IPad takes hours to sync photos

Hi all
When I first got my iPad in October, it synced all photos fine. I had loads of folders on there and could add new ones whenever I wanted to, quickly.
All of a sudden when I sync my iPad it optimizes every single photo and takes hours and hours to sync.
This is utterly ridiculous considering there are over 2000 photos, it does it for every one each time! How can I leave my iPad syncing for hours every single time I want to add new photos, why cant it just be like adding new music it takes a few seconds to add the new items!
I have searched and searched on internet forums for an answer and they all just say NO cant turn it off. So basically I cannot have photos on my iPad as the function is NOT efficient and fast like it used to be. I havent changed anything at all, all I want is my photos of my baby girl on my iPad.
Please someone help, there must be a way around this.
Thanks

This happened to me, and I found that the process was slow because I was using a separate hard drive (connected to my wireless modem) to store the photos on.
When I connected my pc directly to my wireless modem using a cable, then disabling wireless, I found the sync speed was much faster.

  • Why does it take hours to sync and backup a 12GB data?

Does anyone know why it takes hours and hours to just sync and backup my 16GB iPhone 3GS before it installs the iOS5? This is getting rediculous! Why do Apple force us to use iTunes?

Shouldn't take that long although waiting a long time in between syncs can create longer backup times...  ie more data, apps, etc... to back up etc...  Make sure both iPad and iTunes are most current versions.  Make sure you are using the iPad sync cord that came with the device and not another from a iPhone or iPod.  Cables can screw up the deal.
Start there first and let us know how it goes.

Do you have any better luck with that if you update to iTunes 10.6.1.7?
From the notes for the release:
iTunes 10.6.1 provides a number of improvements, including:
    • Fixes several issues that may cause iTunes to unexpectedly quit while playing videos, changing artwork size in Grid view and syncing photos to devices.
    • Addresses an issue where some iTunes interface elements are incorrectly described by VoiceOver and WindowEyes.
    • Fixes a problem where iTunes may become unresponsive while syncing iPod nano or iPod shuffle.
    • Resolves an ordering problem while browsing TV episodes in your iTunes library on Apple TV.

  • TS2634 ipad takes hours to recharge - why?

Why does it take so long for my iPad Retina to charge from 10% to 100%?

Are you using the iPad charger and not the iPhone charger or USB connection to your computer?
You may need to recalibrate the battery. See link below.
Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Ipod touch takes hours to sync

iTouch (v. 2.2) using iIunes (v. 8.0.2.20) takes several hours to sync. When reviewing the summary it actually "syncs" quickly but takes hours and hours to "backup."
    8mb (7.08 actual)
    4.83 Gb music
    2 Mb apps
    181 Mb other
    1.87 Gb free
Syncs calendars with outlook. "not older than 1 day"

    Hi tbarnardiii,
This could be a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPod is directly connected to a high seed USB 2 port and try the tips in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286
What apps are on your iPod touch? Try removing the apps and test syncing again.

  • My iPhone4 takes hours to sync with iTunes.

My iPhone4 used to sync in only a couple of minutes. Then it started taking several hours. The header in iTunes said it got to step 5 of 5 and was importing photos. I tried deleting all of the photos from the iPhone and the syncing problem went away. I checked to make sure all of the file extensions were the same and deleted the big files but when I put the photos back on the iPhone, the problem returned.

Delete the iPod photo cache, as described here:

  • Ipad Air won't sync photos

I have a Mac Pro tower running Mavericks (10.9.1).  Latest iTunes (11.1.3) and iPhoto (9.5.1).  New iPad air running 7.0.4
When I plug my iPad into synch my photo library (around 6500 pictures and 37GB) - my entire computer freezes after about 5 photos are transferrred.  I have tried:
    rebuilding my photo library
    updating permissions
    deleting iPod cache
    power cycling
    unchecking include videos
Changing sync from all photos to manual.  The problem persists with just one small album selected.  I get the spinning wheel that locks up my computer somewhere between the 5th and 10th image transferred even if the album only has 20 images total.
I'm at a loss.  If I don't select any photos, the sync works fine.
My old ipad 2 and iphone 5S work fine.
    thx for any ideas

I had the same problem. But I was able to fix it with a little luck.
If you have a backup of your iPad that is functional and has value, hold on to it.
First, restore/wipe your iPad so it is empty execpt for the stock software.
Begin to restore your iPad from the backup.
As it is working, click on the "Manage My Own Music" selection on the iPad sync window. Will ask if you are sure, say yes.
Un-check and Re-Check the top box in the music section of the sync pages.
Click Sync at the bottom and let it work.

  • Would a 64GB iPad take longer to sync than 32GB?

I have been using 16GB iPhones for a few years and am getting ready to buy an iPad.
I have a LOT of music and movies and am really leaning towards buying a 64gb model so I will be able to keep more with me
(I have limited access to 3G and to WIFI sites so "streaming" it or using iCloud often wouldn't work for me).
My only concern about getting the 64GB model is... I am wondering if it will take significantly longer to sync a 64GB iPad than a 32GB model.
Anybody have any real-world experience with this sort of thing?
I know there are going to be a lot of variables involved....
I'm just curious how much does the total memory capacity affect sync times?

Wow - thanks for a quick reply!
    I understand what you're saying.
Theoretically if I have two units - a 64GB unit and a 32GB unit and I am loading up 25GB of music they should take the same amount of time to sync.
    Theoretically.
But the real world doesn't always work out like expected.
So - I'm looking for firsthand comments/experience with this.

  • Music takes hours to sync on Playbook

I have been trying to sync a playlist from itunes to my playbook its about 2700 songs the first 500 songs go by fast then it lags it does like 60 songs every hour i have restored my playbook reinstalled the desktop manager and I get the same results someone pleae help oh and im on a Mac cpu

Are you syncing through DM for Mac? I just uploaded about 7.5GB of music to my PlayBook earlier on a PC (about 1500-1700 songs) and it took roughly a half hour, give or take a few minutes. Can you mount your PB as a drive on your Mac? You could try dragging and dropping in mass storage mode. That might give you a faster transfer speed, but I can't say for sure.

  • IPod Classic takes hours to sync a single song

I had an iPod Nano which was recently replaced by an iPod Classic. The first time I plugged the Classic into my computer, iTunes would not recognize it. I had to plug it into a different computer with iTunes on it to do the intial setup stuff. When I plugged it into my computer, it sync'd just fine. Everytime since then that I try to sync on my computer iTunes takes 15 minutes to show that it is there and every command (minimize, cancel, close, etc.) takes 15-20 minutes to execute. Also, it took almost 4 hours for iTunes to restore the Classic. Then after running for almost 10 hours, it had still only sync'd 110 songs (average length).
What the heck? I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling iTunes, I've tried different cables. When I plug the Nano into the same computer, it works perfectly. Someone help me out here. I have a feeling this one is going to have to be replaced. I've not even had it for a month yet.

The Classic sometimes seems to be a bit more sensitive to the state of the USB drivers on a PC than earlier models. With that in mind, does updating or reinstalling your USB drivers help with the connection performance of the Classic?
For information on how to go about doing that, see the following document:
iPod is not recognized properly by computer when USB drivers are not installed properly or are out of date
