IPAD vs iMAC wireless issues

hi,
I used the wireless keyboard that came with my iMAC (2009) and paired it with my iPAD. It worked great all day and I got a lot of work done . When I went back to use the wireless keyboard with the iMAC, in another room, the iMAC would not pair with the keyboard. It recognized it but kept trying to pair and it wouldn't. I changed the batteries and it still wouldn't work. I then had to go back to the iPAD with the wireless keyboard and select ' forget this device' from the bluetooth menu and the keyboard worked with the iMAC again.
Do I need to have a separate wireless keyboard for each device to avoid having to 'unpair' each time?

It doesn't require re-pairing each time, and you can get by with having one keyboard for both devices. But you need to turn off BT on your iMac (or just turn the iMac off) if you want to connect to iPad, and vice versa to connect to the iMac.

  • Intel iMac wireless issues

I've had a 20" Intel iMac for over a year now and have never had very good success maintaining a connection to my network wirelessly. I have tried everything, but nothing fixes it permanently. It would just drop the network sporadically, especially if it hadn't been accessed in a day.
My DHCP is set up to lease IP's forever so that's not the problem.
I also have an Intel MacBook that I bought last summer. I've never had problems staying connected to the network with that (though it takes 30-40 seconds to reconnect from hibernation).
The odd thing is that even when the iMac was connected to the network the MacBook could never see it. Couldn't share itunes, couldn't connect to the shared drive, etc. It was almost as though the iMac was invisible to the network. Trust me, I've got no firewall, everything that can be shared is shared, it's as open as it can get (behind my secured router of course). Nothing.
Now, I've added an Apple TV to the mix. I had no problems getting it onto the network and the first time it found iTunes on the iMac and connected, synched, etc. I could stream video from it. All was good. For 1 day.
Then, day 2, nothing, can't find the iMac at all. Just says to make sure iTunes is open. It is, doesn't show the Apple TV in the devices either. I tried switching channels on the router, moving the apple tv around, stopping and restarting everything. Nothing. Wouldn't find it.
I finally got so frustrated (I had gotten the box out to send the apple tv back) that I grabbed a long network cable, plugged it into my router and ran it out the room, down the hall and plugged it into the iMac and disabled the airport card.
I brought up Safari, no problem. Tried iTunes and voila, there was the apple tv. Turned on the apple tv and bingo, there's my library.
I even went to my MacBook and there's the iMac on the network. Brought up iTunes and there's the shared library.
So, suffice it to say, there is a serious problem (and I've seen this posted over and over again) with the Airport cards in combination with the new Intel iMacs that does not seem to impact the Macbooks for some reason, at least not mine.
I guess I will leave it plugged into ethernet and try to hide the cable under the trim or something. I'm frustrated by this whole experience but I'm glad I found a way to get apple tv working.
Both my iMac and Macbook have all the latest software updates.

iPad2 won't sync with iMac and only my iphone4 shows in the devices window on my iMac.  For some reason it will not detect my iPad via my wireless network!   The iPad will sync when plugged into the Mac however looses connection and disappears from the device window when unplugged.

You already have a wireless router or have just bought one, or do you have an ad hoc connection from iMac to AppleTV?
If things worked in the other location this all point to poor network performance/connectivity. It may be the connection is intermittently lost - small files transfer ok, but interruptions during longer transfers scupper the process.
Interference from cordless phone bases or microwaves (and neighbours devices) might also cause connectivity issues.
Signal strength bars are often not that useful, but will indicate connection to the main wireless device they connect to - so AppleTv may have a good connection to the router but a poor iMac connection to router is not displayed by AppleTV which only shows the connection to the first device in the chain.
You could consider some home mains newtorking plugs such as those made by Devolo but they usually have to be on the same mains ring.

  • I have had wireless issues sense Leapord, any fixes yet? its a shame that my wife has to sit in front of our 27 inch imac on a $300 Windows computer to use the web effectively. I have tried all fixes  and some work while others don't but all temporary

This Lion wireless issue has become more than just an irritation, so much so, my wife has resorted to sitting in front of a 27 inch imac with a 300 dollar Walmart Windows computer to get the bills paid and use the web. And yes, there is not a fix out there I haven't tried over the last year or so, some worked and some didn't, but all were temporary at best. Same issue with my Macair, I wonder if its a hardware issue, like the video card in my 2006 MBP, it went out after the warrenty and then I found out there was a calss action suit going on over it, unfortunately Apple wouldn't cover it and wanted 7oo bucks to fix it, sold that as parts.
While i really like me Macs, I own three, I may have to bow out and stick with LINUX, that has yet to let me down, anyone know if Mountain will fix this issue? or are we all just waiting for defective WiFi cards to fail at our own expense, PS, got three Macs for sale.

Sounds like you're getting kernel panics, which are usually, but not always, caused by hardware problems, with memory being one of the regular culprits.
First thing I would do is to get our your original OS X disks, insert the first one (should say 'AHT version x.x' in small print on the label - if not, find the one that does), and reboot holding the Alt key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. If you have either of the TechTool programs, they can do similar testing. Does that identify any hardware issues?
Next, I'd download rember from http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/ . This is a memory testing program that you can set to run overnight. Does it come up with any errors? If so, try resetting your memory card(s) by removing and putting back into the computer. Rerun memory test.
This FAQ will provide other details: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

  • Same Wireless keyboard for iPad and iMac

Can I easily and quickly use a wireless keyboard on a Ipad & a Imac? I can pair them but can't
    connect them. KST

You can pair the keyboard to multiple devices. For example, my keyboard is paired to my Mac, iPad and iPhone.
You can only use the keyboard with one device at a time. This means you have to "disconnect" not "un-pair" the keyboard from a device before "connecting" it to another device.

  • Issues with connecting iMac wirelessly to a Netgear router

The iMac in question being a 2.66GHz model bought in August 2009 running OSX 10.6.6, and the Netgear Router being a DG834GT. The iMac is being exceptionally temperamental when it comes to connecting to the wireless network. Strangely enough there are times when it will connect fine, but most of the time it will either connect for a minute or so and then drop, or just not connect. When the latter happens it seems like it is giving a different error message every time, sometimes saying that a preferred network isn't available, sometimes saying that the password is wrong (when it isn't), sometimes that the ISP has failed (ISP is Orange) and so on. Even when it says it is connected Safari then seems to think it isn't.
We also have a MacBook Pro, an Xbox 360 and two Windows based laptops that have all never had a problem connecting to this router wirelessly. Yet the iMac, the most recent piece of technology by far, just can't seem to stomach it.
Is there something that can be fundamentally changed with the wireless settings that will fix this? Or, in fact, anything that will fix this?

Unfortunately we are already using WPA (which my MacBook Pro has no problems with), so nothing to change there.
Interestingly we have just called up Apple to see if they have any ideas for a quick fix, and they suggested wiring it up, which should somehow fix the wireless aspect of it as well. So after carefully moving the iMac and stringing some wires into fairly dangerous positions, it is now wired up. However, upon disconnecting the wire it worked for all of thirty seconds wirelessly before cutting out again. However, I do recall in my mind something about connecting a Mac via a wire first and then fiddling with something to help it work wirelessly? I don't know what that is though, so suggestions are appreciated.
In the very short term connecting it via a wire works, but really a solution needs to be found asap. If the wireless issue can't be sorted I expect I will have to invest in a very long ethernet cable and run it from the router to the iMac, which whilst obviously not ideal is certainly possible.

  • Broadband OK but iPad Wireless Issue

Hello - I have a desktop computer connected to my Hub 3 fine, getting speeds of 5 (ish) Meg.  It works fine on both wired ethernet or wireless.
My iPad 2 though is awful though, connects fine but the speed goes up and down constantly and seems to have zero download speed at times, despite still being connected.  Watching a YouTube video is impossible for example.
I have changed the wireless channel and no difference.  Moved the Hub and still no difference.
Any ideas anyone??  Thanks in advance.

If you login to your Hub using the desktop computer, click Advanced Settings, Continue to Advanced Setting, Home Network, Devices  you should see your Ipad 2 listed under Wireless Connections.
Click on the entry for your Ipad 2
Your wireless  connection speed should be listed.
If the Ipad 2 is close to the hub this should be around 65 Mbps
If you move your Ipad 2 away from the Hub or change its orientation this speed may/will drop. Note that you will have to refresh the screen on the desktop m/c to see any change.
If the situation is as I have described then the wireless connection is likely not to be causing the problem and we need to look elsewhere.
Report back if you want further assistance.

  • New MacBook Pro 13 i5 Wireless Issues.

I got the new MacBook Pro i5 2.3 the day it came out. So maybe a week and half ago.
I`m having intermittent wireless issues. I have done some testing and even replaced my older AirPort Base Station with the new Dual-Band one, but still seeing a drops from the network. I have a ping going to my router and to the ABSE. I tried changing the channel and using 5GHZ or 2.4GHZ. I also have a AirPort express and seen similar results. I tried reseting the PRAM, repairing permission, I did not reinstall the OS but I dont see how this would help. I think there is a hardware issue with the wireless card/antenna.
I did upgrade RAM and HDD was changed to SSD (intel G2 SSD). There are no other issues, machine is fast, no lock ups. Other devices on the network do not seem to drop any connections (ATV, ATV2, iPhone4, iPad etc..)
The network drop outs are short but are noticeable and if a ping is going I can see the drops

  • How can I print from ipad to non wireless printer?

How can I print from ipad to non wireless printer.
....been trying to save document to pc to print.... but cant find a way to do so.....?

Actually you can print to a non wireless printer if you have apps on the iPad and your computer that will do this and as long as you can set up a WiFi network or the iPad and the computer are already on the same network.
I Am running an old OSX version on my iMac at work (Tiger OSX 10.4.11) and I have an app on my iPad called Save2 pdf. I downloaded a helper app on the Mac called WePrint. I do not have WiFi at work, but I create a WiFi network using the Ethernet connection to the Mac that my iPad can also join. As long as I can send the file/text/document to the Save2pdf app, I can print it on my old HP LaserWriter1012 which is not a wireless printer. This uses the Mac as the print server and the WePrint app on the Mac sends the doecument to the printer.
It's not a very elegant solution, and it is a little convoluted, but it does work.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after the iPad shuts down, then press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds). Ignore the "Slide to power off"

  • Security flaw update - how do you know if your iPad and iMac are compromised/hacked?

Can anyone explain how one might know if their iPad or iMac running Mountain Lion has been Hacked.
I always use my wifi at home which is locked.
    On my iPad,
messages popped up two days ago that the password for my apple    me.com account was wrong. When I tried to rectify that, I ended up with Apple freezing the account.  I checked the software and it says it is up to date.
    On my iMac
On Friday and Saturday, messages intermittently popped up about certificates for one of my email accounts on their outbound server (GoDaddy but not Time Warner). On Saturday, I installed the latest update, but I am still getting the certificate message for the GoDaddy email,
Does this mean I was already hacked?
Is there anything else I should do?
    Thank you.

Sounds like your Apple ID may have been hacked. If it gets hacked, it's entirely possible for the hacker to take control away from you entirely, by changing the password, recovery e-mail and security questions, or even enabling two-factor authentication. If they have done the latter, you'll never see your Apple ID again, as Apple absolutely will not assist in recovering an account that has had two-factor authentication enabled.
Since you're unable to log in at this point, you'll need to contact Apple. However, keep in mind that they may not be able to help you. There's very little proof that you own an Apple ID other than the information that the hacker could have changed by now. Still, Apple is the only one who can help with this.
Regarding the GoDaddy e-mail certificate, that's harder to say anything about. You'll probably want to contact GoDaddy support about that one. It's likely to be an issue on their end - perhaps an expired certificate, or a certificate that was compromised and has now been revoked, or a simple configuration issue.
None of this is likely to be related to malware.

  • Apple tv 2 wireless issues

I have an apple 2 running 5.0.1 (4224), in fact I just did an update, and it is killing me with the network dropouts.  I had hoped this last update was going to fix it.  What is happening is the Apple TV tells me I'm not connected to the network one minute and then I am the next.  I've disconnected the power to it and restarted it several times.  I am using a Netgear N router and it is working properly.  I also have an iPad 2 and, sitting in the same room as the Apple TV, Speedtest.net shows a download speed of over 20Mbps down and over 3Mbps up on the iPad, so the wireless strength doesn't seem to be an issue.  What is the problem here?  Does the Apple TV not play nice with devices other than airport?

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel or adjusting your multicast rate.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first. Networks that have inherent issues can be seen to work differently with different versions of the same software. You might also try moving the Apple TV away from other electrical equipment.

  • Pair iPAD with iMac monitor and keyboard

Is it possible?  How about the iMac wireless keyboard paired with the iPad? Related to possible future purchase so all h/w and s/w latest available.

Should be as easy as connecting the cable from pad to Mac.
Well, as the iMac doesn't have a video input port, that would be rather tricky. Where would you propose connecting the iPad to?
You can connect the iPad to a computer monitor that has video inputs. Cables for virtually every video input are available.

  • Paired ipad and imac..now what?

I was pairing my wireless keyboard with my iPad and saw iMac on the list calling out to me.  So I paired them.   I have looked for uses and advantages for this but have yet to find anything.
Suggestions and tips are welcomed. JiPi

Your original post mentioned about wireless keyboard & iPad. Instead you pair it with your iMac.
So you can wirelessly type on your iMac. My question was what else do you expect?
Since this forum is about Home Sharing and your 2nd question was asking what iPad and iMac can do at the same time when connected.
There are quite a number of things you can do. For example:
    1. You don't have to sync all your computer iTunes music to the iPad. You can stream it to your iPad.
    2. With a Remote app (free from Apple) you can control your computer iTunes.
Have a read about home sharing:

i was never able to connect my imac when i wired it through the router but was able to connect wirelessly using my pc but not vise versa. i'm stumped. is it the router or my mac that is having issues? i'm not too tech savvy so if anyone can help, i'd appreciate it!

There is no "primary computer" for the router. Any computer connected to the router can configure the router.
Forget the CD. Look at the Belkin's user guide and follow the instructions for using your web browser to configure the Belkin.
