When I go to settings/general/ the software update does not appear. My iphone updated perfectly however my ipad doesn't show the software update. This is becoming an issue with many of my apps.

Connect your iPad to iTune (computer) and Check for Updates. Backup before you proceed with update.

Restore from iTune Backup
1. Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings
2. You'll be asked twice to confirm
3. You'll see Apple logo and progress bar
4. You'll see a big iPad logo on screen
5. Configuration start
6. Set language
7. Set country
8. Select Network and input Password>Join
9. Enable Location Service>Next

22. You'll see Loading/Installing/Waiting below the Apps (iPad)
23. Sync Music/Podcast/Movies to iPad (computer)
24. Sync completed (computer)

i have an iPad 1 running v4.2. I have upgraded to iTunes 10.5 but when connecting the iPad it tells me it is at the latest version? any ideas?

Here's how to fix: (Will restore iPad!)
First you have to turn on DFU mode:
1. connect iPad to computer with USB
2. hold power button AND home button at the same time for about 10 seconds
3. release power button, but continue to hold home button for 3 more seconds
You are now in DFU mode. iTunes will ask if you want to restore. Click restore, and 1.5 will begin download then install. That is all.

PS My diognosis is that you may have jailbroken at somepoint? Cydia asks if you want to "trick" your device into thinking it is on the latest firmware, when it isn't in order to keep the jailbreak working

After upgrading to ios5 iPad will not sync

Downloaded iOS without issue. After initial errors restoring, finally got through that portion. Then had problems getting through iPad setup - got stuck on "Find my iPad" screen; rebooted device and got through that. Now the iPad will not sync with my MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard. Restored twice. Keep getting "Failed to initialize Snyc" error message.

I experienced this one time and this is what I did and it worked for me. You can try it as well and see of it works for you.
Settings>Store>Apple ID - tap on your ID and sign out. Restart your iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Go back to Settings>Store>Sign In. Then go to automatic downloads and try again.

After updating my wife's iPad to iOS6 the ipad will not connect to wifi on certain wireless routers. What can we do? Also, same for iPad mini with same router. But iPhone that has iOS5 has no problem connecting.

Need help. Before updating to latest software iOS6 the iPad had no issues connecting on our home router. After updating the iPad will not work. We have a mini iPad with same issue. Since I upgraded to OS 6 my ipad will not connect to my WiFi unless I am right next to it. if i walk more than three feet away it looses connection. I have tried the brightness, resetting the network settings, changing the channel on my router...help. I have century link in Phoenix arizona. modem/router is a
ZyXEL - PK5000Z. It seems to work ok on my work wifi.
My iphone and netbook work perfectly with it. I do have an upgrade to the software on my iphone, but I fear that will loose wifi as well.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app

    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

try this
Reboot device by pressing both the home button and sleep/wake (power) buttons at the same time for 10-15 seconds until the apple logo appears on the screen, then let go.
If that doesn't work then reset the device by going to settings/general/reset/reset all settings (or for network connection issues 'reset network settings').
(no media or data will be deleted from the device, this will only take a minute).

I have a 4th generation touch which will not upgrade. I did all the steps I could find, but have not done a reset. I have a current v of Itunes on my laptop which is on a windows operating system. What computer operating system are you using & what version of iTunes? You have to connect your iPad to your computer to update. After you update to iOS 5.x, the next time you can uipdate via wifi.

The original iPad cannot be upgraded beyond iOS 5.1.1. It simply doesn't have the hardware. There are still lots of apps in the App Store that will run on iOS 5.1.1.
You can also try downloading the apps he's interested in to iTunes on your computer. Then, go back and try to download them on the iPad. If the developer makes an older version of the software available, you'll be given the option to download that. Note that not all developers continue to offer older versions.

Try DFU Mode Restore. Open iTunes on computer, connect iPhone to computer. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release Power button, keep holding Home button until iTunes recognizes iPhone in Recovery Mode. Usually about 20 seconds time. Restore iPhone Firmware.
