

    - Try another cable.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. You can still go if your country has Genius Bars
