Ipad won't sync with photos from Aperture - library cannot be found

Ok I give up. When trying to sync my photos onto my new ipad from Aperture in iTunes I keep getting the message "iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found. Open the preferences window in Aperture and enable the preference to share previews with other applications. Well the library is where it should be in the Home folder and then pictures. I have the latest version of iTunes and Aperture. The only similar setting I can find in Aperture preferences is under Previews and Share Previews with ilife and iwork, no mention of itunes?
I've gone into my Aperture show contents and deleted the cache folder ipod photo cache (I previously synced to my iphone 3GS). It works syncing to iphoto, as I have tested it and the iphoto is in the same folder as the Aperture library so they are in the right location.
I am now at a loss as to what to try next......PLEASE HELP ME....
I don't want to have to have a Aperture library and an iphoto library on the go!

Hi,
iTunes cannot sync photos to the ipad because your Aperture Library could not be found.
If you have an external drive connected to your Mac, disconnect that, restart your Mac, restart your iPad and try syncing photos from Aperture.

  • The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

The ipad won't sync some photos, saying the file can't be read by the ipad, however it will sync some photos taken at the same time which are the same size and file type.  Why does it reject some and accept others?

Hi there. I'm having the same problem: my iPad won't import some photos from a folder, saying that they can't be read. They are all JPEGS and some photos taken at the same time have synched fine, but out of a folder with 200 photos, it only lets me synch 37. I'm synching albums created via Photoshop Elements 6, which has worked fine until now.
I've tried deleting all photos and re-synching, and have also deleted the iPod Photo Cache, but it hasn't made a difference.
The iPad auto-updated to the latest version of iTunes, so maybe that's what's causing it?
    Any advice gratefully received!

  • My ipad won't sync with itunes, can anyone help

My ipod tpuch and ipad won't sync with itunes even though they are recognised by my comuter. i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes but still won't sync. How can i get my equipment to sync with itunes?

It has been shown there are problems with the latest update of iTunes and Windows computers. What you need to do is remove and reinstall iTunes, and make sure that you follow the steps in this support document exactly. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1923. If you do not follow them exactly, you will just compound your problems. Once you do this, you should have no trouble having the phone recognized in iTunes.

  • What to do if the iPad won't sync with any computer

My iPad will to sync with any computer. It says my iPad has malfunctioned. I have tried reinstalling iTunes and still nothing.

Assuming the headphones work in another device/other earphone do not work in your device.
-Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack Insert/remove the headphone plug a dozen times or so
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

My iPad can't sync with iTunes because apparently my iTunes doesn't recognise my apps! I've had the iPad for 9 months and have been syncing regularly so am not sure why it's decided there's a problem.

  • ITunes syncing lower-res versions of photos from Aperture library VS iphoto?

Today I changed my iPad's photo syncing prefs so that it would sync photos from my Aperture library as opposed to iPhoto. To my dismay I've discovered that it appears to be syncing REALLY low-resolution versions of the images compared to what it was syncing in iPhoto. Most of my shots are 21MP, and I understand that when they are synced to an iOS device, they're resized/compressed, but when I was syncing from iPhoto, I was typically able to zoom in to 2x zoom and things would still look good, whereas now that I'm syncing with Aperture, the exact same images appear to have been synced at a lower resolution than the iPad's screen!
This is NOT an issue with offline images or missing masters either.
What gives? This seems to be incredibly backwards as I imagine the majority of Aperture users would want larger versions synced, and iPhoto users wouldn't care as much. How do I resolve this? Can I?

Aha. Well I guess that solves it -- I do have my preview settings super low-res.
That's a really strange/questionable design decision. This means I'm actually better off using iPhoto or manually syncing with folders (I have good reasons for using low-res previews).
    Thanks!

  • IPad Won't Sync with MKV to MP4 720p Videos

I converted some mkv files (1280x720p x264, AC3) to mp4 using QuickTime 7 and Perian by exporting to mp4 with the video set to pass thru, and the audio set to AAC 160 Kbps 48 kHz. ITunes won't let them sync with my iPad, but it doesn't tell me why. One possible issue is that the atom (something I know nothing about) has been reported as having a length larger than the whole file by another program. Is there something I can change with my conversion method or an application on the Mac that will repair the atom?
    Thank you

I converted some mkv files (1280x720p x264, AC3) to mp4 using QuickTime 7 and Perian by exporting to mp4 with the video set to pass thru, and the audio set to AAC 160 Kbps 48 kHz.
Are you actually trying to determine the cause of the problem or just end up with a playable file? If the latter, then don't pass through the video unless you are certain it meets the Main Profile @ L3.1 (or under) standard. Otherwise, re-compress both video and audio to supported standards as specified on the Apple web site or use any compatible QT or third-party preset you may prefer.
If trying to determine the actual problem here, then download and use one of the various movie info utilities that will allow you to examine the various settings used to encode the source video track to specifically include the profile and level used and see if they comply with ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group standards. Many non-Apple custom encoded source files may either be encoded using profiles/levels exceeding iPad limits, employ hybridized or mixed encodings features drawn from multiple profiles/levels, or simply require a third-party decoder like those included in the Perian component package for playback and which, of course, are not available in the iPad firmware OS. Basically, when you pass the video data through without confirming its compatibility, you do so at your own risk.

  • ITunes won't sync certain photos from same roll to iPhone.

Okay here is the deal. Sometimes after importing photos from the iphone's camera roll, iphoto crashes during the process of deleting the images off the iphone. It usually happens halfway through deleting, so there will be a few photos left on the camera roll that have already been imported. I then manually delete those images from the phone.
Whenever I program itunes to sync the last 6 months of photos from iphoto to my iphone, it ALWAYS leaves out the images that I had to delete manually from the phone. This is driving me crazy. It doesnt give any error messages, nothing. It's just seems like business as usual until I get on my phone, go to the photos and see that all the photos aforementioned simply didn't sync.
I go back to iphoto and make sure that the images are there, and they are. I've even gone so far as to take the photos that won't sync, place them in a whole new album and sync. That works. They go into that album and show up on the phone effortlessly. But I can't really do that because there are literally hundred to thousands of photos like that throughout the last 6 months in my iphoto. I don't know which are which.
I have tried deleting the ipod photo cash folder in iphoto, but that didn't work either. It simply resized the last 6 months all over again, synched to phone and STILL left out any photos that were imported into iphoto, but not deleted by due to a crash, and manually deleted from phone by myself.
If anyone could help me with this nightmarish problem, I would be VERY happy.
    Thanks a lot, Luke.
Rest In Peace Mr. Jobs. Thank you for making the world a better place.

Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - run Option #4 to rebuild the database.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments.  However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Sync iPod photos from Aperture

I've got over 14,000 photos in my Aperture library. But iTunes thinks there are only 48 and that is all that it syncs to my iPod. Just 48 random photos. Stupid. It used to sync them all but when I discovered that I could choose subsets of all my photos to be synched, it started helping me. With each synch fewer and fewer photos would be synched. Now it only does 48 of them.

Well, that was an interesting idea, Colin, but it didn't work. I opened iTunes, and then dragged the Aperture repository into it. It seemed to acknowledge it (when I dragged it onto iTunes, the "dragging" icon wasn't x'ed out), but it didn't add anything to the library.
If you try to do an "Add to Library" from iTunes, and then navigate to the Aperture repository, the repository folder is grayed out. It can't be selected. Same for a backup Vault created from Aperture.
Thanks for the suggestion, though. It's always worth experimenting. (Assuming everything is backed up. )
