IPad Sync/Backup:  includes Movies?

Greetings,
I recently upgraded my iPad's OS so that I would make use of the iCloud, Find My iPad, etc.  When I synced with iTunes to do this, iTunes automatically performed a backup, and then restored after the OS upgrade was complete.  I am now missing two movies that I purchased on the iPad thru the iTunes store.  Doesn't the iPad auto backup include movies? If not, will I have to pay for the movies again, or will the iTunes store give me that happy message "You've already purchased this item" and allow me to re-download it for free?
thanks so much!

Movies are not included in the iCloud backup and they cannot be downloaded again for free. You will have to purchase them again. You should continue to transfer purchases into iTunes on your computer.
Yes - you can now use the iPad without a computer - but you cannot save all of the content in iCloud. This will tell you what iCloud will backup and what you still need iTunes for.

Movie playlist in iTunes is not showing up on iPhone after manually managing syncing and including movies from playlist.

Thank you.  This solved my problem too.
But, one little thing to share:
"There's an option in settings for Playlists. It was set to Music only. Changed that to All then found the movie playlist under Movies by selecting Genre."
This is not to be done in iTunes in your computer; this is to be done at your apple TV under "setting". "audio video" "show playlist" "music only/all"
I am posting this here because I started chat mode with Apple support last night at midnight till 1:30, they didn't know what to do.
They called me back this morning at 10 am.
    It's not 11:40 they finally know what I am talking about and showed me where to to find the "music only / all" toggle.  My problem is now fixed;
all these time, they have in front of them a screen shot of your questions and answer but they don't know where to change it from music only to all.
So, I hope this will save the next victim a lot of time.
    Again, thank you.

  • When i want to update my ipad and i want to make backup does backup including apps

when i want to update my ipad and i want to make backup does backup including app

If you backup with iCloud only - yes your apps are included in the backup. If you backup and sync with iTunes - only your app data and documents, device settings and things like that are included in the backup.
So if you use iTunes only, you have to restore from the backup and then sync with iTunes. If you are going to update to iOS 5 now you should backup your iPad ... Or even iOS 6 when available on the 19th -  backup your iPad.

I get home after buying my ipad mini play with it for a bit then try to sync my songs, movies and photos on and it syncs fine. I then look back at the ipad and seem to find on the top right saying " not charging ". I read other forms and people also struggeling with the same problem. My computer dose'nt have enough power. There must be another way for me to get to charge my ipad mini from my computer. It works fine charging it in an outlet. any ideas??!

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • I am trying to transfer my movies (mp4 files) to my IPad, but they are not showing up on the IPad. I have 13 movies showing on my IPad that they are in ICloud. I've sync'd the movies I want to the IPad, but only one is showing under the "movies" folder. ?

I have been trying to transfer some different movies from my PC to my IPad, but they are not showing in the "movie" folder. I have sync'd the movies (these are mp4 files) that I wanted transfered, but only one is showing in the folder. There are 13 other movies in the folder that have the ICloud symbol in the corner of their picture. I understand that I can pull those movies from ICloud any time I want to watch them, but I want to watch the ones that I've just sync'd with my IPad. How do I find them? After I checked the movies I wanted, I "applied" them and watched it sync and copy the wanted movies to my IPad. Now what?  Thanks.

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

  • Can't sync movies to iPad; can't share movies on network

On the iPad (with retina display), when trying to watch movies shared from iTunes, after selecting the shared library, the circle spins for a while until failing with "Unable to turn on Home Sharing".  This started happening a lot recently, but I figured it wasn't that bad....I can just sync a few movies to the iPad, no problem, right? WRONG!!!!  I cannot sync movies to the iPad either.  iTunes just acts like it is doing something, then after a while it just stops acting like it's doing anything.  The movies never sync.  Also, if I deselct movies that are already there, they still do NOT get removed from the iPad.
You might ask how I got the movies there in the first place.  This happened once already and I reset the iPad.  I was able to watch one movie in my shared library before getting the "Unable to turn on Home Sharing", and I was able to sync 4 movies.  That was it though, and all attempts to watch shared movies or to sync movies now fail.  Funny thing is that when I reset the iPad I lost a lot of custom settings.  I only got movies on it for a day biut I've been configuring my erased settings for a week.  I have reset my account info for home sharing in the iPad multiple times.  I have reset the iPad.  As I said, resetting worked for a day or two.
    Any ideas?

    Hi, mtsak.
I would recommend transferring your purchases to your computer.  After the transfer is complete your media should be in your iTunes library.  If the indicator that your iPad will be erased appears, just sync the transferred media.  Only media purchased via iTunes with your Apple ID will transfer.  From there, you should be able to backup.

  • Cannot sync iTunes purchased movies to iPad 4/Apple TV

I'm getting sick and tired of iTunes issues that have been reported time and time again, but don't seem to get resolved.
Issue: I buy a film in either HD or SD from iTunes. I then try to sync said film to my iPad and I get the error that it cannot be sync'd as my iPad cannot play the movie. However, if I download the same purchase directly to the iPad, it plays without any issue whatsoever. This is also the case for my Apple TV (1st Gen).
Technical: iTunes version: 11.0.5, Mac: MacBook Pro (late 2008) with 8GB RAM running OSX 10.8.4, iTunes Library running on TimeCapsule (currently 680GB in size). iTunes manages locations and files.
S.I.V. (Sphincter Irritation Value): 9.6 (out of 10) - this issue costs me a fortune in lost monthly download allowance as I frequently end up downloading the same thing twice.

I belive the Apple TV (both current version and previous version) only have 8GB of cache, so this is less than what most people would have in even the basic iPad model (16GB).  But the Apple TV is designed for streaming from another source (iTunes server for rented movies, your Mac over iTunes sharing, Netflix server, etc.)  The iPad is designed for WiFi streaming but due to agreements with the cellular carriers, they don't want to host all of that bandwith for streaming movies over their data networks.  At least, not at this time.  Perhaps that will change with 4G?  Even so, that level of data use will probably be expensive.  It would be more economical to buy an iPad with more RAM next time (or trade up -- I sold my old iPad on Amazon for almost what I paid for it and got the model with more RAM).

  • IPad syncing issues, please help.

I know this is a long read, I appreciate you taking the time to follow the details to help me figure out what is happening with my iPad.
As a preface, I update the firmware to all my Apple software (including iTunes) and my MacBook OS (Snow Leopard) and my iDevices the day the updates come out, so all these issues occured with the current firmware.
A few weeks ago, I was syncing my iPad earlier to my MacBook via iTunes. The backing up step was going on for about 10 minutes and it only got 1/20 across the status / progress bar. I "X'd" out of that and just synced the rest of it without the backing up step.
Then I disconnected the device and reattached it. I went back and am re-syncing. The backing up step has been going for almost an hour and its only 1/5th across the progress bar. It is moving, but noticeably. If I put my mouse pointer icon on the end of the progress made so far, then come back and look at it 10 minutes later, it has made progress. So, it is backing up, but so incredibly slowly.
Anyone experience this before? Any idea what could be the cause or fix to this?
I left it for several more hours. In fact, I started the syncing around 6 pm, and went to bed around 11. It was only 3/4 to 4/5 done backing up by that point.
I left it overnight, and in the very early morning (6 or 7 am), it had the familiar and comforting "Sync Complete" message.
Still have no idea why it took so fookin long, or it it will happen again next time.
I don't think the problem is the issue pertaining to Zinio disrupting backups, as discussed here: http://imgs.zinio.com/faq/ipad.htm#backup because I already followed those steps.
Now, two nights ago, I updated the firmware. It only took a few minutes. I didn't notice until last night, some of my old movies that I handbrake'd into iTunes were no longer on my iPad. I had to go back into the Time Machine to retrieve them.
I re-synced the iPad. It took about 10 minutes doing step 1, backing up. However, it froze at about 95% complete. I thought it was just going slow again (last time was hours!), so I went to bed. I woke up this morning and it was still frozen. I ejected the iPad from the sidebar window and stopped the sync by clicking the little black "X" in the message window.
I shut down iTunes and restarted my MacBook. I re-synced and it skipped the Step 1, Backing Up and went in to Step 2. It completed the sync moving over the movies, but no photos or music.
I re-synced immediately afterward (after disconnecting and reconnecting the device) and got a message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad due to another syncing in process. It still synced and this time it moved about 256 photos. Not sure why- maybe I had "Sync recent 1000 events" or something checkmarked in the iTunes Sync window.
I re-synced again immediately afterward (also disconnecting and reconnecting first) and got the same message about iTunes not being able to back up my iPad. It still synced the rest of the sync process, but this time it moved about a dozen songs around. I don't know why I each time I sync it does different things and I get the error messages.
My iPad seems to be giving me issues with syncing, anyone have any idea what is going on or how to resolve it?
    Thanks!

    1. Some people have reported slow syncing with anything but the iPad's own USB cable (e.g. using a US cable from an iPhone/iPod). Try different cables
    2. More work - disable iTunes syncing completely, then re-enable a bit at a time, e.g. one movie at a time, one playlist at a time, one photo album at a time. There are periodic reports of syncing issues caused by a bit of media that's been corrupted, and this (tedious) approach allows you to identify where the problem might be.
    3. If that fails, do a clean restore back to factory settings, then progressively re-enable syncing as above.
    Hope this helps

  • One ipad syncing to two separate mac desktop PCs

Can i successfully sync an ipad to one mac desktop pc for say just moving photos and videos?
and then sync the same ipad to another pc where my iphone is synced so I can get all my iphone apps onto my soon to be purchased ipad and continue to sync to that second pc for backup purposes of all my apps?

From the way I read the information, you can manage music manually and sync to different computers. if you had an iPod Touch or an iPhone backed up to another computer with contacts, bookmarks, etc. I think that you can restore your iPad from one of those back ups to get that information onto your iPad and then manage your media manually to get that stuff back onto your iPad as well. *I have no experience with this*, but from what I've read, it is possible.
Here is an excerpt from the first article under Additional Information at the bottom.
*Issues may occur leading to data corruption or data loss if you regularly sync contacts, calendars, notes, or bookmarks between multiple computers using iTunes and your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Syncing once to move your data to a new computer should not cause these issues. See this article for more information.*
If the article states that "if you regularly sync contacts, calendars" .... etc., the inference is that it is be possible to do so.
Syncing to multiple computers as a practice - other than to sync music - is probably not a good practice. Doing it once or twice may be feasible. Without having done any of this myself, I don't see why you couldn't come up with a workaround - BUT - content would have to managed manually. However, I could be wrong!

  • Ipad sync failed to start

iPad 2 sync fails to start every time even when cabled to my Macbook Pro.  iPad 1 syncs without a problem to the same iTunes.  Sync communication begins on iTunes and the spinning arrows appear on the iPad but it nevery moves onto step 2.  I have tried deleting the backups but still have the same problem.  This is after several months so simple restart or disconnect and reconnect fixes it.
