IPad won't sync. Using "too much power". Help?
When I go to plug my 4th gen iPad into my Macbook Pro, it says I need to unplug the USB device using too much power, referring to my iPad. It has always worked before but as of late i have not been able to connect my iPad in order to sync it. Any Help, thoughts, suggestions greatly appreciated.
Do your cameras support Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) and/or USB Mass Storage Device Protocol (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4106), and if so do you need to change a camera menu setting in order to enable it ?

HT4101 My ipad says the device uses too much power when I connect my camera
I brought my ipad 2 on holidays and have purchased the camera connection kit. I tried to download my photos and an error message came up saying that the device uses too much power! My ipad is powered up to 100% and I have closed any open files and it still says the same thing? Does this actually work or do I have to return it?
What have you connected to the kit ? The amount of power that is supplied to the kit is limited, and can't be changed - and a lot of card readers and cameras need more power than is supplied to it. If you have connected the kit directly to your camera then does your camera have a setting to enable 'mass storage device' and/or PTP (picture trasnfer protocol or pictbridge) ?

Has anyone found a way to download pictures fro Samsung Galaxy 3 phone to the Ipad air? I bought the lightning adapter but I keep getting the message device uses too much power. Any ideas?
You can't directly from a Galaxy phone. But you can certainly upload the pictures from your Galaxy phone to your computer and then sync them to your iPad via iTunes.

I am not very familiar with the ipad2. I wished to transfer some photos from my pc (not an apple pc but that is the only one I have) to my ipad2 as I thought it would be easier to cull them, edit, crop etc to create albums for our recent trip (the photos are already on the pc and no longer on the camera memory card). When I place the usb stick on the adaptor and stick it onto the Ipad2 I keep getting 'device uses too much power/ requires too much power' message. I read somewhere on the internet that a usb hub could be used to solve the issue but that did not work either. What am I doing wrong? Is there actually a way around this problem. If not why does apple sell this product for Ipad users at all?
Thank you for any help/ solution you can offer.
RegardsI'd ask that on the iPad forum.

I tried to export photos from iMac to iPad using a USB flash drive. The photos are on the drive but when I plug it into the iPad, the iPad says the device requires too much power. Any ideas of what type of USB flash drive I should use?
You can transfer photos outside of iTunes. I do it all the time. THat said, i have a 50/50 success rate with them. I'd avoid sandisk and kingston, their bundled software triggers the 'too much power' warning.
I've had mixed luck with lexar, some work, some don't.
I did have good luck with an older 4 gig geek squad one.
Look for drives without software on them, without bright LED lights and I haven't gotten any larger than 4 gig to work, but that may just be me.
For a less troublesome way? h onestly, I use a SD card that I've formatted with the DCIM folder. I've never had one of them trigger the 'too much power' warning. Just make sure they're not SDXC. those don't work. -
When I connect my Ipad mini to my camera via lightning to usb camera adapter all i get is a message "The attached accessory uses too much power."Any solutions
It depends on the camera, but some have a special mode for offloading photos but not trying to charge the camera through the USB port. For others, you may have to pull out the SD card (if that's what it uses) and use the Lightning to SD card reader instead.
Maybe if you told us what camera you are connecting, somebody here with the same model can give you more specific information. -
Ipad2 Camera Connection Kit
When I connect using the USB option I get a screen on the ipad which says "Accessory Unavailable. The attached accessory uses too much power"
What should I do please?
DavidI believe your camera uses a micro SD card. The CCK accepts the full size SD card. Do you have a SD card adapter to plug the micro into?

My iPad is tellin me I can not use the camera connector because it uses too much power..... ***
I'm having same problems. If I connect my blackberry it says it uses too much power. If I take sd card out of phone and connect that way I get the same message. The leaflet with the connector says go to Apple.com/support/iPad to find list of compatible cameras.......... I'm still trawling the site to find any such list! Just need to know if it will work with a blackberry ..... If not I've got to take it back. Have been advised by a friend to cut my losses get my money back and use Bump to transfer my pics. I don't own a traditional camera because my phone has a great one. Really don't want to have to carry a camera about with me! They don't make it easy do they!

IPad camera kit error "device uses too much power"
Got the camera kit....when I attach it I get an error that says the device uses too much power. I've shut down and restarted the iPad several times and still get the same error. Anyone know what I can do?
I have a camera that uses compact flash cards therefore I have been experimenting with card readers to avoid draining the camera battery when downloading the images to the iPad.
I have been using the USB part of the camera connection kit with a multi card reader, at first I could not get anything to work, I thought ' the not enough power reason, I sorted out a powered USB hub to try, again no good, I disconnected everything and thought one last try, I put the card in the reader, connected the USB cable to the USB part of the camera connection kit and finally inserted the whole lot into the iPad, to my surprise the light on the card reader came on and a few seconds later 70 nef files were previewed on the screen.
I repeated the above several times with the same results, I then tried two other card readers again OK, but if I just removed the card and then re inserted it nothing happened, these card readers are no name supermarket specials.
I may have been lucky but I will continue to try my method and see if it holds up to regular use, so make the physical connection to the iPad the last part of the connection process, I hope this is of some help to others. -
I got an iPad 2 and I cannot get my pictures to upload from a micro sd card as the iPad is saying device not accepted using too much power. Can anyone help? My iPad 2 is a 16 gb and my micro sd card is 4 gb
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit. First download the pics to your computer.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

You don't actually say what the problem is, but maybe this can help:
