  • Can't make ipad sync apps to new computer's iTunes

I have a slightly strange problem. In Sept 2012, I got a MacBook to replace a Windows laptop. I transferred all my itunes music across and used 'transfer purchases' from my Ipod Touch to transfer all the apps to the itunes on the mac so I could keep all my apps. I then ticked the 'sync apps' box, and synced and everything works wonderfully, all my apps are still there etc and I can download them from the app store etc on the ipod.
However, when I did this with my iPad 2, it never changed from syncing with the old laptop. Under iTunes wifi sync on the ipad, music, movies, podcasts, books and tones are synced with the new macbook, and for some reason apps, itunes U and movies are synced with my old laptop. I can't download any new apps or music on the ipad from the itunes app/appstore app either (the buttons just don't do anything). Nor can I seem to, no matter how hard I try, make the ipad sync apps with the new macbook. The apps themselves work just as they ever used to.
I understand with itunes 11 the 'sync apps' button has gone, so I tried transferring purchases and then syncing, to no avail. All my apps show up in the corect position under the 'apps' tab, but they just won't sync.
I have some access to the old laptop, but it is 200 miles away and I can't access it for several weeks at least. There's nothing in the apps themselves that is absolutely vital for me to keep (although obviously it'd be annoying to lose all the data stored in them, such as game saves).
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Pippa
Edit: Strangely, I can now get it to delete apps, by deleting them from the apps tab on iTunes, it goes all the way through the sync, but finds an app to sync (generally just one), gets halfway through that then cancels the sync. However, it has deleted the app I selected for deletion from the ipad. I still can't downalod anything from the itunes app.

Oddly, I've now (through repeatedly trying to sync the ipad) got the apps to now sync to my ipad according to thw wifi sync menu on the ipad. However, the sync still cancels halfways through. It attemps to sync between 1-20 songs that aren't on my ipad (cause it hasn't been syncing) and then gives up and "cancelling sync" appears.
Each time the number of songs left to sync is fewer and fewer, but I can't deal with an ipad that can only sync 5 songs per sync cycle. There's no reason given as to why it cancelled the sync, and none of the apps sync.

  • IPad syncing problem - HELP!

iPad sync problem - HELP!  I keep getting this message "...cannot be synced because there is not enough free space to hold all of the items in the iTunes library (additional ...space needed)"  and yet I seem to have plenty of space on the iPad.  This just started today.  I even tried deleting some things to make even more room, but it didn't help.  Any ideas???
I was thinking of restoring, but I've never done it...  should I?
    thank you!

  • IPad syncing apps to old library, everything else to new library

This has me puzzled and I've not been able to find a definitive answer.
I used to sync my iPad to my MacBook Air, but recently transfered my library over to a Mac Mini (authorised, same Apple ID etc). This appeared to be working fine, but I've just noticed that my iPad appears to have split where it syncs now, syncing apps from my Air and books, movies, music, photos and tones from my Mini.
I've popped a link to a screenshot below to explain what I mean (Lilburne is my Air, Dickon is my Mini)
In iTunes on the Mini I can't see any way to force apps to sync from there - there's no 'sync apps' checkbox in there.
I've got the same situation with my iPhone 5 too. Bizarre! I'd appreciate any help to find the probably foolish thing I've either done or not noticed!
    Thank you :)

    Thanks Griff
I've checked out those steps and it doesn't really answer the issue - this isn't a problem with WiFi syncing (although that is really flakey I've found!), more a problem that part of my content on my phone is syncing from my new computer, but apps are still listed as syncing from my old computer on my iOS devices.
It's not a dramatic problem as obviously I can manage app updates / deletions / installations on the iOS devices directly anyway, but it's an odd one.
I do still have the Macbook Air I used to sync my devices to, but have removed the iTunes content from it.

  • New iPhone - Enabling Sync Apps Help after having an old iPod Touch that was overloaded

I had an iPod Touch and it was overloaded with apps. So when I got the new iPhone I decided to start fresh and didn't sync it with iTunes immediately. I have about 50 apps on my iPhone that I actually want, and there are atleast 200 others on my iTunes that I don't want or need.  When I plug in my iPhone and go to the apps tab on my iPhone, the sync apps isn't checked.  If I check it it deletes all my apps on the preview window on the right, and none of the apps are checked.  So I deleted all the apps on my computer and transfered purchases so i only had the ones that are on my iPhone.  Now when I check sync apps, if i check all the apps, they are not in the right spots.  I can move them later, but my real concern is whether or not it will delete anything I have done in the app like game progress.  Any help would be great.  Thanks

  • IPad notes app HELP

    Hello everyone,
I just recently got an iPad and I use notes all day long with my work. I wanted to know if there is any app or way I can sync notes like on a exhange server between two separate ipads. For example, I update a note on my iPad and a co-worker can view the same note on his iPad/iPhone? Please if anyone has any idea how to do this it would be great. I appreciate all support.
    Thanks!

I think you can do it via a GMail exchange account. Notes is listed as a sync item in the exchange setting on the iPad. However, I know there are apps like EverNote and OneNote that do sync their own items.

  • Ipad + Kobo app HELP!

I purchased the Ipad yesterday and it was going great until I went to add the Kobo app to download my already purchased books. The app itself downloads fine, I sign into my Kobo account and...none of my books show up.
Am I doing something wrong? I have search all over google for someone having the same problem and I cannot seam to find a solution. I have tried converting my books to epub and loading them into ibook, they show up there but they cannot open due to the type of format.
Anyone have any suggestions or solutions?
    Thanks!

I have tried contacting them and they have not been helpful. I have sent them 2 messages and they haven't gotten back to me also.
I have now been able to get most (not all) of the books to show up in my Library on the Kobo app - however they won't allow me to open them. Even the free books the app comes preloaded with won't open - it says the formats are incompatible. I have deleted and reloaded the Kobo app at least 4 times.

  • IPad iBook app help

Ipreordered a  on book that is now available. I tried to download it into my iBook app and it's stuck. Pause

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

Reset your iPad and see if that helps.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • HT4236 tring to sync photos from my pc to ipad but it says "ITune cannot sync apps to the Ipad "user's Ipad" because the apps installed on the Ipad could not be determined.  I don't know what that means.  Can anyone help?

    I'm sorry about your loss.
Are you trying to recover data from this iPad, or to set it up as new (erase everything on it, and simply use the iPad as if it were brand new as your new iPad)?
If the latter, you can place the iPad into recovery mode as shown here.  You may have to try this several times:
iOS: Unable to update or restore

  • The ipad music app does not allow me to play certain tracks that i have synced via my itunes. The tracks are clearly visibly in the music app but when tap on them to play they wont play. help and advice will be much appreciated

The ipad music app does not allow me to play certain tracks that i have synced via my itunes. The tracks are clearly visibly in the music app but when tap on them to play they wont play. what do i do?

Agree about the disaster part. I haven't found a fix within iTunes.
I gave up and switched to downcast 2 days ago. Even though it was a hassle to re-subscribe to all my podcasts, im so much happier.
To make switching easier, I found that in iTunes you can "get info" on the podcast and copy the RSS address to the clipboard. Put all of these in a message note. When iCloud syncs the note to your phone, you can copy and paste the urls into downcast one at a time to subscribe.
Downcast has crashed on me occassionally when I'm subscribing to feeds, but so far it has recovered gracefully each time and no data was lost.

  • ITunes insists on rearranging my iPad apps, even with 'Sync apps' unchecked

Here's an issue which I've noticed crop up on a few other forums, but which there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer for.  I'm hoping that one of the veterens on this forum might have come across it and figured out a fix...
Since iCloud launched, I've not had any need to use iTunes for any app, music, video, podcast or book syncing. I have automatic downloading enabled on both my iPad and iPhone, and that's worked very well.  Download something on one device, and it appears on the other. Wireless backup to iCloud too. All good.
There's just one thing I do still rely on iTunes for - and that's syncing photo albums and events created on my Mac in iPhoto to my iPad.  I'm hopeful that at some point Apple will enable iCloud syncing for iPhoto albums (especially seeing as iPhoto is now available for iOS), but for now I'm stuck with using iTunes to move new albums and events to my iPad.
Here's the thing. Given I have automatic iCloud downloading enabled for pretty much everything, I have the following sync options turned off in iTunes:
    Info
    Apps
    Tones
    Music
    Movies
    TV Shows
    Podcasts
    Books
The only item that is checked is Photos.
So once I'm ready to sync a newly created iPhoto album or event to my iPad, I fire up iTunes, select my iPad in the devices list, make sure that the new album/event is checked under the Photos tab, make absolutely sure all other sync options are unchecked, then I hit the sync button.
And about half the time, this will go well.  And the other half... well, disaster. iTunes will decide that it doesn't like my iPad apps arranged in the order I have them, and will rip them from their folders and scatter them across a ton of homescreens. The result is about an hours worth of work to get them all back in place again, just so I can enjoy having my latest photo album on my iPad.
I can't figure out why this happens.  When I have app syncing unchecked, I'm specifically telling iTunes to leave my apps well alone.  I have no interest in syncing apps to/from iTunes and my iPad. iCloud takes care of this for me now, and I have no reason to even have a copy of an app on my Mac. I can't do anything with it once it's on there.
Has anyone come up against this issue and found a fix?
Alternatively, and perhaps preferably, is there another way to move albums and events created in iPhoto to my iPad, without using iTunes? I know iTunes wants to be the be-all-and-end-all of syncing beasts, but now I have iCloud I have no use for it aside from photo syncing.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help here!

I'm starting to think that the lack of replies is due to the fact that nobody actually knows why this behaviour is, including Apple themselves.

  • How to sync iPad with apps for 1st time to iTunes?

    Hi -
Can't find the answer to this question directly, hence posting it here.
My nephew's iPad has many apps , and photos, and he has never synced it to iTunes. He want's me to help him. I'm reasonably familiar with both iPad and iTunes.
However - I'm worried that when he connects to iTunes for the 1st time he will have the iPad wiped clean by the empty iTunes session.
I have searched high and low but can't find a reassuring set of steps to follow.
Hence I would be very grateful to anyone who can point to complete, thorough online instructions, or offer them yourself, on what _precisely_ I must do to get his iPad synced to a new iTunes session for the very first time, without loosing the iPad content.
We need to upgrade the OS badly (its the OS released from the shop purchase).
thanks, for what is probably a question asked with a thoursand variations.
    Kind regards,
    Kevin Nolan,
    Dublin, Ireland.
PS: Apple - if you readt this - iTunes and syncing is a very tricky to handle, with potential dire consequences if you do it wrong even once. At a minimum, please offer greater felxibility and more detailed tutorials across various troubleshooting scenarios such as mine

Thank you both for your time and responses
roaminggnome - my nephew was 10 when he got it and his family are not particularly computer savy. It didn't occur to them that syncing was such a priority. Thanks for the pointer to Apple feedback - I'll post my suggestion to them (I'm sure they've received it many times before!)
Demo - that other thread looks absolutley excellent and your detailed instructions there look spot on - thank you.
Thanks to you both again - genuinely appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Kevin.

  • How do I delete all or multiple synced apps from iTunes where the app has already been removed from iPad?

I have recently purchased the latest iPad and been trying lots of apps.  These apps are synced with iTunes on a regular basis.  I want to delete synced apps from my iTunes backup that I have removed from my iPad.
I am aware of a manual way of removing apps from the iTunes backup but it is far too painful and cumbersome.  You have to select the iPad under devices, click the apps tab up the top, and then see which items are not ticked (which runs very slow I might add, but it is a big list).  After noting them down, I then visit the apps section under library on the left, highlight all the unwanted apps, right click and delete.
Unless there is some special way of doing this that I am un aware of, it would be really helpful if the libary application view had a column which informed me which ones were still on my iPad.  I could then sort by that column, and then delete all the removed apps.

Yes, delete all the apps currently in iTunes, then transfer all the apps currently on the iPad back into iTunes. Of course it will take some time to sync the apps back into iTunes, but it satisfies your desire to remove all apps from iTunes that are not on your iPad without the need to laboriously note what is and is not there. In fact as a bonus after removing all the apps from iTunes you could open the ..\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications folder and delete any remaining orphaned files that might still be there, before you transfer purchases.
