IPad will not sync with my Mac

Yesterday, my iPad synced just fine with my computer. Today--nothing. After the cable is plugged in, the iPad turns on, then simply shuts off. Might the problem be with the iPad or with the computer (running Lion)? I have tried rebooting the iPad and the computer several times. I have updated Lion to 10.7.1.

Do you realize that you can turn auto syncing off and on? You can also set iTunes to open when the iDevice is connected or choose for iTunes to not open when the iDevice is connected. I am assuming that when you updated to 10.7.1 a setting got messed up in iTunes Preferences.
I'm not running Lion but - launch iTunes on your Mac. Go to the the menu at the top - iTunes>Preferences>Devices. Look at the line at the bottom of that window that says "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. If there is a checkmark in that box, then iTunes will not auto sync. Turn that option off if you want iTunes to open and sync when you connect the iPad.
You will also need to check the box in iTunes that says "Open iTunes when this iPad is connected". You can check this box when the iPad is connected to your Mac and iTunes is running. Click on your iPad name on the left side under devices, then click the summary tab on the right side of the iTunes window. Then click on the "Open iTunes when ....connected". You must turn on auto syncing like I described above in order to access this option in iTunes. Otherwise the option will be greyed out and you can't select it.

  • My ipad will not sync with all my music and films in my itunes library. I have just carried out a restart and sync again but still not showing all my music or films.

My ipad will not sync with my library in itunes, i have music and films in my itunes library but they will not transfer to my ipad. I have just carried out a restart to factory settings and then sync of my back up but still no joy. Any suggestions?

Have you selected the content to sync to your iPad in your sync settings in iTunes. The content that you want to transfer must be selected (checked or "ticked") to sync out will not transfer when you sync.
For instance - if you want to sync music....
Connect the iPad to the computer and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
This applies to all content that you want to transfer from iTunes to your iPad. Make the selections in the appropriate tabs in the iTunes window on the right.

My new iPad will not sync with itunes. itunes is updated to latest version. Do I need to uninstall itunes and reinstall?

That could be a solution. Are you getting any error messages or error codes? Is the iPad recognized in iTunes? Does anything happen at all when you try to Sync? Can you provide more details?
You can try a very simple first step, quit iTunes, reboot your PC and restart the iPad.

  • My new ipad will not sync with itunes.  the device does not show up in itunes

my new ipad will not sync with itunes.  the device does not show up in itunes.  I am on a Windows system

Do you have the absolute latest version of iTunes downloaded?  If your iTunes software has not been updated in some time, your iPad will not be recognized.  With iTunes open, click on Store at the top.  Check for available downloads and if there are any, download them.  Once you've verified you have the latest software, connect your device again, and it should be recognized.

  • The contacts and calendar data on my iPod touch will not sync with my Mac

I have a 2nd generation ipod touch, and an iMac running iTunes 8.2.1.
I have been away from my mac for a few months and have entered a lot of contact and calendar info into my ipod touch.
Now, when I try to sync the contacts and calendar data on my ipod touch with my mac, the data will not sync to my mac.
Similarly, for the last couple months, the contact and calendar data on my ipod touch has not been able to sync with my mobileme account.
I cannot afford to lose the contact and calendar data on my ipod touch.
Can anyone kindly inform me how to fix this syncing problem without losing such data?

  • My "notes" on iPad will not sync with iPhone thru iCloud. What gives?

My "notes" on iphone and iPad will not sync thru iCloud. I am sure it is user error...but I can not figure it out.

It reads like this is a problem on the iOS side. On your iPhone or iPad launch the notes app, in the top left corner tap the button until you are on the Accounts page and see if iCloud is an option. If it is select that option and new notes will push to your Mac. If its not close the Notes app and go to Settings > iCloud > Notes > Toggle On. The option will now be in the notes app as described above. Side note: You may be asked to set up an iCloud email if you haven't already. Hope that helps.

  • My ipad will not sync with itunes. nothing shows up

when I plug my ipad 1 to my computer it will not sync. I would like to add my music collection to it. supposed to find it under devices, but there is not such link on my screen.  doesn't sync automatically.

On occasion, iTunes will not recognize my iPad so what I do is quit iTunes, restart the iPad and reboot my Mac and it will appear after that. You could try that first, and if you still have no success, start with this support article from Apple.
