IPad update to ios6 from ios5
I have orinal iPad with current ios5. Need to update to ios6. How do I do this when my iPad says I am up to date w/ ios5?
I received Google Chrome for Christmas. Requires ios6. If my original iPad will not update beyond ios5, do you know if there is Google Chrome that works with ios5?

The moment I upgraded my Ipad 2 (built-in iOS 5.1.1) recently (as a gift from my mother this Oct 10,2012 this IOS 6.0 message keeps on popping out of my screen to Upgrade from iOS 5.1.1 to iOS 6.0 (bothersome) so nothing to do but to click UPGRADE & INSTALL... then BAM! the screen locks to the icon of "iTunes with USB cable" so ..seems to be it simply crash my OS.
I had to bring my iPad 2 to an Apple Reseller here in the Philippines and they said I cannot go back to iOS 5.1.1 (OH WELL!!) so am stuck with iOS 6.0 (FINE!)
NOW that problem is.. I've downloads (MOSTLY GAMES) from iTunes Store.. and followed where iTunes is taking them (DOWNLOAD FOLDER) and made a backup.. And now this... error messages from iTunes that I have to Update my iTunes to latest version and yes I DID and STILL same error.. I called the Apple Reseller and instructed me to re-install iTunes...
Cleaning ALL of APPLE folders from iTunes, and iCloud, Bonjour, etc. so CLEAN RIGHT? Including regstry files on my Windows XP Laptop SP3...
Crossing my fingers that all should work this time FRESH INSTALL.. but..NO. the apps are still in my iPad 2 BUT None (ZILCH) on my iTunes (which is common)
What's so funny was that... I want to recover or transfer my recent backups (previous downloads) to my iPad am running iOS6 from iOS 5.1.1...HELP? I tried to copy frommy backup folder to iTunes folder nothing works.. now now it keeps on Downloading the same stuff.. which i repeatedly deleted.. (ARRGH!!)Downgrading of any version of iOS isn't supported by Apple. If you search the web, you'll find instructions that may work, but you're on your own should any problems arise. For many people it goes without problems, but for some it's reportedly bricked their devices.
iOS 6 works fine on my iPads, though Maps is definitely a work in progress. There are a number of alternative maps apps, or you can just save Google's mobile maps web page to your home screen. For performance or stability problems with iOS, try doing a Restore of your iPad. That fixes for many people a number of problems that upgrading over an existing version of iOS sometimes seems to trigger.
You're not talking with Apple when you post here, by the way.

after update my iphone4 from ios5.0 to untethered ios5.0.1 i have the next problem, my home-screen wallpaper default folder become to black icons and if a set any it aply but in black, a lot of friends had the same issue without a fix.

josemahnI have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

Make sure your device is not muted. Double tap the home button > swipe from left to right > check speaker icon. Also check the "mute switch / rotation lock switch". If those check out fine, back up your iPad in iTunes > restore as a new device

Can I update to IOS8 from ios5.1 on an ipad
I have an ipad that has ios5.1.1 software that tells me it is up to date without an option for upgrade. I would like to upgrade to ios6,7,or 8 because I'd like to get more apps. When I try to download even solitaire, a message pops up that I need to upgrade to ios6. How do I do it? Is that even possible with this ipad? Thanks for any help.
If your iPad is not iPad 1, you can try to update your iPad using iTunes:
Install the latest version of iTunes on your computer.
Plug in your device to your computer.
In iTunes, select your device.
In the Summary pane, click Check for Update.
Click Download and Update.
If you don't have enough free space to update using iTunes, you'll need to delete content manually from your device.

I attempted to update my iphone 4 from the settings on my phone to the iOS6 operating system. After doing this and the download appeared to be complete, my screen showed the itunes hook up. I hooked up to itunes, it said that my phone needed to be restored. After trying to restore it, itunes says an an error occured and my phone could not be retored. Now itunes won't recognize my phone! My screen now shows the iphone circle, but it isn't moving. I have hit the power and home button and it doesn't seem to work. What now??

My iphone was updating to IOS6 from IOS5, then I thought by turning off my iphone it will cancel the update. It did, but now it keeps turning on but not compleely only until the apple sign shows up then turns off. Help please!
You will have to try putting it in DFU mode and allowing it to update. Once it has begun, you can't stop it.

How can I reverse the ios6 to ios5.1 in my iphone4s ?
I updated the system from ios5.1 to ios6 yesterday night. It is totally messed up. The phone became slow and useless. especially the map application. When I used ios 5.1, I can point the address in the email then show me in the google map, then tell me how to get there. Now, they only linked to part address, either the city's name and post code or the street name and number, very slow. When I wondering how to get to there, it just transfer to the application store, ask me install different application for different area transportation. Even I installed that application, it is not quick, clear as the old googlemap. IOS 6 is just a JUNK SYSTEM. Does anybody knows how to revers the system to the original IOS 5.1 ?
It sounds like we are screwed. I think I'm done with iPhones.....

If it's showing the connect to iTunes screen then you will need to do that.
But Apple don't provide any method to update the first gen iPad to iOS 5 (nor do they support downgrading the iOS version). -

I have an iPad 1 and am trying to update to ios6, but the software update button under General Settings states that ios 5.1.1 is current and won't update.
That's correct. The first generation iPad is incapable of running iOS 6 or newer.

updated to ios6 on my ipod touch 4g when i try to turn it on it doesn't, it just comes up with the itunes symbol and the usb, so i plugged into laptop opened itunes and it says to restore back to ios5 i pressed restore and it cant connect to server? help?
Maunally restore it. In order to do this:
-Download the iOS 5.1.1 firmware from here http://www.redmondpie.com/download-5.1.1-ios-for-iphone-4s-4-3gs-ipad-ipod-touch -direct-official-links/
1. After downloading the firmware from the given link, open iTunes and click on your device.
2. Now press SHIFT on your keyboard and while pressing it click on "Restore".
3. A dialog box will appear.
4. Select the firmware you downloaded and click ok.
5. Done!!! Your iPhone will now be restored to 5.1.1 and if you had backed up your iPod before, then you can put all its settings afterwards.
