IPad wifi always on?

I Have a iPad 32GB 3G + Wifi
Just wondering if the Wifi is supposed to go off when the iPad is in standby (like the iphone) or does it constantly stay connected?

As Carolyn said, the iPad will automatically connect to the WiFi when it wakes if WiFi has been left in the ON position. If there are multiple WiFi networks to choose from, the iPad will connect to the last network it was attached to before going to sleep. Also, if you take it out of range of the network, when you come back in range it will reconnect automatically.
In the sleep mode, or even out of range of a network, the battery is not being drained by leaving the WiFi switched on. Some have said on here to turn it off to save power but I have seen no difference if out of range of a WiFi network.
The unit is very good about remembering what you have done recently and helping automate your existence

No, there isn't any setting that you are missing. Have you tried force closing FaceTime, and resetting your iPad?
In order to close FaceTime, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that does not make a difference, you could try resetting all settings, if you reset all settings you will have to enter all of the device preferences again in the settings app. That takes some time to accomplish, but you will not lose my data, media, apps or anything like that. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings.
If that doesn't help, the next step would be to restore the iOS software. Backup your iPad first, restore the iOS, then restore the backup.

Means that the iPad and the Apple TV box both have to be in range of the wireless router when this wasn't a restriction before. Apple TV could be anywhere as long as it was connected to the same wireless router via ethernet cable. Seems like an unnecessary thing to restrict.

I have found with AppleTV that it is the IPV6 on the computer you want to access is the problem. The issue is that Homegroup on Win 7 or Win 8 requires IPV6 to work, but AppleTV won't work with IPV6. (So maybe double check you have IPV6 turned off)
So you have to make a choice - Homegroup or AppleTV.... but you can't have both, until Apple brings ATV up to date. (crazy that it does not recognise IPV6 - c'mon Apple!)
You can set up sharing individually in Win 7 or 8 and have the ATV access files that way.
Having said that, there is always the exception.. I have an old HP home server running Win8 and it services ATV - but is part of the Homegroup... have no idea why it works on both, but no other machine on the home network will talk to both ATV and Homegroup at the same time!

Downloading and Installing Problem of IOS 4.2 to IPad Wifi 3G 64 GB

I've tried downloading and installing IOS 4.2 trough ITunes to my IPad Wifi 3G 64 GB, but it always failed.
Could someone tell me how to do it? The error message said that it took too long to download IOS 4.2 (12 Minutes) and the server has denied the action.

I never thought that I would forget the fact that before downloading some software from Internet, I should disable my antivirus, firewall, anti spyware and cos.
Now, if you don't mind for another question. Do you know why ITunes with Windows 7 has (PC) problem to recognize my whole songs I have in ITunes with Widows Vista (Notebook)? It is around 200 titles, which are missing.

Original iPad WiFi works, but no WiFi icon

I know this started after I upgraded to 4.3, but I can't say whether it started immediately after installing 4.3.
My original 16GB WiFi only iPad has always been a champ when it comes to connecting to and staying connected to WiFi. Lately, I've noticed that the WiFi indicator just disappears, as if there is no connection. I am, however, still connected and everything works just fine.
I know that if I re-set or power cycle the iPad, it comes back, but after some period of time, the indicator will disappear again. I'm trying to pin down whether this is related to a 3rd party app in some way, but haven't identified anything yet.
Any others with this issue?

One way to narrow this down to an app is to sync your apps 5 at a time then test your iPad Wi Fi. It could very well be an app causing the icon to disappear.

IPad wifi to my Mac has stopped working

iPad wifi to my Mac stopped working, about one week ago. I can see a full wifi signal at top left of iPad Menu bar and to the right of the right panel, but on the right side of the screen, the whirly search symbol just spins around, searching without stopping. I can connect to my partner's wifi, but not my own. I have turned wifi on and off and selected "forget this network" but I still can't connect. I have an iPad 1 and it has always worked for me. IOS 5.1.1, MacBook Pro 13" 10.6.8. Help appreciated, thanks!

You could also try an SMC Reset and PRAM Reset:
SMC Reset
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and disconnect attached devices.
Wait fifteen seconds.
Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Reset PRAM
Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P and R.
You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.

Today I have a big problem, My iPad is alway in blackscreen when I lockscreen or close smart cover.
I have to press and hold home+lockscreen button to wake it up then it's show apple logo screen before I can use iPad again.
I tried to restore to factory setting , It doesn't work man.

You may see the WiFi bars indicating that the iPad sees a Wifi signal - but you are not really connected to the internet. If you were actually connected to the internet, you wouldn't be here asking about the problem.

According to Apple's customer service line you can return an engraved iPad for an exchange, but it's not clear if it's within 14 or 30 days. If you call they says 30, but their site says 14. I think it has to be purchased straight through Apple though. Contact where you bought it from and tell them you are thinking of buying a iPad and having it engraved, but are concerned about the refund policy. They'll explain it in more detail at that time.

Resetting the settings will reset things like the wallpaper to the default. It wont remove the apps or music.
As the previous poster said, the apps and music will be tied to the previous owners Apple ID, you'll need the password to update the apps and remain authorized to play the music.
I would suggest taking your stuff off (the camera pictures) then erasing all content and settings so the iPad is like new. For privacy reasons alone I would erase the device. I realise you want to keep the music, but since you haven't paid for it (it was purchased under someone elses ID) then it isn't yours to keep, you'll need to write down the tracks and purchase them under your ID.

Why is my internet speed slower on my 4g iPod touch compared to my 1g iPad (Wifi only), though we use the same router?

i bought my 4g iPod touch just 3 months ago fromt the US. Internet speed was just fine and working consistently while i was using a d-link router.
my Wi-Fi network is password protected and since has not affected the speeds on my pc or my iPad (wifi only). However, just 4 weeks ago, i bought a new router, an Aztec one. That has not improved or worsened the speeds on my pc or iPad, but worsens only my iPod touch, even though it says its connected and has a full signal strength.
Here are the symptoms:-
1. iMessage is now really slow as after i click send, the loading bar at the top lags.
2. i can't go on to google or any site or app that involves internet connection e.g. Facebook, Twitter
3. I can't purchase or get apps from the App store as the searching takes way too long.
4. Now as i pull down the notifications bar, it shows temperature but no stock; i can't even access the Stocks app
5. I can see the temperature for the day on the notifications, but i cant see the details for the rest of the week like i was able to
6. I now cant read any updated emails on Mail as it takes way too long
I live in a country called Brunei, and speeds are the worst there, yet they shouldn't be this slow especialy when my friends and other devices are working.
So, what's wrong? Is it my new router?

Have you tried a simple reset of your iPod to see if that helps? To do this, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Otherwise, have you tried any of the troubleshooting mentioned in this Apple support document?

I found the following that goes over troubleshooting the same issue for the iPhone. I know you have an iPad, but the steps should still apply:
Perform the following steps:
Restart the iPhone.
Try another means of reaching the activation server and attempt to activate.
Try connecting to a known-good Wi-Fi network if you're unable to activate using a cellular data connection.
Try connecting to iTunes if you're unable to activate using Wi-Fi.
Restore the iPhone.
If you receive an alert message when you attempt to activate your iPhone, try to place the iPhone in recovery mode and perform a restore. If you're still unable to complete the setup assistant due to an activation error, contact Apple for assistance.

IPad WiFi Connection Problems - WiFi Symbol Appears With Full Bars but I Don't Get A Checkmark?

I was using the iPad one day and then all of a sudden it stopped connecting to the internet. The network at this hotel is very good and I've asked them about their router so it is not the router's problem.
I go to the Settings and tap on Wi-Fi then I tap on the hotel network. After a few seconds, it says the network name beside the Wi-Fi tab and it gives me the WiFi symbol showing 3 bars. But then I never get the checkmark or tick saying everything is connected. I try going online and it says the iPad is not connected to the internet. I've tried an iPhone and it connected and got a checkmark in a few seconds. I've talked to the front desk and he took out his phone and showed me that he could connect, he even opened a page without any problems at all.
I've been trying to find a solution for this for a long time. I've been searching Google over and over again. I turned Airplane Mode on for 1 minute, I've tried Resetting my Network settings, I've tried forgetting the network and reconnecting again, I've tried removing all restrictions from the iPad, I've rebooted the iPad A LOT, etc.
So this is my problem for people who don't want to read the whole message:
1. I can't connect to the internet with the iPad
2. It shows the WiFi symbol saying its connected but I never get the checkmark or tick.
3. It's not the router problem.
4. I've tried other networks and it doesn't work. It just keeps on showing that loading circle right beside the network name.
5. Do any of you know what this problem is? Or do you have a solution?

Ipad wifi does not connect after upgrading firmware to 3.2.2

So many posts and replies on connection to wifi with iPad not working... My issue is that everyhing worked perfect a home until i upgraded firmware to latest (3.2.2?). Now it connects and disconnects in second intervals ??!!
no changes has been made to my router and my two macs connect as before, only iPad does not
Very frustrating indeed, so any tips on what i should do?
