Ipad that can replace laptop?

I am not sure if this discussion was answered before or not.
I am just wondering if Apple have any plans to come up with an ipad that can replace laptops. Below are some of the features that should be available in that ipad for the purpose
1. Ability to synchronize the laptop(need not be macbook) with the ipad.
2. Ability to purchase/download business software(s) like MS Office, Visio, Project and outlook
3. Ability to attach/remove a typing pad as per the requirement
4. Flash software would be an advantage
5. USB/Flash drive port
6. Larger storage than 64 GB
To make it simple, something like MS Surface Pro 3.
Thanks,
San Bhu

At this time, iPad can only read USBs for the purpose of photos.
You're right, MS doesn't have an app for Visio that I can see, but if you're willing to look for an alternative: http://alternativeto.net/software/microsoft-visio/?platform=ipad.
If you want the iPad to have a built-in USB port for reading all files, you can let Apple know your suggestion at: http://apple.com/feedback/ipad.html.

    Thanks for the advice. Just don't want to waste money on apps trying to get the right on. Not looking to do too much, just add filters maybe create a pie chart. Will the app you mentioned give added sums at the end of the spreadsheet like it would on the windows version?

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.

    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
  • I am looking for an app for my iPad that can be used to record field work information in a specified format, with the ability to draw diagrams if necessary, and include photos taken from the iPad.
    Any suggestions for apps that could do this?
    It will be used to collect field notes for daily use on a biological field study site. It would be optimal if the information could be collected in a manner that can be moved easily into excel as well. Most of the data will be qualitative descriptions, and some of it quantitative numeric (time stamps etc). We want to make it extremely easy for the user to enter information, such that we will set up a template and the technicians can fill out the individual fields in that template with minimal software knowledge required.
    Hope the community can recommend a few apps to test out.
    Thanks!
    I looked at Bento and at first glance I think it would do everything I want it to do, then I saw a review or something from a customer that indicated the information in Bento could not be exported (say to send out a mailing).  I may want a program that can do that as well, is there one out there? If not it does look like Bento will work.  When you save a picture to a customer in Bento can you open it up full size?
  • Browser that for iPad that can handle uploads?
    Many of us take issue with the the fact that iOs devices lock out any file structure access...
    so not only can we not manage the files in our iPads, but cannot upload our music to our band site, our resumes to an employer, etc. etc....
    now certainly i could 'jailbreak' my iPad, but i do not wish to do so. Aside from that,
    what browsers are you all using that are solid and will allow upload over the web?
    Yes I've seen you mention this on some older posts but it looked quite limited.
    Do you feel the browsing itself is comparable to safari or its better just an upload tool?
  • Is there a program that can replace entourage?
    I tried to install entourage to my computer because i got a new macbook, and to my suprise now i have to have a premium account to use it. And i dont feel like paying the 30 dollars for it, so if someone knows a program to replace entourage or how to trick entourage could you please let know/
    Thanks
    Mail, iCal, Mail Labels, and Addressbook can easily replace Entourage for most any POP or IMAP account. Entourage doesn't require a premium account. It works with plain POP or IMAP as well. But as the above post illustrates it is a risky way to store your data.
  • USB WiFi adapter that can replace iMac Airport
    After trying all of the workarounds posted in the forums to address the sporadic wifi problems, I've had it. Apple does not seem willing to address it, so I either relegate my 24" iMac to being nothing more than a DVD player in the spare room or I find a meaningful resolution. I've read that some people have started using a separate USB WiFi adapter.
    Any consensus on whether some models work better/worse than others?
    Anyone had long term success with one they can report?
    After 17 years of Macs, this is the first one I have had with widespread problems and I'm quite dismayed that Apple has, thus far, ignored it.
    Listen... a Mac is a computer like a Windows PC. It's hard drive can have data corruption too. And you may have even installed some third-party software that is causing this problem, such as a custom kernel extension. Or you may have inadvertently deleted or moved some key system component. There are many possibilities, but the solution of last resort (for any computer since personal computers had hard drives) has been to back up personal data, erase the hard drive, and re-install. If you go to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store, they'll do some trouble-shooting and if they can't figure it out with reasonable effort, they'll erase the drive and re-install the OS. If that does not resolve the issue, they'll conclude it is a hardware problem start investigating which component is faulty.
    If Macs never failed or had issues related to its hard drive, Apple would not have created Time Machine so users can do ongoing backups without thinking about it.
    I have no idea what you have tried, since you have did not specifically state it. You should have already tried these three basic steps
    Run Disk Utility and use +Repair Disk Permissions+ on the +First Aid+ tab
    Reset PRAM - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
    Reset SMC - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
    And before doing an erase and install, you should try one more thing as a test. Create a new admin user account in System Preferences Accounts pane
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8235.html
    Log out and log in to the new account. Try wireless networking while logged into this new account. Does it work better or is it the same?
    If there is improvement, the cause is likely to be confined to your normal user account and not the overall system or hardware. It may be a corrupted user preferences setting or some third-party process that is running in the background. Be sure to check System Preferences Accounts pane +Login Items+ tab (in your normal account) and review the processes that start up automatically at login.
    If there is no change, the cause is likely to be related to the overall system installation or to hardware. Backing up your data, erasing the hard drive, and re-installing will serve to either resolve the problem, or rule out a software-related cause (pointing to a hardware-related cause).
    If you have questions about doing an erase and re-install, please post back.
  • HT4106 I got the USB camera adapter but when I connect it with my ipad mini and my Samsung camera pl120 it appears on my ipad that is too much power.....I don't know what to do????
    I got the USB camera adapter for the ipad mini but when I connect it with my Samsung camera pl120, it appears that's too much power on my ipad mini..,,,so I don't know what to do??????
    If you have the card reader part of the camera kit and your camera uses SD cards, try doing it that way. It is the least troublesome way.
    BUt if that doesn't work, then it may be a setting on your camera. Your camera may be trying to pull power from the iPad for you to download, and the iPad won't put out that much, triggering the error. If you have a power supply for your camera you can try using that. If not, maybe something in here can help you
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4101
    you might also check on Samsung's site. See if they have any advice specific to iPads that can help.
  • What can replace WinHelp?
    I produce online help in WinHelp format that we attach to a
    graphical-user-interface (GUI) overlay on our AS/400 applications.
    When the application user clicks the Help button, the online help
    opens to either the specific topic for that window or to the help
    system's Welcome page.
    We would prefer to switch our help format to HTMLHelp (CHM
    file), but cannot because of Microsoft Security Update 896358. Some
    of our writers work on a server and some of our clients run
    applications (and therefore Help) on a server, and the security
    update, as some of you well know, will not allow CHM files to work
    on a server (at least not without some registry editing, which our
    software security people are not inclined to do).
    If it is true, as I have been told, that WinHelp is
    essentially a dying (if not dead) format, and we cannot use CHM,
    what alternatives do we have? Is there anything else that can
    replace WinHelp? I know about the relatively simple workarounds if
    the CHM file is downloaded from the Internet, but that's not the
    case with us; it is attached to the application itself.
    Does anybody have any suggestions? They would be much
    appreciated.
    Thanks.
    Sara,
    What I would do in your situation is to create a CHM file
    that has all your content, but use the WinHelp 2000 viewer to
    display the HTML topic in your WinHelp file on the right hand side.
    You would have to code a topic-level macro to jump to the correct
    topic in the CHM file. You will also need to distribue the CHM file
    with your WinHelp projet files so, for example, if you have
    APP1.HLP, you would also distribute APP1.CHM.
    This approach does three things for you:
    1) it allows you to code your content in HTML while you wait
    for Dev to catch up
    2) it allows you to be ready for when Dev says, "we're
    starting the conversion of our apps."
    3) it allows you to do the conversion to HTML in pieces. You
    only have to add the topic-level macros to those topics that have
    been converted to HTML. You can still have some topics in WinHelp.
    I do this now for our internal help file and it works well.
    When Dev changes, you will already have your content in HTML
    and will only have to make changes that are based upon any
    interface changes. Otherwise, you would have to code the HTML as
    part of the conversion from WinHelp to HTML and also code the HTML
    to adapt the changes that are made to the interface.
    Hint: At the same time that you are creating the CHM file,
    you should be coding your Index and building the TOC, even though
    no one will see the TOC and Index until you are 100% using CHM
    files.
  • Spreadsheet app that can open ods files?
    Is there an iOS app, preferably both iPhone / iPod Touch and iPad that can read .ods files? I know Numbers can't and I would rather avoid having to translate the files.
    the cloudon app should work for that. Also, if you store the files in Microsoft skydrive & use the skydrive app on ipad/iphone, you can open them in the MS office web apps. Those should also (I think) read .ods files.
    When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.
    I bought an airport express after being assured that I will be able to AirPrint from my IPad. I have set up airport utility on my Hp laptop and configured it properly with the express. But still I'm not able to detect the printer attached to the USB port of airport express, neither on my laptop nor on my IPad. Can someone tell me if and how it can be done?
    Who assured you that an AirPort Express would allow you to use AirPrint from an iPad. They were incorrect.
    AirPrint from iPads and other iOS devices is only supported on a select few wireless network printers that expressly advertise that feature. An AirPort Express will not add that feature to a printer that does not support AirPrint. Also, for printers that do support AirPrint a wireless access point is not required since the printer needs to support wireless networks connections internally.
    The HP laptop should however be able to print to the printer connected to the AirPort Express. Try also installing the Bonjour Print Services for Windows. It will make printer discovery a lot easier when using Bonjour enable devices like an AirPort Express.
