IPad won't play or delete some songs

I need some help.  I have an iPad 4 running iOS 6.1.  I had some music on it which I had downloaded from the iTunes music store (iCloud).  Everything was fine until today.  I had just downloaded a song from iTunes (iCloud) and I noticed the music app showed two copies of the song.  I swiped to delete and one copy went away.  The problem was that the other copy wouldn't play.  It just skipped to the next song.  I couldn't delete it either.  It just wouldn't go away.  I eventually tried connecting to my PC and doing various syncs with iTunes on my PC but nothing makes it go away.  I can sync the song back from iTunes on my PC, but that just gives me two copies again.  Furthermore, I have two more songs like that that I've found.  One of them was another song I downloaded from iTunes (iCloud) to test something while trying to get the first song to go away.  Same thing.  I saw two copies of the song appear instead of one, deleted one and the other copy stays there and cannot be deleted. These songs are invisible in iTunes on my computer when I connect it to my iPad.
I've tried turning it off and on with the music app stopped (hold down the button to see running apps, hold the icon, click the minus).  I've tried the reset (hold both buttons for 10 seconds).  I've tried backing up and restoring from iTunes with various settings based on forum threads I have read.  I've synced music multiple times.  Nothing has worked.  The only two things I can think of I have not tried are restoring to factory settings and restoring from a previous iCloud backup.
One thing I have seen searching on the net is that this seems to happen a lot with iTunes Match.  I DO NOT and have NEVER had iTunes Match.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem you are having and got it solved. In fact, this also helped me solving the " iTunes cannot backup ... because a backup can't be saved on the computer" I long had!
My issue was related to iMatch.
I had deleselected iMatch on the configuration on my iPad, waited until it synched, and then deleted all other songs yet on my library. After all cleaned up, accessing the Music app would give the message "no songs...".
Then I re-selected iMatch and waited for it to sync again. A few minutes later, to my surprise, there were all the very same songs. They showed up as download and once again, they couldn't be deleted nor played. This was cleary a iMtach bug!
I went to my Mac and opened iTunes. I located those few songs that wouldn't play or couldn't be deleted in the iPad on my iTunes Master library. I notice that their Cloud icon had an exclamation mark on. I simply copied them to another folder (just select and move it to your desktop or folder), then I asked to delete it each one of them both from my library as well as iMatch. To do this you have to select the option "hide from iMatch" or something like it.
As I was doing it, I could see them synching and disapearing from my iPad at the same time. Finally I got rid of them!
As result, I could also finally backup my iPad.
I am still working on getting theses songs backs to my list, I will either rip again from my CDs or just move them back from the folder I initially saved them.
Hope that helps!

  • Can't play either delete some songs on iPad

Well I don't remember if a had this problem before updating to iOS 6 or after but some of my songs on the iPad library won't play and I can't either delete them. There are like 8 songs that won't play, if a select on of those songs nothing happens not even the album image (artwork) appears and after that it jumps to the next song. When I select on of those songs it takes like 10 sec to play another song like if it gets stuck. Even if I accidentally tap on one of those error songs and then I tap another one that plays it takes time to respond. The worst thing is that I can't even delete them, I was planing to delete them so I could download them later and the red spot doesn't appears when I move finger from left to right. Not even on my iTunes. I connected the iPad to sync every song but instead I erased every song and a went back to the iPad library and only those 8 songs were still there. Is this a joke? Someone else has this problem? Please respond

Yes there is. Those songs are not actually on your iPad. They are in iCloud ready for download if you choose to do so. If you want to remove them go to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Show All>Music>Off. You can also do this in Settings>Music>Show All Music>Off.

Music on my iPhone has become very difficult to edit since upgrading to 5.0.1.  If I simply want to delete some songs, it insists on a complete sync cycle after EACH one I delete.  This is so annoying… (I have over 400 Christmas songs I won't need until next year) I have also noticed it randomly keeps updating album artwork…adding more time to each sync.  Is there some way I can turn off the syncing until I have picked and deleted all the songs I want?

The cause was probably a USB glitch during a sync or when copying. The music resides on the phone in separate files. A master file contains a database with an index to the music, an entry for each track and a "pointer" to the file containing the track. Somehow the index got corrupted with duplicate entries. It's likely that the music itself wasn't duplicated, but some tracks had more than one entry in the database. I've seen this happen when syncing (rather than manually managing) also. In my case deleting the track from the Music tab in iTunes, syncing, then adding it back fixed it.
A related problem I've seen is an album may be split, with some tracks in each of 2 or more album entries in the listing. Fixed the same way.

    Hi,
    Have you tried a reset?
This solves a lot of these problems, and I'm not sure if this will work in your case, but give it a try. You hold down the sleep and home buttons at the same time. A slider will appear. Ignore it and keep holding both buttons down. After about 15 seconds the Apple logo will appear. See if that helps.
You will not lose anything on your ipad when you do a reset. (A restore is a whole other issue!)
The following link addresses your issue and offers some other possible solutions.

  • Library won't play more than one song at a time

What gives? My iTunes suddenly won't play a sequence of songs. Not from the library as a whole, not from any playlist. The files are all still there and I can highlight and play any ONE, but iTunes won't then go on to the next. Tried 'select all', that didn't work either. What setting have I accidently changed? Just downloaded the newest iTunes just in case, but that didn't help. Still only 1 song at a time. Makes using iTunes as background pretty useless.

Are you saying that when you hit PAUSE the song doesn't stop playing?
If you want to jump to a different song while one is already playing, you don't need to hit pause/stop at all. Simply go to the song you want to here, double click it and the song that was playing will stop and the double clicked song will start. No need to use the Stop/Pause/Play type controls at all.

    Hey renie1515,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.
Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90-day timer. You must wait 90 days from the day the device was first associated with your Apple ID before it can be associated with another Apple ID.
    Have a nice day,

  • I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs. What do I do?

I have just updated my iTunes and it won't play any of my songs, It will say that it is but the time does not move along and the sound does not play. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but it hasn't worked. What do I do?

    Hey B Noir!
Changing the 3D worked for me!
I am so glad that I ran across your post. I had been reading "solutions" to this problem all day, and most of them said to install/unistall/re-install itunes! No way! I knew there had to be an easier way, and you had it. Just a few clicks, and that was it.
    Thank you for your help!
    God bless.

  • My iPod Nano is full and I need to delete some songs.  How do I do this?

How do I delete songs from the iPod Nano?  It is full and I want to delete some songs.  The Apple help page did not help.

Attach iPod to computer > launch iTunes. Be sure that "Manually manage music" is selected in Options. This is so that, once the files are deleted, the iPod will not be automatically synced and present you with the same problem:
Look at the list of songs in your Ipod (not in the iTunes listing!):
Select the songs to delete by highlighting (single click) then press "Delete" or Control + click [or right click] and select "Delete" from the contextual menu.

  • I want to delete some songs from iTunes but no delete button appears when i right click or when i try to delete it from edit. what can i do?

I want to delete some songs from iTunes but no delete button appears when i right click or when i try to delete it from edit. what can i do?

If the songs are downloaded into your iTunes library (i.e. they don't have the cloud icon against them) then you should be able to delete them by selecting them and pressing the delete button on your keyboard.
If they do have the cloud icon then they are in the cloud - you can turn off the showing of all icloud music via the 'Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases' on the Store tab in iTunes > Preferences (command-comma), or you can hide individual tracks and/or albums so that they don't show in the cloud : iTunes Store: Hiding and unhiding purchases.

If you are playing music from the computer to your iPad using Home Sharing your computer must be on.

  • Deleting some songs from iphone 4s

I am trying to delete some songs that showed up on my iphone4s since I updated to ios7.
I have turned off the "show all music" feature and any other feature that automatically adds anything to my phone.
I have at least 2 songs on my phone that I can not delete. Swiping them on the phone doesn't do anything. When I open itunes on my computer and look at "on this iphone" and they are not listed in the list of songs so I can not delete them from there. The songs are listed in the songs in the main itunes listing. They are songs that my daughter purchased so I would rather not delete completely, just want to get them off my phone.
    Thanks

amen i have the exact problem - is there an answer?

  • I cannot delete some songs from 4s and I already tried to sweep and delete will hook to my lap top

I cannot delete some songs from my 4s phone and have tried all the suggestions posted.

    Hey uwscottc,
Thanks for the question. I understand that you are experiencing issues with your iPhone in relation to music. Does the music that appeared on your device have a cloud symbol next to it when viewed in “Songs”? If so, it sounds like these songs are not yet downloaded to your phone. Instead, it sounds like you have the “Show All [Music]” setting enabled (by default in iOS 7):
    iPhone User Guide
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/
Just show music that’s been downloaded from iCloud. Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • IPad won't play sound with video? Will play music and radio apps, but not if there is a video component. Same for my iTunes movies.

Help! My iPad won't play any audio when there is a video component to an app or game.   It will play my music and I can see the video on my movies, but not the movie sound.   Turning off and turning it on again worked as a temporary fix once, but now that is not working either.   Been going on for an week or two?

Try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
