Ipad v1.0 4.3 charging issue

After upgrading my Ipad v1.0 to Ios 4.3, I am unable to charge the Ipad to 100%. It's stuck at 59%. Any suggestions?

Ok, ignore the suggestions about checking battery condition and charger etc. I have exactly the same issue on two iPads across 3 chargers since upgrading, I can repeat the problem consistently too. This is most definitely a software bug. If I plug my iPad into a mains charger, I get the charging icon and I hear the signal that suggests the iPad is charging but it doesn't or at least after 24 hours or so it may increase by a few percent. An important thing to note is that when plugging into the power, I do not get the battery level indicator (big green battery) on screen. The ipad also doesnt automatically go to sleep either. To get my iPads to charge I power off the them off whilst still connected. The iPad acts a bit oddly here as it shuts down but immediately reboots. When it restarts it charges as normal.
The tell tale sign to know if your iPad is actually charging is to look out for the battery level indicator graphic to show up when you connect the power.

  • IPad 3 Syncing and Charging Issue...

Hi I just recently bought a new ipad (3rd gen) in a local apple store,,, an now I try to sync it on my PC via itunes and I noticed that in the batter indicator it says "Not Charging" even though I hooked it up on a USB 2.0 port,,, why is that? I have an iPhone 4s but everytime i connect it to my pC it automatically charge why is that my iPad is not charging????

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. • IPAD 3 battery charging issues

iPAD 3 battery charging issues. Read most of the discussions. My question is: If I take my iPAD to Apple Genius bar - what's the test they do to qualify for a replacement (do they place it on a charge and see the charge for Y% for X minutes or do they have other methods)

We're iPad users like you, so don't know.

  • IPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger  (it was displaying some context for some of that).
I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?
As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.
It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).
Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?
    Thanks!

This is a genuine issue and needs to be addressed.
Yesterday, launch day, I received a white AT&T 32GB 4G version, but I found the color distracting and AT&T lied to me and I got no signal at all where I live.  I was actually able to take it to my local store midday and exchange it for a black Verizon model.  The Verizon is screaming fast.
Anyway, they both have the same charging issues so this is a definite problem with all iPads, or the iPad chargers supplied.  I believe Apple will have to send us all replacement chargers.  While using my iPad, even plugged into the 10W charger and with the cellular data radio turned off, doing nothing more than typing on this very forum with all other apps closed, the battery drains at a rate of about 5% every half hour.... WITH THE CHARGER PLUGGED IN!  The charger is active and the lightning bolt battery icon is up there.  The iPad will only charge when the device is fully powered down.  Even if it is in standby the unit will not charge when plugged in.  This is either an OS bug that needs to be fixed or the charger supplied is not nearly adequate.
The iPad charger will charge my iPhone 4S rapidly, even when in use.  It also charged my previous iPad 2 in a decent amount of time.  But this 10W charger certainly does not charge the iPad while on, and the iPad certainly does not get 10 hours of use with or without the charger plugged in,
This is a serious issue and one that needs to be address promptly.  Apple needs to send us all higher wattage chargers, issue an OS fix, or take care of whatever the problem is.
They also obviously didn't think the new iPad development through.  The unit gets quite warm when in use and quite hot when the cellular is on.  Also, the display does not get as bright as the iPhone 4S, and several people at the Apple Store agreed with me on all these issues.
Unless Apple wants to see a lot of returns and unhappy consumers, they need to fix this issue pronto.  In the time it's taken me to type this post the power has gone down another 3%, with the charger plugged in and supposedly charging.  Something is seriously wrong here.

  • TS2634 IPAD charging issue?

I have the first IPAD and all of a sudden I cannot charge my IPAD through a electrical outlet.  I can only re-charge it through my laptop.  Anyone know why and can this be fixed?

Will it charge using the iPhone charger. It's only 5W, so it will charge more slowly.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.

  • Does the iPad mini have the same slow charging issues as my "New IPad"?

I'm considering returning my New IPad and purchasing the iPad mini due to the slow charging issues with my New IPad. Does anyone know if the mini has the same issue?  Does anyone know if Apple is planning on offering a different charger for the New IPad?  I love everything about the New IPad except the charging system. I can't use it as much as I would like to.  It's so disappointing!!!!

I also have issues when charging my brand new iPad mini. I got astonished when I tried to charge it yersterday and realized it took more more time to charge than my iPod Touch 4th generation, which really charges very fast! It even did'nt charge completely so when I got home I put mi iPad mini to charge overnight, at about 12.30 AM, when it had about 13% charge left.
This morning I got shocked when I saw at 6 Am that it hadn't charged completely. Just 96%, which means the iPad mini can't be totally charged during a 6 hours charging session. So after reading all these posts I get disappointed with this huge issue for iPad users. How can we endure such a long charging sessions for a device that you normally use all the time. For instance, when you're traveling you always need to charge the iPad very quickly. Just a few travelers would allow their ipads to rule their schedules on such a bizarre way!
I was also worried because I don't live in the States. It was my brother who bought it for me, so taking my device to the Apple Glass Cube in New York or any other retailer or just to have this issue technically solved is a big problem for me! So international customers who think to buy this wonderful mini tablet should consider that such a marvelous device is dealing with an absurd and disappointing big problem related to an aspect customers would hardly imagine.

  • IPad 3 charging issue... not your normal USB complaint.

So I took the plunge into iPad world and got the 64 gig  Verizon 4g version.  The night I got it ( Tuesday ) after playing with it for a while, I tried to plug it in overnight to charge it with the AC adapter.   It wouldn't give me the charging acknowledgment on screen in the first two wall outlets I tried, finally plugged it into a surge protector and it worked.  This being my first iPad I thought maybe it was being finicky about the power.    Faster forward to this morning, I forgot to plug it in overnight, and tried every outlet and surge protector in the house, to no avail.    I plugged it in using the same cord minus the AC adapter to my PC and got the "Not charging " Message.   ONLY after doing this was I able to get this thing to start charging using the AC adapter.
So my question is this....  Is this normal?    I really don't want to have some modified OCD dance everytime I need to charge this **** thing.
Is it the iPad itself acting up, which I suspect, or the USB to AC 10w adapter?
Again, first time owner so be gentle.

Sometime the iPad will not indicate it's charging, when using the AC adapter, for the first 15-20 minutes.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). • Can i add a second Apple ID to my iPad (to be able to charge purchases to a different account)?

My wife has an iPad. I have a MacBook Air. We both have our own individual Apple ID. Can I add my Apple ID to her iPad (to be able to charge purchases to my account)?

It can only have one Apple ID signed onto it at a time in the iTunes & App Stores.
Your best bet is to make the purchases via the MacBook Air, then sync the iPad via iTunes. My husband and I share an iTunes library (but both have our own Apple IDs), and we share music purchased by both of us using the sync process.
Downloading via automatic downloads or by downloading past purchases can create problems because the device becomes associated with the Apple ID that is used to do any of those actions, and it cannot be associated with a different Apple ID for 90 days. So, that can get kind of crazy:
Manage your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support
But syncing via a shared library is just syncing, and does not create the "associated device" issue.
    Cheers,

Hi I need some help if you would. I am having trouble getting past the low battery icon on my ipad (1st one).It starts charging displaying the low battery icon and then switches off completely until I press the home button it shows the same icon again and then i go through the same cycle over and over again.

It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. Trying to charge my Ipad but it says "not charging"
