Ipad won't charge...help!

Hi folks,
I have an ipad that I use for work that has seemingly given up the ghost. It was low on charge on Friday but I hadn't got my charger so I simply left it in the office to charge down as I have dozens of times before.
This morning I plugged it in and left it to charge.  When I came to it at lunch though it wouldn't turn on. After observing it it seems to be stuck in a loop. It charges just enough to turn on but the boot up process burns off the charge and before it completes the battery dies.
I've now tried half a dozen different chargers which all have the same effect. There is also not enough charge for me to reset it, what do I do?
Why can't it be like everything else and turn on when I want it to rather than as soon as I plug the bleeding thing in?!

Could be the charger, cable or iPad. Plug the USB cable into your computer. It may say "Not Charging", however, it is charging slowly and will verify that the cable is good. If your computer/iTunes does not recognize the iPad, then the cable is probably bad.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

My iPad won't charge after plugging into my computer and after holding down the power and home button at same time for 10 seconds… Can anybody help? Has IOS7.0 but not the most up-to-date version

It's just the battery sign - nothing else. I've tried to reboot by holding down both power and home key for 10+ seconds, waiting for the apple logo - but nothing happens. It's plugged into the imac at the moment. I tried to recharge it overnight using the normal charger - but no luck. It went dead during a Skype call with a friend - even though it was powered into the mains - albeit at a low battery level at the time

  • My iPad Retina 4th Gen. won't charge Help!! :(

Please refer to the details below:
Device: iPad (4th Gen) WIFI + Cellular 32GB (No External Damages)
Accessories: "Brand New" Genuine Apple Lightning Cable 1M and 12W Adapter (Bundled w/ the iPad)
    iOS Version: 7.1.1 (Latest)
    Scenario:
My old cable broke so I decided to buy a new one, but then when I tried to charge my iPad using my newly bought cable and my 12w adapter, my iPad won't charge! I've tried the cable on both orientations since lightning cables are reversible yet to no avail still my device won't charge. At first, maybe it is my 12w adapter that is broken so I tried another good known 12w adapter but still my iPad won't charge. Running out of options, I called a friend who has a newly bought iPad 4th Gen and tried out my accessories, her iPad is CHARGING!! actually it fully charged her iPad! So my accessories are really working fine! Tried my cable and 12w adapter to different lightning devices and all devices where charging and syncing. I've aslo tried to plug the ipad to my computer using my newly bought cable and surprisingly it is charging and detected by itunes. But I know it really takes time charging on the computer and I'm really confused why my iPad will charge on a computer but NOT when using my adapter plugged on a wall socket which practically is weird since it is confirmed that my accessories are working. I've tried other brand new lightning cables still it won't charge on the wall using the adapter.
    Isolations Made:
    12w adapter = Confirmed Working
    Lightning Cable = Confirmed Working
iPad (4th Gen) = Already done "Cleaning the ports" ,"Restart" , "Reset" and "Complete Restore including DFU Restore"
Buttom Line: iPad will charge on the computer but NOT on the wall socket using the 12w adapter and same cable

    - Did you everset up yur iPod on the "new" computer? To do thatyou need to either mrestore the iPod from a backup on the computer or restore the iPod to factory defaults/new iPod.
    - Is the computerauthorized for the iitem in the iTunes library?
    - Is the iPod signed into that account?

  • TS3274 My iPad won't charge. Tried more than one charger.

My IPad won't charge. I tried more then more charger...help. Plus the sound is missing for general purposes...lock sound, etc. already tried to turn on an off.

Have you tried a reset to see if it charges after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
In terms of the sounds, have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT408

  • My ipad won't charge.  All I get is picture of white USB cable and iTunes Logo.

My ipad won't charge.  I must admit, I did use it until there was only 2% power left and then went and plugged directly into power and not through PC... but it won't charge.  All I get is picture of white USB cable, an arrow and the iTunes Logo.  I have turned off and on again as previous posts but all I get is the picture of the USB cable, arrow and iTunes logo.  Please help...

I have been relatively patient - 3 hours on charge but all it does is show picture of USB cable and itunes logo. It it were charging you would think that a picture of the charge would come up to indicate status of charge - wouldn't you think?

My iPad won't charge using the charger brick

you can try giving your device a reset and see if that helps. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try. If that doesn't fix it, then time to move onto other trouble shooting.
Usually if an iPad won't charge (presuming you're using the supplied charger plugged into the wall), it's:
    bad brick
    bad cable
    bad outlet
    bad port on the iPad
you can eliminate the first three by swapping out chargers if you have another, swapping out cables and trying a different outlet. If you do that and eliminate the first three, then it may be the port on your iPad. If so, and your iPad is still under warranty, make an appointment at your local apple store and take it in.

  • IPad won't charge or stay on when plugged in.

My iPad won't charge more then 2% even when plugged into the wall overnight. Even while it's plugged in it'll turn intself off. I've tried to use an iPhone charger with no luck and tried the hard reset with the home and hold buttons many times. I only bought it in April of 2012.
Maybe just call Apple and mail it to them because I may need a new battery?
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi again:

If you are near an Apple store, take it in for diagnosis.  Apple is quite good about honoring warranties if there are hardware problems.

  • TS3274 My IPad won't charge.

My IPad won't charge. I plugged the adapter into the wall per usual. But even after sitting overnight it was still only 12% charged. Someone said you have to re-set. (How ever you do that.) But that means losing stored photos, videos, etc. Yes?
    Any answers?
    Thanks.. Val

Using the battery level meter in this manner is comparable to using your car's fuel gauge to calculate miles per gallon.  The only thing that matters is the total amount of operating time from full charge to auto-shutdown.
Use the wall-mount charger that came with the iPad and charge overnight.  Admittedly the labeling is hard to read but, if you use a magnifier and squint your eyes, you'll see "Output 5.1V, 2.1A."  The symbol between volts and amps is the symbol for DC.  Do NOT use an iPhone charger.  Do NOT use an iPod charger.  Then, operate it normally until auto shut-down (ignore any low level alerts that may appear).  An irony is that doing that test to determine the total operating time is also the exact procedure necessary to calibrate the battery level meter.
I'm not claiming that you do not have a problem.  I am stating, however, that we don't yet know whether or not a battery problem exists.
    According to Apple:
    Use Your iPad Regularly
For proper reporting of the battery’s state of charge, be sure to go through at least one charge cycle per month (charging the battery to 100% and then completely running it down).
Elsewhere, Apple elaborates and explains that two half-discharges (or four quarter-discharges, etc.) equals one full discharge.

  • What do you do if ipad won't charge?

what do you do if ipad won't charge?

First, try to plug your iPad into the USB port of your pc (if it's a lap top it has to be pugged in). If that charges the battery than you just need a new wall charger.  If that doesn't work than you probably need a new iPad because the battery is dead. Just take it to an Apple Store and see what they can do. They may be willing to run further diagnostics for free.

  • Help! My iPad won't charge!

Hi there, I'm a guy from China.I think I have a serious problem with my beloved iPad.
A friend of mine bought an iPad in April in the US and sent it to me back in China. I love it very much.Every thing goes fine and the iPad has helped me a lot during my school time. But a couple of days ago, it suddenly went wrong: IT WON'T CHARGE!
Well, actually, it still charges, but at a very very slow rate, about 1% a hour. The fact is killing me. Also, it won't be recognized by the iTunes, the iPad's screen won't display any information when it's connected to my iMac or the iPad AC adapter or my iPhone's AC adapter or any other USB ports.
I've tried every single method I can think of to solve the problem, but still nothing works.
    I've found a similar problem here, http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2438359&tstart=-2
[ Used iPad for 10 days and suddenly it won't charge thru computer or even AC adaptor. Can't recognized iTunes. Apple system profile doesn't show it is connected.
Try every single method such as reset content and setting, boot into recovery mode, reinstall iTunes... Still nothing happened...
    Anyone could help? ]
But that guy got lucky and solved it with a "cold" (full) reboot, and mine seems not. I've already cold rebooted it for 3 times, nothing happened.
We have an Apple Retail Store here, about 100 miles from where I'm living. But the guys told me that since this particular iPad was bought in the US and currently there are no official iPad sold here in China yet. So they won't give my iPad the warranty.
It would be very inconvenient for me to send it back to the US and have it sent back after repair.
So, anyone can help with my iPad? Thanks.

The exact same thing happened to me. All of a sudden, it stopped charging. Everybody tried to tell me it was that I was using the wrong charger (not 10W) or not plugging it into the wall. I went out and bought new iPad chargers in the event it was the charge, not the iPad - to no avail. I called Support, and ended up having to take the iPad to the Apple Store. They are replacing it.
Having read your blog, I believe this is not a random occurrence. My bet is that others are experiencing the same thing. It is a shame that Apple won't do anything to help you.

  • TS3274 Original iPad won't charge, won't update and iTunes won't recognize

I have one of the first generation iPads that won't charge unless it is completely drained of power.  Also if after it shuts off from 0% power ifr any reason it gets turned back on while plugged in, it stops charging and won't continue to charge until the device is completely drained again. Also iTunes won't recognize the device AND it is operating under iOS 5.1.1 and says the software is up to date and won't update at all.  I have tried different plugs, different computers, nothing works.  Is my iPad just too old?

The failure to update isn't an issue. The iPad one is maxed out at 5.1.1.
The other issues may be an issue with the battery, or charging port or software inside. You may want to make an appointment to get it checked out, but even if what's broken is a manufacturer's defect you're outside of any warranty so the most you'll get is the offer of an out of warranty replacement for a fee. might ultimately be cheaper to put that money towards a new device.
Have you tried to give your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that helps.

  • My iPad won't charge

My iPad 2 won't charge (just upgraded to iOS 7). How do I get it to charge again?

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
Make sure the cable, connector, charger and wall outlet are all good. Try alternates to verify. Check to make sure there is no dust or dirt in the socket on the iPad. If none of these helps and you are trying to charge from a known good wall outlet, I suggest having an Apple technician take a look at your iPad.
Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.
