  • Ipad won't start after updating to ios 8.1.3

My iPad was working without issue prior to updating to IOS 8.1.3 yesterday. After updating, not only would the ipad not start, it produced intermittent tones. The tone heard when device is plugged into an outlet for charging.
I attempted to turn the device off but it would not respond. Afterwards, a reboot was attempted numerous times by holding the home and sleep buttons down simultaneously. Once the Apple logo appeared the buttons were released, the logo disappeared but the device remained dormant.
While connected to iTunes and emitting the connection tones, periodically the splash screen would appear momentarily then turn off. I was able to swipe the screen on one of these occasions. The device worked properly until it was turned off after use at which time it would not turn on again and remains unable to turn on. It does not respond to attempts to turn it off or rebooting.
Prior to the update I did backup the device in case something like this would occur. Since I appear to have exhausted all my options to get the device to work, I feel the only remaining option is to restore it to factory default. I would appreciate advice from anyone who may either have experienced this same issue and found a resolution, or can provide thoughts on how I should proceed please.
If I proceed with a restore to factory default followed by a restore of the most recent backup, will I lose any data during this process? This will be my first time to erase a device so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. I would, of course, prefer an alternative resolution. Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hello, Tony.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iPad no long starts after an update and you have a backup for your iPad.  It sounds like you will need to restore the device to factory and then will have the option to access your backup after the restore complete.  The only information that should be missing would be after the backup was completed until the device is restored.  I have included the steps for going through this process in the articles below.

  • Ipad 2 won't charge after ios 7.0.3 update

After the ios 7.0.3 update, I had to restore my ipad2. Now, it won't charge. I have tried different plugs and outlets. I have also reset it and restored it, again. Nothing worked. Has anyone had this problem and any luck fixing it?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • IPad 2 battery drain after iOS 5.0.1 update!!!

iPad 2 battery is draining way too fast after the 5.0.1 update - I've lost over 10% just browsing the apple site over wifi for about 10 minutes - with no other apps running. NOT ACCEPTABLE APPLE!!!
Same issue with my iPhone 4 that went from 62% when I went to bed last night to completely dead this morning - unused!!
Apple - roll 5.0 back out to replace this battery leech. I need to be able to actually USE my products.

    Shirley 123 wrote:
Same issue here! I've been reading on my fully-charged iPad and the battery is down to 78%. Never did this before the latest update. Yesterday, iPad quit before my usual evening reading!  Any solutions!
I have personally seen the problem and corrected it on numerous models now including the 4S, 4, 3GS and iPad 2s.  Corrupt system level settings created by an iOS 5 bug in the original release that caused battery recalibration issues, etc.  Just installing the update does not fix the issue in most cases (sometime it initially can be worse).  You need to clear out those settings and recalibate the battery.  For those still having the "standby battery drain" issue follow the procedure below in order.  It does fix the problem in most cases.
Go through these steps to address the battery after updating to iOS 5.0.1:
    1. Reset all settings (settings app-> general-> reset)
    2. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). At this point, Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)
    3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd
    4. Fully discharge battery  (tilll it shuts off with the spinning wheel)
    5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)
In my experience this improves the Standby battery drain issue significantly in most cases.  It reduces drain from 2-4% or more per hr to 0.5% or less. It has worked for many, many users now. If it does not work after a few try's you may have a real battery or hardware issue and should contact Apple.  Good Luck!

  • Laptop won't start after cutting out during an update

    Dear All,
My laptop cut out during a software update (I think the battery died, although the screen readout said I had plenty of life left) and since then it won't start up. When I turn it on it just goes to the grey screen with the apple logo and the little circular symbol showing that it's thinking about something, the one that normally comes up before the sign-in box appears.
I have attempted to start from my OS X installer disc 1, but after a lot of noisey chugging, nothing further happened (except that my disc is now stuck in the drive).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hannah.singh: Both the Repair Disk routine in Disk Utility and the fsck routine that you've now run check the structure of the file system on your hard drive. In essence, they're checking to see that every item listed in the disk's invisible directory is actually where the directory says it is. Neither utility can or will alert you if a necessary file has gone missing (because, for example, an updater has deleted it and not replaced it with a new version), or if an incomplete update has left incompatible system files in place that will prevent the computer from starting up, or keep some other essential operation from being performed. These utilities aren't designed to discover whether there is actually a bootable operating system in place; they only tell you whether the disk directory matches the actual contents of the disk, and if not, whether they've been able to patch it so the two do match.
So if you were applying an update that altered any system files before it was interrupted, it's possible that the operating system on your computer is now unusable even though the directory is in fine shape and all the hardware checks out too.
Under the circumstances, I recommend starting up from your latest OS X installer CD/DVD and performing an Archive & Install.

Hi, my I pad air switched off and cannot turn back on after i accepted the install of the latest ios  version. can anyone help to switch the ipad air on .

  • Ipad won't sync after iOS 7.03 update: Other is huge and over capacity

When iOS7 was updated last week (7.0.3) the update went fine on my iphone 5s but was interupted on my iPad.
Now, when I connect the iPad via cable to my desktop Mac, it will not sync.  It connects to the iPad just fine, but the "changes" cannot be applied because it shows that the amount of data to be transfered to the 64GB iPad is "Over Capactiy by 31.37GB."  A total of 45.2GB of "Other" is indicated on the summary page in iTunes in a yellow band.
(A sync from the same ID, same iTunes library with the same settings, with the iPhone 5S of the same capacity (64GB) has NO trouble completing properly.  It shows only 1.62 GB of "Other."
I have tried restoring the iPad from a previous back up. No good.
I have tried restoring the iPad to a new, factory issued condition, set it up as if it were a new iPad and tried to sync.  No good.
I have changed the sync setting so that NO video or audio tracks are to be synced (freeing enough space for all of the bloated, "Other" category.)  Stiill ends up stuck perpetually in Syncing iPad - Step 4 of 4 - "Waiting for changes to be applied"
    Any suggestions?
    SERIOUSLY frustrated.

I am having the exact same issue except with the iPhone 4s.
    "Other" shows 34.88GB
I tried everything you did, short of factory reset, since I read elsewhere that won't work.

  • IPod won't start after iOS 5.0 failed install

I have an iPod Touch, 4th generation (4.3.5, not jailbroken), and an ASUS laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. Around noon today, I downloaded the iOS 5.0 upgrade and attempted to install it. I got an error 3200 from iTunes, so I Googled on the matter. I found a result on a forum saying to just try again every few minutes, so I tried again, and a third time, after which I no longer received the error. After much waiting, it had finally wiped the iPod clean.
I then got an error 1602; after clicking okay, the iPod was in recovery mode (I think? It has the adapter + iTunes logo on the screen...), and it did not show up on my iTunes sidebar (as in, I couldn't access its interface to sync/update/transfer/etc.). I noticed then that Windows didn't recognize it either, as it usually does. Unplugging/plugging it in produces the little chime to let you know it's there, but it is not listed as a device.
I restarted my computer (no luck), reinstalled the driver software (luck failed once more), reinstalled iTunes and all of the Apple suite, including the Mobile Device manager, and am still pulling my hair out over this.
I did perform a full backup and purchase transfer from the beginning so I hope I haven't lost anything.
So here's what I need to do:
    1) Get iTunes/Windows to recognize the device.
    2) Restore the iPod.
    3) Get iOS 5.0 on it.
Any ideas on where to start?

I have the same problem and read where one person turned off ICloud.  I do not have I Cloud activated so I went ahead and turned off WiFi.  Now it is syncing.
It used to not get past Step 1 of Syncing and it would say "Fail to Sync" or something like that.

  • IPad won't start after iOS7 upgrade and reset

    Hi,
I have just tried to upgrade to iOS7 through WiFi. No luck. So I upgraded via iTunes. When it finally was finished, I tried to turn on my iPad, but it wouldn't. It gets stuck at the Apple logo with a loading bar just under it. I did a full reset on iTunes and I can only get to the loading bar (which won't load).. Any suggestions?

I was experiencing the same thing.  This article worked for me, hopefully it will help you.
    http://ipad.about.com/od/iPad_Troubleshooting/ss/What-To-Do-When-Your-Ipad-Wo-No t-Turn-On.htm
Hold both the home button and the wake/suspend button down at the same time. You should see the Apple logo appear on your screen after holding these buttons down a couple of seconds, which means your iPad is booting up and should be good to go in a few more seconds.

  • IPad won't restore after iOS 7.1.2

Finally downloaded the 7.1.2 update but I wish I hadn't. After downloading on my iPad 3, I got the "connect to iTunes screen." Once there, iTunes says my ipad is in recovery mode and i need to download a(nother) software update. 45 minutes later, after downloading the entire file, I get a file corrupter err 1403 message. I tried again. 45 minutes later, the same result. i turned off my firewall. same thing. Apple wants to charge me $20 to chat with a service tech (after THEIR update fried my iPad). Any help from someone NOT affiliated with Apple would be appreciated.

  • My iPad Air is useless after iOS 7.1.2 update

I was updating my iOS to the new version 7.1.2, in my iPad air, and after while the screen changed to the iTunes icon in the center with the connector to plug in. I did the connection to my iTunes, followed the instructions, and a message pops up informing that my iPad could not be recovered. What I can do?
I already did this several times:  Hold the Sleep/Wake and Home button down together until you see the Apple Logo.

    Hi BrLion,

  • IPad 2 iBooks unresponsive after iOS 8.1.1 update

After updating to iOS 8.1.1 on my iPad 2 this morning, iBooks fails to launch properly. It seems to freeze with a blank screen (no Library), then the iPad goes back to my home screen. Double-pressing the Home button shows my iBooks Library window, but when I switch to it iBooks is completely unresponsive.  I have shut down and restarted my iPad, but the same thing happens.
    Any suggestions?

Owner of an iPad 2 here with iOS 8.1.1. It sounds like the iBooks app has been corrupted somehow, as it works fine on my tablet.
Did you upgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 8 on the iPad over the air? The reason I ask, and this applies to ANY operating system, is that garbage from an older version can be carried through into the newer version giving exactly the kind of problems you describe. I would recommend that for any new major release of an OS to scrub the device and set it up as a new machine. This is a short-term P.I.T.A. but it does help preempt these kinds of niggles.
In your case let's try the non-drastic approach first: if you can, uninstall the iBook app and then reinstall it via the App store. This usually fixes minor annoyances, but if the iPad persistently misbehaves, nuking it via iTunes might be your best bet. Backup your stuff before you do that, though.

  • After ios 8 update has anyones ipad started randomly selecting everything? Even after ios 8.0.1 update it has still continued to do the same thing.

After ios 8 update has anyones ipad started randomly selecting everything? Even after ios 8.0.1 update it has still continued to do the same thing making it immpossible to use ipad anymore. Has anyone had the same problem and/or knows how to fix this?

Try a Reboot pess & hold power button & menu button hold both down until you see Apple Logo you will not lose any data This may help but the ipad 2 is a bit under powered for iOS 8 If you can a very good buy now is the iPad Air 32G Since they brought the new one out the price for this model Has come down by £120.00 That's the one I am using and it works great on iOS 8.1 Bsydd uk
