IPad + Wireless Keyboard + Onscreen Keyboard?

Is there a way to tell the iPad to bring up the onscreen keyboard? The wireless keyboard connects and the onscreen keyboard disappears. I found that I can press the CD Eject button on the wireless keyboard to bring up the onscreen keyboard. What if the wireless keyboard isn't handy? Isn't there some way to bring up the onscreen keyboard from the iPad itself?

In case it helps anyone else, I found this in the manual:
Onscreen Keyboard Doesn’t Appear
If iPad is paired with a Bluetooth keyboard, or if it’s connected to the iPad Keyboard Dock, the onscreen keyboard does not appear. To cause the keyboard to appear, press the Keyboard key on the Keyboard Dock, or press the Eject key on a Bluetooth keyboard. Disconnecting the iPad Keyboard Dock, or moving the Bluetooth keyboard out of range or turning it off, will also allow the onscreen keyboard to appear.
My guess is that the bluetooth signal is reaching much further than you would expect, which explains why the onscreen keyboard won't display when the wireless keyboard and iPad are in different rooms or even separated by as much as 30 feet.
Update: This was confirmed... I ran a small test with one person at the iPad and another person walking around typing numbers on the wireless keyboard. Starting with 1,Return,2,Return,3,Return, etc. The keyboard and the iPad were literally 4 rooms (50+ feet) apart and still working together. It was pretty amazing.

  • Ever since I used an apple wireless keyboard, the onscreen keyboard will not appear

I have been using the iPad for several years. Recently I added the apple wireless keyboard. Ever since, when I do not have the apple wireless keyboard the onscreen keyboard refuses to appear. Makes entering text difficult! Wuld be happy to learn of a solution. Thanks.

Did you turn off Bluetooth after turning off the Apple Wireless Keyboard? Open Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off.
Another thing you can do is, before turning off the keyboard, select a text box on the iPad (for example, when you type an email or you type on a Safari webpage) and press Eject key on the keyboard, so the virtual keyboard will show

  • I accidentally turned off onscreen keyboard without having a wireless one. What do I do to get it back?

I accidentally turned off the onscreen keyboard without having a wireless keyboard. How do I get it back?

Elliot probably has your solution. You have to tap a text field - anywhere that text can be entered - in order for the keyboard to pop up but you can also try these basic steps
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Working with the MS Word iPad and other office apps: Onscreen keyboard will not minimize

With Microsoft's announcement today of allowing limited editing capabilities in their mobile apps, I installed the updates on my iPad.  So far, everything works great...with one exception:  The onboard keyboard will not get out of the way...won't
    minimize.
I have last year's iPad Air and was trying to use my Bluetooth keyboard with each of the MS Office IOS apps.  Consistently, across all of these apps, the keyboard would stay on the screen and the key for minimizing the keyboard had no affect, even though
my Bluetooth keyboard was linked and working.  Any other app I use automatically removes the onscreen keyboard when the Bluetooth keyboard is detected.
This does make the applications difficult and not much fun to use.
Any thoughts?  Anybody else notice the same issue?
My office has begun deploying Office 2013/365 and I know we'll have some users on iPads and other tablets, so I'm real interested in correcting this if at all possible.

    AS Tesserax said you must
disconnect your laptop from the existing wifi network
Connect to the default Apple Networkxxxxxxxxx - that is your AEX open network
Go to the Airport Utility and set the AEX router to extend the Existing Network >> in the AirPort Tab > Wireless Tab >> Wireless Mode - choose your Linksys network and enter credentials - your AEX should now join the Linksys network
Then switch back to your original wifi network and your AEX should show in the AirPort utility as well, extending the range of your Linksys network, green light on
PS: Win XP support for WP2 authentication downright *****. Even with SP3, get ready for some "cannot connect" warnings. My Dell laptop from work would have major issues connecting to my home's AirPort WPA2. I had to downgrade to WPA at some point.

  • IPad does only show a few keys in onscreen keyboard

The onscreen keyboard sometimes only shows 5 or 6 random keys. THE rest is a grey background. Typing blind is not my favourite.

Try copy and paste it into the post from the photos app. Tap and hold down on the screenshot/phot and the copy option will pop up. Copy the photo and come back to the post and paste it.
There are apps that you can use like Photo Bucket where you upload the photo to web and then link to it here in your reply but try copy and paste.

  • My onscreen keyboard disappeared and it won't come back.  I rebooted twice and still nothing?

    Perhaps it's time to restore.

  • Activating onscreen keyboard while connected to bluetooth keyboard

    Hi,
I have the Apple bluetooth keyboard connected to my iPad 2 and I was wondering if there was way to activate the onscreen keyboard other then pressing the eject key on the top right of the bluetooth keyboard. Its not a concern when I'm close to the keyboard but when I'm further away and want to type something quick without the bluetooth keyboard it can become a hassle. I don't want to disconnect the keyboard and reconnected it either. Any input would be appreciated.

I have found another post that talk similar topic.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12847503#12847503
Looks like the only solution are to either physically turn on/off (the keyboard) or press the eject button on physical keyboard. But when I am at the password screen, swiping up from bottom will not bring up the Control Center to allow me to turn off the bluetooth onscreen. Again I need to open the physical keyboard.
Probably an easier solution is to simply remember to turn off bluetooth before putting away the devices.

  • When I disconnect my bluetooth keyboard, Safari and Notes won't open the onscreen keyboard

Hi, on iOS 7 when I've dismissed the onscreen keyboard because I'm using my Bluetooth one, but then disconnect my Bluetooth keyboard, I can't get the on-screen one to pop up again in some applications like Safari and Notes. Other applications such as Mail are unaffected.
I Googled this a lot but mostly what comes up are "x tips and tricks for ios 7" articles which don't have anything to do with the problem. The only relavent result that I found recommended I restart my iPad. OK, so I restart my iPad and now the software keyboard works in Safari... That's ridiculous! I don't even want to use my bluetooth keyboard if I have to restart the iPad every time for when I'm not using it!
This apparently affects all bluetooth keyboard models, I use a Logitech FabricSkin folio, but I also have tried it with my Apple Bluetooth keyboard with the same problems.
Tapping in the text area used to bring the keyboard back up, but no more.
Please tell me there is some alternate solution, or a gesture to bring up the keyboard, or something? This is probably the stupidest thing I've seen in iOS 7.
    Thanks

I also have the same problem.  If you turn off Bluetooth, the virtual keyboard won't come back, especially if you're using Bluetooth speakers as well.  Heck, it even rebooted my iPad when I tried this.
I'm very tempted to dump my iPad + Logitech Keyboard if this doesn't get resolved in a timely manner.

  • Onscreen keyboard is all !!!! In some apps

is anyone having problems with their onscreen keyboard? In some apps all of the etters are replaced with ! so its guesswork to try and type anything. The numbers and emoticons are ok.

Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • Onscreen keyboard doesn't display all characters in QWERTY mode in iOS7

Since installing iOS7, the onscreen keyboard has been sluggish.   Tonight, all of a sudden, the onscreen keyboard doesn't display all characters on the keys in QWERTY mode - only the B, N, comma, and period keys show their characters on their key face.  All of the other white keys are blank.  When you press one of the blank keys, the character does display on the key face momentarily and does show in the text box that you are typing in.   This only seems to occur in QWERTY mode.  If you switch to QWERTZ or AZERTY software keyboard layouts, the keys do display their characters on their key face.  If you split the keyboard in QWERTY mode the all keys display normally.  This occurs in any application.
    We've tried:
    Turning off and turning off
Resetting by holding the sleep/wake and home button
    Settings->General->Reset->Reset All Settings
Nothing has worked so far...  Help!

Thanks Carolyn, we are going to try and 'Restore the iPad' tonight.  We went to an Apple store this afternoon - they haven't seen this before and suggested the same thing, to try and 'Restore the iPad'.

  • How to lock onscreen keyboard and still access multi-touch functionality?

I want to keep the onscreen keyboard locked and yet be able to use the delete, copy, move, select functions etc that become active only when there is no onscreen keyboard. Any way to do this? If not I hope the folks at Apple add this in their next update. Pretty basic need if one is a power user and wants to edit and enter data quickly.
Also: Drag and drop data from 1 table to another in the same tab would be hugely useful. Can't do it at the moment.
    Cheers.

I know of no way to do it now. If you want to make a suggestion to Apple go here:

  • Colon and Semi Colon - OnScreen Keyboard

Is there a way to type a colon or semi colon using the iPad Onscreen Keyboard? If not this seems like a pretty serious oversight

    jinksjohnson wrote:
The point IS, there is NO colon or semi-colon on the ipad keyboard.
Can anyone explain why this is?
I suggest you ask Apple to add this using the feedback channel:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html
When you do so, make sure you specify exactly what kind of text fields in what apps you are referring to, because in the places where people do most of their typing (email subject and text, web browsers, and word processors)  there is no problem finding those characters using the 123 key.

  • Onscreen keyboard

Hi All, when using a physical keyboard, can you remove the onscreen keyboard display? Many thanks...

I have  a Zagg external keyboard, and as soon as the iPad senses the active bluetooth, it 'retracts' the onscreen keyboard and defaults to the external one.
