IPad will no longer sync after iOS 5 update

I updated my Original iPad to iOS 5 and now it no longer syncs; it stays stuck at the preparing to backup step. This happens whether I try it via WiFi or via the standard way with the cable.
I'm thinking I should do a Restore from Backup and get it back to iOS 4.3.5.

I've been stymied at this backup failure (and thus sync and update since both go through the backup process first) for a long time, ever since release 4.3.3 or thereabouts.
Stay with me, please; this was part of my recent troubleshooting process.  I tried using the new install of Safari and sure enough, it only loaded blank pages.  iTunes (new release) Help also loaded only blank pages and then reported "computer not connected to the internet".
In seeking a resolution to the Safari connection issue, I came across this advice from Mike41: "If anyone runs across my post of 7/21/2011 regarding Safari 5.1 not connecting to the Internet on my Windows Vista system, BorisKon suggested I run a command prompt window as administrator and execute the command "netsh winsock reset" (then be sure to reboot). I tried this and now Safari 5.1 can access the Internet. See the discussion athttps://discussions.apple.com/message/15734035#15734035. I had to reboot for the command to take effect. "
I did this on my system and now Safari, iTunes, and the iPad backup all function 100%.
Start/Run/"cmd" without quotes.
Type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes.
Reboot the computer.
Happy, happy, joy, joy...

Mozilla, like many other software companies, thoroughly test their software before releasing it to the public and I'm sure that no problem you are having is intentional.
I do not work for Mozilla but I do have experience of releasing software for public usage.
Firefox has no way of knowing what other software is already on your computer and with millions of combinations it isn't always possible to test for every scenario.
You can go back to the old version of Firefox but that won't always solve your problem.
The web site below tells you how:

  • Ipod Touch 5th gen won't sync after iOS update

iPod Touch will not sync after iOS 7 update. It's stucked at "changes are being applied" and won't go past that point. Tried 5 times and got the same problem. I have the latest iTunes installed.
    Any suggestions?

Try a cold reboot of your phone / iPod. I.e. hold power + home button until it reboots.
    Worked for me.

  • Ipod Touch 5 will no longer sync after update 7.1.2

After updating from iOS 7.1.1 to 7.1.2 my Ipod touch 5th gen no longer syncs with my iTunes 11.3.1.1 when connecting it to my computer (windows 8.1) what comes up on my touch's screen is "trust this computer?" I press the "trust" button then a few seconds later I get the disconnected tone from my computer and nothing else happens (it still charges) and just checked it out on my Windows 7 computer (iTunes 11.3.1.2)and it recognized it fine (but the other computer has my playlists) I've tried updating to iTunes 11.3.1.2, updating iPod drivers and uninstalling then re-installing iPod drivers and iTunes is still not connecting to my iPod. Help please.

On your computer go to the control panel (hover in the lower right corner) then programs, add/remove programs
Uninstall iTunes, Apple Mobile Device Service, Apple Application Support then go to apple.com and redownload and reinstall iTunes and try again.
You won't lose any content, you're not deleting that, just the programs that access them.
What is thought to happen is that sometimes a new version of itunes doesn't update the drivers in those other two programs. The only way to update the drivers is to force it by uninstalling the programs which allows itunes to write the correct ones.
My iPad and iPod did exactly the same thing and this is how I fixed it.

  • IPad will no longer sync iTunes Playlist from OS 10.8.5 to iOS 7.0.4

I HAD been syncing my iPad to my iMac, but I decided to sync the iPad with my Macbook from now on, as it's at OS 10.8.5, when sync stopped working for Movies and Playlists from its OS 10.5 (I do not want to update the desktop Mac due to my preference for the colorful finder icons, plus some of my software requires expensive updates to work with 10.8).  So I had done some research and found that the sync from OS 10.5 no longer works to iOS 7... which led to my decision to sync the iPad with my Macbook which was great at first.....
When I first synced to the Macbook, my up to date Playlists and Movies all synced - great - BUT last night, I added several new songs to my library and Playlists, and though after the sync, the iPad's iTunes DOES have the songs in its library, they do NOT appear in the Playlists.
I  have done a manual sync on the Macbook repeatedly to try and get these songs to appear in the Playlists on the iPad, but to no avail. I've always had 'Sync only checked songs and videos' selected, and have unchecked the updated Playlists, synced, and then checked them again and synced again, have tried checking and unchecking 'sync over WiFi', and even closing the iTunes app and re-opening, and even powering off the iPad and back on, yet nothing changes..
My Macbook is at 10.8.5 (current with its release) and the iPad is current as well, iOS 7.0.4.

I had to recreate the play list But once I did that and synced it appeared. I'm sure updates won't update to the playlist though if I buy new songs.... Plus I can't figure out why my Macbook syned to the iPad after deleting the Playlist on the iPad (I assumed it would re-sync to the Macbook as it had done the before) ... I had not changed any settings after fiddling with the obvious above... but once I created it again on the Macbook, then the iPad synced the new Playlist.
So aggrivating and disappointing that these things aren't tested out prior to releasing updates!

  • IPad 2 no longer works after iOS 6 update was interrupted

I have an iPad 2, of which I chose to update through settings>general>software update. I hit install and after the progress bar filled up the screen turned off. I panicked thinking it shut off so I held the power button. Now the iPad loads the Apple logo for 15 seconds and turns the display off and repeats this cycle infinitly. I put the device into recovery mode and it had the iTunes logo, I plugged it into the computer and I then clicked restore, it then asked to restore and update, however after it claims to extract the software it then displays an error message saying "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. This device isn't eligible for the requested build." How will I ever manage to fix this? Someone, please help!

    Recovery Mode:
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Connect USB cable to computer; leave the other end alone
    3. Press and hold the Home button down and connect the docking end of cable to iPad
    4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect To iTune" screen
    5. Release the Home button
    6. Open iTune
    7. You should see "iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode"
    8. Use iTune to restore iPad
Note: You need to be patient and repeat the above many times to recover your iPad

  • Lots of my music will no longer play after latest update

    Hello,
I have a lot of music that will no longer play in my iTunes after the last update.  it doesnt happen with all my music, but a lot of it, and as far as i can tell, movies and tv shows are still good.  when i click on the song, it just skips forward over a lot of songs that it cant play until it gets to the next one that it can play.  to make things stranger, i synced my iPad to my iTunes, and the ones that cant play in my iTunes will play on my iPad.  when i try to open the song using QuickTime player, i get the following error: error -2002 a bad public movie atom was found in the movie
what is a bad movie atom and why am i getting the error when trying to play an audio file, and why wont they play in my iTunes but will on my iPad.
    System: Win7 Ultimate 64bit AMD A10 8GB RAM
    iTunes : 11.4.0.18
    QuickTime : 7.7.5
    any ideas?
    thanks

The contacts is saved on Google or Backup Assistance (Whichever you are using) and you can use ES File Explorer like I posted at http://community.vzw.com/t5/Android-Apps/Simple-way-to-Backup-apps-for-Hard-Reset/td-p/658707 , so you really wont loose anything but apps data...
BUT, I am not saying that you do this if that is your only issue...  I was just pointing out that this is a good ideal to do with any Major Updates..
If the contacts isnt linked again you should get the option to link them again once the OS boots, normally it checks and then prompt to link again..

  • Calendar no longer syncs after ios7 update

since updating the firmware on my iphone 4 it no longer syncs the calendar with outlook 2003, ive been in the info tab many times, selected and unselected the sync calendars with outlook box and it makes no difference, ive been in the add in menu in outlook and made sure the itunes add in is selected (its the only one there) ive been using the iphone and outlook combination for years now for work with no problems whatsoever, i cant understand why the 'select calendar box' in itunes is empty, if anyone knows the fix id be most grateful as its become quite integral to my work

Make sure you are running the latest version of iCloud control panel for Windows (ver. 4) by running Apple Software Update and installing any available updates.  If you install an update, restart your PC, then try calendar syncing again.
If that wasn't the issue, try force-closing the calendar app on your iPad (double-tap the home button, swipe up on the calendar app, tap the home button again), then reset your iPad (hold the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release).  After it restarts, try adding a new calendar event and see if it appears on your PC now.
If not, try going to Settings>iCloud on your iPad, tap Sign Out, choose Delete from My iPad and provide your password when prompted (your data will still be in iCloud).  Then reset your iPad again and test calendar syncing.

  • TS1538 iPad will no longer sync to itunes on PC.

I can no longer sync my ipad with my iTunes on my PC. I was able to sync it all right when I first got it a year ago but now when I connect my ipad to my PC via the USB cable I can't see my ipad on iTunes and so can't tell it to sync.  I did update to IOS 7 and I'm running the current version on my iPad. Could this be the problem? I followed troubleshooting instructions all to no avail. Can anyone help?

Check your  i tunes version on the PC.  you need the most recent version.
    Other potentials -
    try a different usb port,
    try a different cable.

  • IPad will no longer sync with desktop Outlook programs.  Wireless keyboard cannot find the iPad.  Cannot reset the iPad.  What is wrong?

This problem developed in mid December. the synching worked perfectly on my 18 month old iPad 2 until then.  Now the iPad will not sink my calendar, contacts and notes from my desktop Outlook program.  It does seem to sync my pictures. the wireless keyboard had no problem recognizing the iPad until mid-December.  I tried to reset the iPad by pressing the on off and home button concurrently.  The iPad logo appeared but the iPad did not reset.  Instead, my full configuration on the iPad along with all of my apps simply reappeared.  I am at a loss as to what happened and what to do about it.

Your post indicates iOS 4.3 which is now quite old.  I am going to suggest restoring your iPad, which, among other things, will update your iOS to the current version.
I recommend restoring your iPad.  Make sure you have the current version of iTunes on your computer (currently 11.0.1).  Plug your iPad into your computer, let it sync, then press "Restore" on the right side when the summary page of the iPad is displayed in iTuens' display.

  • IPad will no longer sync with iPhone when using iMessages

I'm not sure what happened but my iPad no longer syncing iMessages with my iPhone. All have been signed in with Apple ID, all have the same telephone number and email address selected. I'm at loss what to do.  Any suggestions?

I am having the same issue with my ipad 3 with retina display and my iphone 5 (both iOS 8.1.2).  Text messages received on my iphone will be forwarded to my ipad, however imessages will not. Also, some contacts that i can Imessage on my iphone (blue contacts) show up as grey, red or green on my ipad and it wont allow me to imessage them anymore.
I have tired all of the apple support remedies to no avail, including a full reset of both devices. No luck yet. I hope someone can figure this out for both our sakes.

  • Why is my ipad stuck in recovery mode after IOS update?  I can't get it out even after I restore.  Please help!

I did an IOS update and now my iPad is stuck in recovery mode and I can't get it out.  I have tried to restore through iTunes, but after restore it says it is still in recovery mode.  Please help!

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. The screen will go blank and then power ON again in the normal way.] It is app and data safe!

  • My iPad will no longer sync with my mac.  My iPhone and iPod are connecting fine.  Please help

The connection is working because the ipad will still charge but it will not sync.

Are you using the original cable that came with Nano and not your iPhone's cable?  Have you worked through the troubleshooting in this Apple support document?
