The iPhone uses a 5 volt .5 amp charger. The iPad uses a 5 volt 1.2 amp charger. The iPhone charger will work, but it will not charge and allow you to use the device at the same time. It would work like a trickle charger on your car. It will get there, but it's going to take a lot longer.

Can a iPhone car charge a iPad or not? I'm using a DC/USB car adapter but when i plug it in it said Not Charging.

It will give that message but if you turn the iPad off (it won't charge if it is working) and give it about 8 hours it will charge despite that message.
You'd be far better off investing in a car charger designed for the iPad and you can also use it with your iPhone.

  • Can u charge an ipad using an iphone car charger

Can an iPhone car charger be used to charge an iPad2?

Although some direct USB connections will charge the iPad very slowly (very likely even my Acura) it is typically not enough for the "lightning" symbol to even show up on the battery icon on the iPad.  The iPhone car charge is not different and when plugged in, my symbol does not change.  In addition, if you are actually using the iPad at the same time, you'll drain it much faster than the base USB will ever charge it.  I'd buy one made specifically to charge the iPad and then as Chris states you can use it on both without worry.  Like killing two birds with one stone.

  • Can an iphone car charger be used safely with an ipad?

can an iphone car charger be used safely with an ipad?

Safely? Yes. Effectively? Probably not. iPhones use 5W chargers. iPads need 10@ chargers. Unless the charger you have is rated for both devices, it will only charge the iPad if the screen is off and then only very slowly.

  • HT1665 Can iPhone car charger be used for latest iPad?

Can iPhone car charger be used for new iPad?

Probably not. The iPhone charger is 5W whereas the iPad requires a 10W charger. The iPhone car charger will probable charge the iPad, but very slowly.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Iphone car charger once again not charging. Second one and they are not cheap from the apple store.Any else have these problems?

My Iphone car charger is not charging again. This is the second one I have bought from the Apple store and they are not cheap anyone else have problems?

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • Ipod / iPhone car charger

What is the difference (if any) between the iPod & iPhone car charger?
When I plug my iPod car charger into my iPhone the alert +'This accessory is not made to work with iPhone. Do you want to turn on Airplane Mode?+
I have not tried to actually connect it to the car charger as yet and would appreciate any ideas or experience of same.

You can safely ignore that message (and not use Airplane Mode). It just means the accessory is not shielded against cell phone signals (i.e. you may get some static on your car radio).

    Not effectively
All iphone charger in car and wall chargers produce 5w

  • Can my iphone car charger charge the iPad?

I have a car charger for my iPhone. Is it safe to use that for the iPad?

The normal iPod/iPhone car chargers output 1amp The iPad needs 2Amp to charge normally
If you have a " cigarette lighter" power  socket several manufacturers supply inserts with a 2.1amp USB outlet
for instance the Griffin Powerbolt and Kensington also do one

  • US iPhone car charger in UK

I'm traveling to Scotland and Ireland next month and was wondering if iPhone car chargers used in the US will work with the UK and Ireland cars we will rent?  I vaguely recall owning a British Triumph Spitfire in my youth that was positive ground instead of the standard negative ground system found in the US.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

that changed decades ago around 1970s

  • Apple Approved iPhone Car Charger

I'm looking for a car charger for my iPhone. There isn't one available from Apple, but there are a few made by third parties. I always hear that you're not supposed to use third party chargers and what not because it'll do this and that with your battery and since the iPhone battery is a critical part of its functionality, I'm wondering if using a third party charger is OK, and if Apple is hiding a car charger somewhere that I can't see.

  • Interference with iPhone car charger.

Can anyone help me with this issue?
I have tried two Griffin "iPhone compatible" car chargers for my iPhone so far, and when I try to use the car charger in conjunction with my cars AUX in port (RCA plug), I get a very noticeable buzzing interference as soon as I plug in the car charger. If I unplug the charger and just leave the stereo wire plugged in the sound goes away and everything is clear. Is this a common issue with the phone? I have read threads that say people have to put the phone in Airplane Mode to remove interference, but this interference is coming from the charger...not from the cell signal (I assume).
Anyone have any tips so I can play music and charge the phone at the same time? Thanks.

I was also having problems with noise when I had an adapter for my iPhone 3G plugged in to the cigarette lighter socket in the car and playing music through a cable going into the AUX connector of my car stereo. After having trouble with one, I went and bought a Griffin PowerJolt SE but still had a noise problem. After doing some tweeking, I fixed my problem.
    1) It makes no difference whether the airplane mode is on or off, because the interference isn't coming from there.
    2) The amount of noise varies depending upon whether your car engine is running or the ignition switch is in the accessories position. There will likely be a high pitched whine in the latter but also a clicking noise in the first mode. This is interference from the spark plugs in the car. This noise will also vary depending upon the speed of the engine. Also the noise will go away when you are not plugged into the charger.
    3) Check two things in the settings in your iPhone. First, check that the volume limit on the phone is off or is set fairly high.
    4) Now check the volume setting on your iPhone. This needs to be at or near the maximum.
If the last two conditions are not true, then what is happening is that the noise that is coming in through the iPhone from the car ignition and the charger is too loud compared to the audio. This then causes the car amplifier to amplify both the noise and the music for you to hear anything. When the iPhone volume is higher compared to the noise, then the car amplifier amplifies the audio less, but it also amplifies the noise less.
At least these changes made a big difference on my iPhone.

  • Can I use my standard car charger i got for iphone 4 with iPhone 5? if I just plug in the usb to lightning cable or will it damage the new iphone?

The charger takes a usb cable, so I figure I could just plug in my usb to lightning cable and charge using my Saitek charger.  Does anyone know if this works?

Did you get this to work?  Mine did not work when I plugged it into my at&t iphone car charger usb port.

  • Whenever I plug my iPhone into the car charger (professionally installed and hardwired), it comes up with the yellow triangle and exclamation mark saying that this accessory isn't supported.   It's been working quite fine since 2010, now it's not.

My iPhone car charger was professionally installed in 2010 and again in 2013 and had been working perfectly for all of this time, now it's coming up with the yellow triangle and the text saying that this accessory isn't supported.    Is there an easy way to fix this without tearing everything to bits?    It all appears to have gone boonta about 3 upgrades ago and I haven't been able to use it since.
I've seen and tried the suggestions on Google, none of them work for long, and I'm certainly not going to tear the car kit or phone apart to overcome something that is obviously a software issue.    Surely Apple can overcome this?
And the bloody "Terms and Conditions" fiasco!   55 pages of mumbo jumbo that nobody would read EVER, and you get to the end and nothing happens.   I've bought an app from Apple to use on their product and I can't install it because the Terms and Conditions doesn't accept anything.   Surely they can fix this?
    Come on.....waiting.

  • Iphone and Jabra car charger

I have a Jabra Bluetooth which has a car charger with a USB connection. It's output is rated at 5VDC/750mA. Is this by any chance compatible with the iphone 3Gs? Will it damage the iphone if I try to charge with it?
    thanks

    Thanks
The voltage is 12 volt (input). I assume the output is what matters, and it is 5V DC, and 750 mA. I don't know how to find out what the iphone car charger puts out, since that would show if it's compatible. I didn't see any listing in the iphone specs.
