hdmi is better because it carry sound and vga is not a true digital interface
and not 100% sure but think maybe only hdmi support mirror

No. The VGA adaptor is an analog connection and the only inputs are digital Mini Display / Thunderbolt ports depending on your model. It maybe possible with a conversion box of some sort or maybe trying an HDMI to mini display port cable ($44.95) and an iPad 2. The 27' should be able to be used as a second display but the 21 is not. If you have the iPad 2, pick up the cable and the HDMI adapter and try it out. If not, return the cables within two weeks.

I have a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter, then I purchased 3 VGA adapters: a VGA to HDMI, VGA to Component, and VGA to RCA. When I hook them up to my TV (I've tried multiple TVs) they do not detect a display, even when I click Detect Displays.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a solution for this? The only other Mini DP I found was a HDMI connection. I want to make sure I can connect to not only TV's via HDMI, Component or RCA, but also projectors (some of which may be older requiring a Component or RCA connection).

None of the three lower adapters pictured in your post will do you any good with your MBP.
1. The VGA-HDMI adapter does the reverse of what you want: it yields VGA output from HDMI input. The opposite is not possible; a VGA input does not contain all the information necessary to create an HDMI output. You'll have to get a direct mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter instead.

2. VGA-Component: Lots of posters here when the MDP-equipped MBs and MBPs first came out tried adapters like this one with no success. What does work with the MDP (and a VGA adapter) is a converter box like this:

Mini-dp to vga or hdmi, need full resolution

I've HP laptop which has two ports, VGA and HDMI.
I want to connect the Apple 27: display, which has the mini-dp output to my laptop. When I purchased the display, I bought a mini-dp to hdmi adapter, and connected the display to the adapter, and connected the adapter to the laptop using a hdmi-hdmi cable. But, the image is very blurry, and I'm not getting the max resolution on the display.
Could you someone give any advice/comments? Do I need a dual link dvi-d adapter?

Your laptop isn't compatible with the Apple 27" monitor. There are only two possible interfaces that can be used to drive the 27" at full resolution. One is DisplayPort and the other is Dual-link DVI, neither of which your laptop has.

It sounds like have an HDMI to VGA adapter connecting your MacBook Pro and your projector but the screen on your computer goes black and no image appears on the projector. I would use the troubleshooting in the following article to help resolve or isolate the issue here, named:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Try unplugging the video adapter or cable and then plug it back in.
If more than one video adapter is in use (or "daisy-chained"), troubleshoot by using only one adapter.
Example: A mini DisplayPort to DVI adapter connected to a DVI to HDMI adapter is an unsupported configuration because there is a series of adapters in use.
If available, try using a different display and or adapter (or use a different connector by using DVI instead of VGA, for instance).
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.
Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.

I want to use multiple iPads as external monitors from a PC using the iPad VGA adapter (wired)

I want to send a VGA signal to a couple of iPads using them as monitors. I currently use a pair of regular 13" VGA 1024x768 lcd monitors looping thru an LCD projector displaying the same signal sent to the projector.
I want to use the iPad VGA adapter and WIRE them in just like a convention LCD monitor. Yes there are apps like air display and others but they don't allow cloning and have latency issues and must be networked. I need an app to use the VGA adapter and actually wire them in using a VGA signal from my existing VGA distrubution amp.
The size of the iPad is perfect for my application however I cannot find an app to let me send a signal into the iPad via VGA adapter.
Any ideas?

Second monitor using VGA to HDMI or alternative?

I recently purchased a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j038tx Notebook PC.
I have a Dell monitor, which only uses the VGA output.
I have a sony vaio VGA to HDMI adapter, and I tried this adapter with the monitor, it worked fine. I was able to use the monitor as second screen.
However, when I use the same adapter on the HP computer, the second monitor is black and do not get recognised.
Can someone please helpe me!!!!
Do I need to buy a new VGA to HDMI that's specifically built for HP computers?
Or
Do I need to download some drivers to make this work? I just updated the computer with the drivers as I purchased this only a few weeks ago.
or
Do I need to get a different adapter? like VGA to USB? Is there such a thing?
The Dell monitor is about 5 years old, but if it works on my Sony Vaio Pro 13 Laptop that just got released, I don't see why it won't work on the HP too.

There is a possibility that all you need to do is go into the display properties of the HP and have it look for the adapter.

VGA or HDMI on Dell U2713HM

I just bought the Dell u2713hm that supports the 2560x1440 resolution. My laptop (with Geforce GT540M) obviously has only HDMI and VGA port. I will use the monitor only for my job, so Photoshop, Autocad and Rhino (no movies or videogames). I have 2 questions and hope you can help me:
1. HDMI imput seems to be limited to 1920x1080@60Hz, while the VGA reaches 2048x1152@60Hz. You think I have to still use HDMI or I can go for the VGA with a resolution a bit higher?
2. Is there any breakthrough (converter or settings) that let me reach the 2560x1440 resolution with my laptop?

Take a look on wikipedia.org about vga, dvi, hdmi. The biggest difference between vga and hdmi is vga is analog and hdmi is digital. Dvi on the other hand is both and there is an adapter for vga/dvi and one for dvi/hdmi. As quite a few of the older computer only had a dvi connector.
When I looked at wikipedia about vga, I was actually shocked that the resolution went that high. I just assumed it could not handle the extra bandwidth. But I was wrong.
At this point in time there are very few monitors that are capable of going higher than 1080p. But that is changing ever sense Apple came out with their retina displays.
I just checked on Apple's website and it looks like the retina display is 2560-by-1440 and the Sharp 4K monitor is 3840 by 2160. I don't know whats available in the window or linux market for anything higher than 1080p. But I am sure they will follow suit.

I would suggest you visit an Apple dealer, preferably an Apple Store if there's one in your city, and ask for assistance in determining what you need. The questions and issues you bring up are rather complex to address in a technical support forum and would be better addressed in person where you and the salesperson can ask questions back and forth to arrive at the optimal setup.

VGA to HDMI issue with Toshiba TV

I'm having issues connecting an old powerbook G4 running 10.4.11 into a Toshiba TV. I have a DVI to VGA converter from the laptop connected to a VGA to HDMI cable running to the TV's HDMI input. The laptop recognises the television in the display settings but is giving me a blue screen. I've tried restarting, and re plugging in the cables and it just won't work.

You need a DVI to HDMI converter or cable. HDMI uses digital video, which is lost when you go to VGA.
