IPad1 switching to 3G despite WiFi since iOS 4.3 upgrade

I've been seeing my iPad1 ditch an active (and very strong) WiFi connection in favor of 3G on a regular basis since upgrading it to 4.3, and the behavior continues with 4.3.1. This is an expensive proposition.
At first it seemed like it was only happening when running Zite, and I thought it might be an issue with the app. I've now had it happen with Pulse and Safari too. The only solution I have right now is to manually toggle the 3G off when I have WiFi available.
The WiFi system is a pair of Airport Extremes that have otherwise been completely reliable, and the iPad's connection is completely reliable if I turn 3G off. It also never happened prior to iOS 4.3 (I've had the unit since early April 2010 so I had a lot of experience with it).
So: Common problem? Estimated time frame for a fix?

I forgot to add that I have also seen this with an iPhone 3GS, also running 4.3. With unlimited data it is only an annoyance there, though.

  • Since iOS 8.3 upgrade school iPads need to reset very often

Since iOS 8.3 upgrade school iPads need to reset (holding down home and power button) very often as they do not turn on. iPads are charged at the time.
Anyone know how to fix this? It is making life at the school quite difficult.

I take that back, music is messed up too!  Some of the "default" playlists, such as "recently added" , "Recently played" and "Top 25 Most Played" are listed on iTunes and were always on my phone... but since iOS 8.3... they are gone... Still in iTunes, but not on device.

  • Since iOS 5.0 upgrade can't add details into calender. Any ideas

Since iOS 5.0 upgrade, can't add details into calender. Any ideas

Update! I took some general advice on the forum and rebooted my iPhone a few times. I also asked the phone to "forget this device" and attempted to reconnect several times. It would load my contacts and then proceed to disconnect from the phone and I would also see a message on the Bluetooth page that the BlueAnt ST3 was not supported.
    I gave up.
I left the two devices plugged into my computer for power overnight, laying side by side on the table.
They found each other. The next day they connected and have been communicating ever since.
Perhaps until the next IOS upgrade? But a happy ending in the interim

  • Photo's stored as "other" since iOS 8.3 upgrade.

Since upgrading to iOS 8.3, my photos are being stored as "other".  I show 5993 photos in the photos category, but only show 185.9 MB being used.  My "Other" shows 4.45 GB being used.  I have reinstalled (restored) my iPhone several times (clean install - not restore from backup).  I have also deleted my iPod Photo Cache that is stored in "MY PICTURES."  Nothing is fixing this.  I am using Windows 7 and have the latest iTunes.
Before I re-add my photos, my "other" is less than 1 GB.
    My Music is synced fine.
Also, My phone's battery life is horrible, consuming as much as 10% per hour without any use.  Phone is VERY WARM to the touch.
As with the photo's issue, even doing a complete restore of iOS (setting phone up as new) does NOT fix either problem.
Apple did a diagnostic, but nothing was found... NOTHING!
Any ideas on what is going on or how to fix this?
Also, note that even going back and doing a restore from back up from a much older back up from before this problem existed does not help.
Of course, my phone (a 5S) is just a month or so past its warranty, so, Apple will do nothing.  I am starting to think this is their way of getting me to upgrade early with AT&T and forcing me off my unlimited data plan... Don't tell me that Apple and AT&T wouldn't team up on this, one, Apple gets to add to their sales numbers, and AT&T gets to "upgrade" me to a newer plan... which they have been trying to get me off my "grandfathered" plan for quite some time.

I take that back, music is messed up too!  Some of the "default" playlists, such as "recently added" , "Recently played" and "Top 25 Most Played" are listed on iTunes and were always on my phone... but since iOS 8.3... they are gone... Still in iTunes, but not on device.

  • Can't use WiFi since IOS 8 & 8.0.2 for apps downloads.

Before IOS 8.0 I had no problems with anything. Since installing IOS 8.0 I have lost the ability to download any apps via my Wi-Fi. I installed IOS 8.0.2 hoping that would fix the problem but it did not. Cellular downloads just fine but not using Wi-Fi. I am using an IPhone 5 with IOS 8.0.2. My wife has the IPhone 5S and she had the same problem until I installed her phone with IOS 8.0.2 and now the Wi-Fi download works for apps. Need help or someone tell me how to report this directly to Apple.

Well this is ridiculous, Apple releases a new ios and now my wifi wont work.  To add insult to injury after spending hours with support on the phone and then trying to go to the Apple store they offer to replace my iPhone for $269.  I tried to get to the Apple store and due to traffic I was 13 minutes late.  Come to find out that after 10 minutes they give your appointment away!  How very special.  Hey Apple how about fixing the problem you created with your new IOS - should change the name to POS because that is what it is.  My phone is practically useless and now I am blowing through my data plan just trying to get mail and browse the web.  100's of people can't be wrong.  I have restored my phone to factory settings which I really did not want to do and now I had to start from scratch with a clean install only to have NO improvement.  I have tried everything I can find online with no help from any of the suggestions out there.  When are they going to own up to this and finally do something to fix it??

  • Slow Wifi since iOS 8

    Hi Folks,
since ever I've updated my iPhone 5s to iOS 8 (8.0.2 now) I experience slow Wifi connections and dropouts.
Sometimes it's just slow, sometimes pages or videos stop responding in the middle of the loading process
and I get no connections any more at all after that.
The only way to fix this, is restarting my iPhone.. It's very annoying.
    What I've tried so far:
    - reseted network settings
    - disabled wlan networking
    - check if it's really a problem with my phone, not my router or ISP (it isn't)
Is there anything else that i could do to fix this problem?
Thanks for any help in advance..
    Greetings from Germany

Thank you for posting, I have the exact same problem! iPad 2, with iOS 8 upgrade which crippled my iPad 2 !!!!
I am looking for a fix without reading through so many pages of problems, so thanks you for posting everything so completely. I have tried all those "fixes" too and nothing has worked. I also want to downgrade to the previous iOS which operated well for me.
it is embarrassing for Apple, since they just announced new hardware, they want us all to shell out more money, huh?
    no fix for us?
I will look through these pages, but I doubt anything has been solved, I've been reading about trying to find a fix for over a week to no avail.
thanks for posting your complaint/problem as you were very articulate about the problem.
I also can not copy and paste. (Old clipboard keeps showing up.)
    apps crash.
safari and Chrome browser are equally slow, unresponsive, hang.
crash to black screen. Crash to white screen.
    lots of problems.
(edited to fix some typos which is hard since the keyboard overlays what I am typing.)

If the later, contact whomever provides support for QuickOffice.

  • Problems on work wifi since os x Mavericks upgrade

Since upgrading to os x Mavericks I have been having problems on my work wifi. Everything works well at home. While on the work wifi continually being prompted for https proxy authentication. The user name and password for https proxies keep disappearing in network settings (advanced). Cannot connect to network printers. Outlook application is not working. Techs at work have suggested going back to old osx. Is this wise?

You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Since IOS 7.1 upgrade, app crashes

Never had this problem before upgrading to IOS 7.1. I have an Iphone 5c.
Since upgrade, when I open my match.com app, and choose the button for 'More' information, the app totally shuts down and goes back to home screen.
    Can anyone address this?

That's because the app has not released an update for iOS 7.1
Once the app maker releases an update, it will work fine.

  • Microphone issue since ios 5.1 upgrade

    hi all,
my iphone worked perfectly on ios 5.0.1.
since i have upgraded something has happened with the microphone which means the only way i can get anyone to hear me is to talk directly into the microphone.
if i hold it to my ear nobody can hear me.
anyone else have this issue, and what is the fix?

    Do you have a question?

  • Since ios 6.1 upgrade, less battery duration!

Since the upgrade to iOS 6.1, the battery of my iPhone 4 last less as 8 hours without charging.
I have seen, that the 3G is less stable and that the battery discharge much quicker when there is less or no network (gsm, edge or 3g).
Have you such experience ? What could I do to prevent that without plane (offline) mode ?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Same problem here.
Updated to 6.1 2 weeks ago.
Since yesterday battery is only lasting around 8 hours.

  • IPhone 5 keeps rebooting since iOS 7.1 upgrade

Since upgrading to iOS7.1 about 36-hours ago, my iPhone 5 keeps rebooting itself. I've also noticed that the screen wakes itself up (as if pressing the Home button) as often as every 10-mins.
Anyone else seeing the same/similiair thing?
Any news from Apple about a fix?

Here are the basic troubleshooting steps:
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
    Restore from backup
    Restore as new

  • Still can't connect to WiFi since iO6 upgrade on my iphone 4s

Still can't connect to WiFi since yesterday's iO6 upgrade on my iPhone 4s.  Plus battery life is horrible!!

If you are having the issue where it takes you to a login page, goto Settings > WiFi and tap on the blue button to the right of your network name. There'll probably be an option to auto-join and you'll want to toggle that. If it's off, turn it on then back off. If it's on, toggle it off. If prompted to login again, just hit Cancel in the upper-right. Now goto Safari app and you should be prompted to connect to your network at which time it should work. It did for me at least and a friend of mine.
