Ipad using wrong number for imessage

After upgrade, AT&T ipad selected telephone number from our Verizon iphone for imessages, this number is not associated with our Apple account, I've checked. How do I change it?

Try it on the phone. You should log in with your apple ID under the messages settings on your phone and then you will see a prompt on your iPad.

I tried that but on my iphone i can only click on my email and my number is checked but its in grey doesnt allow me click on it and on my Mac, its the opposite, my email is checked but in grey so doesnt allow me to click on it. im realy confused

You can't. You can only use that number if you have active service.

My husband and I both use the same Apple ID, but we can't use his number for iMessaging or FaceTime on his iPad and still have access to all our other music and apps... How can I add his number to be used?

I want to use my husband's contact number on his iPad so that we can iMessage and especially FaceTime, but we share the same Apple ID. This works fine on our phones, why can't we have the option to use his contact number on his iPad the same way? This iPad can only be used with WiFi (contrary to what we were told upon purchasing it...). Anyone have any helpful advice??

This is not an area where I have any expertise, but you may want to consider using separate Apple IDs and using the recently released Family Sharing capabilities which still allow you to share your music and apps.

Turn iMessage and FaceTime off, reset the device by holding both buttons until the apple logo appear then let go and wait for it to restart. Then turn iMessage and FaceTime back on and enter the settings again

TRy to check on your imessage setting on your iphone. It should be setting>messages> imessage. If you can see your phone number then your mac will be able to see your message. If not toggle the message on and off. Once activated your mac will ask you if you would like to use your number for imessage, click agree(0r yes) then you will also receive a message on your iphone that your mac started using your phone number for imessage

It maybe a little late to reply to this but have you ever logged on to iTunes using a friend's computer? if so they maybe using that to send messages if you didn't sign out... But my guess is you no longer have that problem since you changed your password?

You need to change your Apple ID password. You could login to Find My iPhone and wipe that iPad if you felt the need to do so.
