Ipad2 7.1.2 not appearing in itunes 11.3 - windows 8.1

Hello Apple Community
I am having great difficulty getting an ipad 2 to display in itunes 11.3 under windows 8.1
This is a new issue since upgrading the ipad and itunes from ios 6 and itunes 10 respectively.
Things I have tried so far are
* different usb cords, different usb ports.
* re-installing itunes using the complete removal article (ensuring all components removed in the correct order etc)
* start/stopping the apple mobile device service
* manually installing the apple mobile device driver with the driver supplied by itunes in ....\common files
I have also observed that if the apple mobile device driver is removed, the ipad will appear as a hardware device 'Apple iPad' but still not accessible in itunes.
The ipad does appear in itunes if it is in recovery or DFU recovery mode - these are verified in the windows device manager.
The ipad does appear on another computer so the issue is with the PC, not the ipad.
I hope I've covered everything, any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

I think you've done about all you can do I'm afraid. The only other thing I can think of is for you to just keep trying. If you haven't already, make sure to reboot your computer. Perhaps in fiddling around you can find the right combo. Also look to your anti virus software, maybe your firewall is blocking some of the communication.
Maybe if a friend also has a PC and iTunes, plug your iPad into their computer. Not to sync, just to see if their itunes sees it. If it does then the issue is in your computer, if not then there may be an issue with your iPad. Maybe part of the connector port has gone bad. You could also make an appointment at your local apple store and have them look at it. Unfortunately, unless your iPad is less than a year old any replacement will be an out of warranty replacement, and honestly, with an iPad 2 (which is what I have) I'd have to give serious consideration to paying 249 for  replacement or putting that money towards a newer model.

  • Device Synch Menus does not appear in iTunes 11 on Windows 8 PC

My 3rd generation iPod Nano connected to Windows-8 PC and iTunes 11 - Device "Summary" menu does not appear.  If you select the <File> menu in iTunes there is an option to "Synch Nano".  My iTunes is set to manually manage music on the Nano - because the "Summary" menu does not appear in iTunes it is impossible to select albums to Synch with the Nano.
On the upper right bar there is an eject button for the iPod Nano.  This does in fact eject the Nano device and re-appears in iTunes if you disconnect the device then reconnect the iPod Nano.
No other device menus are present in iTunes 11 under Windows-8.  The iPod Nano music library also does not appear.
Only the PC based iTunes music library is visible.
Itunes software versions are both current on the Nano and Windows-8 PC.
The computer was deauthorized and then authorized in iTunes.
The Synch History was reset in iTunes Preferences - this did not re-establish the Nano as a device to synch with iTunes.  (Typically fixes similar problems)
Resetting nano device by holding Menu after switching unit on/off (Apple Logo Appears then Reboots Nano) makes no difference.
Nano shows as a drive in Windows-8 in "My Computer" and the operating system recognizes the device connection.
No problem ejecting and reconnecting the Nano in Itunes but traditional device menus are gone with the exception of the eject button.
Tested the same iTunes Nano on two other computers with iTunes 11 installed on Windows-7 and Windows XP - works fine.  This issue only occurs on Windows-8 computers.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I just updated iTunes today and this seems to be the cause
If you're already at version 11.1.5.5, try the procedure in Cerbu's post:

  • HT1386 iOS devices not appearing in iTunes Devices on Windows XP Pro PC

I used to have a Mac. Now I'm trying to sync my iOS devices with my new-to-me Windows XP computer, and they are not showing up in iTunes Devices. A Found New Hardware Wizard pops up, asking for drivers. I've tried it with my iPhone and my iPad. I have Windows XP Professional, and the latest version of iTunes 10. My iPad 2 has iOS 6, but the iPhone is one of the older models with iOS 4.
The second part of my problem is that I'm trying to Transfer my Purchases from both the devices to the iTunes Library before I sync them, so I don't lose all my old music and photos.

Yeah, I've tried 5 out of the 7 steps shown in their troubleshooter.  The sixth step is one that is a major pain and I doubt would fix the problem: Reinstall iTunes.  I know enough about PCs to feel about 80% confident that this step would not fix the issue.  Plus, it's a major hassle with re-adding music to the collection.  Nevertheless, I will look at it as a last ditch effort.
The seventh step is extremely vague and doesn't really help.  "There might be a software conflict."  Fine, but there's no way to find any such conflict, if one even exists in the first place, without a heavy dose of trial-and-error, several hours of time, dozens of reboots, and the patience of Job.
However, they do list some other steps that I'll try when I get home, such as making sure certain services are installed and running.  I'll post my results here.  Thanks, wiclee.

iPhone not appearing in iTunes 12 on iMac and MacBook Pro as well
iPhone can charge with no problem.
Try different cables and same problem nothing changed.
    I had tried;
    Reset and Restart iPhone.
    Cleaned the charging input.
    Tried in 3 different computers.
I can't perform the method like uninstall/reinstall the USB driver on my Windows because in my Windows the USB showed unrecognized instead of "Apple USB/iPhone USB" on Device Manager.

Hi Since ios 7 almost everything can be dropped over your WiFi When you charge your phone if Automatically backs up to iCloud If you have problems backup to iCloud over your WiFi Then Restore iPhone back to Factory Settings Use same Apple ID Then you will get all your apps & data back. We have 2 iPhones & 3ipads & have not used a pc for over a year with them. Cheers Brian

  • Ipod nano does not appear in itunes

My 7th generation iPod nano does not appear in iTunes on a Windows 8 PC since installing the 11.1.4.62 update.  I have now tried every step from the recommended KB:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1363 with no relief.  Windows sees the iPod just fine...

Same problem. Also Windows 8... There is no problem at all with a Windows 7 computer.

  • Ipad2 charging slowly and not connecting to itunes

    Hi Everyone
So a few months back my ipad2 decided it didn't want to connect to my itunes anymore which didn't bother me at the time as I had already loaded eveything I wanted onto the device.
The next thing to happen was it started charging very slowly and with no lightning bolt icon next to the battery when plugged in.
Naturallly this irked me so I started reasearching the problem on here and found that it was an issue with the dock connector port.
I took it into apple and they said they wouldn't repair it but offered to sell me a new one for £250.
I decided to just take on the repair job myself having fixed numerous broken laptops and gadgets in the past with online instruction.
So yesterday the new dock connector part arrived and I successfully swapped out the old for the new although I did notice something strange.
The dock connector cable on both the original part and the new part I bought seemed too long for the ipad I.e. the cable kinks in the middle when plugged into the connector port and screwed in.
once I turned the ipad back on it was the same deal as before no connection to itunes and only slightly faster charging than before.
Any ideas guys I'm pretty much at a loss here.
    Jordan

The cable could be the culprit.

I have OS 10.4.11 and iTunes 9.2.1 (5). My iPhone 4s does not appear in iTunes. only iPhoto recognize my iPhone. Update of iTunes seems not possible. How can I make appear my iPhone in iTunes?

From the box the iphone came in:
Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
iTunes 10.5 or later (free download fromwww.itunes.com/download)"
You will need Mac OS 10.5.8 or later in order to get itunes 10.5 or later, in order to connect your iphone.

  • My iPod frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ?

My iPod seems to be frozen on "Do not disconnect" yet it does not appear in iTunes on my computer ? Eventually I did disconnect. It's remains frozen and shows almost full charge.

I'm having similar problems. Here is exactly what happens to me:
I dock the iPod (I believe it is the 5th gen model, one of the first to play videos). Sometimes it syncs properly sometimes not. It will add songs not on my iPod, but it won't update the play count, last played, etc. The problem was fixed when I updated to a new version of iTunes (I believe it was 7.2 at the time, I could be wrong). So I played it off just being an iTunes issue. Well, with 2 updates since then, it has done it yet again. I've tried to restart the iPod using the menu+select key. It will work to remove the iPod, but it won't help in the future. The only way I can remove the iPod is to click on "Safely Remove Hardware." I know this isn't good for the iPod, but this is the only way that I can get the "Do not disconnect" icon off my iPod. Also, I tried to click "Eject iPod" (I've used this several times in emergency cases and worked wonders) but I get a message saying "iPod is in use by another windows program." I couldn't imagine what program is using my iPod. As far as I know, iTunes is the only program that can use the iPod on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?, Ipod 160GB showing in Windows Vista OS as Removable Disk, not appearing in iTunes (latest version). How can I resolve?

My Ipod 160GB when disconnected is showing without any files, but no room available. It appears in my 'Computer' screen as 'Removable Disk (though the icon is a little iPod). It does not show up in iTunes at all (I have the latest version).
When I right-click the icon on the 'Computer' screen it does run incredibly slowly. I was doing this to consider if I should try formatting it (only NTSF and exFAT formats were showing) but I wasn't certain if that would be a good idea.
    I have thus far:
    Hard Reset iPod
Verified the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver was installed correctly via Device Manager
Checked the device in 'Computer Management' > 'Disk Management - showing as a RAW file with only format option as exFAT or NTSF
Ran iPod in Diagnostic Boot Mode - IO > HardDrive > HDSMARTData* - stats revealed 'Error' (did this twice to confirm error). Reset iPod from here.
After this it actually came up in iTunes but said it needed to be restored - ran Restore iPod. Error message said 'iPod cannot be restored. Uknown error occoured (1415).
Tried Solution 1 (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1539) - Reregistering the .dll files. Was unable to complete step 11 as the iPod did not appear in iTunes.
Verified that Apple Mobile Device Manager was installed.
Restarted the Apple Mobile Device Service.
Checked for third party conflicts - couldn't find any.
Changed the drive letter and restarted the computer.
Put into disk mode - unsure what that achieves.
Downloaded the HP USB with no luck running the program. I believe that Windows Vista doesn't allow formatting drives to FAT32 at all, and even previous editions of Windows wouldn't allow formatting above 32GB so certainly no suitable for me. If I got hold of a mac computer - could I format on that? Or is there a FAT32 Formatter that works for 160GB?
So I am at a bit of a frustrated loss. If you have any suggestions or know what I should do - I am all ears or eyes as it were. I will be on standby to give you more information if required.
    Thanks,
    Ashley

Try Resetting Your iPod while it's connected to the computer.
Hold down the Menu and Select buttons until you see the Apple logo (or Menu & Play/Pause in older models).
This will often get it recognized. It may take several attempts.

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • My iPod mini is not appearing in iTunes or windows explorer.

My iPod is not appearing in iTunes or explorer. Only when I go to hardware manager windows admits that there is something that is not installed properly. But when I start the hardware manager and put in the CD, as required by the hardware assistant it says: Hardware couldn’t be installed.
So it is not even possible to reset my iPod, because is not recognized by the iPod Updater. I had to go to another computer to reset the iPod. After that my computer is still not recognizing it. So I installed the latest version of iTunes and Updater, but it doesn’t help. I installed also the latest drivers for my computer, but it did not work. Running the iPod in disc mode doesn’t change anything, too.
The iPod is not listed under disc management so I can’t change the Drive from E to G.
I tried the inactivation of all Microsoft-services according to the protocol from the apple web page, but it did not work, even after installing the latest version of iTunes.
I've read the entire troubleshooting pages on how to fix it.
The message on the iPod mini display is always the same when I connect it: “do not disconnect” and after about 3 seconds “OK to disconnect”. But the iPod is never listed in windows explorer or iTunes. I also reseted it, when it was connected to the computer.
I completely run out ideas and I am about to send it to service.
    Can anyone help?
