IPad volume

Why do I suddenly have no audio on my iPad?  Did downloading iOS 7 have anything to do with it?  I've gone into every setting every tutorial has suggested and have set the slide switch on the side to "mute" then switched it on and off.  So far, nothing has worked.  Thanks in advance for any help!!

You said that you set the side switch to mute, then switched it off and on, but did you check the software switch in the Control Center?
This is my "boilerplate" response for issues with sound. Take a look and see if anything in here works for you.
1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
2. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

3. If you still have no sound at all ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

  • HT1947 Remote iPad volume not playing - plays music on iMac instead

I loaded Remote for iPad to my iPad2 and it found my music library through home sharing no problem. However, when I hit play to listen to the music on my ipad the ipad volume is silent (it shows the music time advancing) but the music is playing full volume on my imac instead. WTH? Anyone else encounter this and know how to make a quick fix so I can listen to the music on ipad? I have successfully loaded home sharing to my mac air and listen to music on that computer no problem (without it playing on my imac).

Well that's a rather useless app.
    Then don't use it.
Why would I need to access my desktop PC from my iPad if we are all in the same room together? Wouldn't I just click "Play" from the desktop?
Why get up and press Play when you have a remote in your hand?
What if your desktop is in the office and you want to play music on your stereo in the family room?
Or what if you have outdoor speakers and want to access your entire library while barbecuing?

  • My iPad volume works on Facebook but not on games

My iPad volume works n everything but games

there is a mute setting on the pad, which controls 'system sounds', like beeps and clocks that are sometimes used in games - but does not control regular sounds like music.  You may have your pad muted.  look in settings, general and see what the side swith is set to control, and if it is set to control mute, simply switch it and see if that turns your game sounds back on.
You can also look in control center and see if the mute symbol is shown.
The side switch is the little swith next to the volume rocker.

  • Ipad Volume keeps turning itself all the way down

ipad Volume keeps turning itself all the way down rendomly i`ve tryed everything from upgrading to V5 to rest the device what should i do

Is the switch above the volume set for mute?  Accidentally bumping that would turn down the volume.
Try Settings > General > Lock Rotation to On and see if that eliminates the problem (although beware that the switch will now control screen rotation.  If sound starts working corrcetly, but your screen lock keeps setting, then I think you are having a switch problem.

  • IPad volume turning down itself

iPad volume turning down itself constantly, sometimes it is even hard to mannually put it back up. tried reboot, doesn't work. My iPad repair expired. Any solution?
    Thanks!

There might be dirt under the rocker switch for the volume control. There are schematics online for the iPad that will show you how to take it apart if needed. Or you could use a fine toothbrush to try and clean under it.

    Please help....

And you checked the music app to make sure that you have no sound in any app at all, including keyboard clicks, email and app notifications and everything that uses sound on the iPad - correct?
If you have nothing - not sound anywhere - reboot the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you have sound in the music app, but nowhere else, system sounds are muted.

If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • IPad volume too low on Apple TV when watching movies

    Hi.
I have the latest Apple TV, 3rd Gen iPad and Retina MacBook Pro.  If I play any movie through Apple TV using my iPad (using Video App) the volume is often far too low.  This means that I have to turn my Amp/Speakers up (to around +60; +40 is normal) often leading to the sound cutting out altogether and on one occassion blew my amp.
However, I can put the identical film/file on my MacBook Pro - stream that into my Apple TV and the volume outputs at +40 as normal and everything is fine.
Also - If I stream TV etc through the iPad and play it onto my Apple TV - again this can be heard no problems at +40.  The same can be said if I stream a youtube video using the iPad (+40 is fine)
I can only conclude there is something amiss with my iPad or in partic the Video App/settings for films but have no idea how to remedy it.
Pls can someone help me sort this as my Macbook pro is often left in the office and so I cant use it to watch movies at home all the time
    Thanks

Have you tried checking or resetting your volume limiter under "music" from the Settings home page.  Scroll down to "Music" and tap "Volume Limit".  Once there you can either turn it off or raise the maximum volume.  If you go to the max it will just turn off the limiter.
Here's a video from CNET that also explains this easy adjustment.

  • Ipad volume control when using facebook

anyone have a problem with sound/volume not working when using FB on the ipad?

Tried full factory reset still same.

  • IPad volume doesn't work with 3rd party apps & volume slider gone.

After even a Slide to Power Off, I'll reboot the iPad and I'll launch, say, The Daily Show app. What I encounter is that there is no volume. The physical volume switch has no affect. The volume slider in the video player has been replaced by the word "iPad..." with the ellipse. If I hit the AirPlay button, instead of seeing the menu options "iPad, AirPort Express, Apple TV," I see "AirPort Express, Apple TV, iPad..." (again, with the ellipse) with the last item selected. Selecting either AirPort Express or Apple TV does not take (and, again there is no sound from the iPad even with "iPad..." selected. The volume slider on the multitask bar is also gone.
If I go to the native iPad Video app, everything looks and works normally. If I then go, say, to the ABC Player app and launch a video, I get the same thing that I get with the Daily Show app.
    Any ideas?

You havn't got the old old rotation lock switch 'on' have you ? That mutes notifications now (but not the Apple iPod or Videos app), so may be causing the problems that you're having (as I havn't got those apps I can't check). Rotation lock is now on the taskbar

  • IPad volume up, mute switch, and accelerometer failed simultaneously

    Good morning Apple Community.
Two days ago the volume up, side mute switch, and accelerometer all ceased functioning on my iPad 2 in the 15 minutes it took for me to walk to university.
There were no precipitating events (fall, water, etc.).
I have tried every method I could find to resolve this: sync, soft reset, hard reset, restore to factory, power drain.
The Apple Store recommended a full replacement as there was nothing else they could think to do.
Cost is an issue for me (off warranty), and I'm not ready to give up my trusty iPad yet.
Has anyone had any similar experiences?
Any other ideas that I should try?
I appreciate your time - cheers!

When playing songs, videos on YouTube, iPod, etc, turning the switch does not do anything. The icon showing that the software says that the iPad is muted does show up, but the sound keep on playing. I tried restarting and after that didn't work, I removed all apps from memory and restarted again. Still have the same issue. Is my only option to restore and see what happens?
The former orientation lock switch which is now called the silent switch does not mute all sound. It only mutes system sounds like notifications, key presses, etc. Songs and video sound will still be heard. The point of the silent switch is to quiet the iPad during meetings, etc. as well as to block extraneous noises when listening to music or watching videos.

  • IPad volume jumping up and down

I have one of the first iPads sold, so not sure is was a manufacturing defect or something else.
About a month ago I noticed when watching movies the sound would cut in and out volume wise. I thought it was the ear buds but it did not matter which ones I used.
Today I was playing a song (I really do this since I play through my iPhone) and got then same problem. I noticed that the sound slider bar was moving up and down on it's own.
I read on some forums that this has been a problem with iPods and to reset them. I tried that and it did not work.
Any other ideas before I take It to the apple store?

As a matter of fact, it does tend to happen at work where my ipod usually sits next to my bb.
I will have to check that out and look for the posts on RF interference.
    Thanks for the tip.

  • IPad volume button broken, can't turn volume up

My iPad fell on the floor (tiles) and it got lightly bashed in where the volume roller bar and volume lock button is on the side of the iPad. The volume icon is now constantly displayed on the screen and I can't turn it up (it is not on mute). Does anyone know how I can turn the volume up without the volume roller button? Thanks!

    Hey Bailey,
    You have a couple options:
    1) Use the volume slider in the software (ie, music app, youtube app etc), however if the button is jammed broken in the up position that may not work
    2) Apple will swap your iPad out with a refurbished starting at $249 and up
    3) The final and most economical is to have it repaired. I have use the company below for an out of warranty iPhone repair and they did a great job. A quick search shows they can repair the volume for about $80.
